In my journey to perfect the man named Ryu i've hit a wall. Any other Ryu players out there that wanna give me some tips? I've added kara-throwing in to my gameplay with him a lot more ...but now what else? besides some few flashy combos and my overall skill, that's all i got.
(and i refuse to use denjin)
and i want to learn alex to...so Alex users get at me

Heh, im a Ryu Denji player. I have to say playing RYu Denji is hard. We should play sometime. Im kinda hitting a wall myself. I do have times which I do things that are above my current level but I need to make these things the norm. What SA do you use?

I use a SAII... denjin is too hard for me to use. i forget i have to charge that bitch up. but if you ask me, if you play a good ken like philip kao's with ryu, it can help your game

SA 1 I think is the best. It's the best combo worth one.
Can lead to juggles and stuff
I'm not one to train since I'm learning myself but I've seen and occasionally done great things with SA1. Plus Ryu is a EX move beast. It gives you a couple stocks on SA and lots left over for EX moves.

WoW you use SA2? Personally I feel that SA is way harder to use then Denji. Denji is all about setups. Yea ive played Phil, he really good. I need to keep playing him. Lets match up tonight! Ill add you to my friends list when I get home.

SA1 is the best option for Ryu. You have lots of EX options and 2 stock SA. EX Hadoken really makes Ryu Dangerous. However, I play Denji cause it simply the most fun and it does take more skill to master.

Yeah I can see it being a lot harder. You go against a good parrier and it gets pretty hard to land the denjin.

SA1 that shit son and play solid cause flashyness gets you nowhere. Always be in control of the battle and learn to zone. That right there will improve your gameplay 100 fold. Play King Kindreds Ryu and learn from that, he rushes a whole hell of alot and can show you some setups with Denjin.

Here's a quick one-session guide to using Alex on Live:
Pick SA III. Build meter for the super by ending every jump in, poke string, taunt, or pressure string with the overhead stomp. Once you have meter cancel into it off of a shoulder dash. The End!
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial, you can find others like it at: www.gamefaqs.com
Seriously though, if you have good connections with Demon Grim or Kanri hit them up, they can actually use him real well.

Lol, I almost thought you were serious there for a second.
My friend TJ plays Ryu, offline. I don't think you can teach his style though, he basically just parries EVERYTHING and I have no idea how he does it. He's a magic man, and his Ryu is top tier.
One thing that is good to remember though. Ryu's jumping HK can hit very early or very late, beating parry attempts, and can almost combo any way it hits. You can hit some very high damage combo's off it, as long as you're using SAI. SAII is ok but you almost need Ryu's EX moves. If you're gonna get into SAIII just watch some Frankie3s vids and pay attention to the setups.
Hope that helps.
Ryu's SA3 is a guaranteed 30-40% if you master the setups. King Kingdred uses Ryu SA3 right? He didn't rush me down very much when we played -_-; And me and him get this weird lag thing, so SA3 is very annoying -and me playing his Ryu SA3 online gets annoying as well =P Although I think we had one session where we went up to 18 games or so. (I think he picked Sean the last time we played, but he's mainly a Ryu SA3 user.)
The best Alex on live is by far CloudKen aka Young_IC3. He plays very solid and is very annoying -unless I use my speed whore Ibuki :badboy:

1st off. Best super arts IMO is SA2, two bars=more ex, you don't need his super much.

guarenteed ??.... how is that. i only see ppl charge up after they knock someone down. Then on wake up they shoot it. Even I normally parry almost all of the hits (lag permitting). I even parry the charge shot when they do it standing next to me in a corner. So im pretty sure alot of better parriers can parry all of it everytime.

i think thats the only type of alex i play. No no, there is 1 other type. There's the alex that (not sure what button) hits the jab then contantly tries to grab with his HCB+P. Then if that fails, runs away to button mash Strong Punch to charge meter then shoulder tackle into head stomp.
I normally parry the shoulder then jump backwards to smack them out of the super. What do the rest of you guys do ????

I'd recommend interchanging between all of Ryu's supers between matches. Makes you practice different aspects of playing since Ryu's game is so heavily based around his supers.
Another thing which I've had to practice after playing a few tourneys is his jumping. Ryu is slow so quick players actually wait to see him jump. I haven't found any set ways of getting around this, just different depending on the opponent. For example, against players that like to dash under a lot, I'd just go for a EX-tatsu in the air JUST before landing. Even if blocked, it surprises ppl enough that you can get away with it the first time making people think twice about dashing under you.
The other thing for Ryu is patience. Truth is, most characters can outzone and outpoke him, so no matter how good your Ryu is in rushing people, it wont work at all against a good Ken or Chun.
I hate Ken and Chun

Then you aren't facing the right people. What happens if they toss out a slow fireball before sending out the dejinn to fuck up your parry timing? Or if you block the normal fireball, they release, forcing you to red parry the first hit of the dejinn? Sometimes it gets parried, its always possible, so I wouldn't call it guarenteed, but use the Dejinn right and I'd say most of the time.

Man there are all kind of nasty denjin setups. But against a decent player they will catch on soon.
But if you wanna learn some nasty alex stuff holla at me.

To Hold Dat:
You are better than me. No doubt. Even so, I have a tip. SAII Ryu inspires FEAR. It is so damn powerful, people change their game when you have meter (i.e. Chun SAII, Hugo SAI) to avoid being hit and have you make a mistake. Lay back a while, build some meter, then combo into full meter, super, thats all she wrote. Basically, I'm saying play a bit of keep away.

Honestly there was no need to rush you and yeah we do get a funny connection but it is in NO WAY no playable (not that you said that) WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT QUOTE?!?
CLOUDKEN IN OKAY!!! by no means the BEST ALEX!!! we played last night as a matter of fact I think the score was 10-4 my way.PEACE
My studies with ryu show me that SA3 is the best for him!! but thats for me Kara throwing is very good but you have to also have a nice poke game,What I try to do is poke my opponent to a distance where I can also Kara throw them!! That way they don't know what to expect.
Mix up the speeds from the normal fire ball when you throw the denjin,Remember if you use it the WHOLE POINT is to make your opponent block it,That with little bread and butter shit is what I do.PEACE

Hold Dat: perfect post (saves me from making my own.) I too am looking for ways to improve my Ryu (i also just picked up Alex.) I'm not that great of a player on xbox live (I beat an A or S here and there but XBL just makes me feel uncomfortable.) I'd love to play you or any of the other guys on SRK, i'm looking to primarily get some tips and have some fun matches/conversations with someone.
Hold Dat, i'll add you to my FL, if anybody else is interested either PM me or reply.
