Texas is an open carry state. If he had his papers that's on him.

But to carry a fucking rifle around during a peaceful rally? That is dumb.

It's about as dumb as carrying an AR-15 into a Target.

When I first heard about the open carry/conceal laws, I scoffed at my friend and said that law is NOT for black men.

It reminds me of that news story of some white dude/troll open carrying his AR in the middle of a black neighborhood. Someone called the cops and they just said he was legally able to do so.

What do you think would happen if some black dude did the same thing in white suburbia? You already know.

    In other news:
This guy got into a shootout/stand off with police, not too far from where I live. They were able to talk him out and he was arrested unharmed. Dude was white, it was an affluent neighborhood.

Either my county has superior-trained cops or there might be some kind of privilege action going on.

Probably a little bit of column A, a little bit of column B.

If the police treat him differently than all of the other people who do similar things just because he is black, then he would've proved his point.

I know. I understand that it's a constitutional right (that I disagree with), but I don't see many positives that could come from it. I assume the point of it is - 'stop shooting us because I am legally armed and I will shoot back'. But overall I think it does more harm than good.

Turns out Alton Sterling was a paedophile & violent, wife-beating registered sex offender with a history of police confrontations.

Check out his court documents - https://www.scribd.com/document/317643395/AS-Court-Documents#download&from_embed

Funny how most 'random blacks' the police end up shooting have a criminal record as long as your arm. It's almost as if blacks are more criminally inclined, more violent and far more likely to kill you. You can appreciate why the police are so skittish and trigger-happy around them.

Maybe if all the so-called 'good blacks' we keep hearing about would actually face up to the fact their communities and neighbourhoods have a far greater proportion of violent, criminally inclined thugs in them and do something about it, blacks everywhere might not all be faced with the same 'shoot first and ask questions later' mentality from police.

Or you could ignore all that and just carry on calling white people raaaaaacist and watch your kids' bodies pile up in gang related deaths and police shootings...

Idk how you can justify this given the fact that police who respond have absolutely no idea or clue about a person's history. So, shut the fuck up because this is clearly a stupid post

No it doesn't. This right gave black panthers the power to stop the abuse from cops in the 60's.

The original movement was started because people who needed the weapons were getting harassed as they went about their business.

Some assholes then started taking their guns everywhere to try and prove a point. personaly if we're going to have an armed society id rather be able to see whose armed, but that's just me.

Shooter has been ID'd. He was killed by police via a bomb detonated by police attached to their bomb robot. Exposing officers would have put them in grave danger, and using a remote bomb was the safest option they had, said the police chief. The hostage negotiator was able to talk to the shooter, and the shooter did breakdown and said that he was angry with the recent shootings of black men, and that he wanted to hurt white people, especially white officers. Shooter said he acted alone.

Man, my newsfeed is already making me sick this morning. Pretty much everyone I know that didn't give a fuck about the Alton shooting, etc are already pointing fingers and blaming the people that do care about it. I don't see how you can be fine with cops recklessly killing people with there being up close footage of it happening. But, then draw the line at innocent cops being killed when one is just as terrible as the other. I'll never understand this worship of men in uniform that a lot of people seem to have. Apparently if you have a badge or fatigues on then you can do no wrong.

While I think anyone who puts on a uniform to protect others, thereby putting a target on his chest, is worthy of some level of admiration, it sure doesn't mean you're above others. But from a purely societal point of view, shooting at cops is a problem above just shooting random civilians since they're the enforcers of the law - at least theoretically. Therefore preventing them from doing their jobs is indirectly preventing the rule of law.

However, because of this, cops wrongfully killing innocent people is just as much of a problem, since they are breaking the law they're supposed to uphold.

Imo, this isn't a racism problem, it's a conflict resolution problem. We train our police to shoot when they're in danger, even when other skills could end the altercation nonviolently or without death. The "control" a policeman has in America comes from the gun and the threat of the gun. All these white officers panic when dealing with black men because they don't understand their options.

I'm not denying that racism exists within the justice system, but American police lack the conflict resolution skills to avoid drawing their weapons.

Apparently they tried to get a confession out of the guy walking around with the rifle.
Whether you know it or not, police are allowed to lie to you during interrogation.

Mark Hughes, a protester in Dallas who was wrongly identified by police as a person of interest in last night’s horrific shooting, has learned that the hard way.

After being released by police after willingly turning himself in, Hughes told local news station KTVT that police blatantly lied to him during their interrogation by telling him that they had direct evidence that linked him to the fatal shootings of five police officers in Dallas Thursday night.

“I just got out of an interrogation room for about 30 minutes, where police officers were lying, saying they had video of me shooting a gun, which is a lie, saying that they had witnesses saying I had shot a gun, which is a lie,” Hughes said. “At the end of the day… the system was trying to get me.”

When asked by the reporter if he’d received an apology from police for being wrongfully identified, Hughes replied that he hadn’t. He also said that he has been getting nonstop death threats ever since the police released his photo to the public.

    1. As far as interrogation tactics, this is pretty benign, especially in what was potentially a ticking time bomb situation.

    2. Can't rule out the possibility that eye witnesses really *did* tell the police they saw him shooting. Wouldn't be the first time that an eye witness has given bad information.

Not quite, they are trained to "only" use lethal force whenever their lives are endangered. It just happens that their lives are "threatened" or "endangered" whenever a black dude is within 5 feet of a gun. You can have a white dude pointing a gun at a police officer and he would still not shoot, have a black guy reaching for his pocket and he is dead.

That actually isn't what they are trained for, that is all pr spin. They are really taught to always be on edge and protect yourself no matter what.

That's how interrogations work. They'll do anything and everything to make you say something they want you to say even if you didn't do anything.

Lying during interrogation is a common tactic by police. Saying they have video evidence and eye witness reports is used to scare a suspect into admitting the truth.

I thought everyone would have watched CSI by now. It's very common. IF they had anything against you, you wouldn't be under interrogation. Your ass will be in jail or on court.

I'm just seeing so many people be condescending about the black lives unnecessarily and wrongly lost. They don't seem to understand that that's the reason black lives matter is a thing. When cops needlessly kill black people they ignore it. When a black guy kills a cop they get outraged. They don't look at one being just as bad as the other.
