What's tbe general consensus on tattoos? I'm getting some on both of my arms and a few on my leg and MAYBE on my chest. Is there anything I should watch out for before or after getting them?

Are you getting them done somewhere or by someone reputable? That would be the primary thing I would be concerned with (i.e. clean equipment and working environment). And of course, if you're getting it done by a friend, or a friend of a friend, or something along those lines, make sure you've checked out at least a couple examples of the the tattooist's work. If you haven't, and you're seeing it at the same time that you're getting ready to get tatted (i.e. they have a photo album of their work), and their work isn't up to your standard, then don't hesitate to walk away. Tats are permanent, and there's no point getting something on you that you're going to regret.

Don't drink or take painkillers, you'll thin the blood out, and that means the ink won't stick too nicely because you're gonna be bleeding it out.

If you're a bit suspicious of your parlor, go on bmezine and look up reputable tattoo places in your area.

As for location, I personally won't be getting any work done on my arms, because i'd like to get a job and it's bad enough i have piercings on my face. I hope you like wearing long sleeve shirts! :)

For the love of God make sure you spell check it. I have a tattoo of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes on my back with the words "Regreting it?" Around it. "Regreting it" not "Regretting it" It sorta works in my case and for some reason girls think its sweet. But Spell Check, and tip.

I'm not sure where I'ma get it done (this place called Eternal Tattoos in Roseville, MI near me is pretty dope though, may go there). I drew the design, I'ma pretty dman good artist, so no biggie there. ^_~ They said it would cost appox. $225 for what I want (its pretty big, so thats a good price). I'm black too, so I'ma go with reds, and black, and some yellow (maybe eyes?) for color. It would work against my complexion(sp?).

Big Pete Roasa: Which artist are you referring to? Is he coming to Las Vegas Tattoo, or somewhere else? If you have a link to some work of his/hers, I may be interested in checking it out. I went with Blue Devil (also in Ybor) for mine, simply because it was the cleanest looking shop in that area (and i've seen some really impressive ink walk out of there).

1) No. As long as your tattoo is covered by standard work clothes, you shouldn't have a problem at a majority of jobs.

i want to get a tattoo, but then since i want to become a teacher, i'm deciding against that, unless i get it in a place where it's not as visible? Is getting a tattoo really that detrimental to your chances of finding a job? As a teacher it's understandable that maybe a tattoo on the neck isn't the greatest idea, but then what about other jobs?

Yeah I'm never going to tattoo my face, neck, or hands. I want to be able to wear a suit with no tatts showing. Cause some occasions you just don't want to show them.

It all depends on what era of MGS foxhound you like.

If you like the era when Big Boss was in it. go with the Kojima Productions logo.

i'm thinking of getting a tattoo; i think i want it on my upper arm/shoulder, and i think i want a cool-looking-but-not-over-the-top praying mantis, but that's about all i know so far. thing is, i don't know where to begin finding a design. how does this usually work? i figure it's with me for a long ass time so it's worth it to find a real professional guy and let him do his thing, even if it costs a few more bills.

also, i'm kind of concerned about when to get it. i do a lot of mixed martial arts training and if i ever decide to take it seriously i'll probably have to put on some muscle. and, i still occasionally get pimples on my shoulder. would it be a good idea just to wait until my skin clears up and i get bigger?

If you're going to get something and you have no idea how you want it, it is best to browse pics on google to kind of get the idea. If you see something you like, print up a pic, take it to your artist, and ask him if it's possible to do. If you really wanna be daring, you could just give him your idea and tell him to go to town on it. As for the point at which you should get it, I don't think it really matters, unless you plan to increase your body mass dramatically over a short period of time.. If you have a good artist, it should be ok. I got my first when I was 14 and even though I've grown since then, it still looks decent. If it gets all fucked up, you can always have it touched up.

Half sleeve? Full sleeve? Color? It's a good design, but you'd need to add a lot to it to make it happen as a sleeve. I'd say fire and maybe some other tribal-ish stuff. I'd say if you could flesh it out a bit it'd work out great.

I was thinking half sleeve to begin because a full would mean wearing long sleeves most all the time at work(we're exposed to the elements, summer would be a pain). Color would be cool but probably not with that base design. But you're kind of in my head for the rest.....I was thinking flames beneath/to the sides and have the artist give suggestions for the area above. He's mad creative....I watched him do a buddy's whole shoulder/arm from just a little freehand and memory alone.

Use the vitamin A, D, or whatever for the first few days. It keeps your skin moist. You shouldn't worry about applying LOTION on it until a few days afterwards. And at that point, use Curel. I used it on my tats and it works pretty well.

Not alot of A&D. If you put too much your color will start to ooze out. Just a small amount to keep it moist, don't slather it on. After you put it on Wipe away any excess.

It's kinda too late for this already, but I guess for future reference:

-Do not, do not DO NOT put Vaseline on it. It will dry it out and it's a bitch to wash off. You don't want to be scrubbing at it either, because you'll end up with parts peeling off, blurry lines, and green where there once was black.

-An hour after you get it, wash it off in the shower. Once again, do NOT scrub, just lightly rinse and wipe, just to get all the blood and stuff off.

-Immediately apply Neosporin CREAM. Not that disgusting OINTMENT, but cream. Costs $6 a tube, but it helps a lot. Remember, your tattoo is a big fucking cut.

-Apply the cream 3-4 times a day for 3 days. After that move on to lotion. Don't use scented lotions, Victoria's Secret type or any other that your girl or your mom might have on hand. Those kinds have alcohol in them and will dry out your skin. I used Jergen's Ultra Healing.

-Take a light shower to rinse your tattoo off every day. This keeps it clean and prevents infection and stickiness.

-Don't peel it, pick at it, or scratch it while it's healing. It will be itchy as hell for at least a week and a half. A comforting thing to do is just rub it with a shirt on.

I got some more tats while I was in Japan. The artists there told me to put nothing on it at all. They've been healing well, and since I went back twice to get more ink done they were very impressed with how fast it was healing... I was too, since my first tattoo I put vitamin A and lotion on it afterwards and it took forever to heal. There is scabs that are coming off, of course, but nothing really affecting the color of the tats, which is good... pics to come later.

What's tbe general consensus on tattoos? I'm getting some on both of my arms and a few on my leg and MAYBE on my chest. Is there anything I should watch out for before or after getting them?

The one on your leg is going to hurt the most. especially if it's on your shin. I've got 4 and working on a design for a sleeve but the one on my shin had to have hurt the most.. i guess cause the skin is really thin down there, i don't know.

except for 1 all of mine I designed so i'm cool with it the one that i didn't design..

So i used to have a bad temper... okay i still have a bad temper at times. but an old friend of mine used to watch me flip out on people on occassion and he would always say wow. "You brought out the beast on that guy."

So one day i explained that I don't like to "bring out the monster" I really should work on keeping my self control and so on. So I did .. i got control and worked on keeping a cool head under bad circumstances.

Untill i lost it one day on this bitch at the movies.. and i mean a real truestory bitch. She was just rude to everyone and i let it slide at first until she said behind my back fuck that guy he aint shit. If you can imagine ... i felt like my stand had been called forth .. from like jojo's bizarre adventure..

I bet her ears are still ringing from all the shit i let out on her. but after i was done my friend said .. damn dude.. monster reborn!!

Basically i figured, not always, but sometimes you just gotta bring that monster out of the graveyard to handle shit on the feild you know.
