Ugh, probably going right back to status quo, ugh.

EDIT: And it looks like they're going back to earth, ugh.

^Uh no, the Furman book continues the story from the original Marvel series, the others won't be affected by it.
So if you want to see Autbots vs. Decepticons on earth, read the new series, want to continue with the current direction, read the other ones.
...or at least that's the way I think it'll be =V

Knowing my luck it'll be like I fear it will be, G1 obsessed nerds bitching so fucking much about the direction of both RID and MTMTE.

THE FCBD Transformers book showed where Furman's story is going to go after his Marvel run, the same thing they did with the FCBD G.I. Joe book right before Larry Hama continued his run in G.I. Joe ARAH.

One thing that was interesting was Optimus Prime was mentoring Hot Rod (I have no idea if that happened in the original Marvel series, I left off right around when the Head Masters and Target Masters showed up).

So it is going to be a seperate series? Sweet.

Can't wait to see more stuff with Leige Maximo, though even in the Marvel series the cons going right back to being the main enemies after taking on Jihaxus's Forces seems dumb to me. Hope we see guys like Carnivac, Thundercracker, and Skywarp go Nuetral or something seeing how they lost all faith with Megs.

So does the new Furman series ignore the Generation 2 series?

Not sure but it picks up after issue 80. In the FBCD issue there's no sign of Megatron as a tank, but it features gun / G1 Megatron versus his future self Galvatron.

Head Masters and Target Masters get mentioned which is pretty much where I left off.

Pretty trippy read that jumps around through eras and time periods. Or just to show how this universe is different. To sum up, this world didn't turn out exactly how the animated movie turned out but some things are similar. Well that has been the case for quite a while anyway I think, it's just driving the point home is all.

When the series starts it will probably be a lot more of a straight forward read.

Probably my biggest complaint about the original Marvel series was I never really cared for the artwork back then. I suppose I may have had the cartoon on my mind like most people which I thought was a lot better at chatacter designs.

Have to say that Wildman has improved vastly over the years.

It could also be that the inker Baskerville has improved or the new coloring process makes the artwork shine. Or I no longer have the cartoon on my mind? I dunno. Still I like the artwork a lot more this time around.

Oh hey after a second look, Furman confirms in the forward that it's a continuation of G1 so in this world it seems like G2 never happened.

G2 still takes place within G.I. Joe ARAH since it continues the classic series (the crossover with Transformers is reprinted in the 14th TPB). Not that Hama is going to revisit Transformers in ARAH though.

Then again since Hama just had Cobra Commander bust out his G.I. Joe Sigma 6 armor (WTF, I mean that in a good way) anything is possible.

Eh if you're gonna turn Megatron into a lame tank because you don't want kids robbing liquor stores with a toy gun at least get Cobra involved. :D

Didn't Megs get an eggplant color pallete for his G2 design?

Well at least in the G.I. Joe comic the G2 Megatron tank was all green and blue. Never seen any of the G2 Tranformers comics so not sure about anything else.

I like eggplant. And he looked better in the comics. I have the G2 toy. The toy is neon green with purple camo. It's just a giant brick with like no poseability from what I remember. And his head was tiny. But when you push it down, he says, "Megatron attack!" in a voice that sounds nothing like Frank Welker.

Took a second look at G2 Megatron in the Classic G.I. Joe TPB #14. His face is blue, his helmet is dark gray, the tank parts are blue and there's some purple camouflage. The rest is dark gray for the most part. For some reason I thought the camouflage splotches were blue instead of purple so my bad.

FURMAN: WTF are you talking about? Never happened.

G2 was fairly shite for the most part anyway.

Just think of another way to introduce Jhiaxus and it'll be fine.

Of what I've read of Furman's Transformers work he seems to be an all-inclusive kind of writer when it comes to Transformers.

He may not reference G2 but I don't think he'll really go out of his way to erase it either if he doesn't feel he has to. In the FBCD issue he points out that Galvatron hails from an alternate reality future, so he's not disputing other worlds, he just may not acknowledge one or the other.

He's basically picking up where he left off in a situation where he doesn't have to push a toy or worry about what anyone else is doing with Transformers. Like G.I. Joe ARAH it's basically a 'What If I could do ANYTHING way back when' kind of thing.

    Sit back and enjoy.

I really wish IDW could get the rights to continue on the old DW Energon series and let Furman finish his work on it.

Armada/Energon was the best DW Transformers book by far.

Found a copy of IDW's Transformers: Maximum Dinobots for three bucks, so I pounced on it. Read the first two chapters so far. Is this supposed to be one of the more well-regarded IDW TF comics?

I finished reading it, but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it very much.

I thought Furman's scripting was rather lazy. There was a lot of exposition. I hate it when characters speak out loud to nobody just so they can bring readers up to speed. That really takes me out of a story.. It's even worse when they explain their motivations (as if their actions don't speak for themselves). It's worse still when they give unnecessary speeches or describe their actions in the middle of fights. (But the most laughable thing is when characters speak their own name aloud to us, like, "It was a good thing I, Zephyranthes, remembered to turn off the stove before I left the house today." Who thinks like that? Let alone speaks like that? Out loud? To nobody in particular?)

Granted, I am not caught up in all of the backstory in the IDW comics, but it's a Transformers comic, not quantum astrophysics. On its own, it was kind of a mindless action comic, which isn't the worst thing in the world. I didn't really dig the art, though. The action scenes were a little cluttered, and not in that insane, designy, hypnotize-the-reader Chris Bachalo kinda way. They were just cluttered and panels just had too much going on to be coherent or interesting.

I don't really remember Furman's TF comics being so clunky. I might have to scrounge up some of his old Marvel stuff for a reread. I loved those when I was younger. I even liked The War Within from DreamWave like ten years ago.

Last Stand of the Wreckers does the whole big Action Comic thing alot better than Maximum Dinobots by a long stretch. I was kind of happy with MD finishing up most of plot threads Furman set down earlier. It was alot better than the fucking Dead Universe Arc which was hard as hell to follow due to being in so many different issues and the inconsistent art. Though anytime EJ Su draws Bludgeon it's godlike.

The War Within was kind of cool, some of the speeches Optimus did to nobody in that series were pretty dumb. Mainly just wanted to see more stuff with Starscream, Grimlock, Thundercracker, and Skywarp.

Just read Regeneration #81, can't lie that first panel with Megs was hype, dude is a beast.

Also read the latest MTMTE, really hope time travel is involved witht he current mystery so some deaths get averted, mainly
Rung, I really liked that guy. One more reason for Swerve to hopefully die a very very very very very VERY painful death. Maybe he can get painted blue and purple and they can toss him to Fort Max.

    MTMTE
YAY RUNG IS ALIVE! Sans head currently though, Red Alert passed off a recording to Rung's body because he's the only person he can trust. On the recordign was Overlord sedated and strung up in a unmakred section of the shit and Red Alert is fearing he's gonna be silenced soon, for once he might not be paranoid for no reason. We also get to see the DJD for the first time and these are some beast guys with some interesting designs and abilities, they freaking killed Black Shadow the last Phase Sixer, kind of lame really wanted to see more of him. We also got introduced to a group fo reject Decepticon's who are scavenging supplies off of dead bots to get to Cybertron and one of them is on the DJDs kill list and they have to turn whoever it is in or they all die. And the ship their on has one special guest, goddamn Grimlock!.[/spoilers]

Sooo hype about the next issue of Regeneration One coming out this week! :D

Started re-reading the original Marvel Comics for fun. I'm going with the Titan TPBs because the IDW ones skip over Marvel Universe stuff like Spider-Man chilling with Gears.

Haven't read a lot of these stories in years since my older brother used to collect Transformers. I would just read his stuff when he wasn't looking. :p

The Spidey, Marvel's Godzilla and Savage Land nods early on are quite a hoot. Most def forgot about most of this stuff.

Oh yeah one detail I was wrong on in the newest MTMTE
It wasn't Rung putting the data chip in a slot on his body, one of the medical droids took it and some shadowy figure picked it up, looks like Red Alert might not be so crazy

Oh snap not only did Megatron destroy the entire Earth and turned it into Fist of The North Star land he made Ratchet HIS BITCH! Dude's head is a freaking hood ornament on Meg's floating scooter, homeboy can't talk or nothing just gets to see Megatron's reign of terror! Hot damn Megatron's still mad that Ratchet knocked him off the mountain back in issue #8. That was over 20 years ago, even in Transformers' time! Talk about holding a grudge.

2012 in the comic and the entire Earth has been destroyed! The Mayan's prediction wasn't wrong, they were just talking about the Transformers Regeneration One comic yup yup! :looney:

Is it 2012 in the comic? I thought it was a few years at most after the end of the series during the 80s.

Yeah it's 2012. It's stated clearly in the FCBD issue. Furman's last TF comic came out in 1991, and the new one is right now, 2012. So it works in real time. Furman's crazy. CRAZY!

Aha thanks for clearing it up, altho I wonder...what if Megs destroyed Earth in the late 80s/early 90s and the events we're reading take place in 2012? (Sorry don't got the FCBD issue with me atm)

Right now all we know is that Megatron destroyed the Earth at some point during the 21 year gap. Probably piece by piece and not all at once. Most of the Autobots, especially Optimus Prime stayed on Cybertron and left the Earth alone during that time.

1991 - Transformers #80 (same year the issue was released)
    2012 - Transformers Regeneration One #81, 82

For argument's sake Furman's not writing actual dates in the story - though a caption that reads '...In Transformers #80 (1991)' can be taken as such and probably should.

Still if you try to shave off years you just wind up having the apocalypse occur even earlier.

If you want to add several years to the entire Transformers saga then this is some world where people used walkmans for a looong time.

You sort of run into another headache by advancing time because the animated movie's story which occured here (Galvatron in #80 and FCBD #80.1) in an alternate future / reality is famously time stamped for taking place in 2005. A future which obviously doesn't occur, in our world or this one. No flying cars or extended space travel for us. BOOO.... :(

CONFUSED MUCH? Lol best to think almost every comic you buy happens when you read it. At least Furman has created a scenario where the sliding time scale isn't needed, for now. Thank goodness robots don't age.

Furman's definitely breaking new ground, I can't think of any other 'pick up where we left off' comics that have done something like this. We are getting an apocalyptic future in the present lol freaking awesome! :D

Picked up Regeneration and RID, Regeneration is cool but it's having a hard time holding my interest.

Was pretty dope to see Superion, wondering howt he Arielbots got the ability to combine and who's doing all this stuff ot drive the bots crazy. The time ship Turmoil used ot get to Cybertron mysteriously dissapeared, most likely suspects are Ravage, Reflector, Spectro, Spyglass, and Shockwave seeing how they've been up to something lately and Arcee keeps doing her own thing, letting the five of them live despite having them in her sights. Wonder whats up with her.

Wonder how long Megs is gonna stay dead?
And I find it funny, while TRGO Megs is dead, Megs makes his return to Cybertron in the latest RID and Arcee continues to be playing multiple sides, giving some information to Starscream while letting him know she knows where Dirge is hiding and if she feels like it rat him out to Prowl. Hard to tell who's on the side of the demons right now, Starscream or Prowl.

Man lots of bombshells in Tf comics
Optimus's plan works and the explosive Matrix is replaced with a non lethal one, unfortunatley the corrupt Sentaors are able to hold a few of Pax's crew hostage and Pax's Sentaor friend turns himself in to save them. Pax and Chromedome go to the Institute but sadly learn that thsi is just one of many Institutes. At the end of the issue the Sentaor who has remained unnamed is going through a Shadowplay operation to have his emmory wiped and Empurata, a punishment in which a bots hand and head are replaced, and we learn the Sentaors name SHOCKWAVE!

Soundwave was in a base that he thought Hot Rod might blow up and he was all like "Nah man he doesn't have the balls to do something like that, he a scrub." Next thing you know, KABLOOEY! HA HA go Hot Rod! I wonder if Soundwave survived.
