Some shots of the Japanese TR Trypticon..

Other than some mild color variations, there doesnt seem to be any radical updates.
Last image shows a comparison shot between Generations Metroplex and TR Trypticon

^^ Just looks like a Super-sized G1 Trypticon to me. Which isn't a bad thing i guess. Looks more tempting than Metroplex and Fort Max were at least.

Wait....why is he so much shorter than Metroplex?

Metroplex barely fits on my shelf as it is. If Trypticon was that stocky and as tall as Metro, I'd be fucked.

In hand video of MP Megatron. There is no voice over, but it's all subtitled. The video does show the complete transformation.

While the back leaves little to be desired, I am otherwise impressed. I skipped through it and avoided the transformation. I'm leaving that to the imagination, for now.

Oh snap. Megatron has a sound chip in the scope. Now we know where the additional $30 went. It's Japanese, but at least it has the OG transformation sound in it.

Personally, I don't think this is necessary just like the lights in Primal's eyes.

    Guys -

If you own any other version of Megatron - literally throw it away.

This is MP Megatron. It's complex, but after you transform it once, it is intuitive enough for you to never look at the instructions again.
There are a few proportion things that I don't care for and the back doesn't clean up that well. However, from an engineering perspective, this figure nails it all. The leg transformation to gun mode made me laugh at how genius and simple it is (kinda like Inferno's ladder)

A word of caution - DO NOT SLIDE THE BARREL EXTENSION ALL THE WAY DOWN! IT WILL RUB THE PAINT!

I got a small scratch on mine from doing so. Other than that, it's a keeper. I don't know what I will do with Apollyon, but it's getting tossed out of the display case.

MP-36 Megatron is the definitive Megatron - A

I know i said I was getting out of the classics game, but ran in TRU and came out with the TR Chaos on Velocitron set and Triggerhappy.

Let's start with the bad -

Chaos on Velocitron is pretty much an ensemble of repaints that surprisingly enough is priced well. You get the following -

Rodimus Prime - a die cast Titanmaster head
Nautica - Retool/ Repaint of Blurr with thrusters
Fastclash - 1/2 of the clone duo from G1 (the car) (new mold)
Laser Prime - A repaint of voyager Prime from TR in all its G2 glory
Quickswitch - A redeco of Sixshot

It's $99 and it's not bad for what it is, but wasn't impressed at all. The TM Rodimus was just a titanmaster with a die cast face. Nothing to run home about. Nautica was actually the best part of the set, but IMO doesn't really capture the look in the face. Fastclash is another example of G1 to a fault. It's the most useless altmode I have seen in a while. Laser Prime is decent, but I own the OG G2 release and the RTS version. When I opened the box, I was stunned to see how small the vehicle mode of the figure was. That just set me off in the wrong way. Quickswitch is a straight recolor of Sixshot with a different TM. I never liked the figure then and don't like it now. For me, it goes from shape with wheels to shape with wings, to shape with treads, etc. It's not discernible in any way.

I have since sold the set (in parts) to members of the various TF facebook groups.

If you don't own any of those molds and want them, go for it. If you already own them, there is nothing here that makes it worth double dipping unless you have an affinity for the characters or looking to get both clones at some point. I must warn you that people are scalping this set because of the clone figure. I sold the set pretty much at cost, but I have seen Fastclash go for $25 and up.

Triggerhappy on the otherhand is the definition of a "good transformer". The transformation is relatively simple, but also has a few tricks in the conversion. Just the right amount of paint apps and fairly poseable. My only gripe is that it is a Titanmaster instead of a targetmaster.

If you see it, definitely worth picking up.

I'm going to head this off at the pass.
One of the fan sites (Seibertron.com) has posted an article about paint and breakage of MP-36. It cites The Chosen Prime's letter to purchasers on paint scraping when applying the silencer and chipping when transforming. I will admit that this is true. The suppressor is a very tight fit so there is some paint rub, but it is very minor. I have not experienced chipping anywhere else. These photos are from my figure after removing the suppressor several times.

The article uses a broken barrel and a few other pics to make it seem like it's a widespread problem. IT IS NOT!

It was found that the person inserted the barrel misaligned and twisted the barrel off. The others are users yanking the joint or forcing it incorrectly. I transformed this thing at least a dozen times, and no issues. The figure is well built. Keep in mind that this is a $180+ collectible. Just don't rush, don't force fit, and follow the instructions and you will be fine.

I never really read Seibertron.com but that was a very misleading article.

I had Apollyon as a stand-in for MP5 Megs, since he was horribly out of scale compared to the rest.
I agree on you with MP 36 Megatron, it blows any other MP styled Megatron out of the water. I'm very content with it.
Luckily I was able to sell of my Apollyon very quickly.

Speaking of X-Transbots, I'm never buying one of their products again, although they have the look down, the sturdyness and QC is pretty horrible (arms popping of the joints while moving it... come on..)
The only 3rd party company I approve of (if you want that G1 look) is Fans Toys.

I am gonna try to sell Apollyon for quarters. A lot of collectors don't want to because they look at what they paid vs. what they can get for it now. I didn't get into this space for making money, I just want figures that represent the characters displayed on a shelf in my home. In the same vein, how much is it worth to you collecting dust. I have already moved Apollyon out of my display case and don't really have a place for it.

Does anyone own the Wei-Jang MPP-01 (OS AOE Evasion Mode Prime)? I just bought the MB-11 which is pretty much the APS-01U version of the ROTF leader Prime without all of the stealth force additions and the MECH TECH guns. Something about the MPP-01 seems "off" now.

Technically that figure has been released twice already. It's decent as Optimus, but something about it just feels wrong as that character.

    TR Blitzwing Review:

IMO the tank mode on 2013 Blitz is better than TR Blitz.

Having a two inch recessed gap where the thrusters are is odd and the folded down wings with stickers draws your eyes unnecessarily to it.
The rear section of the tank being purple is annoying too.

Jet: The TR jet mode is superb though.I like it more than 2013 Blitz.

Robot mode: TR Bltiz shoulders actually stay on and since hes a headmaster , no worries about the head herniating through the nosecone. Has a pure G1 toy look. Purple face! 2013 BW looks a bit more menacing to me.

I like the weapons on 2013 BW more and he has wrist swivels.

    Tough call.

You can get him for about $100 now. The same people nagging about how bad MP-36 looks are slowly selling the 3P releases now LOL.

Been looking at various comparison pics. MP-36 is obviously the most sheer cartoon accurate to date, and that catapults him to the top of the list. When it comes to everything 3rd party, Mightron appears to be the 2nd best MP-style Megs we've ever gotten.

Being less than half-price is nice too.

I just got TR Brawn and saw TR Chase/Roadburn at Target here in FL.

The wave 1 TLK movie deluxes ($20) are out too for those interested.

    Happy Hunting!

I got AOE Prime - Which beats the living shit out of all of the leader releases to date. It has a psuedo-backpack, but there is a transformation. If the thing had a better paint job, it would be glorious.

I also had Barricade. It's all kinds of meh (as a transformer) but its a significantly better design than the previous ones. I've already sold it due to my apathy towards it. It was easy to sell again since that it comes 1 per case.

(Cosmos is basically the same as the 2013 release but with no payload targetmaster and subtle paint differences.)

I have a KO of MP Road Rage that I bought from Best Gray on Amazon for like $30. Minor paint defects here and there, but ultimately looks good with the rest of my collection. I'll prolly get a MP Megs, Cheetor, and Primal at some point if I continue to hear good things.

I would just advise looking at some of the reviews for QC issues before making a purchase. But it's getting increasingly difficult to justify paying $150+ for the major JP releases, especially with no details available on a Hasbro release schedule.

I have a High-quality KO G1 Abominus and G1 Defensor from 5-6 years ago. Pretty nice. even came in authentic looking G1 style boxes with styrfoam inserts. Speaking of KOs, recently noticed some KO MP Soundwaves That are looking good for $60. Also an Over-sized KBB-MP Bumblebee that looks nice.

I'm in favor of KOs as long as they are priced accordingly, good quality, and nice repro boxes.

I have stayed away from the KO scene. I don't knock anyone that buys them, but rather the funds go to the creative source. That new Soundwave KO so far has made a pretty good impression

If anyone is into the movie stuff, the only figure I personally recommend is Voyager Prime. If it wasn't for the lack of paint, it would be a better stand in for the characters leader releases.

Also this new price point leave very little to be desired.

I'm very much in favor of the KO scene because TF collecting, however modest, has become the rich geeks hobby for the past few years now. Seems like you have to take out a bank loan if you expect to own a mere handful of good MP figures. Plus there's the scalping part of the equation to consider. I remember when U.S MP Soundwave w/cassettes first landed, you couldn't find him anywhere. Except on E-bay at 40% profit mark-up. So there's that to consider.

Furthermore, i remember back around 2011 when Takara/Hasbro started cheaping out on plastic quality. I guess they figured only older collector's with disposable incomes would be buying these and treating them carefully, not little kids. So they could justify charging big bucks for lower than usual qwuality.

I still remember the Masterpeice Rodimus Prime debacle. He was basically made of KO-quality plastic. First one i got was broken in the package. Second one was good but developed stress marks after i carefully transformed him for the first time. In the end, i sold him because i figured i would inevitably break him one day anyway.

With all that said, good/decent quality Masterpeice KOs w/boxes are very welcome. Higher-end KO makers are the unsung hero's in my opinion.

I havent bought any yet but I've heard some are even better than legit in some ways.

KO MP Tracks had rubber wheels unlike the real one.

Yes model/bb7 MP seekers had a torso that locked in properly.

I've always thought those Mp-3rd party Sunstreakers were excellent.

With the release of an offical masterpeice, that means they'll drop in price. Win-Win.

It's like having a really nice sportscar that you're in love with... and then a year later they come out with a model that's fancier.

Or having a well-equipped smartphone thats PERFECT for your needs....and they release a nicer model 6 months later.

So what if its better? If you were already happy with what you had....

I agree, however most collectors have a certain aesthetic that they want it to line up with. Sunsurge is no slouch by any means, but if you are looking for "Stepped out the TV" accurate, Takara has the edge. From the lighting it looks like the paint color has more of a sun gold instead of yellow.
It's also got the ability to look like a normal Countach.

Even though the 84-85 lineup was mainly filled with the seekers as the spotlight characters, it's time to move on. The following are must haves for G1 MP-

    Reflector
    Constructions
    Insecticons
    Galvatron
    Cyclonus
    Scourge
    Blitzwing

The first 3 are more likely since thier repaint potential is readily visible.
