View Full Version : The official iPod thread.

Wanted to start this thread since a lot of folks on SRK have iPods. There's all kinds of shit out there for the iPod, and we can use this thread for any type of product recommendations, questions about the ipod, etc. etc. so post up.

Me personally, I'm wondering what's the best way to make some playlists. I have 47.8 gigs of music and getting play lists together can be a bitch. I don't want to throw the ipod on shuffle cause I got a lot of different stuff on my iPod that just fucks up the flow. I don't want to be listening to blackstar or DJ Tiesto and then have Raw by Eddie Murphy come on.

SO, does anybody know a way to make easy play lists?

Oh yeah, and this ain't the place for some of you folks who want to post up how you dislike the iPod and things like that. If you come here and troll the thread, you'll be banned.

RoninChaos: You use iTunes, right? plug your iPod in your comp. Then, select your iPod on your left taskbar, and click the little "+" button on the lower left corner (called creats a playlist), make sure it's created in your ipod and not on the library, name it whatever you want. Then, drag your songs you wanna use in that playlist. Then, organize your songs the way you want them to be (drag n drop). That's pretty much the only way you can customize your playlist.

If you use Ephpod, you can select all the songs u want in a playlist, and create a playlist from that. Pretty simple.

You can organize songs by the date that you added them too, so it makes grouping songs you want on a playlist easier.

Ephpod also allows you to find any songs that aren't in any playlists (orphan songs).

Hope this helps.

I usually just used the "Most Played" playlist. I listen to iTunes a lot at home, so whatever songs I'm digging then get added to that playlist, which then gets put onto the iPod.

I've had an Ipod for a while. I currently have a few things for my Ipod, all of which I'll tell you what I think is worth the money.

Case: Iskin eVo2 Arctic color - I've used a few cases for my Ipod so far. I have a 4G Ipod. But I believe they make cases for all the generations of the Ipod, including the mini. Before I simply had a leather case that wasn't too bad. But after having this. This is the best case in my opinion, and it's pretty cheap too.

FMtuner: Itrip FM tuner - This thing...sucks, It was horrible in the car. However I made it better. I found a tutorial on Ipodlounge.com on how to make it work better, much better. In fact I I made the range at least an extra 8 feet I believe (I'm not sure how far the range is, I haven't tested it.)

Docking station: Built one out of legos. It's pimp.

Headphones: KTXPro1 Stereophone headphones - They work surprisingly well for how much I paid for them, and only cost me 20$. But in the future I want the wireless headphones from Logitech but the pricetag of 120$ is keeping me away until I got a load of cash to throw around.

So what's the best way to have Ipod in your car. I only have radio and CD, no tape player so no using one of those car adapters.

I just wanna be able to listen to a lot of songs for those long trips, with variety. I don't have an MP3 player in my car either so any help is appreciated.

my kenwood, and some other that have the ability to use a cd changer can use the "cd changer to aux in" cable and just hook up through the headphone port.

check w/your manufacturer if your unit is capable of cd changing and search around for a cd changer to aux in cable.

Yeah, when I found out I could hook up 3.5mm to RCA cable from the back of my deck (or head unit :xeye: whatever its called) to my iPod, my XPLOD system became useful again.

Anyways, can any of you guys recommend me a good leather case that you can quickly remove and have access with your iPod. I have the Belkin iPod cup holder thing and it holds the ipod really snuggly, so I'd have to remove it from any sort of case before I'd put it in the cup holder. So that's why I need a leather case that I can still use away from the car to protect it and one that I can quickly put on and take off.

Does anybody know how to put files on the ipod in the Audiobooks folder? Because I have an audio book, but it's just registering it as a regular mp3. If it were registered as an audio book, I could use some of the neat features like speeding up the audio to get the story done with faster.

Mine has a built in FM tuner, for some reason this one doesnt, and the one I have is no longer listed at the main website.

Anyway, I copped it a best buy for like $50. It works great, you could set up to 4 presets, and it charges your ipod as well. Its only for the mini though

Quick random tip:

Should your 4G iPod ever freeze up in the middle of playing a song/switching tracks/whatever, give your iPod its own special CTRL+ALT+DEL. Hold the center button and Menu together for 6 or 7 seconds. The screen should shut off and turn back on. Shit saved me from throwing it out my car window one day.

Um, If I recall all you have to do is set it to "Allow disk usage" or something like that in Itunes. But I also remember the ML_Ipod plug in for Winamp automatically sets it up for use as a detatchable HDD. Podzilla (Ipod Linux) should work too, but it's not ready for the Ipod 4G yet last I remembered so I'd say don't install it yet since you might turn your Ipod into a doorstop.

granted my answers are gonna half ignorant til my woman gets home, but no, it's not quicktime only. zero sound lag. watching a movie is incredible, despite the screen size (which is the largest yet for an Ipod). battery life, i have no clue.

Why would you want to copy your library onto another computer? Do you want to make space or something on your ipod so you can add more songs? Well anyways, what you can do is download Itunes and when you install it, choose the option that lets you manage the music yourself. That way, you can freely update w/o having to copy your entire library each time.

I dont have a computer, so all my music is on my Ipod. Im afraid if I update my Ipod on a new comp, it will wipe the info I have on my Ipod and my music will be gone.

Can I put my music on a new computer without everything being erased?

TheProfessional
12-08-2005, 08:56 AM
Thats exactly why I suggested that you choose that option when installing Itunes. That way, the library is modified by you and you only. When you plug in your Ipod, it does nothing but detect your ipod and make it ready for copying.

edit:

here's the option that you're looking for when you go to install Itunes. It'll be worded slightly different, but anyways this makes sure that it does not mess with any music on your Ipod.

Ah man, I wish you had posted this a few months ago when I was looking for earbuds too. I found a decent pair for around 60, but I decided to keep the cash instead. Since then, I've been through like 5 pairs of generic Sony headphones >:|

So my iPod is going crazy on me now. Songs started skipping and my iPod would start lagging hard while navigating through menus. I couldn't get it to register on my computer for a while, and when I finally did, I formatted it, and now I can't get it to start up. Its a 3g 20gb- any idea how much it would cost to fix? Or should I go ahead and get a new one?

The new iPod models don't appeal to me at all. Yeah, the Nano is sleek, but 4gigs is not going to cut it. I also don't need photos or videos on my iPod either.

Suggestions?

In Regards to PLAYLISTS, alot of people simply give this waay too much work.

When I bring a song into iTunes the first thing I do is set up the song with the following:

Title
Artist
Genre

and that's it. That way you can sort by Genre, Artist, Times Played or just search alphabetically for the song you want. Beyond that you need to make playlists, here are mine:

"New"- Just fairly new songs, this playlist I listen to a good deal, it also serves to tell me whether or not a song deserves to stay on my list

and that's it xD

This skin is pretty dope. Just got it in the mail a couple of days ago. One of the best iPod skin for this 5th gen. version I've seen and used. It's pretty thick and seems to be very durable, the look and feel to it reminds me of truck tires or something. It also fits both 30GB and 60GB versions. It's well worth the price imo, but you can also get some on eBay for cheaper(not by much though).

My 60GB iPod Photo is pretty much dead. It had the skipping songs problem and a bunch of lag time which usually resulted in a frozen iPod, and then when I resetted it via holding down the Select and Menu buttons, it gave me the Sad iPod screen. And now I can't get it to mount on my computer, or to even charge it.

Is that a late generation Ipod? From what you are describing, those symptoms sound like a 4th generation.

If it is in fact a 5th, take that shit back if you can.

If it's a 4th, it sounds like the hard drive connectors are faulty. Answer these:

Does your computer have trouble recognizing the Ipod sometimes?

Does it freeze?

Does it turn off on it's own or refuse to turn on?

Do you hear any clicking sounds (hard drive stuck)?

Does it show an Apple Logo but refuse to go any further (No startup)?

Do you ever get the sad face icon?

SaffronsGhost

It's 4th (click wheel thing) so yes please Mistress! :pleased:

Does your computer have trouble recognizing the Ipod sometimes?
Not really, but it's super slot to recognize it.
Does it freeze?
It is starting to now, yes :|
Does it turn off on it's own or refuse to turn on?
Honestly, i didn't even know you could turn it off since theres no buttons. I've only had it 3 days but its been "on" that whole time.
Do you hear any clicking sounds (hard drive stuck)?
Slightly yes.
Does it show an Apple Logo but refuse to go any further (No startup)?
When I first got it I had a folder with a "!" on it appear, but I think I'm past that problem now.
Do you ever get the sad face icon?
Nope.

Am I fucked? :(

I don't think you are. You could restore it and run the disk utility but only as a last resort. Restoring will erase your songs.

Do this:

Turn the ipod over in your hand with the front touching your palm, and "spank" the back of the Ipod. Give it a little force but don't drop it.

If that doesnt work, then you can try and drop it. I would recommend you wrap a thin cloth around it so you don't damage it.

If you stand up and hold out your arm straight and let it drop to the carpet, that should be a good enough distance to dislodge a stuck hard drive connector.

Or, try to bang it around a little bit on your desk top. Since yours is working intermittenly, it will be kinda hard to tell when its fixed. Use common sense I guess. Don't go for broke or anything, but be firm. You can even do this when its connected to the computer, but be careful not to jerk either end of the cord out!

The reason this usually works is because sometimes on the 4th gens the hard drive gets stuck or a hard drive connector becomes loose. It's a design fault...Go figure.

Just keep working with it until you can get it to do what you want. If that doesn't work then you can try and restore it to factory settings...But do the beat down first.

This isn't doing anything Mistress  Also, you know how, when you add tracks to the ipod, in the Now Playing area it tells you? Like "Track 8 of 43 transfering"? Mine doesn't even do that anymore. It just...doesn't work and says nothing till I get this error:

Reinstall Itunes.

I'm sure you could open it up, but I've never done it personally and I believe Apple refuses to service Ipods that have been opened.

If it is a hard disk connector problem, firmly whacking it around would fix that usually.

Edit: Oh yeah. I think you can turn it off by holding the Play button down until the screen goes black.

Where did you get your install from? Go ahead and re-download the latest install package and try that.

If it is a problem with Itunes, then keeping your computer clean and in top performance would only benefit you. It could be something that is interferring with Itunes...But I've never heard of that.

Also, try and update your Ipod with the latest update they have.

Yesterday I upped my iPod to the newest version of software so that can't be it either...

You have USB 2.0? An older version will result in a much longer uploading time.

I feel for ya man. The 4th gen is riddled with problems. But usually most of them come from that connector problem and once you get that fixed you are ok. I fixed a friend of mines Ipod about 2 months ago and its been working perfectly ever since. Once you get past that, most of them do perform pretty well.

You know, it may be the cable you are using if the Ipod itself is working okay.

But I still think it's your hard drive connectors or a stuck head. A hammer might not be a bad idea actually :)

Did you run the diagnostics on it? All came back okay?

SaffronsGhost
03-18-2006, 08:04 PM
I've used both USB2 and Firewire, they both suck ass for some reason (way slower than they should be)

http://www.icb2.com/Ghost/12thproblemin3days.JPG

Also since this (http://www.icb2.com/Ghost/nowwhat.JPG) doesn't tell me shit...is that IN my ipod or IN my computer? I can't find those files/directorys at ALL, so I can't fix them change them or ANYTHING.

http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/

This link shows you how to get into diagnostic mode and what the tests do.

On the 5th generation, you can either choose manual or auto tests. If yours give the same option, go with manual.

You will need both firewire and USB cables at hand to be tested by the Ipod. If you get stuck, try pressing a few buttons as some tests require this like my color screen test. If pressing doesn't help, simply use the same reset button combo to get back out of the Diagnostic mode.

Pay attention to the guide carefully.

Also, I think you should trash the Itunes and try a 3rd party program instead. Try a google search for some good free programs or maybe someone here can recommend.

Edit: I MEANT AUTO TEST. AUTO!!!!! Manual is kinda far from English and it's hard to understand.

The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"

Seriously, I give up. Here comes the hammer. Thanks Mistress.

I am having the same problems as saffronsghost. This past week it was giving me the folder and sad ipod, after a few hours of messing around with it it could transfer a few tracks. But now I tried to put back my songs and stuff that I had before, and it says that there is not enough space on the hard drive. I have a 40gig 4G and have had it for a little over a year (how convientent for apple) and all of a sudden it crapped out, I didn't drop it or anything, it was just idle for a couple of days. I know the hard drive is messed up since I can hear a click where the disc spins.
The slap method hasn't fixed it and I think my hard drive is just totally fucked now. I am considering going for something else because this shit just refuses to do right.
Anyone have any other advice to fix it or recommended mp3 players?

I've been using Eghpod as an alternative program but several random songs that are transferred to my iPod are blank, which means when I play a bugged song, it'll just simply skip that song and go to the next song.

Airswish you can buff out scratches with some brasso found at any hardware store. It takes about 20 min to an hour though so make sure you have time. Stuff works amazing. You can search google for some before and after shots.

I just got some koss ksc75 as recommended by playlist mag and goodcans.com. these things blow the original ipod earphones out of the water (but what doesn't?). The original earphones are like watching a dvd through RF, everything's fuzzy. The ksc 75 is like s-video.

Now that I got a taste of good sounds, I want to upgrade even further to a mid/full size pair of cans. I'm looking at the grado sr80. Anyone have a pair of these? Not trying to turn anyone away from Apple, but I recently purchased a set of those JVC Gumy things and they blow the originals out of the water.

The ones that came with my ipod (like so many others) adopted a vibration problem and they don't hold up well at all in general. Plus the plastic hurts my ears after about an hour of listening.

These Gumy phones have some kind of silicon coating that make them extremely comfortable and they stay in my ears even at the gym.

Plus the sound quality and volume is twice what the originals could dish out.

For anyone who is looking for a cheap upgrade, I highly recommend these. They are only $9.99 and come in 5 different colors.

how's the sound in the midrange on those jvc gummy earphones? The koss ksc has really good mids and bass but the volume is a little low because the ipod can't power it enough I guess.

If you turn your Ipod earphones so theyr'e parallel to the ground when you're standing up, the sound will improve. i did that and got a cut in my ear.

if you want to match your ipod, get some sennheiser px100, px200, or px250. the 250 has noise cancelling. those come in a white color to match the Ipod. According to goodcans, none of them stack up to the koss portapro which uses the same driver as the koss ksc 75. My guess is that the koss ksc75 will sound better than the senn portables too. seriously, just get the koss ksc75. Only bad thing about them is you're gonna want to get your music in only high bitrates now.

yo dreaded fist, if you're looking for some good headphones for your ipod check out the sharp hp-md33s earbuds. Bad thing is that you have to import them. I got mine from audiocubes.com.

They're "in-the-ear" style buds which isolate extremely well since they block all external noise from going into your ear canal, if you're concerned about turning your ipod volume up too high to block out ambient noise. The bass response on these are excellent too, which is a good thing because I feel that the bass on Ipod really really sucks.

Ipod drives it easily too.

BTW i recently got a pair of the ksc75's and i wasn't too impressed with them, probably cuz the ipod can't drive them well enough. That and I dont like the fact that sound leaks so everybody on the bus or in the library can hear my music.

The headphone is two parts, a foot long headphone part, and a 3 foot extender. With the ipod, you can use the md33s without the extender but with portable CD-players or other headphone inputs you need to use the extender or you'll only get audio out of one ear.

But I dont see why you wouldn't wanna use the extender anyway unless you put your ipod in your jacket or shirt pocket.

So I have to buy a new one. So that's like 20 bucks out of my wallet for sure.

My iPod nano got thrown in the wash buy one of my friends, because a different friend threw up on my coat. Prior to being destroyed I told him "check the pockets!" anyways its gone.

What should I do? buy a iPod w/video or wait until Jobs is like OMG NEXT GEN IPOD WITH TIME TRAVEL.

My iPod's battery is teh suck now, only around 3-4 hours of play time fully charged.

I need to buy a new battery, I'm planning on buying one from ipodjuice.com, but is it reliable? Or are there better options? Would appreciated if someone pointed me to the right direction, thanks.

if you haven't totally trash the ipod earphones already, you need to do that now. I just got a pair of alessandro ms-1 and I can now tell the difference between 320 and 192kb/s clearly and if I focus, I can hear the difference between 320 and 256. With the koss ksc I can only differenciate between 320 and 192. WIth the old ipod earphones, I can barely tell the dif between 128 and 320kb/s. Utter junk.

To tie you over until youg et some good headphones, you can turn the ipod earphones so they are parallel to the ground when you're standing up and the cord is pointing to the front.

Before I thought it was crazy for people to spend a lot of money on headphones but it's totally worth it. I mean you already spent $200+ for a player, why settle for crappy headphones.

its already on factory settings though...there's nothing on the ipod besides the menus.
also there are two options that come up with the updater, and they are restore and update. i click update and the error occurs. i click restore and it never restores..the bar never gets all the way full. i'm using an ipod mini if that matters.

it says:
firmware update failure. disk write error.

you just trashed and cursed your old ipod and now you have another one that's still giving you trouble?

Are you using a high powered usb port? As in not the USB port on the front of your computer. How far does the bar goes when you try to do a restore?

ok, well i was able to put songs on the ipod using ephpod after i found my installation cd from my old ipod...but i wasn't able to play any of the songs on the ipod because i still have a folder with the exclamation point on there. i've tried following the steps on the apple site but i haven't had any luck whatsoever. its very frustrating.

i got this ipod from a friend after trading him a pair of eire dunk sb's to him.

i tried to format the ipod by going to my computer, looking for the ipod drive, left clicking and hitting reformat. that worked, but i still get the folder with an exclamation on it. plz help i'm so tired of this and i just want to listen to some music. *sigh*

also, now when i put in the ipod cd and plug in my ipod to the comp, it says it doesn't need to restore. i'm still getting that exclamation point, however.

i'm on a different comp now. i used the usb in the front of this comp, but i'll try the back one now.

*edit*
i need to mention that when i made my last post, i had no exclamation problem, but i tried to disconnect my ipod and it said ok to disconnect on the bottom of my screen, so i went with that, and disconnected my ipod, only to see that the screen on my ipod said do not disconnect, which caused the exclamation point problem.

yes. um...start taking songs off your ipod using ephpod NOW to prepare. basically, back your songs up and be prepared to have to restore your ipod at any time.

my problems were solved with the disk the ipod came with, so if you don't have your disc, IMHO you're fucked if your ipod ever acts up. nothing worked except the disc my ipod came with, as far as fixing my ipod. i finally got the damn thing to work.

@defcon: try using ephpod. google it and you should be able to find a d/l link.

na, i mean ephpod is a program that you can use to copy songs from your ipod and put them on your computer.

Anyone having serious problems with the new Ipod update? I am thinking about just installing the version of itunes that came with my Ipod because it was less problematic. Basically, most of the time itunes won't run. When it does run, I can only do itunes and only one thing in Itunes or it will lock up. If I am updating, I have to shut down every single thing on the computer and it MIGHT not lock up. It's just gotten ridiculous.

You could enable disk usage on your ipod, then copy all the music files to your ipod, then reformat your computer, then copy all the music files back to your computer, delete the files off your ipod, then run itunes and update your ipod. Its a bitch but it works.

1.What's the cheapest price i can get for an Ipod?
2.Is an Ipod the same as an MP3? If not, which one is better?
3.Can i get any songs i want, once i have an ipod, like downloading any songs(is it legal)?

1. I don't know. Depends on how much a crackhead is willing to offer one to you.

2. iPods and MP3 Players are the same thing. They're all made to play digital music. Which is better is subjective. I own a 60gb iPod video plus a 256gmb iRiver Flash player. iRivers have better sound, by far.

3. You can put whatever songs you want on it. Obviously it isn't legal to just download and put whatever songs on it, but the vast majority do... so who cares.

My battery wasn't holding the charge, it runs out after like two hours and it's the video ipod which is suppose to last around 20! i don't even watch vids. so i sent it to apple for a replacement, we'll see how long it takes. it costs me $0 at this point since i still have the 1-yr warranty. so if your ipod fucks up, take advantage of the warranty.

Usually, depending on the model, it's an issue of a faulty hard drive connection. When you beat it, you're trying to pop the connection back together. Same goes for why it fucked up in the first place, so once you get it working good, try to be gentle with it.

Na, it's not a conversion problem. I've stepped him through converting a video with Nero Recode and I've even sent him one of my own conversions that work fine for me, and Itunes just isn't picking any of them up.

I'm thinking it's either an Itunes version issue or possibly a Firmware issue.

Oh, and Anapod doesn't work either.

Before I get started. My Ipod was given to me by my brother, so I don't have the Itunes disk or the instruction manual.

OK here's my dilema...I moved back in July and during the trip my Ipod needed to a recharge. Well, I didn't get a USB2.0 charger 'till yesterday (Sunday, yeah a long time I know). So went out and got one and plugged it into my friend's(who I'm living with)PC and at first it just showed me the battery with an exclamtion point. His laptop never had Itunes on it in the first place, which I'm guessing is a problem.

Anyways it started charging(took forever, but understandable seeing as how long it was dead for) and once I all was said and done, all my songs I previously had on their were gone only to be replaced by some fucking garbage shit. No biggie.
Once Itunes was up I cleared them out of their but they are still in the Ipod.

So here's my problem....well problem #1. Everytime I plug my Ipod into the laptop via the Dock Connector USB2.0, a little window comes up asking me if I would like to download a "new software version [3.1.1]. I click Cancel, like I did back home cool. But on top center where the apple(and song and titleare as well) it always says "Updating Ipod. Please do not disconnect" When it's done "updating" it only says "Updating is now done" I figure it does this since their are no songs on the Itunes.

- Problem #2. I dl'ed the FotNS game soundtrack rip and it doesn't let me drag and drop like it used to on my own PC. When I try I get a circle with a line trhought it when I try put in the Ipod icon next to my user name for it. When I try to d&d the Icons don't show up on the Itunes either. You know how when you move something to another folder and there is that gost image of the things you are moving? Doesn't happen here.

Is this because of the comp or what?

Is there anyway to auto-delete all the unused folders in your itunes...

Like say for example I have some 50 Cent and then delete the music is gone, but the folder is left behind. Ideas?

i just got a free ipod nano from work and noticed that the bass has this horrible distortion. i've tried the different eq settings and they're mostly crap. it's not the earbuds 'cause i tried the same songs from my pc and they're fine. i'm using anapod to transfer my songs

I bought a 1GB shuffle, the little clip one today. Just wondering if anyone knows how long battery life is or how long it takes to charge. So far iTunes is pretty simple to use (its my first ipod). It just takes a while transfering a lot of songs at once.

Ok, I found out I don't have USB 2.0 ports on a BRAND NEW FUCKING COMPUTER I bought 2 months ago.
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/7099/untitledgx6.jpg

anyways, when its connected to my pc, it blinks orange, i found out that means its synced to my pc, do not disconnect. So I eject the ipod from itunes + my pc and now the light is completely off. Does that mean its fully charged?

2.0 usb port just make the addin pics/music/videos faster really 1.1 works fine still.

1. To charge it you stick your ipod in while itunes open

2. You sould look at your ipod snice you don't have a 2.0 usb port it gonna have that do not disconnect crap and gonna be gray for a while.

3. After like a minute it should change into charge mode and you will notice it when the ipod has a bar with a blinking lighting.

4.When it switch to a plug then it compelety charged.

5. You can take it out now i usually right click on the the picture you posted above and click remove and it then itunes usually pop up a message that says "its now safe to remove your ipod" but i also think you can remove it by clicking "eject disk" on the bottem right hand corner of itunes but im not sure on that one cause that not the method i use.

After about 1.5 years. My iPod (20GB Photo/Color LCD - no video) started freezing up on me, so I manually reset it and it worked fine for a few days. Till it happened again, and when I tried to reset it the Apple logo would pop up and then I'd get the iPod with the exclamation mark icon. With a link to apple.com/support , so I checked it out and they seem to say it's an hardware issue. Does anyone know if this is battery related or hard drive related?

Once this happens it takes me like 2 hours or 3 hours to make it back work, it is pretty much random and it's pissing me off because honestly 1.5 years ISN'T that long for an electronic product these days. At least not in my opinion...

I just got an ipod 80gb. This is my first ipod ever even though i swore i would never get one. i gave in once i saw vids from my friend's ipod and i'm loving it!

One question though. I see ppl here use ephpod to take things out of the ipod but it fucks up a lot and it's hard to grab stuff from it. Is there a better program to grab shit from other ppl's ipods? Thanks.

default it as a hard drive and you should be good. i think you will also need ot go to other people's comp to add songs from their comp to your ipod. thats the way my friend does it. i'm not sure if there's any other ways, but i'm sure there is though.

External drive it, or try Anapod Explorer.

Since you have the 80 gig, it might not be the same. If not, it wont hurt anything.

Hook it up to your computer and see if soft ejecting it will work.

That first link used to be just a run-down of the 5 R's. Now it's some kind of bullshit step-by-step thing.

If all else fails and you can't use button combos, just let the battery die and then re-charge it.

Jah! My iPod Nano has worked fine for a few months, but just now I tried to play a song (.m4a format, which I had never used on it before) and now the player is frozen. The backlight is on and I can't turn the damned thing off. I tried plugging it into the computer hoping that iTunes would recognize it and, uh, unfreeze it but it didn't work; the disconnect USB device stuff didn't make a difference either. Also, I don't see a way to physically open it so that's out. What should I do?

Thanks.

Edit: False alarm, tried resetting it according to Apple's site and it works now. Shouldn't have panicked I guess. Sry.

OK I download some video files already in mp4 format off of torrents.

I tried to put it in and almost all of them say - "cannot be played on this ipod".

I tried to shorten the title cause that caused me problems before but i don't know what this is?

Can someone help me out?

I use a program called Videora Ipod Converter. Works well for me.

I've had a 60gb video iPod since..I think 1 1/2 years ago. Used on a daily basis, typically 25 hours a week. Never leave home without it :)

For a long time I've been prompted to update my version of iTunes, so today I did (to 7.1.1.5) and now whenever I try to open it, it gives an error message saying "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration." I didn't change any settings or anything else, the old version worked just fine. Any ideas on how to fix this? Not too sure how to get music on this thing without iTunes, since unlike some other player I had before I can't put music on using Windows Explorer.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: LOL oh boy, 2nd time I've done this. Sorry people. For anyone who has that problem in the future, here's the help page:
