I previewed this controller to some members of SRK Tech Talk at Devastation 2011. Thought I'd share the word here as well... Has anyone on SRK been keeping an eye on this project?

I'm actually pretty pumped for this. The default 360 controller is great but it seems this has a chance to be better. Definitely gotta see the price though. Under $100 bucks and I'm in I'm sure.

This doesn't have programmable buttons, does it? Not a factor for me, just curious.

I already have an Onza TE version but I'm quite interested in this pad in terms of both functionality and the fact that it is an MCZ product, the thought of a tournament level CG pad for console shooters is enough to make my mouth drool

I actually like the asymmetrical placement of the sticks because I play with the middle of my thumbs. On a Dualshock I'll bump into them a lot especially if I'm turning the camera left while walking right. Too bad they didn't give the 360 controller the PS3 dpad though..

does this controller have the tiny microswitches for the buttons like pdp fight pad and onza pad? those things are great

the controller looks much better in the video then when I first looked the pad from the pic

Got to say though, from the picture provided on this thread, it'll be nicer if the sticks had more of the indent like they have on the Silver 360 controllers. I find that the dots-configuration on the regular 360 controllers wears out fast, and I lose too much of the material once it's been used a lot. Whereas the dual concave-configuration on the new Silver 360 controllers don't have that problem.

Programmable buttons are debatable, since IIRC, MLG rules suggests that you can not use programmable controllers during tournament play. (I am not sure of this, but I remember this rule back then when I used to follow MLG.) This was one of the reasons that the Razer Onza was not allowed in MLG, because of it's programmable buttons feature. But, if it's an official MLG product, they might only have this controller as its exception.

As for microswitches on the pad, yes please~! I would love to have microswitches on the pad.

If you can't wait for the PS3 version, you can always get the Saitek Cyborg Rumblepad which features similar dpad/analog swapping technology.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask Mark, are the Cyborg and MLG pads on the same PCB?

Nope, this is new; from the ground up.

Very interesting peripheral, unfortunately the buttons themselves are not replaceable as far as I can see (and are still membrane-based).
However, it's good to see that Madcatz are not resting on their laurels and are working hard to get proper tools for top players accustomed to game controllers.

Hey Markman, got a question for you about this controller.
So the analog and d-pad modules move the d-pad and analog sticks around. What would happen if I plugged in three analog modules or two d-pad modules in?

Simple.

D-pad modules will only work in the left two spots. And they will both register as d-pads.

The analog modules would do the same. If it's one of the two left spots they will both be left analog. In the right spot, right analog.

I thought someone mentioned that there buttons are microswitch based like the razer onza or pdp versus pad not 100% sure though

They are not microswitches. We wanted both the PS3 and Xbox 360 one to be equal, as such going with a microswitch button would make the controller incompatible with some games that require analog buttons.

Actually, it is similar, but not the same functionality.

It is common ground. I showed it off to the Tech Talk crew earlier this year at an event. an MC Cthulhu will fit in the grip areas, but you'd have to take out the vibration motors.
