View Full Version : Under what conditions do you not accept challenges!!!

Okay its 6:19AM on EC and I am at work , so I just thought of making this new thread, since Hyperbomber asked me why I didn't accept his challenge yesterday. The thing is that me and hyperbomber have actually played offline, but I don't recognize his XBL tag which is Colt Steele(I think).
So the question is just what the title says:
Under what conditions do you not accept challenges?
Here are mine below:
1: If you are a known dropper.
2: If I've played you and you dropped on me before.
3: If its possible that I think that you may drop on me.
4: If your win record isn't between 50 - 100% out of your total game count. (<---Most of the time, there have been exceptions)
5: If your account is a fresh account (ie 0 out of 0 matches) or anything below 100 games usually.
6: If your a bitch who usually spits stupid shit into the mic when you play.
7: If I am waiting for another player.
Other than that, I accept any and all challenges.
Now, I know that some people are going to see this and prolly put me on blast, like saying,"who does this guy think he is?" But I am being honest and I don't think that anyone should get on me for that.
But anyway, I encourage you guys and girls to say what you feel. Please post your conditions and give feedback to others. I made this thread cause I was just curious to see if people thought like me or otherwise.

There's is no reason for me to say anything really. I agree with you "100%"!!!
Those rules are EXACTLY what I use to choose my challenges.
One thing that I do want to say is that I hate when people look at a win ratio and see that it is 50-100% while there's is more like 20-30% and they still challenge. Then when they get owned they decide to drop. Come on lets be serious what do you think was gonna happen? Lag would be on your side and carry you all the way to victory?

the only reason I won't accept challenges is if the person has actually dropped on me before. I will leave after one match if there's mega lag. I will leave after a couple matches if my opponent switches characters every round.
I will drop on character select screen if I'm already getting input delay or the opponent picks Gill...
edit: I dont really think win ratio is a valid way to decide who or who doesn't get to fight you... because it doesnt mean that much honestly. On my old live account (der liam) I had won like 40% of matches played and beat peeps with 70-90% matches won (and usually got dropped on afterwards).
I imported SF:AC from japan a couple months before its US release, as soon as it came stateside there were about a zillion fresh accounts flooding the match listings... if I wanted to sit on my ass all day back then and play noobs who don't understand the game I could've gotten a staggeringly high win ratio even though decent tournament-level players would still fuck my shit up.

When the game becomes a little long in the tooth, and the player online become few and far between, you'll be playing any and all of the 'players' in your list.

is the win/loose ratio really a good way to tell who drops?
i personally have never really been dropped on by a low ranking guy
and have been dropped on by almost every S or SS rank ive played
most of them have their good ratios due to the dropping...unless im totally mistaken ..but dropping doesent give you a loss or a round played right? (forgive me..still reasonably new to the live SF thing)

if the match ends (someone drops) before a winner is decided than both players get a loss on their record. however, a winner is instantly recorded once a player is KO'd. so a player could steal his opponent's win by dropping when he is on his last leg of life. it happens to me a lot when, for example, I stun someone and they know I have enough damage potential to finish them off in stun.
most drops are post-KO however, so you'll get your win anyway. the reason I write up post-KO droppers in BGs is not because I care about the win is so people know that playing that person is going to be a waste of time. it's not sportsmanlike, and I may have said this before but I see it as the online SF equivelant of flipping over a checkerboard when you lose. who wants to play a game with someone like that?

ahh thanks for explanation
ive won quite a few times and the drop RIGHT as the KO appears and i have not been credited with the win...doesent botherr me alot if its the first round...but i get pissed if the guy takes a win off me THEN robs me of mine..

Meh, I just don't accept challenges from people that I've had drop on me before *cough SIOAKS *cough. Other than that, I take on all challengers cause I don't consider myself an elite player, so I accept the challenges of anything from SS all the way to Q rank people. The way I look at it: they're just trying to get a match going and I know what that's all about. So if I start a game with a person new to the game that's still learning the ropes, I just take it easy. Just casual crap, certainly isn't nice to acept a person's challenge and then beat them into the dirt.

I agree. although i'd rather be playing someone with skill, i'll play the lower graded players. The way i see it, by the time i get a couple matches in with them, they'll hopefully have learned something (spamming SRKs on wakeup), and new ppl will have logged on. i'd rather play than wait in the lobby forever...

I decline challenges from
Known droppers
Known lag abusers
Known Gill users
Known assholes
Other than that, I'll give anyone at least a couple of matches, and hopefully get some feedback on here on how it went for them, and anything I needed to work on...

I don't get it. You all would rather sit in the lobby for an hour or more than play a known dropper? Are your records that important to you?
I play droppers all the time, if anything, to piss them off, especially if they have skill. Hell, I've dropped quite a few times myself, but people still want to play me, because they know it will be a good match, drop or not.
While you're sitting in the lobby, I'm playing and honing my skills to be better than you, even if I'm getting dropped on.

Thats exactly how I feel. There are some assholes online that are known droppers that I avoid since they care about their rank instead of getting better. I play anyone regardless of online stats. I dont take online too serious, i do get upset at times when I lose due to lag but its part of the online game. Besides online doesnt measure true skill, but it does give you variety in comp thus making you more aware to different styles of players. It really helps offline when someone tries a strategy vs you that you already experienced.

4: If your win record isn't between 50 - 100% out of your total game count. (<---Most of the time, there have been exceptions)
You know, when I used to play 3S, I'd never really hang around to play against someone I could beat quite easily but I'd always stick around when I was losing, so my win ratio ended up fairly lopsided (around 33%). Plus the higher the win ratio, the more wary I am of the player dropping. So win ratios are not really the best way to judge.
What's the harm in playing one game and seeing the skill levels from that?

I only refused to play with people that
lag too bad.
So plz don't feel offended.
Also if someone's too boring(and those are very few),i leave after
one or two games.

Yeah, this is true about the win ratio. Like I know eventually the amount of games that I've won will even out to exactly 50%. Then I will consider myself as the not so good playa, lol.
Anyways this thread is really getting good. It's good to know how you guys think. Another thing that I found funny though is the fact that the people that you deny matches from, they come back to try and play you again later. Also I see those same people posting on SRK, but I don't put them out there.

if that was partly aimed towards me, it was cause I enjoyed our matches. I was up for an hour or 2 playing shitty players and droppers then you joined my game and played a Patient solid Ken. I was having fun and you left the set tied 3-3 so being as competitive as I am I wanted to keep playing. Didn't mean to be an asshole or anything. I was simply enjoying our matches.

if i challenge someone, and they decline, i'll challenge them again right away. the reason for this is because they might've accidentally hit "no". if they refuse a second time, then i leave them alone, cuz they might be waiting for a friend, etc... so if you get challenged a couple times, and decline, don't lose your cool. i highly doubt the person is being annoying on purpose, they might just want to double check...

Oh no man, this isn't aimed towards you, the people that I am reffering to know who they are. I enjoyed our matches as well, but playing against a patient Urien in Lag is just a little difficult for me so I thought that I would just hit you back later man thats all. Also I just got off work as I work the night shift...7pm to 7am so I was just drained pretty much.
Either way man, I look forward to playing more with you in the future and that goes for all the folks on SRK aside from a select few  .

I would rather sit in the lobby for about 4 hours then play a known dropper cause that shit isn't fun. I mean I wouldn't literally do that, but wtf is the point if you already know how the game is going to end. I don't think that I am elite but I am pretty damn decent. Now my homeboy exodus is elite. i play anyone
when i reached around 130 ranking i only faced top top players even if my ass got used as a mop, i remember one time i faced the current number 1 i think i was rank 140 summit, we played for ages, he was using ken (and yun i think) i was using sean/yun/dudley/ryu/ken the score was like 70-8 LOL all were good matches
think now tho when im on form i can compete with the best because my time spent online werent spent on getting a good ranking it was on improving myself
by the time i reached 20's i really didnt care much about who i faced at all, i faced sum begginers 0-0 and gave them a free win with a lesson, i gave a few 100 ranking people a few free wins aswell, but i made it clear that i did, whoever i faced i made sure i played at their level with a short burst of mine
ill play anyone even droppers, i remember i got alot of droppers i just hunted them down LOL the funniest one was where he dropped, i hunted him down and when he threw me in a match he taunted then dropped lol
ivnever dropped on anyone, well one person i think he was spamming akuma's hurricane kick argh that was bloody annoying espeacialy when he taunted everytime he won a round LOL but after awhile i didnt mind spamming players because i just needed to practise parrying their moves
anyway yeah, i play/ed anyone that wanted a challenge.. well untill american begginers came and kept challenging me while complaining down the mic lol if you cant win and cant take it why challenge me? weird lol
loved the good american players tho it was interesting how they played a little bit diffrent to european players

If I play you one or two matches and there is really bad lag. I can take a freeze here and there, but when I freeze and when I sync back, I'm eating a combo or can't even block a sweep... I'm done after the match is over.
Now, after tonite, and cheap scrub as that picks Gill + lag tactics.... Instant Drop. I don't care, don't pick his ass.

One guy sat there and waited to see who I picked so I figured he'd counter pick Ken if I picked my usual Twelve so I picked my next character, Ken. I generally play anyone and everyone; Gill pickers, the lot. You're missing out on ~5% of the game if he never gets played :)
I understand peoples frustration with dodgy 'S' ranks. You figure something is up at the match screen, but give them the benefit of the doubt, only to be proven right when they turn out to be completely hopeless. They're obviously so concerned with winning that they're going to pull out every cheap trick in the book to scrape through.
You just signed up for 2 to 3 rounds of repeated Alex stomps, air fireballs or hurricane kicks. You spend these rounds all too aware that even if you win, you're going to see a little black message box where your big fat "K.O" should be.

So thats when I found you again when I got my stick and scraped you, but don't worry I'll never play you again cause I don't want to waste anymore time. Now don't get me wrong, I am really humble, but if you disrespect me then I got to say something.

WTF, who cares what grade you got on me, and who the fuck cares if I Lost. I know I am not the best, I never claim to be. I don't keep up with the grades that I get on people cause I am just trying to have fun. I have over 3000+ games on live now and I can honestly say that I don't remember 1 particular time where I was actually hyped about getting a good grade against someone. Thats how fucking lame your dumbass is, if you can remember the fucking grade that you got on me like over 2 months ago...wtf.
My custom stick has nothing to do with this, cause I didnt play you with it. I had the bear, remember dumbass.
Lmao, and as for being "bitchE" let's look at it this way. Who won more on the two separate ocassions that we played? Yep, that's right....I guess that makes you officially MY BITCH. See the problem is, if you would spend less time being a cocksucking, pussy ass, faggot who's always using his knee pads to bless the MIC for free then maybe you'd get more respect from people, but moving on
