i remember when i first saw SF 1 (1988-89!) and the guy playin it was holding his jumper over the joystick so i couldn't see how he was getting his fireballs and DPs out, so when he left i wiggled and wiggled and it worked a treat, you only had to get 2 DPs and that was it...you win!

when SF 2 was first released, a sitting uppercut (HP) was considered to be cool, nevermind a combo, how 'sad' them days were...but in a 'happy' sort of way :pleased:

Holy shit that happened to me too! The guy wouldn't tell us how do do fireball and shit. We were so pissed! I think when I finally managed to do crouching m.k into fireball and standing HP into fierce DP. Wow! the good old days of Galaxy World Arcade. If you are from a Northwest Suburb in Illinois, you know where I am talking about.

I remember in Champ Ed. some kid was at the arcade and just did jab DPs with Ken, no pause in between. We were all at a loss. Shit went through fireballs! .....

... I may have picked up that habit and may still use it to this day

Wow, this thread is bringing back mad memories. I remember when I first learned how to do a dragon punch. I never knew how until world warrior came to the Super Nintendo and then I read the book. So I was in summer school at the time and during lunch, me and my friend Kevin ran into Eastern Carryout practiced uppercutting for half an hour lol. I finally got it and that day was the shit for me. I'll never forget it.

Also, those fireball wars were something memorable. Just like Nas said, keep doing it until someone fucked up, but did anyone do that with uppercuts. I swear, back in the day on Super Nintendo, me and my friend who is now my roomate would always go to the Thailand level stay back at full screen and do jab dragon punches

Yea, same. Maybe I should practice against you just to have an equal minded opponent. Most scrubs I can do really well against, but anyone who knows what they are doing with Yun usually own me for free (God I wish I could do some of these long-winded combos lol)

lol yea, like i said b4... when i first kept doing that on my brother, he was just like !WTF! he kept trying to stuff it, but got hit every time lol (in a3).

but i also remember the marvel vs capcom series now lol- i remember my first time in the arcade when xmen vs street fighter just came out (i think it was that one) and i picked magneto and bison bc they were the bosses lol, and just kept mashing the buttons to switch charactors LOL i actually got a bunch of lucky ass hits in, but then the other guy just beat me down after realizing my horrible strategy lol, those were the days.

edit- i had a lot of scrubby days lol (3s on xbl is the first time i actually learned a system of a street figher)

Man, I remember it like it was yesterday. My friend and I were playing some SF2 on Genesis, learning how to do stuff, and I was the first one to pull off a fireball. He asked me how I did it, and I never did tell him. I still feel kinda rotten for doing that.

I'm not even going to get into how scrubby I am at MvC and MvC2. It's embarassing.

I remember repeatedly botching parry attempts, hardheadedly making retributive super attempts when there was no chance at all that they would hit, and generally using Ryu as if I were still at home playing SFII:Turbo with my friends on the SNES. Seems like it was only yesterday... ahhh

Oh, wait. That was like this afternoon. Nevermind.

Ah, yes, the old golden years. When SF finally came to SNES, I didn't know what the big deal was. A friend brought his SNES and SFII, (I was a SEGA boy) and showed me the game. We were all hooked. I must have spent a good hour before I could muster a dragon punch. LOL To be 12 again.

Yeah, I remember jump f.kick sweep f.kick was the shit. Shoto mirror matches were the norm. Throws were a no-no unless dizzy, jabs were considered weak and useless, so everything was L or R trigger, and it was a huge deal to land the shoryuken on some poor airborne sap.

My scrubby days of SF were back in Bangladesh - and I used to be one of the best there at super turbo. When I saw the standard of play here in UK alone, I never bothered playing the game again.

EDIT: I was trying to say that I was too crap, not too good

But yeah - tick throws were cheating - even throwing after a blocked jump in was cheating. Some dude at my local arcade was gonna beat the crap out of me once because I had mastered Gief's 360 as a reversal counter and kept getting him with it everytime I blocked any of his attacks. Also, the cabinets there would usually be limited to 3 buttons. Two buttons would always be lp and mp, and the third button was (drumroll) 1p start! Clever arcade joints made the 1p start work as HK also, but I think that was one of the main reasons why we never got to learn much about the game.

I remember back when CE was out in the arcades. Me and my sister would play, and we would only ever use Chun-Li, E. Honda, and Blanka, because you could mash the buttons and do a special move.

I also remember when MK3 came out, me and my friend brought strategy guides to the arcade. We were just kids, but I bet we looked like such idiots carrying them around.

I remember beating some dude in CE arcade just by using cr. jab. The guy was so busy talking trash, he kept walking into them, and then screamed "OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU BEAT ME" or some shit like that.

The next match, we traded Psycho Crushers back and forth. High-level play to be sure.

First time I played SF2, I couldnt find what button activated the fireballs. Didnt realise you had to put in a special motion or anything, thought it was just like Streets of Rage.

First time on SNES, banned a sweep after a jumping kick cos that was unblockable and cheating.

happy days!

I remember that I couldn'y do the shoryuken for a long time cos the motion in the book as I remember was something like d, df, f, uf, u. The one day playing KI2 I managed to do Jago's version of it by pressing forward before the fireball on the snes. I quickly shoulder barged that huge switch on the SNES that uses to pop the cartridge out and tried it on SF2 with ryu, worked perfect.

Good Times.

I remember first seeing the game in the Caesar land arcades, Ryu's fireball was the shit! When I got home I would pretend to be him, throwing the blue frisbee I won as a prize screaming "Awuchit!" (thats what I thought he was saying, didn't realize it was "Hadouken" don't laugh, I was six! )

My friend got it on the SNES and we played the crap out of it, I remember how I wanted to play as Bison cuz his Psycho crusher looked cool and Vega because he could climb the fence on his level. Good times.

Then CE and Turbo came out "Now when your fireball hits your opponent, he's toast!"

Lets see for me it started on SF2:CE at a local Bowling aley. I started by using blanka and would just jump RH Cr.RH all day. Then spam electricty when I was geting up to stop cr.short throws. This was when I was 15. Then I got it on snes and could't use the pad to save my life. I would lock my self in my room for hours playing the cpu on the hardest lvl thinking it would make me better. It didn't. Then I bribed my dad into buying me this C&L championship controller for the snes. It had actual HAPP arcade parts in it. He made me get a B average in school. So i did and that was the last time I got over a C in any clas.

I spent hours and hours learning how to do specials. I even spent 2 days trying to figure out how the CPU would do 2 Sonic Booms with out having to charge for the second one. I did figure out how to over lap the charge though so I guess I did learn somthing. If you dont know what that is you do < > < P. So you can start charging before the next sonic comes out. I was very proud of my self.

Since then I really have never stoped playing SF. Now im 28 and have played over 20,000 games on live between HSF/3s/CvS2. Im fat and bald but I do have a good job. So i guess its not all bad.

Oh thank you SF for slowing down my life. I should be where I am now 5 years ago. But not with this SF adiction.

Too good Bob.

I remember back in the early 90's when SF2 hit the local arcade right next to my school in center city Philadelphia. I lived in that place in-between classes lol. I learned Blanka first and have been playing him ever since. I once went on a 72 game win streak with Blanka even against the best Gief and Guile players in Philly at the time. Guile was considered and was TT in SF2WW.

When I got SF2 for SNES it was ON! My boys would come over and we would play till the break of dawn. Good times.

I still have my C&L SNES joystick. Still works great. I even got the old Pro Action Replay cart and had some cool codes for turning the original SF2 into a Rainbow edition of sorts. It was nuts. There was even some trick to use Boss characters but it was all glitched up.

I knew I was addicted to SF the day I went to play at the local arcade and found that my fingertips where bleeding from playing so much. Some Chinese dude that was playing me got scared and took off. He told me I took the game too seriously lol!

BTW, I'm tall dark and handsome, have a beautiful wife and little girl and a good job. I'm training her to start beasting with Blanka. HA! :razzy:

I am and will always be scrubby at this game but it brings back great memories and Ill probably always enjoy playing it.I remember my buddy telling me to try out this game and how cool it was.No one knew anything and jumping RH crouching RH was devastating.Me and my buddy loved the game so much, wed scrounge up about 5 bucks a day in change and walk about 40 minutes to the arcade to play.Once I dragon punched and had no clue how but all were in awe. Then one day a guy would sweep knockdown us,and jump straight up with Guile and come down with fierce then flashkick. We had no idea how he was doing it but it was awesome. After people started figuring out moves and basics,I had an excellent strategy of jumping in with Ken and doing short kick then immediatly doing a dragon punch on landing. For about a week I was messing people up with this.By this time,SF was getting a great following at the arcade and there was always a line at the machine.Youd come up and plop your quarter on the top of the machine and wait your turn. There was nothing better though then winning a few matches and staying on the machine a bit befor finally being booted by someone.Zangief was almost never played but one guy was great with the SPD and always stayed on a long time. There was another guy that was so good,me and my buddy called him the inventor.Everytime hed come, wed moan, ohhh the inventor is here, knowing we were about to get a whooping.

One day though,me and my buddy are playing with the other folk, and from out of the back, the arcade workers wheel out a shiny spanking new SF-CE unit.It was pandemonium.Everyone went crazy with new colors, mirror matches, and figuring out the bosses moves. That was an awesome day.

Eventually they announced they were doing a home version on SNES,and everyone debated and said it couldnt be done justice on the home consoles.I bought every issue of EGM and followed the home release religiously. The SNES version turned out to be pretty dang good and I sat at home in bliss playing SF.The day SF turbo came for SNES,I remember I purchased on the day it came out and locked myself in my room playing for days on end.It was a great, great home game.

When super SF was released,I was stunned to see absolutely noone playing it at the arcade.I would always be the only one on it when I went there. It definetly was not like the old days. After not following SF for a bit,I came across hyper in an arcade I didnt normally attend.I played a few games and never played agai.

Then, after having grown up,I saw they were coming out with SF AE for xbox. But more importantly, for xbox live.As much as people bitch about lag and whatever else about live,it really is amazing what they can do nowadays.Sitting in the comfort of my living room, reliving SF with competition from all over the country and world even.I would have creamed my pants at the thought of this back 10 years ago.Its really fun to be able to hop on and play lots of different people and lots of different styles.I hope SF2 always has at least an underground type of following to it,its really a great great game.

So me and a few mates sat around trying to figure out the moves (wich was no easy task no marquee on the cab  ) took us a fair few games to even get a fireball out wich lead to the inevitable hado wars :looney: till we all got a bit better and knew shit (so we thought :p ) till one day im playing this dude and he's lookin frustrated im like whats up and i quote what he said " I cant SRK on 2p side can i jump over " lolzzzzzzzzzzzzz those were the days

12-07-2005, 07:58 AM
 Uhkay, uhkay... Yeah Doods 120%'s turn. I remember when SF2 first came out me and my friends would skip class and go to the Food Lion close to the school and play SF2. Anyways, my brother Tony says:

http://forums.narutofan.com/images/smilies/kks_chidori1.gif"You can shoot Sonic Booms with Guile if you press Back, Forward, Punch" (He forgot to mention to charge for 2 seconds).

So I was amped up and told my friends:

http://forums.narutofan.com/images/smilies/lee_nice_pose.gif"We got to play some SF2 today, my brother taught me how to shoot Sonic Booms with Guile".

We were all stoked! So we skip class, get there and I'm like: Back, Forward, Punch... Back, Forward, Punch... Back, Forward, Punch... Back, Forward, Punch... Back, Forward, Punch...etc, For like ten minutes of playing and my friends were like:

http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/images/smilies/upset.gif"Your brother's a lier dood and you look like a dork right now."

I was pissed at him for making me look stupid around my friends. So I came up to him and was like

http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/images/smilies/frustrated.gif"Why'd you lie about the Sonic Booms dood, that's so uncool"

I was like 10 at the time so I was righteously dorky ( http://www.comixfan.com/xfan/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gifNot that I'm any less dorky now). But all was cool when he finally told me about the charge, my friends never doubted my brother again... but they still thought I was an idiot so everyone was winners in the end... dood.

I remember getting my SNES with streetfighter2 for christmas and doing nothing but jump kicking & sweeps for probably a solid year or so....then kind of lost interest in it. Time went by...... then I happened to visit one of my friends one day, and by chance, a couple of her cousins were playing SF2 on snes.

These dudes were in there talking (and practicing) about 2-in-one combos and all types of SF jargon I had no earthly idea of....at the time. I played them a few times and of course they wipe the floor with me easily. Hell, I didn't even know how to do any special moves. They didn't play me but a few games though, as they quickly lost interest due to my utter lack of skills...

After that day, my SF fire was ignited..... Journey begins.....

I happen to track down a SF2 strategy guide (The one with Tomo Ohara (<--Spelling?) interview. I start practicing for probably hours a day (mostly alone or with my brother occasionally) just trying to do/learn some special moves. I thought I was the shiz when I finally was able to pull off a shoryuken on a half-way decent consistency. In an effort to get to the next level, I finally get the courage to venture out to a small quiet local arcade to practice on a joystick (instead of the BS pad). I go there to practice alone and just get somewhat comfortable with the sticks. While there, some dude with his girlfriend, starts stalking me down back & forth from the one SF2 machine to another SF2:CE machine, 100-hand slapping me to death with honda. I finally muster up enough skill to throw a few fireballs & sweeps to beat him. He shakes my hand and leaves.... (My first arcade win).

After a few weeks, I finally get confident enough to go the big arcade in my area. All I can say is, ....It literally became an addiction for the next year or so. I'm serious. Anytime I had an extra dollar in my pocket I was in the arcade spending it of SF. Trying to learn and get better..... Not to mention, the competition was everywhere it seemed. And that feeling...you know that nervousness you used to get whenever you stepped up to play. Big Screen. Everybody watching. Peeps lined up & stacking quarters for hours. XBL is cool, but man do I miss those arcade days.......

WOO HOO GO XBAND!

CigarBob!!

Wsup man!!! Yea, Xband was da-bomb!!! I thought my SF addiction was bad with the arcades. But when I got on Xband....I was dead to the world for quite a while. I learned so much crap on thing!! I still can still hear that xband music playing in my head.

Hey man, I'll be back on xbl hopefully this weekend. I'll be playing 3S mainly. ....atleast trying to play. Hit me up for some Games.

Is Lukesball still on or around? If so, definitely let him know I want some serious 3S sessions with him. He beat the living sh!t out of me last time. D@mn near put me into retirement.......

What about Sk? You seen or heard from him lately?

This thread is great, hilarious times.

I'm still pretty scrubbish, but there was a time when it was worse...

I remember how in SF2 back when I was a little chitlin, the computer, playing as Ryu, would just continue to spam Hadoukens. I remember thinking "Oh my God...he's unbeatable!" I would jump and jump and jump then BAM, shoryuken. I thought there was no way around it. Bear in mind, supers were unknown to me. I still get a laugh out of that.

Heck, for the longest time I would just completely omit mediums from my game. For some reason I felt mediums were unneeded, and I only required lights and heavies. Ha! I don't know how I was so dumbfounded that I kept losing.

Keep this drive alive, people, more stories!

How about constant hard kick whirlwind kicks with Ken and then a hard punch Shoryuken right afterwards. Or how about sweeping the computer everytime when it got up to win back in the snes days. I only realized maybe 4 months ago that constant special moves was not the way to play street fighter. I learned the real way to play sf after shinshay kicked the shit out of me online. :karate: Oh and Hard Punch and Hard Kick was all I needed!

Dude it was fun cornering ppl do like a million light kicks and then trip them, that was the super move and took lots of energy until I figured out how to do an fireball with Ryu.

And that feeling...you know that nervousness you used to get whenever you stepped up to play. Big Screen. Everybody watching. Peeps lined up & stacking quarters for hours. XBL is cool, but man do I miss those arcade days.......

Yeah I miss that feeling too.
I remember when I first played someone that was actually any good (or at least as good as me, most people were crap around my area), the intense round followed by a eerie wait while the score tallies up...what a buzz!
After the match would be either 'good game mate' or the scary slient, angry look and rushing into the back pocket to find more coins pronto .

More stuff:
* Not believing CE+ Ken's SRK would hit more than once without mashing HP.
* Dealing with my first turtler, rage is not strong enough a word...are you gonna do something or what? You boring peice of shit :annoy:.
* Being amazed by how easy it was to pull off specials in SF2 compared to SF1, thank you PC Engine :china:.
* Always using a HP SRK to anti air the opponent as soon as possible, oh to think of the extra damage I missed out on.
