Hi SRK community! My name is Ben Ruiz and I'm the lead designer and artist on an upcoming game called Aztez. It's being independently developed by myself and one other dev. We're about a year in and we're aiming for an early 2014 release on PC/Mac/Linux, and maybe a console or two if we play our cards right. We're far enough along that we have playable builds that do a decent job of representing the game, and it would be nice to start collecting feedback from skilled gamers such as yourselves.<br />

The problem is, I cannot fucking find beat 'em up communities online! I just can't do it. Since fighting games have a non-trivial amount of overlap with beat 'em ups, I figured I'd try my luck and see if you magnificent lunatics would like you to break it apart and tell me what you like and don't like. I'm trying very genuinely to create something great here, and that can't be done without solid player feedback. Anyway, check out this video we recently released:<br />

Members in any of the three guilds can participate in all guild events.<br />

<b><span>Guild Rules</span></b><br />
1) Everyone starts out junior status with guild buffs. I prefer no more than two characters for new members if both active.<br />
2) No cheating/scamming/hacking/racism/harassment/impersonation, no turbo/auto fire, no gold buying (not allowed: $ for gold, gold for $, NX for gold, gold for NX), etc. Avoid words like "rape." No trade spam in /g, /g is not trade channel. Exception for events swap items (ie: fmage hat for mmage hat).<br />
Don't abuse guild help, don't abuse guild safe. We can help you with awaken mats and runs and other dungeons, but we will not provide mats and carry you through relic for personal farming. Senior members encouraged to help, officers required to help (unless other higher priority tasks assigned).<br />
3) Display mods that give you an unfair advantage over another player are banned.<br />
4) Our guild level for SRK is maxed (17) and this isn't a token farm guild.<br />
5) The SRK guild has a 14 day inactivity policy for users with no memo and 21 days for users with a memo.<br />
SRKPvP and ElderGOD guilds currently don't kick for inactivity.<br />

      <description><![CDATA[<span><span>While playing Breaker's Revenge it&nbsp;occurred&nbsp;to me that having a really easy fighter to get into may be a bridge between casual and hardcore players. Breaker's Revenge is very easy to get into BUT it doesn't cater to bad players with input shortcuts or comeback mechanics. No Xfactor, no Ultras, no easy Reversals, no FADC to safety, and no Pandora. There are Guard Cancels/Reversals (I.E. Breakering) but it takes some significant skill to pull off and you can be easily baited.&nbsp;</span></span><div><span><span><br /></span></span></div><div><span><span>But if the game is super easy to get into, is it a positive or negative thing if all that's left is the meta game?&nbsp;</span></span></div><div><span><span><br /></span></span></div><div><span><span>Final thought: Breaker's Revenge should be the game Capcom/Dimps/Niitsuma should copy if they want to bring more casuals into their games.&nbsp;</span></span></div>]]></description>

<b>2D Artist:</b> Carlos Enrique is a professional illustrator with a vast portfolio of work and numerous clients worldwide. He specializes in heroic fantasy illustrations, comics and educational illustration for school textbooks. He was a long-standing active member of the staff of Illustrators for the trading card game "Myths and Legends", Salo S.A. company.<br />

<b>2D Animator:</b> Ben Halstead is the Lead Animator for Beast's Fury. He is a traditionally-trained animator with 4 years of experience working both as a freelancer and in various studios. His projects range from online 3D game environments to hand-drawn feature films. He is currently based in the greater LA area.<br />

<b>Programming:</b> Marco Arsenault aka Evil-Dog is the programmer.  He has worked at Ubisoft Montreal for 5 years as a gameplay/AI programmer on Rainbow Six Vegas, Farcry 2 and Avatar: The Game.  Since 2004, he has been making indie games such as the award winning "Road of the Dead" as well as the somewhat popular music game series, "Punk-o-matic".  He has been running his own company, Evil-Dog Productions, for over 2 years.<br />

<b>Music / SFX:</b> Zach Striefel is the Lead Sound Designer at Symphony of Specters. He has worked on projects with many notable companies such as Disney, Coca-Cola, Adult Swim, GSN, WB, NBC Global, as well as many Indie studios<br />

<b>Voice Actor / Writer / Editor:</b> Poesy Rosewood is the writer for Beasts fury. She has done work as a ghost writer while working on several independent stories. Poesy has been an active member in developing the story, character designs, and concepts; including providing the voice for Odette.<br />

<b>Creative Design Lead:</b> Andrew Fein (Known Professionally as 40%FlashKick) breathes life into the characters and designs how they function within the game, and how the character balancing works. He's been playing professionally since 2009, and has since supported the FGC ever since. His fields of expertise is with dynamic combat systems.<br />

<b>Voice director:</b> Danielle McRae is a voice actress residing in Los Angeles, California. Some of her most notable credits have been in League of Legends as Karma the Enlightened One, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm as Hagara the Stormbinder, Dragon Nest as Sidel, SkullGirls as Painwheel a New Conglomerate Solider in Planetside 2, Jada in Battle High 2, and most recently, you can hear her in the video game "Starcraft Universe: Chronicles of Fate: as the Adjutent and Captain Arley Sims!<br />

The combo system will have a series of linked normal attacks that can end with a special move, sweeping attack, super move, launcher move or ultimate finish (Beast's Fury's version of Ultra Combos). Players can also perform air-attack / juggle combos that can end with a special move/ultimate finish. Juggling limits are also set individually for each character to keep them balanced and avoid over-powering.<br />
<br />
Players will have a series of attacks to choose from to make their combos. Everything from Crumples (moves that force opponents to stagger to their knees), to Wall and Ground bounces. Using a mixture of the Linked Combos (Normal moves that are strung together with the right timing) The special moves (Unique to the character) and the Juggle Combos (Moves that are strung together in the air), the player will try to lower the opponent's life bar to zero the fastest. Or, in some cases, lower it enough that they can sit easy on a life lead.<br />

      <description><![CDATA[I did a small research today and checked how many projectiles does it take to kill an average character in various fighting games.<br />

HDR- 10/11/12<br />
Both Ryu (blue fireball) and Ken vs Ryu. Number seems to be dependent on the type of fireball used with the HP fireball killing faster than MP, which kills faster than LP.<br />
<br />
SF4AE2012- 16/18<br />
16 for Ryu, 18 for Ken. Both were against Ryu. Doesn't matter which button you do the fireball with.<br />

SFXT- 15/16<br />
15 for Ryu, 16 for Ken vs Ryu. But remember that this is just one lifebar! Again, button doesn't matter.<br />

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core- 13/15<br />

Melty Blood AACC- 13<br />
Checked Aoko's various fireballs (236A for all moons + 214A for H) against F Aoko and all did the same damage.<br />

Checked some Arcana projectiles against Love Weiss. The Lang Gong fireball killed in 11 hits, Love laser killed in 13 IIRC, and the Wind boomerang killed in 18.<br />

TL;DR: Projectiles in airdashers are not that far from good old SF2 in terms of damage, way closer than modern Capcom's take on SF.<br />

I won't measure chip damage because in airdashers the guard bar plays a big role and basically takes the spotlight from chip damage.]]></description>

<span><span>This isnt entirely true, I am the project lead and will be handling a majority of the work, but I will be contracting several key pieces of the project. I will be contracting the design of the interface and menus out to another designer as well as the music of the game. These contracts are factored into the contribution goal.</span></span><br />

<span><span>What I dont want is to talk people into working on this game for free. I've worked on many projects where this was the case and not only is it a disservice to the talent these guys have, it also puts a lot of pressure on the project to generate a lot of money just to cover backpay. <span><span>I feel I've been able to scope this project so that it is manageable with my personal skillset, and I will be able to deliver an engaging, well built game on time based on the project budget. <span><span>$18000 is the number I determined would be a realistic project budget for the timeline and quality I am looking to achieve. Let me break it down a bit:</span></span><br />

<span><span>Indiegogo 4% cut - $720 (if I raise the full amount, if not $1620)</span></span><br />

<span><span>Contributor Perk costs - $1500 </span></span><br />
<br />
<span><span>Monthly Development costs for 8 month dev cycle - $1400 ($11200 total)</span></span><br />

<span><span>Pay for Contract work - $5000</span></span><br />

<span><span>These are rounded numbers and dont necessarily take into account the odds and ends fees that tend to come up. I feel it is a reasonable budget for a project of this size. <span><span>The Indiegogo flexible funding system works a little different than Kickstarter in that if the project goal isnt reached by the deadline the project will still receive the money raised.</span></span><br />

It is fully up to you. I will still be giving out all the perks that have been promised and I will still use all of the money raised to finance the game project. <span><span>Expo Fighter is a traditional 2D fighter and in that vein I didn't want to reinvent the wheel when it came to the general game system. That being said, the ability to chain EX attacks together to allow for custom supers and the meter costing parry system are both improvements that I believe will give the gameplay a fresh feel, and will engage fighting game fans.</span></span><br />

<span><span>But Remember this is a game where you play as the President of Nintendo piledriving the President of Sony into the pavement! The game is full of E3 inspired insanity and that alone will make it a hilarious experience.</span></span><br />

<li>Cost one Hype stock to activate.</li>
<li>Gives new properties to a special move (invincibility, speed, damage).</li>
<li>Can be chain canceled into one another to allow for Hyper Attack strings. As long as you have enough hype gauge and can land the next move you can continue to chain.</li>

Denial (Parry)<br />

<li>Cost one Hype stock to activate.</li>
<li>Can parry high and low attacks. Also works in air.</li>
<li>Once in the parry state you can continue to parry at no extra cost (for example this allows you to parry a full combo chain or multi hit move at the cost of one stock).</li>

<li>No crouching throw tech, you must be standing.</li>
<li>Two chances to counter throws: a small frame window to tech, and a second longer window to soften the throw.</li>

<li>No standard corner cross up (might be possible in special circumstances).</li>
<li>Minimal damage scaling (although combos will be generally low in hits).</li>

I'm a game designer and a big competitive fighter fan, who is finally taking the plunge to create a fighter of my own. The theme is meant to be funny but my main goal is to create a smart fighting engine that rewards solid play.<br />

<i>Vanguard Princess</i> is a FULLY FREEWARE Doujin (Homebrew/Indie) 2D fighting game created by a single guy called <a href="http://suge9.blog58.fc2.com/" rel="nofollow">Sugeno</a> who was released on June 30 2009. The style of the game is a wacky combination between "old skool mechanism" and assist support, all combined with the "all-loved by SRK" loli characters! ANIME!. VP was created on Fighting Maker 2nd, a Japanese "fighting engine" just like MUGEN but with a lot of more support and possibilities. <b>Help! the game doesn't start on my PC</b><br />

Japanese version of Vanguard Princess <i>NEEDS</i> your Windows regional configuration for non-unicode programs in <i>Japanese</i>. For change that go to Control Panel -&gt; Regional and Language Settings -&gt; Administrative -&gt; Change the Unicode language to Japanese (thx <a href="http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=6997110&amp;postcount=203" rel="nofollow">Lolerskates</a> for this). Some people also tested the game with <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx" rel="nofollow">AppLocale</a> or <a href="http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=7007096&amp;postcount=347" rel="nofollow">NTLEA</a> and some times it?s seems to work but with some bugs, like unreadable fonts or no music. Also running the game on the root of C:\ seems to work to some random people. EigoManga version of VP runs without problems on any Windows version.<br />

I dislike a large majority of FF characters, but Lightning is awesome.<br />

You can set more than one Lobby Host in your computer, provided they’re in different ports.<br />

<br />
More of an update/expansion than a full sequel, but it's still nice to see another decent fighter on the XBLIG marketplace. Still has some of the things I didn't like about the first one (dedicated buttons for throwing and universal overhead, no option for LP+LK=Throw or HP+HK=Overhead) and added my least favorite command for a move (a new elemental form for everyone by hitting down,down,down+overhead), but more characters, new moves, and voice acting are all pretty awesome considering the game costs a buck.<br />

      <description><![CDATA[The more and more I visit different areas of the world playing these games I have noticed how incredibly different people's ideas are about money matching and gambling on games in general.<br />
<br />
When I visited Japan during 3s era, from what I could tell there was no money matching. I would like to know if it is common in Asia for people to money match because I know gambling is quite big there.<br />
<br />
Where I am from in Canada, it is non-existent, however I know money matching and betting at Toryuken and Canada Cup is just HUGE.<br />
<br />
Here in Germany it is quite common for people to money match and people actually come to events JUST to gamble (not even being entered in the tournament).<br />
<br />
I personally don't money match because I don't have a lot of extra money, I don't like gambling in general, and I don't like taking money from people(especially friends). I prefer to play the game for the sake of outplaying the opponent only because that is why I enjoyed playing the game in the first place.<br />
<br />
What do you think about money matches, do you play them? Do you think they hurt / better the game / community? Just to be clear I have no problems with people money matching I just want to know how others feel about it.]]></description>

I remember a couple years ago fighting games in general were selling better. MVC3, Soul Calibur 4 and even MK vs DC sold at least 2 million units. Now with these namco games and stuff like street fighter x tekken(for whatever reason) can't break 2 million. Why do you guys think that is?<br />

And with games like marvel 3 and MK vs DC selling the same despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of popularity in the FGC, how much influence does the FGC have on game sales anyway? Thanks.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Those of you who pay attention to new game announcements have almost certainly seen me around, promoting my studio's new project: Kaiju Combat.  We raised $112k on Kickstarter last December, thanks in part to the fighting game community.  Since then we've been having design votes, original character submissions, and lots of good chatter over at our official forums.  We're trying hard to be very transparent, and community-focused.<br />
<br />
I've been making games, mostly fighting / brawling games, for 15 years.  You can google my resume...<br />
<br />
We're on a tight budget, so we don't have the money to throw around on promotion, trade shows, etc.  But we've been nominated for the "Indies Crash E3" competition - and we're in a strong second place.  Voting ends on May 16th, it's free, and it takes just a moment of your time.       <description><![CDATA[I'm not sure if this is the correct sub forum, but if it isn't hopefully a mod can move it. Anyway, in my neck of the woods, we have a few different "Scenes" all of which have been going through major attendance issues as of late, and I'm wondering if anyone elses local areas are going through this, and if they have any solutions to solve it?<br />
<br />
As for the scene closest to me, we started out really strong, but a lot of the players were more on the casual side, and they kept losing so they stopped coming. We even had "random game tournaments" where you could win money in a random game that nobody plays, just to appease the casuals and that didnt help. We eventually had free entry to the casuals for a while, didn't help. Even our tournaments fell off to the point where we cant really even do them anymore.<br />
<br />
The other major scene implemented a 3 dollar door fee that completely shattered their numbers (they used to have very very solid numbers every week), and i can't see them ever getting it back even if they took it away.<br />
<br />
So, is this just our region thats going through is, also if you experienced anything like this, what can you tell me to help get things going again?]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[It'd have to be HDR. He feels so perfect. He has everything from ST, but his SRK timing isn't wonky anymore (used to have random leniency frames) and that fake fireball. Ryu is so solid. He can fireball turtle, he can do careful offense and pressure with that fireball, but he has the tools to rush crap down. Most fun I ever had playing Ryu.<br />
<br />
Other than that, Alpha 2 Ryu is very fun to play. I like all his gimmicks: fake fireball, red fireball, meaty fireballs, hurricane kick over fireballs, shinkuu fireball, hop kick that goes over lows and ticks, SRK is SRK, anti-cross up Shinkuu hurricane kick, over head punch, cross up MK, cheese CC, awesome alpha guards, sweep is still cancelable. If he could abuse the CCs better, he'd prolly be the best version of Ryu ever, besides like Hyper Fighting maybe.<br />
<br />
Even tho it was a bleh game, I thought that Ryu is CapCom Fighting Evolution was a lot of fun.<br />

      <description><![CDATA[Now I'm not here to insult anyone's preferred Fighter. I just have certain tastes when it comes to Fighters and I'm wondering if they can actually be fulfilled. The thing is, I play fighting games online primarily. There's no scene where I live so I rely on the online scene to get any play at all. This means alot of the Fighters I'm interested I just can't play. I'd really like to get into KOF XIII but upon downloading the game and checking out Player Match I find about 5 people hosting rooms at 9:00 PM on a Saturday night. I'm sorry to the KOF players, but I need some more activity than that. Simply put, what are the Fighters with a large amount of people playing them besides Street Fighter IV and MVC3? Injustice seems to be fairly popular right now, but then so was Persona 4. I'll also consider 3D fighters as well. I'd just like some assurance before purchasing my next Fighter.
