I dunno, I think bands that get their merch up in popular spots is ok. I mean, if I was in a band, I'd want to make the money too.

Fucking precisely. The only thing that should matter is the music: all this underground rep bs needs to die, especially considering that since this is the age of the ipod, nothing is really underground anymore.

Screw the haters, Mastodons new album is great. Bladecatcher is a crazy ass song.

I'm a hater.

Mediocre riffs at best. Horrible vocals and stupid drumming. FILLS FILLS FILLS AND EVEN MORE FILLS.

fills are fun honestly, but when you're playing one every single bar it detracts majorly from the music. I'm just judging leviathan by the way.

The only mainstream bands that deserve respect are bands with their own unique sounds like Queen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Rush, those bands that changed generations forever.

1. Burzum, Graveland, Darkthrone etc. are mainstream. Every xerox copy of fat, ignorant, conceited and confused dumb kids that knows the word black metal knows who they are.
2. those bands you mentioned didn't do anything original either or change generations to come. Well other than producing additional dumb fuck kids like yourself who instead of listening to slipknot praise satan and nazism in the name of satan. go back to anus.com
3. underground =/= good. If that were true you'd listen to nothing but what existed on myspace. and you don't. Fuck, you'd be listening to the local music instead of going online trying to discover dumb fuck bands that you think noone else has heard of. Did you even know what it was like to be a real metal head? to go out drinking and just say fuck the man. beat up punk kids cause they gave you the eye? steal shit? rock the fuck out, not because you wanted to hear the music, but because there was nothing else to do?

I hate how the definition of metalhead these days is fat fuck ignorant white kids who's mommy bought him a computer and who's idea of rebelling is listening to bands he read about on anus.com because everyone at school hates him. go back and cry on your mommy's skirt.

have you realized how unblackmetal it is of you to be using a computer?

You're attempt at elitism is dismal. At least I back my elitism with legitimate points and defend them. "Because I said so" is not an argument.

It's stupid to bitch about how much music sucks nowadays. Every era has a handful of good music and a truckload of shitty music. The good stuff gets remembered and the bad stuff gets forgotten. That's how it is.

There are plenty of good bands out there right now.

New Blind Guardian is out this week, "A Twist in the Myth". I didn't think it was coming out this early (I'm still enamoured by the latest Mercenary album), so just an FYI for the BG fans out there.

On another note, anyone here like Sybreed? I thought their debut was a good dose of cyber metal, and I'm eagerly awaiting their next disk.

If you like "folk - metal", or just rocking tunes in general, I definitely recommend Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (The Apocalyptic Riders) (http://www.reitermania.de/). They have literally a fuck - tonne of influences and instruments on seemingly every song, from thrash to folk and beyond. Closest thing I could call them would be Rammstein crossed with Korpiklaani. They do a bitching cover of "Ghost Riders in the Sky", which can be heard (along with a few other songs) here (http://www.myspace.com/reitermania).

Oh yeah, I also picked up Rhapsody's greatest hits album "Tales From the Emerald Sword Saga" last week. That makes two bands this year that finally clicked with me after years of trying, the other being Emperor.

Before that I also managed to snag Non - Human Level's debut (side - project from one of the guitarists of Darkane), and Emperor's IX Equilibrium, which completes my Emperor collection!

lol interesting agruement aa_overmind has started, I dont claim to know the history of metal but I think your starting to lose grip on what your saying.

This myspace Era combined with emo has probably wrecked alot of minds, not saying you cant find good music on there, but not all underground music is cool, but like someone said underground does'nt really exists in this age.

Also a band or artist in general only sell out when they turn their back on what they were in the first place, good example black eye peas.

Selling Merchandise is for the fans thats how I see it.

Yea over the years ive been geting into Rock more, im not going into sub genres because thats just to make people separate and look cool.

I just like whatever sounds good my fav band is Biohazard, I always like to find new bands so if you guys know anyone good ones fill me in.

Maiden tonight was fantastic -

Stage setup was basically a WWI bunker with a bombed out city in the background, fucking tight.

They played all of AMOLAD, and It was like a well oiled machine top to bottom - For the Greater Good of God is fantastic live. Encore was Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden, the Evil that Men Do, and Hallowed Be Thy Name...

Awkward pause before the encore, and Bruce Dickinson came back out, apologized - said apparently there was supposed to be a giant flame belching tank and Eddie was supposed to come out - but the fucking plug broke or something - we got Eddie nonetheless - no tank - during the Evil that men Do - Full WWI regalia while playing air guitar on his rifle. Fucking tight.

Adrian Smith was fucking decked out like it was 1984. It was awesome.

A lot of the old heads/casual fans were pissed at the lack of old material, but the new album sounds like dynamite live. It was absolutely amazing - everyone in the pit was going apeshit. I have no complaints.

Highlight of the show for me - a fucking 40 something Maiden fan there with his two sons - he hoisted his six year old on the shoulder and the kid was giving the sign of the beast and everything -

Quoth the guy -

"I have a three herniated discs, and this hurts like hell, but it's fucking important"

THAT is what heavy metal is all about.

Some good bands:

Destroyer 666
God Dethroned
Usurper
Demonoid
Vital Remains
MALEVOLENT CREATION - my personal favorite of all time
Vader
Suffocation
Nile (some of their shit you may not like they have an Egyptian death metal sound, and fuckin awesome guitar solos)
Origin
Behemoth
Skinless

Cryptopsy - I know someone asked about them or whatnot, I liked their albums overall.

Shit I have so many cds that names of bands are escaping me at this time. You can go to cdnow.com or wherever listen to some tracks and figure out if you want to buy it...that's what usually I do. I for one can't stand power, melodic, or any of that screechy high pitched Iron Maiden bullshit, or that new metal sound of screaming at the top of your lungs and then singing clean...can't fuckin stand it.

Well you can definitely still hear the old Trivium in the album, but Matt Heafy ventures off more into "singing" rather than screaming/growling. Don't get me wrong though, this album has its moments of those as well. The solos as always are true Trivium i.e. shredding, dual guitars. And in this album more than others you can definitely hear the Metallica influence IMO.

werd to your mother.

I don't know how people listen to bands who produce albums without every song being great.

All my favourite bands have produced 1+ album where every song has been excellent.

Am I the only album person here? For some reason, liking songs but disliking an album feels so MTV age. Before MTV, people actually produced albums instead of songs. Cause it was the album that sold, not the song.

Dragonforce are very much a love - or - hate band, and I (mostly) fall in the love category. Saw them live this past summer, phenomenal.

Oh, and on a completely unrelated note, band that wins the award for most unintelligible vocals EVER: CUMBEAST (http://myspace.com/cumbeast) (the first song you can listen to is the "better" one, in terms of unintelligibility).

Yeah sorry Six. I love songs like March of the Fire Ants, but if you ask me to name any song off their new album I wouldn't be able to tell you because I couldn't get in to any of them enough to remember a name. Good thing I bought it on discount [Tower Records is going out of business in Hawaii. BOO!] By no means though am I saying they're a junk band. :]

Alcest have posted samples to their upcoming album on their MySpace (www.myspace.com/alcestmusic). The Le Secret EP was one of the best metal releases of 2005 and I can see this being the best metal album of 2007, if it's even metal any more?

Neige's other band, Amesoeurs (www.myspace.com/amesoeurs), just got signed to code666 records, also. Their EP was one of the best metal releases of 2006, so I'm very excited to see what's in store from them, too.

He tell's me that he works with their former drummer Henry Ranta. Apparently he played on the first four albums. My friend also tells me that he looks somewhat like Hardcore Holly (face only). Can anyone give me more info on this guy, I kind of find it hard to believe a talented drummer like him is working at a Meijer.

NILE: New Album Details Revealed - Apr. 11, 2007

NILE mainman Karl Sanders has issued the following update:

"We are currently finishing the mixes on the new NILE album, entitled 'Ithyphallic', our first album for Nuclear Blast [Records]. So far we have been nothing but thrilled to work with the entire cast at Nuclear Blast; they have treated us exceptionally well and have given the band a ferocious and inspirational new lease on life. Dallas [Toler-Wade, guitar/vocals], George [Kollias, drums] and I are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that this new record contains our best material yet, and Neil Kernon [producer] is working overtime to ensure that every single blasphemous note is heard in alll its primal savagery.

"There are nine songs and one short acoustic piece, two of which are epic length songs, yet overall a wide range of tempos, some doomy, exotic elements as well as some unbelievably fast and catchy metal. A few songtitles: 'Language of the Shadows', 'Even the Gods Must Die', 'The Infinity of Stone', 'Ithyphallic', 'Papyrii Containg the Spell to Preserve its Possessor Against Attacks from He who is in the Water'.

"We are, as could be expected, very much looking forward to our upcoming Australian tour. Our last tip down under went exceptionally well and we can't wait to play again for the rabid Aussie metal fans. We will also indeed be bringing the NILE brand of ithyphallic metal to the uninitiated masses at the summer Ozzfest, and, quite welcomely, playing our own NILE headlining shows for the off Ozz days. We are also anxious for the European NILE fall tour that is in the works where we will finally be able to play a nice long NILE set covering a wide range of material from all our albums."

NILE's new album is being recorded at Sound Lab Studios in Columbia, South Carolina. The band's last CD, "Annihilation of the Wicked" album, was released in May 2005 via Relapse Records. A video for the album track "Sacrifice Unto Sebek" was shot on location in Atlanta, GA by director Chad Rullman (MASTODON's "March of the Fire Ants", THE AGONY SCENE) for Supercollider Films.

Support on NILE's Australian tour will come from Polish technical death metal sensations DECAPITATED.

I have been waiting to see Obituary and Atheist for god damn who knows how long. Necrophagist and Suffocation are sick live, and Testament and Sadus are sweet thrash. It would be a fun show. Haha nobody could ever convince me that AxCx is any good. Seth Putnam is a cocksucker, and of all the people to come out of an insane overdose coma, it is the ultimate irony that it should be him. I would still have to choose Murderfest, however, just because there are more bands there that I haven't seen. (Fucking Repulsion's Horrified is so good, come on)

EDIT: What about the Maryland Deathfest though? I have ALWAYS wanted to get down there for that, although this year doesn't hold a candle to last year. Fucking Demilich was there (amongst a shitload of other good gore bands), and now I will never see the bastards live. Son of a bitch.

I personally think its very good - I drove all the way up to Cincinatti to catch the Heaven and Hell/Megadeth/Machine Head show, and the new band is very, very tight live. Especially Lomenzo, the new bass player - he was on point with all the vocals and the bass lines. They even did Take No Prisoners and he nailed that little 4 second bass solo. My $0.02

That guy is funny as fuck, we were signaling him to do a bass solo and he ripped a bad ass solo and ended it with a "I'm the shit" face. Golden. I was completely satisfied, they even played The Odyssey. I went home that night, grabbed my guitar and practiced like a mofo.

Didn't like the new Sonata cd, and I'm a very huge fan. I'm waiting eagerly for the new Cellador cd, fell in love with them, they got that old school mixed with new school power metal style that's just awesome.

No Dios, you don't have to print them out right away(go to the livenation page, it says so, my friend also confirmed this). I'm in the same situation. Freeloading printer usage FTW!

So where does your so called ticket redemption get kept? on the website through a personilized code after you wait your que, or do they send a copy of what you need to print out in your email address? bottom line, i can just stay home for now and print it out tomorrow or the day after.

Dios <-X->
06-12-2007, 10:13 AM
fucking bullshit, i refreshed the page over and over until i can enter my passcode and get my tickets, im like one of the first ppl do input my code, and im waiting 17 minutes in line, and then i get dropped and says srry try again. WTF the faster you get them the better seats you get, this is fucking gay.

TheSix
06-12-2007, 10:16 AM
You enter your redemption code when you want to print the ticket. It doesn't say how long they will hold the ticket(s) for you though.

This is way retarded. I got 1/2 tickets.....then as it searched for the last ticket, it says that there is no combined seating anymore. WTF? I'm not going to ozzfest by myself.

Dios <-X->

TheSix
06-12-2007, 10:40 AM
There is no seating in Lawn. It's either a grassy hill or some standing area depending on the venue. Some venues allow chairs/blankets.

But be warned, the lawn is mainly a pit area. Meaning pits start out of no where. People tend to through things at the people with seats because they are noobs. Don't be one of them.

Oh yeah and bring binoculars.

Bring seats? meh people will be jumping up and down like crazy and shit so it may be futile. i guess standing in the crowd of smelly metal heads is my option. oh well, hopefully it will still be fun....will i still need binoculars really? cant see shit?

Edit: shit the site must be getting RAPED. i cant print it from home, so im copy/pasting everything to my friend at work so he cant print it there, but he is getting a error message when clicking on the link i sent him to reprint the tickets....and im getting it too...but it was working a few minutes ago...fuck. i guess im just being paranoid. i got the reciept* email already showing what tickets i have and shit. its not like if i dont download it withen the next hour its going to be given away or anything...but i want it nowwww ;-;

99/100 times the female singer is just for gimmick value and sounds just like a half assed screamer. Although the chick from Watch Me Burn is on suicide girls, but shes kind of fat anyway. I think it can work for some of the cheesy power metal bands, but otherwise it gets a big  from me.

goodm0urning
06-12-2007, 05:03 PM
Bands with good female singers:

Synergy

Kimberly Goss is the female Dio. She sings with more balls than most male singers. The band in general sounds like a modern Iron Maiden, with a bit of the self-parody included.

Dark Moor

I forget this chick's name. She's a fairly clean singer, but she still has more intensity and edge than a lot of dudes. She is not in the band anymore, which is just as well, since she was probably the only remarkable thing about it.

The new singer is good, but if I were you, I wouldn't bother. Nightwish seriously has the second most annoying, pathetic fans in the world, behind only Slipknot.

I mean, I look out of place at the few concerts I've attended anyways, but Nightwish fans are the people who other metalheads hate with a passion. Ridiculously fat or skinny, goth, make-up and eye-line wearing sad sacks of shit.

I would feel seriously homicidal surrounded by these people for even a few minutes, let alone a full concert.

Dark Throne has no good albums. Everything they've ever put out is garbage. They are like the big inside joke of metal that fans can't seem to get. I would look back at it and see what you think of it now. I used to dig them in high school, but when I listen to them now all I hear is awful guitar tone, poor mixing, sloppy playing, and forgettable riffs.

Haha, I'm from Ledyard, CT, U.S.A. sir. And that Demilich show never went down. I should have gone to Maryland Deathfest a couple years ago when I had the chance. So I never saw them. Shitty. Saw Testament last month for the first time though, and I gotta say that Chuck Billy may be the best frontman I've ever seen, except maybe Bruce Dickinson. I gotta run to work, but I guess I'll give a little metal input real quick. I have never been a fan of melodic death metal in the classical sense of the word (I like Vehemence some other real heavy bands that I would classify as melodic) but I have to admit that Amon Amarth has gotten some ridiculous play from me the last couple weeks.

Also, it is awesome to see some intelligent metal fans. Good to see some people understand what its all about. Its not about the lyrics revolving around rape and shit, its about the heaviness and the headbangable riffs and the community of metal brethren. I am so sick of going to shows and seeing asshole metal fans there who give people like me a bad name. Yeah I love to mosh, I headbang furiously, and I listen to some morally repugnant shit, but I'm a good guy who is just about having fun. Some people consider Dio power metal. I don't know if I would, but hell... Dio is powerful.

I saw Black Sabbath w/ Dio(Heaven and Hell) a few months back during the Reunion Tour, and after all these years they still sound great. Dio's voice hasn't really deteriorated over the years(unlike Ozzy), as for the Dio solo albums, i've only heard the first 2 albums(Holy Diver/Last in Line) which were pretty good, i dont know if their really power metal, i'd consider them straight forward Heavy Metal.

Its best show i've ever been to opening bands where Machine Head, and Megadeth!

Rumor has it Mustaine banned someone from the Megadeth forums because that someone stated he was against Christianity.

Also, anyone into http://youtube.com/watch?v=tG2p3mswcu8? This is slowly becoming my favorite metal album of all time. It's funny having others listen to it thinking "it's just random guitars and drumming!".

Haha, Obscura is a legendary underground album. And it is in fact awesome.

Saw Megadeth last night in Providence. Lost my phone. Got knocked around. Good stuff. Setlist was amazing, but I wish they had played something off Killing is my Business...

Namely "The Skull Beneath the Skin." Would have been so heavy live. That opening riff leading into the shredding...would have been something else. But the same effect was had with Hangar 18 and Peace Sells so what is there to complain about.

Must say though, Mustaine still looks at himself as quite the little rock star, haha. Everyone in the band holding hands and bowing at the end of the show, waiting 10 minutes before coming out for an encore. Dave, its just a club show buddy. Haha. Whatever. Megadeth rules.

Edit: To the guy listening to a lot of Rotting Christ lately, I am in the same boat. Those guys are not just a gimmicky band name, they kick ass. I'm seeing them in February with Immolation and Belphegor. Saw Belphegor last year with Unleashed and Krisiun. Solid show. "Lucifer Incestus" is up there with my favorite live songs ever.

Considering it is thrash, being a respected guitarist is ya know.....kind of a big deal. Everyone knows who Slash is. Him giving props to Dave like that is long overdue IMO.

I went to that too, twas' awesome.

That's not true.

They were rehearsing "Skull" and "Ashes in Your Mouth" for this tour, but Glen said it's not ready yet and they want them to be close to be perfect. I neglected looking at the setlist before going to the SF show 2 weeks ago thinking they would play Ashes...didn't happen. Ah well.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Maybe I shouldn't tell you that they played "Ashes in Your Mouth" last night...

But they did.

My humblest apologies.
