So, I stopped by Wal-Mart this morning and found a MP Starscream right there on the shelf for $30! Score right?

Then I get to the check out counter and go to ring it up. Its not $30....

It's was $25.DAAAAAAMN! I guess I can'r cry about it because I never go into Wal-Mart. Did you see anymore? I'd be happy to Paypal you some bucks to grab one for me.

I went to meijers today and they had those movie scene sets (the ones with the little human figures and a deluxe) and they had the set with concept bumblebee painted gray, I was sooo tempted to get it but Im not paying $20 for a deluxe and some shitty human figures that Im going to toss in a bucket somewhere. still, gray colored bumblebee looks AMAZING compared to the all black previous version. its like hasbro doesnt want me to have it or something.

Ok seriously. Like what makes G1, Beast Wars, Armada, and now this, Animated, so fucking different from one another that people like yourself, are saying things like this.

Like I'm not making the connection here. New generation of kids, new opportunity to pump a toy line into the market, new tv show with a currently popular artstyle. Please fucking tell me what this show is doing differently that the others have not? Is it the writing? Shit seems on par with the other shows to me. Is it the animation? There's a lot of neat tricks like bumblebee half transforming to ride on rails. Is it because it's a different take on the mythos? Like how many of you guys really thought that transforming into animals made sense?

but what makes it different for me is the seriousness of it all... in G1 and beast wars there was a feeling that it had a serious tone... it was a bit dark sometimes with characters dying and sacrificing themselves... to me its like comparing batman the animated series to teen titans(or even the batman)...

you may not see it as that big of a stretch...

Oh dude that's all I wanted to know. And I totally see where you are coming from. I do miss that 'dark edge' from the other shows. A lot sometimes. However, these Autobots can barely do shit against one decepticon so every fight is a life or death situation. Unlike all the old shows where they just traded blows.

Ratchet getting his arm ripped off.

Optimus flipping out on everyone.

Grimlock. He's always good. Alwalys dumb.

Bulkhead telling on Prowl while using 'stealth' to disappear.

I also like that they have to deal with robots made only to kill. A nice contrast to what the Autobots are built for in this show. It makes every battle serious. The Autobots are really the underdogs in this show.

True, HERE's hoping the 2nd part will be a good finish for Season 1.

To be honest, it's not so much the designs in TFA that bother me, but rather the blatant shortcuts they take in the animation. The G1 show hasn't aged well in that sense, but that was 1984-87. There's almost no excuse for that now.

That's the thing about kitbashing, sometimes it's a completely faithful and cartoon accurate approach, or it's a refreshing update. If you didn't like the custom Devastator because it was "too different" from the original design, then you shouldn't even like Blades. Hell, the differences are far more obvious in him than in Devs.

I don't like the show because of how ridiculous and overused the animation style is in itself. Coming from someone who watches japanese anime on a regular basis, the quality of TFA is piss-poor, and that's the standard when it comes to American animation. It's lazy, and we use this style because it's so quick and cheap to produce.

To be fair, I didn't like Ebergon/Armada/RID because of the really childish dialouge and the large involvement by the human teenagers. I know G1 had it too but at least Spike and Sparkplug were somewhat compitent. Plus they didn't whine as much.

For me, Beast Wars is still the best because it focused almost all of it's story on Predacons and Maximals. I didn't start to loose interest until they introduced those primates and the children, but that shit changed really fast when they...

I just ripped my boy's 20th anny DVD to my HDD. Damn, the features on the DVD are GODLIKE. Nelson Shin is the man....it's funny as hell listening to him talk about Unicron in the commentary, he's all like "well, uh,...he had to consume, y'know, consume planet....for...for energy...so he could, y'know....'s for the living"

I'm getting either an Energon Blight/Kickback to be Nosecone and Cybertron Red Alert to be Scattershot.

First thing is figuring out how I'm going to merge these figures. I could use those Energon pegs or Lego Technic parts.

hey man, im not saying its ugly or that the guy who made it has not talent or whatsoever. i just pointed out that IMO, yes my opinion, the combiner looks cool but doesn't do the OG one justice IMO. it does do it justice, but it doesn't look like it. the robots themselves don't look like the OG's, combined it looks good but lots of differences with the OG. in comparison, the blades looks good IMO cause it doesn't try to mimic the OG one, but is a different on that just looks good.

again, im not hating on devestator. i think its different from the OG but gotta respect the amount of work put in it.

personally, im pretty good with drawing. im thinking about making a custom combiner of the dinobots but only in art form. meaning drawn. ill probably be using dreamwaves dinobots arts as a reference. ive got a pretty good idea about how to handle it, but its gonna be damn time consuming. besides, i need to think of transformable armor parts for all the separate bots that should be transforming into parts of the combined form. meaning, a piece of armor with weapons for the robot version snarl and sludge, transformable into a 2 big cannoned weapon they can use in dino mode (think dinoriders style). which i wanna make so that it will also transform into the feet of the combined robot (kinda like predaking). same kinda thing but more different for swoop and slag, armor (with weapons) they can use in robot mode and in dino mode (thinking bout adding boosters for dino mode). transformable to the hands of the combiner. most difficult will be grimlock. i think ill be needing 2 pieces of armor he needs to be using in both robot and in dino mode (hell be the most magnus like in the end). they have to be big enough to be transformable into the chest plate of the combiner, and one for the dick/ass part where grimlocks upper legs will be hiding in (protected). the chest plate should be going to the back too so that swoops wings can be put on the back of the combined form as well (preda style).

most of the thoughts are done for it, still not too sure how im gonna handle most of the armor needed to combine. also, the head. i need to think of one. a separate one, or one that can transform into a sort of armor for grims chest? i had an idea for their weapons to be renewed so that the weapons can also combine into a big ass canon for the gestalt, same for newly designed swords that can be combined for a bigg ass version of it. too much trouble though. ill need to start of with the combiner first. shits gonna be time consuming. biggest reason why i probably still only have the idea in my head instead of on paper.

I love Victory. Masterforce is really good too. They're both different kind of shows than original G1 stuff, but both are very entertaining.

I'm really not that into Transformers. I was during Beast Wars and what I didn't have my next door neighbors had (two brothers only a year apart so that was cool for all three of us). Once Transmetals hit I was disgusted with Beast Wars toys.

I spring on a super cheap Optimus Prime Classic from Amazon (like $7 bucks) and was in love. I then tried to get the rest of the Classics line but they are all just too expensive. I settled on Jetfire, Mirage, and Megatron. My holy grail is Leo Prime. Even before I got into Classics I was eying him from afar. But now it's way too late. If anyone can find me a Leo Prime I'd love him/her forever and ever.

Ok everyone, I wanted to prove that I'm pretty serious about that Computron custom I posted about a few weeks back. However, I'm doing a little warm-up project to get me familiar with taking figures apart and making the necessary modifications and add-ons.

The arms come from a KO Happy Well Armada Megatron. I do plan on including the original Menasor arms (see pic below), but as something that snaps onto the news ones. I don't know how I'm going to do that but I figured this is a nice start.

I took the gear pins off that connect to the shoulders and added them to the top of the HW arms for a natural fit. Apoxie sculpt was added to to merge them together.

Thoughts?

its a pretty damn good show, Im enjoying it. the only other episodes Ive seen are the premiere "movie" and the episode where they introduce the hype machine known as the dinobots.

but god damn! why are their faces so fucked up!?

From what I've seen, I liked the new animated TF show. However, it's not something that I would go out of my way to watch. It doesn't help that my tv reception is garbage. Then again, I don't go out of my way to watch most new things. Only about 4-5 movies in the theatres, 3-5 anime series, and maybe a live-action show or two... per year.

Elite Guard was pretty good. I'm really enjoying the voice work of this show. Corey Burton and Tom Kenny are great as Megatron and Starscream respectively. Speaking of Burton, he also voiced Shockwave in the G1 show. Jeff Bennett as Magnus echoes Robert Stack from the '86 movie almost perfectly. And Phil LaMarr (Wilt from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) was pretty good as Jazz.

Well damn, my (Takara) Vector Prime actually came in today. I thought it would never get here...glad it finally did though. :sweat:

Man, the molded detail on this is sick...only thing I don't like is his sword doesn't fit all the way in his hand. You can move him just a little bit and it will fall out. I'm thinking about filing the grip down just a bit (at the top) with a knife. :sweat:

Only thing else they could have done articulation wise, would've been to give his fingers/hands full articulation (instead of none). Then he'd be virtually perfect. Almost every other joint is movable though, making him really posable.

But yeah, this shit puts the Hasbro version to SHAME (either one of them). So if I was gonna get VP, it had to be this version. I'll try to post up some pics later.No pics = no such purchase. No know how it works around here! get on dat' shit!

Well, it was just going to be a bash of the figure, but people at TFW are saying I should totally make him into another character, be it original or existent.

It's pretty fun taking figs apart and seeing what you can do with them. I'd definitely recommend it. But I'd start with junkers, KOs, and figs that aren't typically expensive.

That may be because the first half of the movie involved everyone we loved either kicking ass or getting killed. It was an animated fight on a grand scale that we've never really seen before and it was awesome. my sentiments exactly. first time i saw rod replace prime i hoped the guy who thought of it would die ASAP. i think lots of kids in the 80's cursed him to die. everybody i knew hated that move. but even if you take that out. part 2 just dies. part one is life. it got boring in the second part. the first part had me glued to the screen back then. shit even if i saw the first part on tv now i would watch it if i didn't have anything to do or somewhere to go.

I heard the same thing too. It probably took them a year or more to get that movie into production so there was all sorts of characters that didn't make the necessary appearance that should have? You'd think once seeing Devastator, the Autobot's would have called for Superion (but then again the Dinobot's got their asses handled to them so maybe the Arielbot's wouldn't fair much better.)?

Production quality dropped and the animation was really terrible, and I didn't like all those weird episodes that involved all the alien types. It was just a completely different show, and without Prime and the others I just lost interest.

Some poor kid locked himself in his room for a week after he witnessed Prime die in the movie, according to an interview on the anniversary dvd.

I was glad that they spared the audience from the typical 'nobody dies' rule in children's cartoons. Kids are not stupid, and they know that tons of gunfire should equal getting shot and damaged badly. Of course, seeing Prime turn grey on his deathbed was just heartwrenching.

As an older TF fan, I can appreciate the depth that self-doubting Rodiums as leader brings to the story...but goddamnit if we didn't love Optimus, that noble steel cowboy. And losing him to Rodimus, who was a pussy in comparison...well, it was hard to stomach. It felt like breaking up with Jessica Alba and then going out on a date with Jeneane Garofolo.

Also, my primary issue with the movie wasn't that everyone died, but that they all went out like chumps. It was just another battle, except this time the shots were fatal for some reason. And that's frustrating, because if you think about it, the attack on Autobot City really had nothing to do with Unicron, at all. Essentially, there's this huge crisis and a seemingly unstoppable foe, something that sets up the potential for a lot of great heroic sacrifice...but all the deaths happened in something completely unrelated before that. It was obvious that they were just trying to get the old guys off the screen as quickly as possible in order to start pushing the new toys. And then you factor in that the story wasn't that good and the new characters sucked and...well.

Especially if you look at how Dinobot was handled in Beast Wars, and to a lesser extent, Starscream in Armada. I have to agree totally here, the darker setting of S3 was more fitting imo.
But what did the movie gave us as new characters? Annoying ones as far as the Autobots were concerned, I never been much of an Autobot fan but I rather take Jazz & Ironhide over annoying fucks like Blurr and Wheelie any day..

Rodimus was ok on his self but not as a fill in for the epicness of Optimus Prime.

Grimlock devolved from brute to childish behaviour.. just to keep the kids happy

As for the Decepticons well... that's a different story... I personally liked Cyclonus's character , especially with him handling the deranged Galvatron and still trying to keep the well being of the Decepticon army. ("Webworld" comes to mind now)

Then we have Scourge.. not as intresting but he does his job.

The Sweeps.. well to put it pluntly they are a cheap and lazy character/animation cut.. before we had the Seekers at least they had different personalities even though they were minor characters. These guys didn't even had names at one time ("Call of the Primitives") they're even refered to by number "Sweeps 6 and 7 coming in for a strike".. :bluu:

Brings me to Galvatron... for a stand alone character he's amusing with his insanity and agressivness.. but when I think that he was once Megatron, I get uncomfortable.. at least Megatron had his moments of victory, Galvatron's command was just a rollercoaster of failure and shooting at his own troops (even though amusing)

On a side note; I loved the Quinttessons as a third wild card group, abusing anyone to complete their own schemes.

I think they only call it The Beast for the whole story.
