Hey all

Ive recently began playing 2k2 and am interested in learning Vanessa. Since Ive never played a KoF before I dont know too much about the game and combo system, only the small tidbits Ive learnt in training mode. So you all need to get in here and help me learn this game with this character! I think I especially need advice on her pokes and what kind of spacing/ tactics to use with her :karate:

Here are the combos Ive found so far.

close SP ->+ LP(one hit) Paring Puncher xx Champion Puncher

close SP ->+ LP (one hit) Forbidden Eagle, Paring Puncher (corner)

close SP ->+ LP (one hit) Machine Gun Puncher

Charge <- -> SP, Paring Puncher xx Champion Puncher

close SP ->+ LP(one hit) Forbidden Eagle, Jab (Works as a reset, could this be useful?)

close SP ->+ LP(one hit) Crazy Puncher

That is about all I know so far. All my combos begin the same way! But I have the feeling that in the right hands this character could work very well. Please post anything you know on her!

Thanks

Vanessa is a beast. Toned down slightly from 2001 to the point where I didn't really play her all that much in 2002 but she's still got ridiculous combos and mix-ups. I'll whip out the old PS2 tonight and have a quick play around with her Kneel, see what I remember (if anything) then hopefully pass on the limited stuff I know. You got a US import copy or what?

wasn't that a friggin infinite she pulled off in the first match?

Thanks again for the link, that guy uses her pretty well. I dont know the game well enough to know if that was an infinite or not. Right as he starts the combo he loses 2 levels of super. He breaks stock, you can see the time bar appear, but he lost 2 bars?! Somebody needs to explain how this is done! Otherwise I'll be trying it probably to no avail for the rest of my days lol.

Hey Showbiz, I didnt know you played. Ive got a US copy, definitely going to pick up the official release in a few weeks. I want to make Vanessa my main character so post up all your knowledge so I can steal it all.

Ive learnt a few things from just this one vid tho. I was looking for a hit that can connect into her charge <- -> move which was good to find.

Bit pissed that Im gonna have to learn 2 others straight away tho. Im leaning towards Mature for the middle spot, but unsure on the last place.

Mature is my favorite KOF girl (well woman), but if you want to win, don't pick her. She does good chip damage and gives Yamazaki and other counter characters a hard time since her qcf+A/C doesn't count as a physical attack and can plow right through their (most mid/high) counters, but she has too many disadvantages for you to really consider her for your main team. Alot of her moves come out hella slow, and if they don't connect, literally all specials leave her wide open to be punished. The only one that is semi-safe is qcb+B/D, as its a little faster. Her projectile (qcf hcb + A/C) is kinda awkward and huge, unless your opponent has a ton of time to get a running start and has a ton of distance, most jumps wont clear it. Rolling through it is the only really safeoption. If they do attempt to jump it, just follow it up with f,d,fd+A or C and clip them. Its a good projectile, but again, it leaves you wide open if they see it coming. Huge recovery and startup.

If you're really confident with your first two characters, Mature can be a good character to put in the last slot to just peck away at the remaining characters with low health. But don't depend on her for huge damage.

Mature can be fun to screw around with, but be prepared to get stomped. Give Vice a shot, instead.

when u max(Rtrigger:wink:) during a combo it takes 2 instead of 1. that was an semi inf & can do 100% granted u have 5 stocks & i think it only works in the corner?

yeah she can keep doing it until her stocks runs dry.yaki has somthing like that too.

mature seems solid & has easy links but i think vice is better in 02.

omg i 4got about that easy ass 50% combo with billy!

It's not an infinite, it lasts as long as the time bar.

When you activate in the middle of a combo (i.e. cancel a normal into MAX mode) you spend two bars instead of one.

The combo I use goes like this:

C, f+A (1 hit) *activate* [C, f+A (1 hit), hcf+P, qcf+B] repeat brackets two more times, end with C, f+A, super.

Yup, what he said. I remember that Yashiro has a pretty ridiculous MAX mode combo too but damned if I know what it is without getting out the PS2.

Kneel, sorry dude, haven't had time to try anything out yet! To be honest, I was half expecting someone else to post by now. If no-one has contributed anything by Friday, I'll try and help you out but Vanessa 2K1 is my forte, I don't know enough about her MAX mode combos in this. I'm surprised you haven't used Kim in this - it is you who sometimes uses Kim in CvS2 right?

I'll definitely be getting this on release, not too hopeful my connection combined with 2002's lame netcode is going to make for a great online experience but I'll give it a whirl anyway. Hopefully my scrubby Clark/Leona/Choi skills are still there :karate:

MasterDragon, sure man, that sounds like fun. We had some cool games on 3S while I was playing. I cleaned up my friendslist when I stopped playing 3rd, but I'll send you a request for sure when this game hits the stores. Dont expect anything decent from me, my friends wont touch this game with a 60ft pole for some reason. So Ive got no-one to play against. Still, atleast they play some CVS2 with me.

RaijinKen thanks for dropping the info. Will take a bit of practicing, still not really used to the faster speed of this game. Atleast I'll have something to aim for while Im getting my ass kicked.

Mikee Im looking forward to playing ya on this. I'll be pirating all your tactics no doubt! My Kim on CVS isnt anything beyond random cancels to super from conquest kicks and crossup attempts. Never really tried to learn him properly since I mostly use K groove. I'll give him a try tho, still looking for 1 more character.

Taygeta thanks a lot for the info on Mature. I play a little Vice on CVS and havent tried her out in this as yet. I dont like the sound of huge recovery on Matures specials. I guess I should set dummy to block all and test some things out since I dont have any comp until the UK release. I dont think I could put her in last place unless I get a lot better with her, last place is serious business!

IMO in 2K Vanessa was at her best.......She was O.K. in 2K1 and 2K2 I'll pass on her.

She was still pretty powerful enough in 2K1 though - easy wire attacks, easy combos. That A-Cho video was interesting, I always thought she struggled against ABC in 2K2.

you sir dont know what you speak of, mature is quite good, exept takes the right hands, and so is Vanessa i highly recommend mature and dont listen to this fool. Mature is a good pressure character.

good mature combos.

jump-in :snkb: ,land crounching :snka: ,:snkb: then :qcf: x2+:p:

she has a good anti air which is crouching C (she slashes upwards)
Jump-in :snkd: or :snkc: , land :snkb: (2hit) :qcb: +:p: (x3)
jump-in :snkd: or :snkc: ,land :snkd: (2 Hit) :qcb: ,:hcf: +:k: (1 stock)

if ya want more mature help just ask.

Lets see Vannessa combos (looks like infinite and can be if ya want)
(requires atleast 2 stocks)
JuMp in :snkd: ,land :snkc: (2 hit):r: +:snka: (1Hit)CANCEL into MAX, WALK :r: then :snkc: (2 Hit) then :qcf: +:snka: very inportant cancel after 2 Hits into :qcf: +:snkb: (this moves makes you dash forward) the repeat :snkc: (2hit) :qcf: +:snka: (2 Hit) into :qcf: +:snkb: repeat like 4 or 5 times

now there here are some ways to finish this combo
depending on the situation and your super stocks do the following

IF your almost dead or can do HSDM(Hiddem super desperation move)
then the last part would be: :r: + :snka: (1 hit) into HSDM wich is :hcb: ,:r: +:snkc: i believe
or into any super for that matter ill let you choose

IF you want to turn this into infinite, its possible cause when your doing the combo your bar is raising again and can Do a MAX mode again and repeat the whole thing and keep the combo going, to do so when your FIRST MAX mode is about to END do
:r: +:snka: (1 hit) into MAX mode again to start all over again:clap:

hope this is not too confusing

Edit: i tried adding pics to see if ya guys can get a better idea:karate:
