Hey just doing a little poll to see what joysticks people are using out there.
I'm using a Nuby Soul Calibur 2 Universal Joystick. Its a bit crappy at the start, but after you break it in, it works pretty good. Only problem is that there's no voice communicator thing for it, which isnt a big deal, but still.
Any other suggestions for something better?
Give details as to how much it cost etc.

Heres a few people who could make you a custom stick. They are all reliable so no need to worry.

Just copy and pasted from another thread because Im lazy :P Custom sticks are good. You could also consider a Hori Real Arcade Pro
or a MasSystems stick

I use the sc2 hori IMO it's good. But nothing beats a custom sanwa, (i've seen a few and want one soon)

Right now I use a basic redoctane stick, but I'm going to overhaul it soon. I'm planning on buying new (convex) buttons and building a new case because the current one got beasted at Evo.

Used to play on that damn SF stick........still gives me chills thinking about it. I now play on the T5 stick, much better. Stuff is coming out like a charm (in training mode ^_^)!
Planning to get a Sawna in about half a year. I not a level that I already need one!

I'm interested in getting a stick too, but a good one. I had the SF:AC one for a week and then returned it due to the raised buttons. I'm always looking for a good Xbox-compatible one.
EDIT - so Hori Real Arcade Pro is considered one of the better sticks to get? I keep seeing PS2 ones for sale, are there xbox ones or do I have to get a converter? I like the sticks Finkle is selling, but I see the PS2 HRAP is half the price.
Are the X-Arcade sticks that are advertised crappy or something?

I added a couple of new ones to my site, and I'll have the new smaller MAS Systems joystick on there next week. :)

T5 stick modded with Sanwa stick (havn't tried the button mod yet, just stick). Did wonders. Plus, octogonal gate = hand orgy.

i have the anniversary stick only thing i see wrong with it is that buttons are somewhat too close to the stick. Other than that seems fine. I dont get why sooo many ppl constantly say it sucks and then they spout out that i should get 1 of 2 of the most obvious stick names. Which leads me to believe they are just jumping on the "SF AE stick sucks" wagon.
some kid in this said the buttons are raised (2nd time i heard this) so i just checked out pics of other joysticks and they looked to be about the same height.

A lot of people complain because 1) the stick is american. These are inferior and less responsive sticks. Second, I've had to return 3 because 3 buttons just stopped working, one of them the buttom became unglued when I wrapped the cord into it, and the last one would randomly get stuck in different and odd places. A lot of people have had these same exact problems, so it's not just a hate bandwagon. When it works, it's an ok stick, but there are plenty of better sticks out there if you're a real player.

I use the SFAC stick. It's pretty decent, I can pull off anything with it, it isn't as horrible as people say. I've got Happ buttons and stick but I still haven't had the time to mod it, though.

Guys what is the Hori Real Arcade Pro?? Is that better than (or as good as) a custom Sanwa stick? Just curious, cause I can pick one up for 80 bucks, I'm thinking about it.
Also, what about the Tekken 5 stick? How does it compare to the Hori or a custom Sanwa? (It's 100 but I can buy it down the street as opposed to online).

The sticks that you mentioned are all made by Hori which uses Sanwa parts, so there shouldn't be a real difference between the Arcade Pro vs. the T5 stick. $100 is a ripoff for the Hori T5 stick though.
The custom job should be more expensive if its done good considering they'll add the artwork/etc. of your choice. Be careful who you assign the job to cause they can do real shitty one also.
Sanwas are great for Namco/3D fighting games, I don't recommend them for SF or games where its 360/QCF intensive because of the joystick's ability to touch corners well - which kills your circular motions. It's great that its real loose but a Happ joystick with super soft spring is equally effective too. Sanwa buttons are great also cause its smaller and closer to the other buttons - great for karas.

I guess the Hori Real Arcade Pro is the stick to look for. PS2 only, so I guess I'll have to get a magicbox too. Those don't have any delay to them do they?

Actually, the only one who looks like an idiot is you. What is "if you wait for me to pick first I drop" supposed to mean??? WTF kind of retarded shit is that. Sounds like a pussy who has to counter pick (which doesn't work in 3s anyway).
Anyway lets get back on topic of Arcade sticks, here.

Well, here's what I'm looking to do. I want to have two different sticks: Japanese, and American. I need something as close to the Japanese arcade cabinet stick as possible. So basically what ur saying, Sanwa is the standard and Sanwa is whats in Hori, and Sanwa is what's closest to the Arcade (or is arcade?). So whether I buy the Real Arcade Pro, or get someone to make me a custom w/ Sanwa parts, it's basically the same thing?
As for good American stick, your saying I need something with Happ parts? So if I got my AE stick modded w/ Happ parts I'd have as close to the real arcade setup as possible?

4 Jap sticks:
Only go with a custom job if the engineer/techie is well known/experienced and your set on having it with the colors/designs/setup you want. If you're down with a generic Sanwa then yes get a Hori. Hori makes CFE/T5/Arcade Stick Pro/etc. but are only for PS2 unless stated otherwise. Hori uses hygrade Sanwa parts, the techie should be using Sanwa parts also cause they're the best for a Sanwa configuration.
4 US sticks:
A MAS stick is the arcade setup. www.massystems.com - end of story. They use the highest grade Happ parts and can make it for multi systems. I had mine done with a saturn, dc, xbox, ps1/2 wire to it. You can also choose which colors you want for the boards and buttons and what type of stick and buttons too. I have a Perfect 360 w/ soft spring - which is optical and has no switches. and do not listen to those forums that rant about the p360 cause they're old as hell - the 2k5 p360 models are error free. No other stick would do for US setup.

 you can im me ParryAll. But anyways, everyone keeps talking about lag with converters. I have the dreambox and the magicbox - never had lag issues. I'm more worried about the damn compatibility with these things. i had 2 magicboxes and both had the ps2 and dc ports failed on me. As far as lag - never happened to me.

Ehh, when people do that I go straight to Twelve. His worst matchups is...oh lets see...the entire cast. They go straight to Ken, and I still win. Then they usually drop afterwards. Gotta love Xbox live.

Parryall: I recommend that you get a Tekken 5 stick (with a magic box) and mod it later. If you don't like it (which would mean you don't like Japanese sticks as a whole, which some people don't), you can sell it for about what you paid. It can be modded relatively easily with Sanwa parts. The stick isn't as good as a Sanwa, but it is very good. Buttons aren't great, but again, good. At $50, it can't be beat and is a great intro to Japanese sticks.
And no, there is NO lag with the magic box on an X-Box with a Hori stick.

ok i found out i need to bust open a ps2/xbox controller to get to the PCB. I want to make mine just like the Anniversary stick's. (ps2 and xbox compatible WITH mic slot) I just cant find any info on xbox PCB cards. Cant find a place that will sell just the PCB cards either. PS2 controllers are cheap but xbox ones are abotu 30 bucks. and to fuck u on the xbox PCB and have to buy another would piss me off.

I don't solder my own controls, but I purchased a set of madcats controls for a buddy of mine to solder into. I can follow circuitry pretty well but my hands shake so I'm not that great for soldering. The circuitboards on the Mad Catz are great for finding spots to solder to, and in addition, they're cheaper and provide way more room than genuine xbox controls as well.
They're still expensive but much better than a standard xbox control if you're looking to keep it X-Box Only.
snookaydcc: im pretty sure you wont be able to just buy a pcb anyplace
but if your looking to get one with a mic slot then i recommend "Gamester Reflex Arcade Stick". this is what i have in my custom right now.
the stick itself is pure junk, but the pcb is gold -- and you dont have to solder anything to it.

The SFAC stick's pretty good, in my experience. I've used four and own three (one's modded, one's going to get modded, the other's staying as is for collection purposes). However, I've heard enough negative stories about it that I don't think it's the end-all, be-all of sticks. I think it's decent, though. And it's an EASY, EASY case to modify for Happ parts. All you need is the parts, a screwdriver, and possibly something to widen the plexiglass holes with. As a bonus, you get a Bao-Lian spring which you can take out of the SFAC stick, and put in a Happ housing for a very tight spring indeed. I like it.
Granted, I would rather use my custom stick than the SFAC stick in its retail configuration...but it is by no means a lousy stick. I like it, and breakages on it are usually easily fixed. If you want a decent base for making a US-style custom stick on, the SFAC is great because it's so easy to work on. If you want a US-style stick out of the box that works well, this will do the job.
Bear in mind, my response is from the perspective of someone who prefers US-style sticks, and hates Japanese-style ones. I've played on a HRAP. It's clearly a well-built stick, just...it does not handle like I personally need it to. I hate them because of that, but I don't look down on those who use HRAPs and similar Japanese sticks. They're just not for me; tastes can vary.
