I'm going straight JAMMA on my cabinet, so I can't say what the "best way" is. I think the PS360+ from FocusAttack is the most universal way to wire the controls up. Use all SANWA stuff, it really is the best (IMHO), and is readily avail from FocusAttack.com. You could cannab a brawl stick but none of the buttons will work, you need the screw on type.

If you are going to throw a PS3 or XBOX 360 in there, use HDMI... it's clearly the best choice. No conversions needed.

For resolution, 1080P will give you the best overall quality. You could get away with a 720, I can't tell the difference.

TVs are TVs. Get a low lag, or not. You will have to figure out a way to mount it properly no matter what. I chose a 33" long MDF shelf that I drilled pocket holes into the sides, a vesa mounting hole scheme and then put it in. Pictures coming soon.

You want to make this a jamma cab? What type of games are you planning to hook up?

Today I am wiring it up. Very excited to get it up and running.

For the games I plan on sticking with Street Fighter series. The great thing about JAMMA is I can swap things out though as I wish. So when I feel like playing my TMNT/Simpsons/XMEN I quick swap and go.

So you want to play old school Jamma games? Why not just get a candy cabinet w/ lagless crt. You just can't beat the look on a Nano monitors when it comes too old school game plus has the right screen size which is 4:3.

    Because:

    1. I can.
    2. I can dual purpose the cab to use a PS3 if I chose.
    3. This is my third cab, first non-dedicated.
    4. I like the style of this cab and like JAMMA originals but don't like to lug around huge CRTs and pay for them.
    5. Ultimately I want a SSF4 JAMMA setup to use in It.
    6. Candys/Astros aren't common on the east coast.
    7. Building cabs and wiring them is fun.
    8. Fixing up someone else's mess isn't always fun and usually costs a lot of cash repairing stupidity.

    4. Candy cabs are a lot easier to move then a kraylix cab. I agree I love kray's work. That's why I bought 3 of them. I just find it odd to spend more money and time on an end product that will produce lag and non proper display. Kray setup is more geared to modern console. Just giving a heads up.

Well, progress has been made! The KrayLix is fully wired up, powered up, but no video. Turns out the Video Converter I used (I strayed from JROK) only has VGA out and my TV only has Compononet/HDMI in! Amazon is sending a new VGA-->HDMI converter (lagless... so they say). At least it sounds good and it sounds like all of the buttons work (I hear coins chiming and the game starts by sound). I spent a good 8.5 hours working on it today to finish it up, so I am dog tired and have no energy to dig out my card reader to upload images.

This project has been a lot of fun. I'll be posting up a total cost list when done. I figure that a JAMMA vs. a PS3 setup is about a $100 difference after you account for a video encoder vs. PS360 or otherwise. Of course that does not include the cost of a PS3 and a game to stick in it. More to follow!

PS. I only paid $400 for the paint job (in the DC area). The guy said he would never paint a cab that cheap again as it was a lot of work and a lot of material. So, when planning/budgeting for paint I would imagine $600-$700 is more along the lines of a finishing price. Keep in mind I just assembled it and but a little bondo in a few places, the painter did the rest.... and it wasn't that great of a job overall (it's good but not as perfect as it could have been).

I was gonna ask who your painter was but then saw how much you paid and that he won't do it again. I still want to have my clone (non kraylix but from the same design) repainted but for that price, i can get another cab.

I would say $400 is very reasonable for the prep-work associated with the cabinets. MDF is a huge PIA to paint. A lot of primer, a lot of sanding, a lot of bondo. Materials are cheap. He used automotive paint too (a requirement by me) which can be a bit pricey for good stuff that will last.

If you are in the DC/Northern VA area I have all of the stuff to paint (air compressor, spraygun, etc) and can help you out.... if you provide a garage. I don't have one in the rental house I am in. The house I own in Miami and Groton have one, but not here :(.... it really limits what I can do!

If it makes you happy or anyone else happy by having an lcd for jamma who am i to tell them they are wrong. I was just giving a heads up to people who may not have that experience yet or planning to. I was just pointing out the cons which is tech assistance IMO.

As for painting cabs, i did my first one on my own & it was pain in the ass & turned out bad. The prepping alone took forever to do, so i decided to get the my 2 slims done by an auto guy too. I forget how much he charge but he was a bit pissed off on how much prep work it took to do. He also told me he wouldn't do it again, especially for that price. He didn't even do a good job. I should have done it myself.

So if you guys want a beautiful paint job cab, just let Kray do it...Very good pricing & looks amazing.

I just bought a new 32" TV to replace my the one that come with my kraylix. The problem is that the new TV has a very thin bezel and can almost fit though the opening. I'd like to get some ideas on how to mount this new monitor.
  • Jasen HicksJasen Hicks JasensCustoms.com Joined: Posts: 2,385
I received some questions about how I installed my TV. Here's what I did:

    • I used a piece of white melamine cut to fit within the arches of the cabinet. About 10" tall x 33" wide (I think that's the dimension).
    • Then drilled a standard VESA 100x100 mm set of holes into it. I found measured the center of the board and stood off 50mm from the center in the x and y direction of the center point and drilled the holes. Imagine holes at the corners of a square that is centered on the board.
    • To make it easy to mount to the frame I drilled 4 pocket holes on the piece of melamine on either end so that I could get to them screws from the back without any cosmetic damage. I then found some nice long M8 screws that allowed me to put a few washers between the TV and the board and bolt it together.
    • A buddy helped me align the TV/melamine board inside the cabinet to get it flush with the bezel and centered. Then I simply screwed the pocket screws in to hold it all together.

Additional cost: $10. If you don't have a pocket hole jig, add about $20 to that. If you don't have a drill.... you probably shouldn't build one of these :)

I'm going to buy a second control panel for my viewlix. I'll make current control panel into the "silent version" with silent sticks and buttons for the late night sessions. I have an idea for the art that I would like to use for the second. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask (if somebody could point me in the right direction), but I'd like somebody to create the artwork for me. I would like it to look like the Sega New Net City control panel.

I think I found the right thread for this question, but I'll see if somebody from this thread can help me as well.

Just a heads up, trying to replicate a New Net City will be pretty damn hard to do.  Seeing as how the artwork is printed out in silver foil.

Just a heads up for everyone. I installed the CPS2 system in my Kraylix and wanted to use the onboard RCA Q-Sound. I found a cheap 12V amp on amazon since the Q-Sound amps are extremely rare/expensive. Unfortunately, the AT style power supply fan translates a lot of noise throughout the cabinet which resulted in a lot of humming. To fix, I used a ground loop isolator, same thing used in Automotive applications to prevent alternator/generator whine. Works great. Probably a good idea to include one for any system, even if used with a PS3/XBOX setup that uses an external amp to drive the speakers. For a few bucks it cuts down on the noise significantly. If you go the JAMMA route in your cab like I did, a true Arcade power Supply probably will cut down the noise as well... so long as their is no fan in the system anywhere or you pull audio directly from the JAMMA edge.

I also shot him an email with how I mounted my TV so that he might consider making it a standard piece that comes in the kit. I think its a bit more versitile than the blocks he includes. I guess we will see what he says!

    Here is the paper:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JOq0jkt3TrI#!

Not sure where if they make a long enough version, but it exists. If you google "metallic inkjet paper" you can find a lot of it. I think you could get the design fairly easy and take it to Kinkos with your own paper and have them run it through their large format paper... if you can get it big enough. Or the alternative is, do the silver as just part of the picture. It won't come out as shiny or very glossy... but the idea would be there.

Can't believe it's already been over six months since I got my kit in the mail... this thing is taking forever to complete 100% haha. Just about everything is done except for the artwork, coin door and the custom usb selector/power harness I'm working on. I should have my art soon, a bud of mine runs a local print shop. He's a bit of a flake though, told me it would be ready last week! I can't complain, his work is top notch.

It should be the same size as they use the same image as on the suzo happ site. They also mention in the description that it uses "industry standard mounting dimensions" so it should be the same. Either way I'll let you guys know. I searched threw his feedback and no one gave him bad feedback on the door.

Damn man that sucks. Whenever someone gives you the run around on shipping charges or wont tell you the price up front, chances are they're going to mark up the price after you commit to the purchase. There are automated system to calculate shipping, even manually it takes just a few minutes. There's no way 3 small sheets of metal will cost $50+ in shipping.

Happ always rob you for shipping, always. my coin door was like $32 I think and $22 for shipping (found after the fact), The coin door weighs nothing and came in a padded envelope not a box. Probably cost them about $5.00 on the high end to ship it since I am two states away from them.

These guys might be able to help you out. I needed to get my hands on a Happ power supply and the shipping was atrocious. This place shipped it for $5. Check them out and see if they have what you need.
Stridering since 1998; I play pragmatic and dirty. You will eat pringles and hate me for it.

Happ is balls to order from. They do have a flat rate of $15 with usps, but otherwise it could be more.
