hahaha Dirty Balls is back...as a COP!
George to Mark? Woah.
Jaa makes Muay Thai look like a cool way to do humanitarian work. A must see and something to hold us in until Drunken Master 3 with Jackie Chan and him gets to the movies. Not to mention Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung's movie. Kinda makes you wonder where Jet Li is nowadays, does it not?

Yay and damn...gonna hit up mah importer to get ALL his classics now! I have his Once Upon A Time in China and Hero original DVDs. Decades of wholesome wire-fu violence is coming to an end, from his memorable The Shaolin Temple days to Unleashed... His last piece looks similar to his early 90s' work. Must be good.

TYG was one of the best action movies i have ever seen. It's unfortunate that the story was kinda weak, but who cares right? It's hard to find subs for it so far I've found, but it doesn't matter, since every time he speaks you can just pretend he's saying "Where's my elephant!?!?" and it works.
Now that he's got some crazy movies out, it's time he change roles i think. The country bumpkin with 4 lines is cool, but it would be nice to see him in different types of characters.
I expect him to go the Jackie route, and start making cop movies soon. ..and to also take the Jet route and feature as crazy bad-guy in some american films. :P

I liked how he was getting beatdown hard and stabbed for like a minute, then he proceeds to wipe the floor with everybody =D. The man loves his elephant.
1/3s of this movie was in thai, mandarin and english. Yet it is very easy to understand what was happening, so it is still very accessible
i like it better than ong bak btw

I would like to see him in one more movie of this type. A man on a quest with 2 unusual allies, one human, one not even close, to retrieve his kidnapped son from 3 unearthly warriors, and stop their leader, a man who can transform into a beast powered by a crimson star, from making a single wish that would have earth-shattering repercussions...if you get my drift. :badboy:

The stolen elephant plot worked much better than Ong Bak's, since you didn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that elephants were very important in Thai culture while it was difficult to see why Ong Bak was so important.
It's unfortunate that Lateef was injured while filming TYG, which is why he kinda just jumps off-screen in the middle of the fight instead of having a proper exit.

The movie also has Vietnamese, its where the hero meets Johnny for the third or 4th time and johnny say "what is he saying" and that all the viet in the movie.
Also for those who seen it, did anyone see Jackie chan? If you didnt, he was in the airport, where the hero bumps into him.

That's a look - alike, not the real Chan. I think it's been debated here before, if not check IMDB, they'll know / have proof.

I thought it was good. The length of the shots were the most impressive, and the fights scenes were done well, with the camera back so you can see the action; however, the editing throughtout the rest of the movie was absolutely terrible, way worse than I expected.

Yeah the stairway scene was amazing. Longest fight scene shot I can think of.
Also reminded me of game of death. If you check out the behind the scenes video, it shows a lot of how it was done.

Random note, Thai is a really ugly sounding language.
It sounds like everyone speaking it is falling down drunk. Note the scene where the old police officer is speaking to the Thai woman outside of the restaurant just before the elephant-nappers come out.

Was that actually done in one shot or edited together? I saw the behind the scenes ditty but it's all in thai.
I thought this was better then Ong Bak as well. Lots of shit I've never seen before. Love Tony's fighting style and that there's no comedy to lightin things up. The dude is brutal and that's how a badass should be!

geez i thought the elephant story was cheesy but whatever at least it serves as the reason for jaa to go around and kick ass. and that one scene where he took out like 20-30 guys all in joint breaking fashion was too good. overall loved the movie. i would want to get a dvd when it comes out here. i rate this about the same as ong-bak. both are really good movies.
the man just want his elephant back...
So how the hell do you steal an elephant, anyway?

......The same way you'd steal ANY large four-legged animal. It's surprisingly easy, provided they already have regular contact with humans.

The story was so segmented...
seriously.. i knew what the premise was but why did they throw in alot of nonsense.
for me the Action was everything.
*SPOILERS* yes your going to read it anyway.
the prostitute had hardly a part and she was cute and mostly dressed like a bum, The cop shit was almost pointless and could have done without them, Johnny just all of a sudden disappears after capping that White tranny lover guy.... the White Cop guy was somehow connected to the China Tranny and well it wasnt really as climactic as i thought it shoulda been. To many plot holes and too much nonesense....
BUT THE ACTION OWNS.... so fucking hard. he broke everybodys shit. it was great...

Pretty disappointing. Story started out well with the elephant protector / etc stuff but nosedived from there. The action was ok/decent, everything else was pretty crappy. Far too much WTF stuff (guy getting deep stabbed and not slowed down at all, just random stuff like ohh lets go back to the temple, how convenient a mean brazilian capoiera practioner burned it down and is there to fight, um ok, but no, it gets better, then an Austrailian kung fu dude with a sword busts in, and when hes done, a huge American wrestler comes out of nowhere... just stupid stuff like that.. or later how there are like 4 huge wrestlers that come out of nowhere... or the 50 security guys who come out of nowhere every scene, and yet do the standard movie fight one at a time stuff).. that would be all fine because its about the fighting right? Well some of that didn't feel all that authentic anyway. A little too stiff and scripted. Ong Bak was a lot better overall.

Yeah it looks like the fight shots were influenced by video games.
The fight with the gang on bikes resembled Final Fight and other beat em ups. The scene where he goes up the stairs (witht he camera continously rolling and filming without cuts) and beats up ppl until he meets the "boss" on the top reminds me of Kung-Fu Master/Spartan X. And the Capoeira scene reminds me of Tekken.
Great movie, really fun to watch.
