I've been reading through some TF books (like Prime Targets) now having finished the final season of beast wars a while ago. I feel that I have watched everything enough times now (gen1 and bw twice through on dvd alone) to reflect on all that is glorious with the series.

So here's my Top Ten pre- tf: the movie stories:

(air-date order, not preference)

10. Enter the Nightbird - one of my favorites when it first aired. Ninja robot = beast. A nice stand-alone story

9. Changing Gears - gears had a shitty character design but his personality was great and I always laugh during this episode

8. A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court - I love the cheesy 80s fantasy stuff - merlin, the owl, etc.

7. The God Gambit - mature storyline for TF and a good one. very memorable.

6. Make Tracks - tracks was my favorite autobot so his two stories rate up there for me. Raoul > Chip

5. Auto Bop - the other tracks episode, this time complete with great cheesy 80s breakdancing and Blaster vs Soundwave!

4. Prime Target - enjoyable riff on "The Most Dangerous Game

3. Starscream's Brigade - My favorite episode of all when it originally aired. Bruticus was tight as hell and the attitude of the Stunticons was great.

2. Trans-Europe Express - You wonder why they didnt think of this story (autbots in a cross-country race) earlier

1. Hoist Goes to Hollywood - was never a big Hoist fan but Tracks does some good stuff in this episode and it is very funny. Its also in Hollywood, nuff said.

5. Webworld - another favorite when it first aired. Galvatron as really, really crazy

4. Ghost in the Machine - starscream trying to put Unicron back together was mind-boggling when I was a kid and brought back all of the horrible memories from the movie

2. Grimlock's New Brian - I always liked COmputron and the Flowers for Algernon-esque ending put a little :sad: in my eye...

1. The Return of Optimus Prime - ya damn right.


Top Ten Beast Wars Stories:

10. Beast Wars - sets up the show masterfully, introduces Dinobot and his complexities

9. Power Surge - always liked this one, Terrorsaur shines

8. Gorilla Warfare - I would have gone nuts for this one when I was a kid. Balls-out action

7. The Trigger - Floating island stuff was great, made you want to play it as a video game or something

6. Possession - one of several G1-heavy episodes.

5. Before the Storm/Other Voices - setting up the grand plot that was BW, the season finale really amps things up and gives us a great cliffhanger.

4. Coming of the Fuzors - I loved the Sergio Leone touches throughout both of these episodes. Lots of good violence too

3. Code of Hero - my only complaint is that I would have liked this to happen in the midst (or end) of a 2 or 3 parter but still the greatest.

2. The Agenda - Even better than the first season's finale, this is perhaps the single best storyline in Beast Wars or G1 Transformers. Megatron's speech at the end as he is about to blast Optimus still gives me chills.

1. Nemesis Part 2 - season 3 finale threw in everything and the kitchen sink. Although it wrapped up way too quick, it was still very rewarding, especially Waspinator's fate.

Back on topic, when Optimus Prime came back to life in order to stop the Robot AIDS, How did they eventually stop that virus type thing that was turning all of them crazy? For some reason that has been bugging me lately.

Haha, that was a great episode. Rampage/Starscream was an awesome character, and an even more awesome toy. Can you imagine the Beast Wars/DBZ madness in that storyline if Rampage had his whole Spark, and then merged it with Starscream's in the Ark like Optimus and Megatron did? GGPO universe. :cybot:

I like "Starscreams Brigade" and "Call of the Primitives" had the best animation from all transformers episodes....except for Tranformers VICTORY that series had some very detailed hardcore japanese animation in it atleast 50% of the time....the animators showed and proved on that series

That was a hate plague that started from some spores found in a meteor. It apparently made anyone who came into contact with it to release all the rage with in, instant level 3 k groove.

Optimus put an end to it by opening up the autobot matrix, releasing all the stored wisdom inside it. Apparently the way to stop hate is to use knowledge and wisdom and understanding or something. At least the played the "You got the touch" song that was in the transformers movie at that part. :tup:


I have the entire first generations transformers dvd set, from the starting escape from cybertron to the last saga with the headmasters and scorpinox/fortress maximus (who you see for 15 seconds each).

If you have some questions about the original generation transformers, i can try to look up the answers, though the entire series is quite huge, 5 multi dvd boxes :wow:

And even after all that he did to overthrow Megatron, he still kept him around(well, megs casted him away a couple times, but he always took him back). Even in the first episode you can see his character shine. Plus, he was the only one wit the balls to throw Megatron off of Astrotrain on their way back to Cybertron, even though he was repairable. What other TF ever lived on as a ghost.....

Armada wasn't bad at all, if you watched past 10 episodes of it. The last 7 or 8 episodes were downright kickass. And Nasir, if you're going to complain about it, you could at least get your stuff straight. Armada != Energon, though Energon follows it sequentially. And Cybertron is unrelated, and brand new, and doesn't feature "voltron" Prime. Also, Voltron is not the only combining robot in the history of anything. he's just one of many.

I honestly don't see his his being a fire truck is bad in any way. Fire trucks are awesome. RiD Prime is awesome. The End.

armada sucked so hard. you know its bad when the most enjoyabe part of the series is when you see them transform and the animation gets really good. armada had absolutely horrid animation. the last 10 episodes or so were actually good and the last episode was totally kickass. it was basically a big megatron/optimus throwdown.

I remember sitting in front of the tv every weekday to watch beastwars on foxkids and I fondly miss it. Id like to get the box sets but I dont have the money yet. plus the new perceptor/star convoy/galvatron/soundblaster reissues that I have to get my budget is really thin. robots in disguise was average. I never saw the episodes with brave maximus but I thought scourge was totally badass. the toys for it were amazing but the show was bad. armada was all around bad. energon was actually pretty good in my opinion. the dubbed version of the show was ok and the the toys were a huge step up from armada.

as for cybertron,I only advise watching the japanese version. the toys are totally bitchin! I just got prime a few days ago and its easily one of my favorite TFs. Im tired

I have to say the best Transformers series I've seen was Beast Wars. Though the older ones were good as well. The newer ones (in my opinion) aren't as good as Beast Wars. Btw, I was watching G4 Tech Tv. and they were talking about Transformers, and what they showed at one point was a guy who made a Hot Shot costume that you could actually connect together (while still inside the costume I might add) to transform into the vehicle form (with wheels). :rofl:

I just watched the first five episodes of the Headmasters Series from Japan. It seems confusing, as it doesn't follow the events of the last G1 mini series.

I just got this bad boy at otakon. Cost a pretty penny, but it's a lot more detailed that the american one, and is made of die-cast metal instead of plastic. Very nice.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who really likes Beast Wars. It was very well written, and the character development is deep.

I don't have many of the toys anymore, but I do have a collection of every Transmetal figure released in the US (not the recolors though), and those are some great toys.
However, Alternators > all other TF toys. The detail on them is great

IIRC there was a TF G1 game for Jpn PS2 only, but i dont know much about it.

Transformers: Tatakai for PS2. It's all G1, and plays a lot like Dynasty Warriors, you pick one transformer from an unlockable selection of 30 or so, and 2 computer controlled teammates. You fight stages of clones in really strange environments, and then take on major characters as boss battles. Also, there are really gay mine sequesnces where you have a very short amount of time to push through a section of a level with floating mines EVERYWHERE, and one hit juggles you into a shitload of others, making that particular lifebar void. In general, it's like many Japanese games, very lackluster. However, because its Transformers, I played the shit out of it. :pleased: There's a toy mde to transform in 3D all the old toys, with cool animations and tech specs. The story is decent for a transformer game, with plausible but noticibly diffent voice actors(Soundwave sounded spot on, as did Wheeljack), which is all in English. In fact, once you turn on the english sub-titles in the soundtrack, the game is much more American-friendly. You level up stats as you play, but can never max out or save maxed characters from different plays, so it annoys the completist in me. Also, playing a transformer means choosing only ONE transformation, so in the case of triple-changers, you have your robot form, and one of your vehicle or beast forms, complete with different attacks and specials.

Obviously, Optimus as your main, with Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus as assistants rocks all forms of ass in the Autobots storyline. I use all different characters for the Decepticon half of the game.

Annoyingly, the game is only 1-player. It's still addictive to push farther and see all your favorite transformers in action, how their powers translate to a game and to each other, etc. The boss battle toward the end, where you fight HUGE 3v1 battles on gestalt teams like Predaking(where Optimus is as tall as Predaking's knee ferchrissakes) or base transformers like the T-Rex/city Trypticon are orgasmic.

It's a shitty game, seriously. But its the best Transformers game ever made, for Transformers fans. I recommend it.

The reason IMO most people hate it is because it's supposed to be a direct continuation from Beast Wars, and they took all the characters left over from the original show, and turned them into bitches devoid of any personality. That, and they completely bastardize the continuity of the series while coming up with the dumbest plot conceivable. Oh, and the show is so politically correct it makes you sick.

And the Power thingy you guys are referring too, they were called Power Masters. The ones with the transforming guns was Target Masters. I thought they were a part of the Head Masters series - at least in toy form they were but I never could watch the G1 TF series past the movie. What horrible shit that was.

The one shining moment in Armada/Energon was when Starscream went face and tried to knock some sense into Megatron that Unicron is evil and that they should unite forces with the Autobots to defeat Unicron.

Starscream did it by sacrificing himself and tried to attack Unicron only to be disintegrated by one single shot from the evil planet.

IMHO, that ranks up there with Dinobot's death in Beast Wars series and Optimus Prime's death in TF:TM.

One of the most fucked up things I can't forgive is how they transformed Rattrap from uber cool demolitions expert and vet to team science guy. Cheator losing his cooler looking and obviously more powerful Transmetal 2 form also sucked.

I just got this bad boy at otakon. Cost a pretty penny, but it's a lot more detailed that the american one, and is made of die-cast metal instead of plastic. Very nice.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who really likes Beast Wars. It was very well written, and the character development is deep.

I don't have many of the toys anymore, but I do have a collection of every Transmetal figure released in the US (not the recolors though), and those are some great toys.
However, Alternators > all other TF toys. The detail on them is great

The diecast Binaltechs are really good stuff!
I own Dead End & Ravage. (planning to get Laserwave/Shockwave too but they're pretty damn expensive.

I like "Starscreams Brigade" and "Call of the Primitives" had the best animation from all transformers episodes....except for Tranformers VICTORY that series had some very detailed hardcore japanese animation in it atleast 50% of the time....the animators showed and proved on that series

Yes. Animation on Call of the Primitives was the serious, serious truth.

Megatron's Master Plan series was also excellent. I remember seeing each episode when it was new and talking to my other friends about it the next day in school, particularly the Nightbird episode. Good times. :karate:

PS: And for the record, the first 6-7 episodes of Transformers Energon was pretty good. Especially Megatron's Revival. I'd put that episode up with anything on G1, and I'm a G1 fan.

I found Prowl in Target. I heard he came out on October 4th, so I checked the store and he was there.

I think the Ram should be Ironhide, and a Trailbreaker could be something like a Nissan X-Terra or one of those other Mini SUVs.

Don't feel bad Javi, I haven't been able to stay on top of my Alternator collection either. I have Smokescreen, Sideswipe, white Meister w. custom G1 Jazz stickers from reprolabels.com, Dead End (only because I can never find Hound), Tracks (also w. custom G1 Tracks stickers), Grimlock and Laserwave (which is my fav).

I'm really not into spending an extra $20.00 on repaints so I skip on most all the repainted Alt's. I also passed on geting Windcharger because I couldn't stand either of his modes. And I've yet to see any of the 4 new Alt's anywhere. I'm really excited to see how Sunstreaker turned out.

Megatron reissues arent hard to find on ebay. Prime on the other hand....Im glad I got him when he first came out.

I will take some pics tonight and some video to show you the quality of the set and disc....my only complaint is the disc are not region free....as advertised....luckily I have a region free dvd player....as soon as i got the disc I went to a buddy of mines store to show off the goods...and they wouldnt play....but when i got home it was all good....

This mourning i was able to go threw the HEADMASTERS boxset and find the episode where BLASTER and SOUNDWAVE fight to the death....it was great....but HEADMASTERS animation is very weak....

All in all alot of my friends ask how i feel about haveing the official japanese TRANSFORMERS VICTORY boxset that I purchased 2 years ago that I paid 500 bucks for:wonder: ehh I love japanese transformers and its cool to see peoples eyes when they see how quality of the official japanese set....so it doesnt bother me to much.....

I will post a video and pics of my collection when I get home....and I highly reccomend the above chinese set....

It's an odd concept, but the toys are pretty neat in my experience. I have Vader. I'd have the other three if I had the money for them. Stuff keeps coming out--Ricochet and Rollbar (alternators) just showed up in my area, so there's another 40 bucks gone. Plus the latest wave of Cybertron is out earlier than expected, and should be here before very long, so that's another 70 bucks, plus I've got all those reissues to catch up on, most of the DW comics, and the new IDW books as well. It's so hard getting behind in this hobby.

I have Skids, and I think he's one of the best Alts to date. A new vehicle, no repaint, no "transformation clones" (other than Broadblast), and once you see him, you KNOW it's Skids...there's no doubt.

I think that Prime was originally going to be Trailbreaker (if you listen to rumors in some circles). Only reason that they did that is because a pickup Truck Alt would not sell in Japan. They would flock to a new Convoy figure.

I've been out of it for a while, Brian - however I will be back into it again. But I did pick up Prowl the other day, not too bad. Skids and Sunstreaker will be my next ones. As far as Prime goes... I'm not too sure yet. It is refreshing to see him NOT have the windows on his chest.

I think they just got hurried outta' the way to make room for Streker, Prowl and Skids. I saw Rollbar and Ricochet at KayBee as well but skipped. I'm not a big fan on repaints.

I also lack Swindle because I always assumed he'd be there since he never moved, and by the time I was ready to get him, he was gone. I'd suggest getting Rollbar and Ricochet anyway as soon as you can, before it's too late.

I agree on both points. Grimlock/Wheeljack is the hardest Alt to change back and fourth, there's something about the front wheels and that whole change there that makes him imposible to work correctly.

And Prime as a RAM, yeah - bad choice, IMO. I hear that's the reason why he was cancelled as a Binaltech. Apperantly, Hasbro made the agreement on their end for Prime but Takara didn't like the choice so they finaly bailed. I could be wrong but that's what I read somewhere.

Whatchu smokin, Taichi? Of course they're on the same scale, just place any Alt in car mode and copare the size with Prime in Truck mode. Most everyone thinks of 20th Prime as a part of the Alt/Binaltech line - he started it off regardless that it doesn't say Alternator/Binaltech on the packaging.

personally, my favorite Alternator is Tracks......I like the transformation, and the fact that it's UNDENIABLY Tracks......very nice throwback, and a great transformation......

I kinda disagree. Original Optimus Prime was a truck. He's a truck in this incarnation. It just turns out that it may not be the right one. Give HasTak some credit for trying - it may be better than what it's made out to be.

Takara originally bailed because trucks in Japan are pretty much non-existient. But Takara relented a bit and renamed it Ginrai. (go figure.)

I just disagree.....Alt/Binaltech are representations of actual new model cars, while Masterpiece Prime is an amalgamation of several makes of OLD semi tractors.....

the theme doesn't match, and neither does the scale.......maybe in vehicle mode, but definitely not in robot mode......

Take a look at the old TF's including Prime and any other car robot. Prime stands atleast twice as tall as any of the originals, and it's the same with this line. And truck manufacturers still produce trucks of that style to this day. He's still a plain red flat-nosed diesel, there's not much else you can do. If they wanted to change his truck body style to something different, it wouldn't be Optimus. Technically, yes he does use an older style but in terms of construction and features he's a Binaltech/Alternator to everyone else.

My current fav is Shockwave. I can't stand the repaints but they did something amazing with Shockwave/RX8. Skids is probably my next favorite. Great robot mode and the car mode rocks.

actually no.......20th Prime has nothing similar to Binaltech/Alternators.......the joints are superdetailed, with pistons, and slides, there are very few balljoints, the transformation is a lot smoother (with very little of the body panels leftover to hinder movement).....I just dont' see what everybody else is talking about, and it would seem Hasbro/Takara doesn't either......I see the construction/features to be MORE than what is featured with the Alternators......

I agree on both points. Grimlock/Wheeljack is the hardest Alt to change back and fourth, there's something about the front wheels and that whole change there that makes him imposible to work correctly.

Whatchu smokin, Taichi? Of course they're on the same scale, just place any Alt in car mode and copare the size with Prime in Truck mode. Most everyone thinks of 20th Prime as a part of the Alt/Binaltech line - he started it off regardless that it doesn't say Alternator/Binaltech on the packaging.

Actually, the reason Takara bailed on Prime appears to be that they're bailing on Binaltech altogether.

And no, MP/20th Prime is not to scale with the Alternators. The Alts are in 1:24th. Prime is somewhere in the 1:32to 1:36 range.

It took me the better part of a weekend to figure out how to transform him from robot to car, and he's still not exactly right.


Way to go Takara/Hasbro. Make a transformer that's harder to transform then Rubik' Cube.



That being said, I love the line. I just disagree with Alternators Prime being a Ram.

We already have Alternators Prime, he's just called 20th Anniversary Prime.

Yeah, the line is old news (as of BotCon), but the Astrotrain pictures aren't. Nice. We also saw a Megatron and Starscream, but I don't know if any pictures of those have appeared on the net.

not to my knowledge they havn;t i think when neo comes out be the end of alt/bintech line if they can't any more car licenses.

You're talking Robot Masters, and it's a pretty nondescript line. Not a lot of figures, and they're not particularly nice. Starscream inparticular is pretty flawed--he's not all that posable, sadly.
