I don't understand World of Warcraft.

I don't really like computer games in general, not much of an RPG'er, and certainly not an MMORPG'er either. But even if I was...it just seems like that game consumes so many lives. I have a friend now who, we'll go out with but then he'll be like "Oh shit, I gotta get back" because his party's going on a raid or something.

I mean, I like games and all too but never would I let it interfear with my life in the real world.

I'm no fan of MMOs, there's just too much sitting and waiting and overall tons of boring. I kept hearing how good WoW is and i've been looking for a good game, so I bought it just to check it out and I fell in love with it. The thing about the game is anyone can play it and do good in it, and there is almost no down time when you're fighting, the main flaw of mmos imo is sitting for 3min after fighting a mob for 30 seconds then dying and losing exp you earned. That's a lot of time wasted. That's why WOW has such a diverse player base, it's got people from soccer moms, kids, the elderly, all types of people play it. It's so good that people who aren't even into these types of games wiho try it will get hooked. You can also be productive by just playing 20 min. a day compared to spending 3 hours min. to actually progress in other mmos which is why I think there's a very large casual gaming audience for wow.

short version: In wow you can get to the level 60 cap in about 2 weeks in seperate sittings (average for an experienced wow player who knows what he's doing in one sitting is about 6-10 days PLAYED TIME) assuming you take a long break from the outside world, that means more level 60 40 man raids to get 1337 gear on. Az, you don't really seem interested in the game but don't ever try playing it. It has converted non-believers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I mean, paying for a game one time is fine. But damn...like fifteen bucks a month? We don't all get video game allowances from our parents still - that's SERIOUS money!

It's 50 cents a day... Or at most, two hours of work for a month of play.
Instead of playing WoW, you can buy about 3-4 more $50 games a year. Think about it from that perspective.

However, I don't get sucked into the endgame raiding thing where it absorbs my life. In fact, I think endgame in WoW sucks...

After running Beast Machines twice, the Cartoon Network here is going to play the original Transformers series starting from tonight. So I was all geared up to watch tonight, when suddenly it comes on and I realize - it's all in Japanese. And for whatever reason, they haven't included the original English audio tracks. ...Sigh.

I just listened to the Japanese version of the TF opening theme. My God, it's so bad. It's just...horrible. :sad:

Why? unless you've somehow deluded yourself into thinking you're getting more for your money it doesn't make sense. Are you suddenly getting more gaming time out of having four different games instead of one? It's not like you're magically going to increase your playtime. In addition, how many games do you know of that have years worth of replay value?

MMORPGs suck because you have to pay to play them. If I didn't have to buy a physical copy of the software, then pay $15 monthly to be able to use that software, I might be able to justify it for a few months at least.

PSO had the best system. Full version offline play if you didn't want to pay, and free online play. Then they started charging-- but the Online content simply wasn't worth it. MMOs should have offline content too, and charge no more than $5 a month. I'd be all over that.

But, the problem then becomes cheating.

Plenty...and you don't have to continue to pay for them. Unreal, Starcraft, WC3, and CS all come to mind. Been out for YEARS and are still populated. Not to mention they all get new content daily....for free.

Hmm, that's not really true atleast for the year that I played (I think 99). It was patched fairly frequently, about once every 2 weeks iirc, and the patches were HUGE. I played it semi-competitively and every patch seemed designed to take away the strats a lot of us were using heavily. Obviously this was done because of balance concerns, but nontheless, I think that is a considerable change. I suppose it depends on what you consider change, so feel free to define it.

I think WoW is probably worth the money however. I don't personally play it, but lots of people absolutely love it. I agree that it's definitely worth paying $15 or whatever it is a month to get a great gaming experience each month as opposed to just paying $50 to play a game for a few weeks and never touch it again. You're essentially buying a new game each time. I guess the kids on this site don't get it, but back when arcades were around we'd pump a quarter or two into a machine for EACH PLAY and not mind it, even when you could get those games on consoles. You pay for the experience and the environment I guess. WoW, and other MMORPGs, obviously have that advantage over single player console games.

He said updated with new content. I don't recall the patches doing much of that when I played (98). that's what i was referring to. Also, I think Broodwar came out in 4th quarter of 98 first quarter of 99. I'm too lazy to google it.

I was going to bring up the arcade point, but I decided against it. I remember times when I would spend $20-30 at once in the arcade so $15 a month doesn't seem like a big deal.

By updated daily, I was also including modded content(something do-able in MMO, but not to the same extent). Starcraft and WC3 still both get official patches also. On WoW, your really paying for server space... and new instances or territory...but then agian, that stuff comes months at a time in comparison. Theres a new map or character model everyday for SC/WC/UT/CS.

Explaining how SC is different since its release is a new thread in itself.

But, the problem then becomes cheating.so many good memories there. I've never been addicted to a game in the same way I was addicted to PSO. (nearly 500 hours on ONE CHARACTER, folks. I had 12 characters total, plus 2 others on the Dreamcast era. Beat that.) I had the gameplay mechanics and everything about it down to a perfected science. But yeah...PSO had this thing done correctly...well, for the most part. I didn't like how Sega basically didn't give a shit about cheating or anything that went on on the servers.(e.g.--I was on a server, mass duping one day for a long time....there were never any mods or other "police" type of figures online to see what I was doing and ban me. It was a regular thing to see a server actually named "DUPES4EVERYONE!")...and I didn't like how there was little in the way of online content. This wasn't really that noticeable though, because the game itself was so damn addicting.

At first I was opposed to the concept of paying constantly...but over time, I just stopped caring that much. I realized that there's really no hope against it...this is how online gaming will be....not free. in most cases. It also helped that the GC/Xbox era PSO was just 9 bucks a month. 15 and up I would definitely have a problem...but 9 or 10 bucks is "not so bad", imo.

However, the Xbox PSO online fee was stupid, simply because Xbox users already have to pay for Live. It makes no sense, imo...to pay for Live, and THEN have to pay an extra online fee for the game itself. Live is supposed to cover the online gaming...at least that's what I thought. This is like paying for cable tv...and then you pay an additional fee directly to individual networks/channels like HBO. That makes no fucking sense, and it's a ripoff, imo....and nobody should stand for it.

dammit PSU needs to come on out...I need that game. I feel that old addiction starting to flare up again just by talking about this. A relapse is guaranteed to happen since PSU will be here soon.

Ok, I do understand how you could pay for it, if I found the concept appealing I would probably pay too. But I'm just saying, $15 a month is excessive. Especially since other popular MMOs offer free online play, such as Guild Wars. Now, I'm not going to compare them, as I've never even played Guild Wars, but I'm pretty sure the company behind Guild Wars isn't going bankrupt anytime soon due to not charging a monthly fee.

And also, you're wrong about that I won't get that much play time out of another game. That totally depends on the person. I bought Warcraft 3 Battle Chest, which comes with the original game, the expansion, and some guide booklets (which I never even used, but whatever) for about $30 brand new. And I play that game all the time and it has probably provided me with more playtime than any other game.

New content? Custom games created by other players, that comes out every day and you don't have to pay an extra cent.

All you get for $15 is the CAPABILITY to play WoW for an entire month. But you don't get the TIME to play WoW in those $15 bucks.

I'm working full time now in the summer, so honestly, I admit you're right about the total sum of money not being a huge factor.

But what am I paying for? I have like three hours of free time a night and the weekends. I can't possibly imagine fitting in fifteen dollars worth of WoW into those slots. And I will be damned if I let a game once again take over my life so completely that I'd choose to stay in during the weekends rather than go out.

$15 spread over an entire month is not much, I'll give you that. Fifty cents a day, so like two cents an hour - that's absolutely nothing right?

But you (or at least an average, sane person) are not playing 24 hours a day, 30 days a month.

Now that's just retarded. If you don't have the time to play games, why are you buying them in the first place? I hope you're not one of the people that was justifying the high price of the PS3, because with your play schedule it would take you something like 20 years to make the investment back. How is $15 worse than $50 for a new game? It's not like you have to pay the money every month, just when you think you'll actually be playing it. It's doubtful that you're dragging a game out over a year when you pay $50 with that schedule in order to feel you made a good purchase. You won't get much of an experience like that, and you'll also probably want something newer after a month or so anyway.

It's not $15 being worse than $50 for a new game. It's $50 for a new game that keeps kicking your ass for fifteen bucks worth of lunch money every month after you buy it...versus $50 for a new game...period.

Well, you see, I understand exactly what you mean, and I thought the exact same thing for like a year... and then I tried the game and didn't care, because it was so god damned fun. :lol:

I see it from your perspective, though I think a pay-as-you-play would be overpriced anyway. 50 cents a day, whether I play it or not, is worth the amount of fun I derive from the game. Bottom line. I respect the wishes of Blizzard to make some money while still affording to keep up enough servers for 6 million people to play. Granted, I'd be much, much happier with a $10 fee, but what can you do?

man, i was telling my gf about the situation and she was real rude. she even hung up on me. needless to say, she is canceled.

he was talking to her in bed and she slumped over and yeah...both of their kids were in the house too. her son is 11 and her daughter is 17 (my cousins...calling them her son/her daughter sounds funny like we're detached from them or something).
she had just beaten cancer too. she was a very nice person and i have really good memories of her. she'll definitely be missed. she was 39.

Philosophy beyond the basic shit...there are right and wrong answers. Such as Logic.

Logic is like statement math. You can make plenty of incorrect statements right? Well if you make an incorrect statement from a logic perspective it is flat out wrong. There are right and wrong answers in the logic/ethics realm of philosophy...which is pretty damn big.

I resigned from my job today.

I was having a particularly bad day and with my school schedule I wouldn't be able to work there worth a darn...especially if I get onto the school paper (no reason I shouldn't).

I worked 6 days a week. I've only called out 3 times in a year. I've only recieved one complaint in a year and I consistently have had extraordinary quality reports. I contribute, I'm professional, I take on extra work when others slack off (b/c someone HAS to, believe me has to). Yet, I have never been recognized for anything.

Others have recieved half days off, or been able to go home early on fridays, or gotten company gifts. I felt like "what the fuck am I doing all this for?" That I had gone off on her and my IBM manager and that she was about to escort me out of the building. That she thinks I'm on drugs.

Her phone rang within seconds and sister laughed that she didn't believe her at all.

Then my manager says, "This really funny, but it's not a joke."

Southern U.S. sound = either stupidity, or down home friendly qualities, i.e. "southern hospitality". Fortunately for me, I have no southern accent despite being a southerner. Northern U.S. = eh, either stupid or funny...or italian mobster stereotype(the only villain they match up with).....or "jew"....yeah, that's what it means to me. *Jersey in particular = wonderfully trashy white girls that are usually drunk, and random comedians. Midwestern US = just plain WEIRD. You should know your dialect sounds strange if EVERY other regional group in this country tends to think this way; "heh, you people sound funny." I haven't had doughnuts in a long time...Krispy Kreme is my main deal there. Just the smell of a typical Krispy Kreme can induce a taste bud orgasm. It's hard to pass by one of those places without going in to get a cruller or a glazed....

-In other food news; I had a nice snack for free today, all thanks to Kroger. It was the Yuppie Edition Kroger of course...they wouldn't do this in a "Black Kroger"...or a "Poor White Folk Kroger" either. They had a stand set up to try a certain sirloin steak, along with potatoes and asparagus. So, a strip of steak, potato wedge, and 1 "stalk" of asparagus....and then some sweet tea from another free "try this!" stand.

-So, I was on the hunt again today. I saw some hot ones at Target as usual....surpsingly there was no real booty skirts...a few, but nothing *convenient* if ya catch what I'm saying. I can see some of you guys now...posting from the fresh commodity of your homes, nested nice and tuck in your cozy rooms, knowing what you will do and what you're gonna eat tomorrow. I'm sure some of you might also be saying "Fuck my parents, I could do very well on my own without their bitching!".

Well, it doesn't get any harder when the time comes to put your money where your mouth is.

I've lived in Mexico for the last 18 years.... I've always been surrounded by the warmth of my family and many different friends. After I graduated from college, I was determined on one thing alone: to engage in my own path back where my whole life started - the United States. I mean, it was basically common sense: I was born in Chicago, so why was I wasting my time in a poor-ass country where I could only grow so far? I had to go where the big bucks where, and unlike all those immigrants you see, I could do so without looking over my shoulder for the government breathing behind my neck.

I had planned my trip ever since I quit my first post-graduation job at a call center, determined to make it in my own country. You would think very highly of yourself if you had a college degree and dominated 2 languages too, especially when your second language happens to cover up the biggest minority in the US (Spanish). I really thought I could make it....

But somewhere along the way, things have gone awry.

First off, don't get me wrong. Georgia is a beautiful state, with nice landscapes and usually nice people. But somehow...it doesn't feel like home. Or maybe it's my current situation which sucks: employed by an agency that deals with foreign students and gives them internships in hotels. I thought I could easily land a job with the agency, get to know the area better, and then make the usual transistion from the small fry job to the bigger leagues. After all, they would provide me with a place to stay, so what could go wrong?

Well, first off, I usually never stay put. The agency has a deal with some hotels around the area, so basically they send their people to work in said hotels in different positions. It sounds cool...until you see that your employment agent is Hindu (as in from India) as well as all the owners of said hotels, which obviously creates a huge mafia where I feel nothing more than a tool. And since your contract is with the agency itself and NOT the hotels themselves, they can easily dismiss you when your services are no longer needed since you don't even belong in their payroll.

Having said that, I'm now in my fourth hotel in just 2 months, which is located in Gainesville, a small town just 30 minutes away from metro Atlanta, stranded without a car or accessible transportation to the main Atlanta area. So right now I'm stuck in the hotel where I work at, only being able to walk around the nearby areas, which is quite limited.

Not only that, but due to my constant moving to different hotels and all, my employer agent can't get his hours straight of how much I worked, and my paychecks have been coming in few and far between. Right now is the third time in 2 months in which I don't have any money left, and I'm feeling extremely frustrated not only because my agent is a complete turd who seems too dumb to determine when my next paycheck is due (and thus, hurting my pocket in the long run), but the jobs I have been assigned to are so dull and boring that I feel like I cannot go past a certain limit of growth.

Here I am...a person with a college degree and bilingual....who wanted to eat up the world by the mouthful, now stranded in a shody town, with a shitty job, by his lonesome, with no money and limited movement.

Sure, I could probably look for a better job and shit, but then again, how can I modify my resume when I keep being passed on like some object all over the place and no solid residence? That's just unreliable, although I HAVE been sending resumes out like crazy expecting a viable e-mail response that may shed some light on this uncertain darkness.

Before this trip, I was never an emotional kind of guy. I was always the kind of guy who would keep a serious face through and throughout, and never lets things get to him. And so it turns out that I have cried more in 2 months than I have done in the last 26 years. It's THAT tough.

So the next time you have it rough and bitch about everybody conspiring against you, think a little bit about this example and thank yourself for being so lucky. It sucks to go to sleep without knowing what's gonna happen with you tomorrow or what the hell you're gonna eat.

I tried watching a few more episodes of Japanese Transformers, and I just can't do it. It's so disappointing. The Japanese version is just...it's crap. Starscream is no longer a whiny bitch. He's not even a bitch really. (You know, Chris Latta really made this character). Soundwave sounds like he's mentally slow. They tried to keep the synthesizer effect (it isn't nearly as cool as the original). Soundwave usually talked in simple sentences ("Ravage, eject! Operation: Search and Destroy"), and it just didn't translate into Japanese well. The only voice even remotely close to the original is Thundercracker...but who the fuck cares about him?

And the Japanese added a narrator for no reason at all. "And so, the Destrons broke into the energy plant and started to steal Energon to power their Space Bridge." ...Yeah, we can fuckin' see that you moron.

...Sigh. I feel like one of my favorite things in the world has just been pissed all over. By the Japanese no less.

imo, transformers G1 had the best voice cast of all time .....
Even though there were animation mistakes, corny plots, the music and voices made that show.
Playin gG1 Tf for a blind man would prolly be considered a civic deed.
BTAS: is closely tied, but the acting there is more subdued , yet dramatic. TF had alarge cast of 67 or so actors, special voice fx(ie soundwave/astrotrain/insectcons), and great score for a "mere" toy show..

To me, Fei was lame because he was yet another damn Bruce Lee character. This became a tiresome thing QUICKLY for me....it was so annoying that every fighting game had to have a Bruce Lee...it was like the law of the genre. I know Bruce was The Shit™ in reality, but I got tired of seeing him on every roster of every fighting game at the time. Part of it could also be the fact that I am more interested in fantasy characters and settings....for example, characters like Gill, Twelve, Dural, Scorpion, etc. are far more interesting to me than people like a Bruce Lee clone, or Stryker in MK3, Johnny Cage, etc. "Real People" style characters tend to be very boring to me...just as a realistic sports game is something I'll avoid at all cost...and I'd enjoy something like NBA Jam instead.

A co-worker took a claim recently...for a guy named JIHAD. This was his actual first name. Isn't that like a "regular american"(as good ol' Archie Bunker would say) being named just "War"? It just struck me as strange and funny.

I just get annoyed by peoples presence badly. Even if nothing has happened and everything is good....thats why I can't do the whole roommate thing. I saw Superman Returns last night. It was pretty good I guess. I mean, it wasn't like they got anything wrong, but they didn't do enough right make me go 'Wow!'.

The lead was an excellent cast for Clark Kent, and an okay cast for Supes.

There wasn't much 'Superman, have a cool fight scene!' but there was a lot of 'Fly around majestically while the wind whispers softly at your passage, ye pseudo-Jesus in spandex!'

Batman Begins was infi better, I'm probably gonna go watch that again.

Japanese dramas, when done right, are excellent. Yes, that's true.

But those excellent dramas are few and far between. You usually have to wait a while and put up with a lot of crap before a winner appears. Densha Otoko was really the last good one they've had, since then there hasn't been really anything worth watching.

I'd recommend some awesome ones, but I don't think they're available for download at all, much less with subs.

I work for the state, taking unemployment claims. It's depressing to even be there...it's like my daily shame of career failure. I'm a guy with an MFA degree....and I take fuckin unemployment claims for a living. Even if I did get something in the mail about a high school reunion, there's no way in hell I would go back while I'm doing this. You only really go to things like that when you've actually acheived some form of success in life. This is nowhere near that. This is a paycheck that barely* gets me by for now. (*TN unemployment claims-takers/interviewers are the lowest paid in the goddamn country. Nice one, Tennessee. Way to go.)

today was another 11 hours...so with tomorrow this will be 10.5 hours over the regular time for this week, which should make my paycheck look nice(relatively speaking) once again....I'm off Thursday and Friday to chill out at home for a nice 4 day weekend.

I had a dream the other day. I was going to the library to do some homework (I was still in school) and my dad was telling me to be careful and take a jacket (cuz it was cold outside). As he's talking, I see some guy walking up the sidewalk in my direction, yet I think nothing of it. We finally stop talking, he gets the mail, and goes back inside. I turn around and don't see the guy anymore...? I turn some more and see a gun shoved in my face. WTF. He had this really angry expression on his face and I didn't even have to ask what he wanted. I already knew he wanted the key in my pocket so he could rob my house or whatever. I didn't feel like giving it to him and considered slapping the gun away and trying to wrestle it away from him. But this isn't a movie so I scrap that idea. As I pull the keys outta my pocket, his expression sorta relaxes. I drop the keys to stall for time and he frowns back up again. I woke up before I got killed. It scared the hell outta me. For me to slap that gun outta his hand I'd have to be feeling really angry or really lucky and at the time I wasn't.

I had a dream last night that I was in some odd school being pursued by this weird alien thing. It was like the T-whatever out of Terminator 3 and was able to copy the appearance of anyone it saw. I saw, from some movie-like perspective, this thing kill a cop and a janitor. With the cop, it stood naked in the girls locker room to draw attention. The cop told her to put some clothes on (instead of trying to fuck her like you thought he would :bluu:) and she just kinda stood there blankly. There was one area (God knows why) in which children frolicked and pointed at the crazy man jumping headfirst out of a window dozens of feet above the ground. For some reason I have cat-like reflexes and balance and manange to climb, jump and crawl my way back to the front of the school. I, again meet up with what might be the T-whatever thingy. She seems to be impersonating another person improperly because the color of her eyes is brown and not hazel, as they should be. I ask someone and they tell me that the "guy's" should be hazel, and not brown. Again, I wake up before I'm killed.

Fuck their rights. Yeah I'm a damn hypocrite. I'm tired of the shit. It's not fair that I'm now having to lose sleep over this shit. I'm pretty sure you're talking about Alek Wek. Yeah, it is an undeniable fact that she is quite ugly. "Inner Beauty" has shit to do with what's going on outside...the physical. She could be the coolest, most down to earth person ever...but that unfortunately does not change the fact that she's just ugly. This isn't just a "white american media has brainwashed us" thing either. I dare anyone to bring up any physical point where she is even mildly attractive. The best thing you could say is that she's at least not a fat ass pig of a woman, like Camryn Manheim or pre-stomach-staple Star Jones. Then again...I'm not so sure which is worse with the extremes; a really fat woman...or a woman who is far too thin. Eh, I'm leaning towards the super-thin broads as being "less terrible". At least they can just eat and gain some pounds....it would take the obese woman much more to become a reasonable shape.

if anyone hasn't heard of her before...yeah, just google that name Alek Wek. It's probably not good to check out her pictures if you just had something to eat recently. One thing that fascinates me...is the level of creepiness about her whole look. She's not just ugly...she's also a rather disturbing visual. Alek seems like something from The Shining...or even worse perhaps...something from Clive Barker's imagination. I imagine the average small child would run away immediately when seeing her....they'd run away in tears.
