I got it today. My eb said sep 1st but then I hit up GS and they had it. Been playing online for a while today.

2k2 has options just like svc and the netcode is the same bullshit.

2k3 runs really smooth online and has a shitload more online options then 2k2.

Why the hell couldnt they give 2k2 the good netcode and online options also?

Unlockables, let's see. For 2K3:

Play as Adel or Mukai: Beat them in any mode, then hold R Trigger over Kyo or Iori to play as them.
Artwork:
Unlock single character artwork by beating them in single survival.
Unlock team endings by beating them in team survival.
Sketches/Other stuff: Beat story mode.

For 2K2:
I forget the specifics, but you unlock Geese, Goentiz, and Orochi Iori in Time Attack of Challenge Mode. One at level 20, one at 30, and one at 40. King and Shingo are unlocked through Team Attack and Single Attack.

Picked the game up a hour ago. Man, they did a bangup job with the boxart and packaging overall. The flap inside game to hold the 2nd disc is so much better (not to mention more secure) than having the 2nd disc on the opposite side of the case.

I've been through so much trouble finding this game (I called the same stores so many times, two guys at EB said "oh, you're the guy looking for KOF" when I walked in), I think this is the most satisfying purchase i've ever made.

Have you tried 2003 online yet? The netcode for 2002 might be 'eh, but 03's netcode is solid.

Another thing I like about this game: no dropping. You drop, the other guy gets the win.

Well after my third visit to GameStop only to be let down again I got my reserve fee refunded and went to Fry's. They had it (btw it was $39.99)! Yay, so I just got done drilling another button hole on my controller for me proper SNK layout. I'm gonna screw around with it a bit today. Tomorrow morning I will be on Live.

Yama's grab super seems to be do a random number of hits. Doesn't matter how much I mash, it could be 17 or 42 hits. Should I be mashing all the buttons or just the one(s) used to do the super? left/right on the stick?

And did Kim loose his ground slide move? I don't even see it on the list (not that I'd miss it terribly. It was abused in CvS2).

I never played Vice in an SNK game. She doesn't appear to have her air grab :(

Overall I'm pretty happy with the game though (and I haven't even messed with 2003). Nice to have something new. Also nice having 40some characters which are all actually different!

Still trying to get back into the feel of 4 inline buttons. When we get the KOF forum I'd like to discuss button what button placement/configs you guys are using. I had modded my stick before having the game but I now see it's possible to setup a Capcom style layout. Although it just seems wrong to do it heh

I had to go through 3 local game stores to get it. I didnt go to the gamestop near me because I hate the stupidass employees there. No, I havn't had any problems with supers coming out, offline or online. Infact, complex inputs come out easier in this than in CFE or CvS2.

I believe Vice only has that air grab in CvS2. I know she doesn't have it in 2k2.

2K3 performs great online, but the game itself sucks, imo.

2k2 performs far better than CvS2 and is on par with, or slightly better than 3s/SFAC.

2k3, simply put, is the best 2d fighting game on Xbox Live (performance wise).

Its great fun playing either online, though. Definitely worth your 40 bucks :tup:

Nope. Disconnects are manual. I played 5 games (of 2k2) with a guy in Korea, and the connection was a little iffy, but it never dropped us.

The games you were playing it, did the connection read "Very Fast"? Every game i've played with a rating of that has run alot better than SvC ever did.

Someone told me that they fixed sualon in the console mode on. It's just what I heard so i'm not 100%.

damn best news all week, im buying this today. ive always wanted to get into kof, this is my perfect chance. thanks for the reply man.

edit: k i just bought the game and holy shit i had no clue they were putting in new backgrounds. the new zealand train level is the shit and the new mixes are awesome. nice to see color edit mode, gallery and what not because it shows some effort here. overall im very pleased, i went on xbox live but couldnt find any matches.

one thing that has me off guard is the button inputs, im used to the superspeed jabs/shorts from sf and everything kof just feels like it has different timing. i was having a hard time doing combos, the speed at which i slap my stick buttons seems too much.

anyways im definently going to check out the manual and head off to the practice before i get into live, for the long time ive been playing kof.. ive never gotten deep enough.

Man I wish there was some way to combine these two games. I like the character selection of 2002. But 2003's controls seem more responsive. Supers in 2002 are like a coin toss. I thought the no replay option in 2002 would be shitty but it's easy enough to create a game again. Lag doesn't seem as bad as people made it out to be either.
But 2003 is like butter on Live. The stages are fucking amazing too. I just wish it had more chars. Sure I wouldn't mind learning some new ones. But at least give me a few that we all know and love as something to get started with.
I consider this as something to keep me happy till Neowave comes out next year. If they can take the good stuff from both of these games and put em in that one I'll be one happy camper :)

I got in a ton of matches (in 2k2..I don't like 2k3 at all), playing at least 40 different people from 8pm-3am EST on Thursday and about 20 on Friday from noon till 3 pm. I tried playing this morning from 5-7 am, but no one was on. What times did you try playing?

And yes, the revamped background kickass. The ones in 2k2 where they've taken certain 2d objects and made them 3d is really cool (A chain in one level, all the trees in another, things like that).

I noticed my KOF2k3 disc has a slight layer of film (you have to look at the back of the disc at the right angle with good lighting to notice it. Its not visible unless you're really looking for it) towards the most outer part of the disc. I tried cleaning it, but it won't come off. Because of this, the Xbox is louder when you're playing the disc (only noticeable if you mute the sound).

Just like the KOF: Maximum Impact disc.

With KOF:MI, I returned my disc when I noticed this, only to get the same problem on 2 more copies (after calling 3 of my friends, they all had the same problem also), so i'm assuming that was a general pressing issue and is universal.

it was 2k2, at around like 9 or 10 i think. no lobbys or players, but im sure if i created one i might have got into a fight.

I figured out what the problem is. The game doesnt't freeze up it just stops responding to any input I give to my Pelican Real Arcade. This only happens when I try to check my friend's list and then try to get back into practice with the Pelican but with a normal d-pad this problem doesn't occur. Not really a problem though, I just won't check the f-list with the Pelican since the Pelican works perfectly with the game otherwise.Still weird though.

The KOF 02 rematch thing is wack but if you stick around i'll keep playing.

I played around 25 matches of 03 yesterday it seemed pretty good as far as network issues as I had no problem with control when I used my Saturn pad or Hori stick.
