Added Zuranthus's testing to the combo section, and I did an extensive play-by-play on Tsurugi pressure. Next up for me is the Karakusa section! Expect that ... Monday or Tuesday. I'm going away for the weekend.

I don't know what's wrong with the coding, sorry.

Did a pretty big section on how to land the Karakusa. It's somewhat opinionated ... I won't sugar coat it, LOL. I'll finish up the section on Monday.

I can get double fukis to work on Cody. I think the post-crumple setup matters though.

If you're partial to the crumple, backdash, foward dash, mp fuki setup... then the only thing that hits him is the kara-EX-fuki. But if you're partial to the crumple, wait till knees hit the floor, mp fuki setup... then you can do a kara HP fuki and it should hit.

    EDIT:

I just realized what you were actually asking. YES, double ex fuki works on Cody, but the last one must be kara-ed.

Here's a vid me doing it just to confirm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGTo0ZH0f0U CHECK OUT THAT RANGE

I wouldn't recommend doing it though. With the lvl2 FA, damage/stun is 386/582 for 3 bars. The non-EX double fuki combo deals out 326/522 for just 1 bar.

    Amazing thread!

I don't quite understand Fukikusa - the hcb hp+hk. What does this do? Increase the range of karakusa or something?

The fukikusa let's u karakusa them if they decide to stay on the ground or fuki them if they jump is the quick answer.

K, did some testing on post-sweep OS's (demonstrated by vryu and peqqi and others) on the entire cast. Pretty sure the list is accurate.

    Legend
    OS sweep = cr.hp --- dash x2 --- cr.lp OS cr.HP
    OS f.MK= cr.hp --- dash x2 --- cr.lp OS f.MK

notes: Use OS sweep to work on your oki. Use OS f.MK for hit confirm into HK (Target combo 2) for damage/stun of 190/300 or to work on mix-ups (like, instead of hit f.MK~HK, do f.MK into EX kara on mashers/blockers, or whatever). Mix-ups are inherently risky; still needs experimenting to see if useful during actual matches.

Characters that get hit only by OS sweep
    Gouken
    Akuma
    Abel
    Bison/Dictator
    Fuerte
    Vega/Claw
    Adon

Characters that get hit only by OS f.MK
    Ibuki
    Makoto
    Gen
    Dan
    Dhalsim
    C. Viper
    Deejay
    Guy
    Evil Ryu
    Fei

Characters that get hit by both OS sweep and OS f.MK
    Ryu
    Ken
    Honda
    Sakura
    Oni
    Yun
    Juri
    Sagat
    Cody
    Hakan
    Yang
    Guile
    Blanka
    Zangief
    Rufus
    T. Hawk

Characters that get hit by neither OS sweep nor OS f.MK
    Dudley
    Seth
    Chun
    Balrog/Boxer
    Rose

    Notes:
For Dudley, Seth, and Boxer, I'd use OS f.MK. When f.MK comes out, it won't whiff (they'll have to block it). So you'll be in range to continue pressure. Chun Li and Rose-- with their godlike backdashes-- are completely out of range; the f.MK whiffs. So they can backdash again to safety. Back to square 1. (There has to be an ultra2 option select that could be useful against these chicks).

Hope this helps! If you see any errors, please correct it. Also, can someone test out possible OS's for people that can teleport on wakeup. I tried this on Vega/Claw: sweep, dash x2, c.LP OS f.HP. If Vega just stands there or blocks, c.LP, s.LP, etc comes out. If Vega backflips, f.HP comes out for a hard punish. Problem is the timing, f.HP sometimes comes out too early. Needs more testing....

One thing we should try to do in this is not refer to other setups; i.e. from super unless we either specifically write the setup or link to it. that will make readability a lot better. For instance in the Fei post you talk about the crossup tsurugi but don't say how to do it.

This is shaping up to be a great guide, the information is really solid. However I think it would be great to have a section detailing safe jump set-ups. Can anyone list a few here, just as a quick reference? Would be a huge help.

Ah so it's an option select? Every time I try it, only karakusa comes out. Can you please explain it a bit more?

Do this: set the training mode dummy to jump once you've started to hit them with a s.HP xx HP Hayate. Right afterward, dash forward and do the input 63214+HK+HP. You will whack your opponent with a Fukiage. It might be character specific, since everyone gets pushed back a little differently.

Thanks for all the hard work on this guide to everyone that is participating in it's creation. I know there is plenty more to do but I would love to see a section on hayate cancels down the road. I figure there are more important sections but I'm just getting to the point of working them into my game and would love to hear some of the Makoto masters' strategies on when to use them etc... I'm searching the forum but info is pretty spread out.

I did a proper section on Hayate Canceling. You may sense I don't like s.MP xx HC outside of ending a block string anymore, heh.

someone needs to test the cLP, cLP, sLP, cHP combo on the cast (standing & crouching)
& of course by default if this combo works U1 could replace cHP

so far i know it works on Gen, Balrog & Guy
i'd test it myself but frankly it's quite hard to pull off for me, plinking on pad is murder

is it enough to just set Makoto to record? or is the combo's timing and range character specific?

Is it a link the S.LP after the C.LP? Cause if so that would be a 1 frame link I believe.

yes, it's a link, if you chain it on Guy the sLP whiffs...i don't think it's 1 frame though, i can get it consistently, it's the cHP that's a bitch to link

You have to read them fast. I think this is the biggest thing to do. If you know they aren't playing the same game you are, you can account for it.

If you are talking about online matches, you normally don't go through many games against the same person in ranked. The first 30 seconds will be your measuring stick to figure out if they going to play wild or not.

I try to decide what kind of person they are. If they are the desperate type, I watch out for uppercuts, supers, and ultras. I use more safe jumps and get ready to tech throws after my safe jumps. If they mash jab, I try to use frame traps. If they like to throw, look for tsurugi opportunities. If they are just unreadable like Valle, then that's a different case because he probably just has a better mind game that you do going on.

You gotta remember that the "retards" aren't following the same mentality that you are and won't fall for the tricks that normally work on people. I say "retards" loosely as they may actually be reading you well and doing the things you just don't think a normal person would. If they truly aren't playing smart, you just have to keep it simple and get the damage where you can. In some matches, I just trip/oroshi them constantly then block when they have their ultra. They'll eventually give away the match to you. Just don't expect them to be easily conditioned to block.

This is easy. Just defend yourself. If you suspect a retard. Defend yourself. Jump over those fireballs, and block/backdash every time on wakeup and punish the attempted reversal. block every opportunity for their ultra whether they use it or not.. just seriously. as was said by Torpid, don't do things that normally work. The tricks, and the OS's ond the meaties they just get beat by 3f DPs and ultras all day. Don't get flashy. Dont' show off. Just hit them a few times, get a health lead, and sit on that shit. then just crouch block and fukiage that ass. Practice your AAs. You dont' have to do anything. They will kill themselves...

I assume you're talking about the typical XBL warrior. The type who doesn't know frame data, generally can't do more than the basic combos, does a lot of unsafe stuff that works because it's random and because it's online, and has a strange meld of sublimely knowing how to win while simultaneously having no fucking clue what the hell is really going on.

The type who will do a late sweep on their wake-up, that beats your bait due to your late crouch teching or starting to attack a bit after realizing they didn't reversal ... they didn't think that, they just said, "Hey, he's in range for a sweep!!! WOOOO!!! c.HK!!!" The type who will do an unsafe move and follow it up with a more unsafe move because it's a generally punishable move, or rather, a move where the opponent should normally be able to start momentum/attack, like after Balrog's TAP. The type who will attack immediately after jumping every time, because they don't know how to AA and are just hoping you were going to jump. The type who will randomly do an Ultra when cornered, at a random time ... not reversal, just random. The type who does guerrilla tactics over and over again, because their lag makes these tactics unpunishable.

    Sound familiar?

These are the types of players I lose to more than anything else. People who actually know how to play are actually vulnerable to mind games because they're actually thinking while they play instead of smashing buttons.

    Ok guys 2 things:

    - Does anyone know where I can get Makoto's Japanese quotes and translation?? I've been looking for like 3 days and I cand find anything!

-Ok I went through all the non-sticky threads in the forum. Anyone know a mod? I think all non-sticky threads that have 20 replies or less should be deleted. I looked at them all and 99.99999999% of them are useless. Personally, I also think that all sticky threads that have not been updated since June 7th should be deleted. I only say keep the ones with more posts so I can go through them to see if there are any gems I can put in this thread... somebody give me some good news.

Oh P.S.- this thread needs to be stickied soon....

    More farplaner awesomeness

Thanks man so much I really appreciate it. I dont' read japanese. Also, do you (or anyone) know what she's saying at match start?? I remember what it means, but I dont' remember how to spell it. Thanks again!

really? what was your question? Sorry man i got a bad memory. And sorry if it was me that flamed you lol. The wife might've irritated me that day lol.

But yeah i was only looking to fill in the space in here with as much info as possible so that people won't open up any new threads. As I was going through the old threads, I saw that asked like 5 times but little to no answer. So I was just looking to post it in here. That's why I made so many OPs.

Also, I wanted to put something Makotoy for my status or what not lol. but i wanted it to be in japanese if possible. I can't actually see the characters (are they called characters?) here at work because the add on isn't installed, but I'll take a look when I get home.

At match start, she says: "勝負じゃ!" The romanji is "shoubu ja!"

And afterwards you're sitting there frustrated and feeling stupid because you lost to someone who you feel you shouldn't have lost against...

Hopefully one of you guys can put this on the front page.

    The Ibuki Match up
I will go over Ibuki's strengths and weaknesses describe how is best to deal with them. To be honest the best thing to do against Ibuki is to "block" and when there's an opening in her block string back dash to reset the situation and try to find an opening.

    Strengths

    Kunai Mixup
-I heard a lot of people have problems when Ibuki knocks you down and SJ's towards you and throws the kunai. As the kunai is hitting you, you must block in the direction of "Ibuki". It is also recommended to block standing because if your crouching the kunai becomes an unblockable if hit on a certain frame.

-If the kunai isn't a meaty you can also ex karakusa if the Ibuki player starts a grounded block string.

    The Untechable Knock Down
-Every time Ibuki knocks you down it's untechable unless it was a dp that knocked you down. A good Ibuki player will OS you on your wake up so NO back dashing or reversals are allowed against good Ibuki players because you will either get your neck broken or eat a high damage Ultra

    The EX Dragon Punch
-A lot of Ibuki players will sometimes throw out this reversal recklessly because its kinda of weird to punish. When actually its one of the most highly punishable reversals in the game. To punish properly you must dash or jump towards Ibuki before she even has a chance to throw the kunai. If you forget to do one of these things you could always just ultra 2. This removes any guessing of whether or not she is going to throw the kunai.

    Her Overhead (The comand normal)
-Be careful crouch teching because if you get caught by this you could be eating a combo into ultra. She's at frame advantage if blocked so watch out for a frame trap.

    Weaknesses

    Her Ground Game
-Her ground game is horrible and Makoto's is far superior to hers. Here is rundown of her most used normals.

---Cr. Strong-- This move protects her ground space and can be buffered into a special just like Makoto's cr. strong. So don't rush in recklessly and protect your own space while building meter

---Slide-- This is the move most Ibuki players will use to advance on the ground and if spaced poorly can be punished with cr. lk xx whatever. If you see an Ibuki in her slide range always have a cr. lk buffered into an ex hayate to ruin her day

---St. Forward--This is a good priority normal with crappy range. Use cr. stong before Ibuki is close enough to use this move

    The Strategy

The objective in this match up for both characters is the same, and that is to get the first knock down. If she manages to get the first knockdown make sure you don't let her do a million block strings on you because she builds a ton of meter that way. And once you get that knock down DO NOT let pressure go, especially if Ibuki has no meter. When Ibuki has no meter go for counter hit set ups and anti back dash strings until you bring her to the corner. After that she pretty much lost already.

You forgot MP Fukiage and U2 get Makoto out of her backdash. Slow, rhythmic c.MK+LP+LK OS beats her overhead when under pressure.

I don't know if we're going to be doing a whole match-up section. Ibuki isn't a problematic match-up, if anything it's in Makoto's favor. For now, IMO, I think we should limit this thread to FAQ-like information, including her naturally puzzling or difficult match-ups. I'll add this anyway, since you put the time in to write it.

Well the whole being airborne during mp fukiage isn't exactly true if the kunai is meaty, I also believe you eat counter hit damage for trying. Just a note.

May I request some matchup tips against Blanka? Out of all the characters in the game, I hate fighting Blanka the most. I just don't seem to have an accurate response to people who tend to use lightning every 3 seconds. Even though I'm not that experienced with the game, I should be able to do something against that move. Also, I tend to fall for some of his gimmicks like the hopping crap when I'm waking up. Any help will be appreciated.

Hey your not alone. I have trouble dealing with those people as well. Still finding a strategy against them since ours don't work on them sometimes.
By the way, I'm in need of help against Rufus. Anyone got any match-up strategies?
