    Hey all first post here. A little off topic but this is the closest thing I have found on the net to what I am looking for. I am making a custom pc case and I am using a dmx controller and led strip lights for the majority of the lighting. I also need a breakout with about 20 4 pin headers that will function the same as a rgb led strip to terminate 20 single rgb leds. Anybody have any ideas

    So I'm finally getting a ps360+ (about a year after getting my sparky and leaving it in a container)
    Now i have to refresh my brain as to how the heck it all hooks up.
    Using what you told me last time, does this look right?:

    I think I have it all good apart from the + and - on the sparky, does it work like this?
    and the other pins are for the programing breakout thing yes?

    Is their any hints about connecting this, Arc Eye 2's, and a MC Cthulhu+Imp setup? Trying to figure out the next step after daisy chaining the Arc Eye's together.

    I am at a complete loss as to where to go from where I am. I have troubleshooted every way I could think of but still cannot come up with a reason as to why my LEDs will not light. I have followed the guide video to what I believed to be perfection and have checked every lock and connection and still cannot understand why my LEDs will not light. The actual stick and buttons all function fine, however there is nothing coming from the LEDs, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I'm up for anything as I am not sure what to do now : (

    I tried upgrading to sparky 3.0, only P2 and K1 would light up when connected but wouldn't light up on button pushes.
    downgraded back to 2.0, I can change all the colour combinations (P1+K1, P2+K2, etc) but not individual buttons (P1, K1, etc) and can't even change the default colours for these. Any ideas why this would be happening?

    I have the exact same problem. If I unplug the sparky power/RGB header everything works fine. If I connect it I get the 2-button light up problem you noted and my computer reports button 3 stays pressed on the control joy.cpl.

    I only tried to upgrade because things went wonky after trying to configure with the 3.0 configurator. While I was using the color picker and such, the buttons would light up what seemed like randomly and not the color I was picking. After I hit save and turned the joystick on, I got some of the colors, but it didn't seem like all of it was what I picked.

    I tried to downgrade back to 2.0 but I get compile errors in the arduino IDE.

    I have the Sparky PWM SMD from Focus Attack.

    I'm having an issue with the Sparky PWM from FocusAttack, when hooked up to Uila LEDs and an Akiship PS360+.

    When I initially tested it with one button, scotchloking everything together, it worked great. Registered the presses, etc. Now that everything is in, only K2 is lighting up, and it goes from blue, to purple, then off. Then K3 and K4 have a faint red glow to them, and are constantly on.

    Did I wire something wrong? Should I forego the scotchloks?

    Thanks!

    Will do. It's most likely my wiring though - I'm redoing it while watching SCR and now I'm getting 1p and 2k lighting up blue and purple on startup, and then 3K/4K being dimly lit afterwards.

    *Edit*

    Downgraded to 2.0 Firmware, now all my buttons light up white and don't change or turn off at all. Which, isn't a bad effect because my stick is black / white / blue colored, but still...

    *EDIT 2*

    Downgraded to 1.0 Firmware, got the Red, Yellow, Freeze issue with the lights. Looked at the code. The check for the Red, Yellow, then go to the next set of options (checking if any buttons are pressed) looked like it was the bottleneck. I added the start=true parameter you find a couple of lines down, and it then went to green and worked perfectly.

    I can also use the 3.0 Configurator with it, provided I don't set any multiple presses, etc.
    Which is fine by me, cause I can code those. No worries.

    Worth the effort - it looks great! But gosh, the 3.0 code would not work no matter what I did.

    *EDIT 3*

    In the Sparky 1.0 Arduino code, I changed line 250 to this:

    this->press(4, yellow);this->press(5, yellow);this->press(6, yellow);delay(1000);this->release();run = true;

    not sure if this dead since last answer was to email the support. ok i got the sparky pwm smd with uila led flash, followed the install by nerrage on YouTube even triple checked everything. I checked older posts for an answer to my problem but couldn't find one. So like i said i have everything hooked up correctly by the videos standards, i scrapped thos stupid snap lock things and just soldered everything together. so heres what happens when i plug in (sorry its a mvc2 madcatz TE) the L, M and H kicks light up red then goto green and stay on green solid. no others light up when pressed, the ones lit up don't changed either when pressed. this thing is driving me crazy any suggestion? I've also emailed focusattack support but no response yet... is it possible that the board was not programmed right or something like that? bad LEDS? any help is appreciated. thanks

    I'm not sure what to do at the moment. I have read every post in this thread. Have tried verious things...the results I get are totally flipping random. I started with the 1-3k red to yellow problem. Eventually I hit the comment about having the ground/signal wires backwards on the strip and tried that. That made my other buttons light up but I still couldnt program anything to be what I wanted it to be. I have uploaded v3 v2 and v1 and none seem to make much of a difference. I can not program my buttons with any of them as far as I can tell and...I dont know, I've been looking at this damn thing for hours now and I'm just tired of seeing it. I didn't buy this board to learn how to program...thats interesting to me, but I had no interest in being forced to do it with something that seemed to advertised as ready to go once its installed. I dont know if FA will take it back right now or not, but I am leaning tward that being my next step and just building a circuit that will light all the buttons 1 collor and allow me to change the color through veryable resisters. This thing is just sad heh. If anyone has any idea what I might try then I'll give it a go, but atm I am pretty bummed out about it.

    Not sure whats going on but half the links im finding are broken, videos, downloads all of that. I am having the same problems described above first the all kicks yellow then tried reflashing every version of the code that will go onto this thing, none of them are working with the configuration software i downloaded or this old version I had from when I did my last sparkypwm  install a while ago. Re did the wiring 3 times, got rid of snap locks and went to straight solder as well. with the current version of the code on the sparky I get red punches, then 2 yellow 1 green and it freezes nothing else is recognized other versions of the code will have 1 blue button on and then like faint barely visable almost looks like its frying the LEDS, this ios the point when I hooked up my other sparky and flashed that same version onto it and it did the same thing, think that was version 3.
     I looked at the part where you mentioned swapping the order of 9 10 11 to 11 10 9 or whatever and that didnt seem to work either, Im at a loss right now and spent 12 hours on this already...

    Hi TE Fightstands, Drackonos10 and I2iCk_I2oSSi,

    My apologies for the delay.  I've reviewed some of the issues reported here, and updated some of the links on the FA Sparky product description.

    I'm not a highly technical guy, so at the moment, I can point to the resources that you were finding broken links before:

    Download Sparky Configurator 3.0 from 32 Teeth's website: http://sparky.32teeth.org/downloads/Sparky 3.0 config.zip

    Official 32 Teeth Sparky PWN Jr forum thread, which is active: http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/117272/official-sparky-thread-sparky-jr-usb/p1

    I checked the videos for any that were down, but did not find them inactive.  teFightstands, can you please clarify?

    I believe that 32 Teeth or related tech team gurus can help with some of your questions.  The PWM does indeed work, but like any hardware PCB, may require some technical experience to configure.

    well that link is broken. (noticed it wasnt all hyper-linked, copy and pasted and that worked)

    If I go to sparky.32teeth.org/# and download am I supposed to use the 2.0 FA/PA version of the config? if so does it work with the 3.0 configuration you linked? I thought I read somewhere in all this that it didnt work with 3.0 but I cant find a version of the 2.0 configuration software.. I mean there is a download on his site for it but no exe file in the zip to launch, theres an index file ive tried opening with firefox and IE that does nothing but a white page with a link to sparky source code at the bottom.

    then if i try to go to the link you provide for the other thread and this thread none of the pictures work, and the text is all garbled with code
     (i know this isnt your fault just helping identify the mess)

    im not sure where the youtube playlist I was trying to follow a link from was that would bring me to the "video not found page" If i run across it again I will let you know.

    In that link is has the sparky 3.0 config software, what code to i load onto the sparky for it to work right with the version of sparky Focus Attack sent me?

    If i try to upload the sparky PDE file in there it gives me stray '#' in program error. I have also tried loading all of the versions i found on the sparky.32teeth.org/#  and tried to use the 3.0 configuration software as that is the only one i have been able to find and open,
    along with another version i had save from last time i installed one of these, but i think its the 3.0 version also?

    Cleared the eeprom dozens of times:

    Installing the 1.0 version I get
    boolean waiting; line highlighted with the error " boolean' does not name a type

    In file included from Sparky.pde:11:

    Installing the 2.0 PA/FA version I get boolean waiting; line highlighted with the error " boolean' does not name a type

    Sparky:47: error: 'class SparkyClass' has no member named 'run'

    (are these files supposed to be dropped into a directory with other files before trying to upload them to the sparky?)

    Installing the other 2.0 version I get MP HP Red then they change to a green LP and Yellow MP & HP
    configuration software does nothing to change this

    Installing the 3.0 version gets me LP lit up light blue and green and very lightly lit red in HP LK & HK  (while not being pressed)  and LP flashes when i push LK HK buttons..those buttons i push dont light up.. when I load the configuration software and change the button colors there is no change to this behavior.

    Please let me know what to do next...

    TE Fightstands.

    I'll look into some of the linking issues.  However the other forum I mentioned is part of this system.  I'm on Chrome and don't see the garbled text content you're seeing.  If you go to the last page http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/117272/official-sparky-thread-sparky-jr-usb/p19, you should see recent posts.

    This thread was more as a crowdsourcing method then myself personally being able to help troubleshoot.  We're looking into additional support contacts at the store that are familiar and could help.  As mentioned, I'm not a technical guy, and haven't actually had the chance to use the Sparky PWM in any of my own projects because of time constraints.  Others have bought it without too many issues, but it may take some feedback from 32 Teeth to better understand what configuration reset works best.

    The link I provided is mostly to point you to 32Teeth's official Sparky forum. He or someone there may have experienced a similar issue as yours.

    As of now, if you continue to have issues and are within the focusattack.com 30 day return policy, you can return it for a refund.

    Is he not available anymore?

    ..Can anyone help me re-flash it? It is currently showing 3 kicks lit up and it goes through a light sequence prior to it.

    Just a heads up. THIS IS NOT the FA Sparky Support thread.
    THIS IS

    But it's saturday, and i will be nice this time.

    Before you go messing with he onboard code. i suggest you download the configurator.
    You will need to download and install the FTDI drivers. If you are on a mac, it's automagic

    Okay - I'll check the forum post.  We haven't updated in a while so I forgot that we created a playlist specifically.

    As for 32 Teeth, I thought he would potentially have some better idea as to why the Sparky PWM might have an issue, because it was based on his design and code.  I certainly didn't mean to potentially cause issues with anyone I directed there.  I personally haven't used the PWM because I haven't had any personal time to create or modify fightsticks. Our support contact was SRK's Nerrage from Tech Talk, but he has gone MIA.  We haven't luck reaching him in weeks by email or on social networks.

    If it helps anyone out, I just received a new Sparky PWM from Focus Attack and it didn't come programmed out of the box/bag. I wired everything correctly and it would not light at all. I came to this conclusion because I have another Sparky PWM (obtained seven months back for another build) from Paradise Arcade that worked fine when I plugged it in. It's possible some of the newer ones being sent out from one or even both retailers will require you to get familiar with FTDI connections and loading the firmware to your device. I haven't had the time to try to do so yet, but I'll give it a shot soon and report my findings. It is possible that my Focus Attack Sparky (the new one) is just broken from shipping or something. Hope this is useful.

    @Trucifer - at the time, The Sparky's we purchased were the same units as Paradise Arcade, as we arranged it with them. Those were supposed to have the initial code inserted into the main chip, with no programming necessary unless you wanted to change it. That said, we can send a replacement if you continue to have issues.

    Yeah I've read that. I'm going to give this shiny new ftdi cable a try, then we'll see. Thanks for the response!

    Hi, finally registered to ask a couple questions.

    First off, I have the exact same problem as tefightstands, and used almost the same methods as he did. All attempts to correctly use 32teeths files does not work as it should. If it matters I am on Windows 7 64bit flashing to Sparky 3.0 with Audrino IDE 1.0.2. Ordered the FTDI breakout board from Sparkfun. We need support to resolve this as I think that what links/sources we are directed to is not noob friendly. The SVN repositories are not available, requires password and login. We indefinably need correct files or links to make the products we purchase from Focus Attack working as intended.

    And to Jaleel, since Lucas is MIA and I did contacted him this question, I will ask you this here. I recently purchased the Sparky PWM with some UILA flash from your store early February. All was installed fine and dandy except the scotch locks/connectors were oozing some type of goo. After watching Lucas's TE install video and reading this whole forum (someone mention biting down the scotch locks with there teeth) it would seem that liquid dispensing from the connectors should not be happening. Would you have some insight as to why this is the case with me? It may have been that the connectors have melted plastic in the inside. This would not make sense as it was cold in California and also from where your at during the time purchased so no clue.

    Thanks for listening have a good day.

    Hi Karcus,

    I cannot say for sure what is happening to the scotch locks. Unfortunately, I haven't used them before in any project, so I cannot tell what may have cuased that to happen. The Scotch locks were mainly for those who do not know how to solder the connections, and wanted to try out a solderless method. Those were added in as an optional step, not mandatory. If you can solder the connections together, you can instead try that step and remove the scotch locks. They aren't required to use the Sparky or Uilas.

    Newer scotch locks are made with goo to help keep the wires from slipping out of the "sleeve" before you lock them down and in place. They didn't used to be.

    I just received a message explaining the exchange policy to get a new sparky. Hopefully FA can help you out.

    Jaleel, yes I am capable of soldering. I was "testing" the Sparky, so I used the scotch locks. Need to whip up a new artwork before I finalize and tidy the wires to have a more professional look. Oh and let me give you props for catering to us with your store. I was reluctant to purchase arcade products until you arrived. Speedy services IMO.

    Trucifer, thanks for the heads up. I feel more comfortable now knowing that it is not a mishap but a manufacturer change.

    Anybody have luck or any links to get a working Sparky 3.0 firmware? Perhaps even a better firmware with more effects and support. I wish I never tried to update because the FA/PA firmware was working great with the Sparky 3.0 Configurator minus the capability of changing multi color and single button colors simultaneously. It does not save/upload to the Sparky (seem to only work with one or the other). I was able to flash the Sparky 2.0 firmware from 32teeths website and use the configurator to change the colors to my liking. The only drawback with this method...the button that you press would cause it to not light up, instead all other buttons express the colors you chose. Although it is a cool effect, I want to go back to the original FA Sparky firmware or the 3.0 version.

    Meanwhile I will study the firmware to see what code/s I can change to manipulate functions pertaining to the way the buttons light up. Luckily there aren't many lines to the Audrino files but I am no programmer/coder. Will post results if I find something interesting or helpful when using 32teeth's normal 2.0 files and the 3.0 configurator.

    Guys,

    I understand your frustration on things not working as they should. To be sure, we have sold about 200pcs and only a few were exhibiting problems as any manufactured PCB can, but we will do our best to accomodate any requests for defect returns.

    Our support team is coming back online in early April. The team will consist of John Wade (aka DaRabidDuckie), and Matt Gummo (aka Gummowned) from Team Tech Talk. They should be able to help you with questions about the Sparky if 32Teeth is unable or does not have the time. Originally this thread was to crowdsource for support because I am personally not technically proficient to answer questions here.

    If anyone has other questions about their purchases made within our 30 day return policy, please send them to service@focusattack.com. Thanks!

    well messing around i was able to get them all to light up white, that better than kicks 1, 2, and 3 lighting up red then green and staying on. But since i have colored rims it looks halfway decent and will work for now until we get some answers.

    I am using windows 7 32bit and i have a sparky from focus attack with uila flash leds.

    ill try to make this easy to follow as i can on what i did.

    first off i went to http://sparky.32teeth.org/ click on downloads then click on arduino. download both 2.0(fa/pa) and the 3.0 files. and also the arduino ide if you have not already.

    open up the sparky 3.0 and the sparky 2.0 (paradise arcade) folders and put them side by side.

    In the sparky 2.0(paradise arcade) >sparky folder delete the file "sparkyclass.h"

    now from the sparky 3.0> sparky highlight and drag the files "sparkyclass.h" , "sparkyclassEEPROM.h" , "sparkyclassevents.h" , "sparkyclassprogrammingmode.h" and "sparkyclassutility.h" and drop them in the sparky 2.0 (paradise arcade) > sparky folder.

    open up arduino under tool select your port you are hooked up to. goto File>Open>Sparky2.0(paradise arcade)>sparky>sparky.pde and select that pde file.

    once open click on the verify check-mark if no errors pop up then click the upload arrow next to it.

    I was also having that "not in sync" problem and if i unplugged everything from the sparky board except the FTDI USB cable that sync problem went away. Once everything was plugged back into the sparky all my buttons lit up white, but i still cannot get the configuration 3.0 to do anything for me... as i would like them to light up certain colors when pressed...

    Sorry for any improper grammar and whatnot. i was never very good in english classes..

    My fight stick is a TE (mvc2 art) with full plexi with art work on it (from tek innovations) its not put back together in the picture, was just to show the lighting. buttons are the Seimitsu PS14, 8 smoke plungers with 4 smoke rims and 4 button match colored rims.

    I2iCk_I2oSSi,

    Thanks for your help in explaining what you did to get things functional. If what is happening here is a defect, then we'll work to resolve that for you. The Sparky LED controller should have a default set of properties that light up upon certain button press combinations. That doesn't appear to happen with your Sparky upon first installing it, which may indicate a defect. Up until recently, we had no reports of this issue. However, we can send a replacement and return label for the existing one you have, so you can try to use another. If you choose to, please create a defect return request using the instructions here http://www.focusattack.com/pages/Shipping-&-Returns.html. I was hoping that the 3.0 files would assist with fixing any outstanding issues. Have you tried reverting back to 2.0?

    Jaleel, there are no defects on the sparky. The problem unveils when trying to flash 32teeth's 3.0 firmware. When updated the led doesnt work as it should. Unable to change colors being the main argument. Its a shame as I am pretty sure people who try to upgrade to 3.0 only do so to gain better compatibilty with the configurator. Only the author has seem to abandoned the FA/AP version of his sparky on his site. Ones that are able to flash to a better firmware are the ones who have acessed to an SVN repository. Reflashing to the FA sparky version is not working because the files on 32teeth's are incomplete. What we been asking for is to either get our sparky to be 3.0 or be able to revert back to stock firmware.
    Would anybody be able to give us in need, access to a working firmware?[img][/img]

    That's unfortunate. I don't know why this had happened, or if there was some miscommunication at some point between 32teeth and Paradise Arcade to which the firmware's been left for nought, or that he felt we were inconveniencing him. I hadn't spoken to him in a while. I will try asking if 32Teeth can simply provide a copy of the downgraded firmware if he does not have the complete files to 3.0.

    I received a note from 32Teeth explaining how to access and restore the 2.0 firmware:

    "http://sparky.32teeth.org/

    click downlaods,

    select arduino under 'old stuff'

    on the right hand side, there is a 2.0 (FA/PA)

    Screen%20Shot%202013-03-18%20at%2010.34.43%20AM.png

    ---

    the FA/PA firmware was built before Arduino went 1.0

    download the zip

    change Sparky.pde to Sparky.ino

    line 7 of SparkyClass.h

    change #include "WProgram.h" to #include "Arduino.h"

    compiles and works

    **note**
    1. Keep the Sparky folder as is
    2. Do not move Sparky.pde/ino out on its own"

    We will work on compiling the original firmware so others can restore it quickly, but this should help for now. I've asked where we could get the 2.0 configurator. Awaiting a response.

    yeah when i first installed it, once plugged in kicks 1 2 & 3 would light up red then goto solid green and no others would light up on push. as for the 3.0 upgrade i was never able to even get it to compile on arduino so i erased the eerpm or whatever its called and put 2.0 on there again and then punch 1 would light up solid blue with no others lighting up on push. i will fill out that form you talked about and also i tried that last thing you posted from 32teeth but it didn't do anything to what i already had done and it still doesn't respond to the configurator. thank you for your help.

    Tried out the above. The code compiles and does upload to Sparky. Unfortunately the LEDs are lit white. After un/replugging the buttons do nothing when pressed. It just stays white. Configurator has no effect in changing the colors, nor is messing with manually changing the color codes in Arduino.
    Thanks for helping.

    Okay - sorry about the problems, folks. At this time, it's possible that the Sparky units you received are defective, and should be replaced. I'll honor those replacements through the return requests you place at the store.

    Guys, I figured it out! How to get 3.0 firmware to work. It was so stupid but simple. Open Arduino with admin rights. Go to the sparky file for the 3.0 firmware and load it. Open the second tab "SparkyClass.cpp". On line 39 add two "//" in front of "#define SparkyJrUSB" to comment it out. Now go two lines down and delete the "//" on "//#define SparkyJrv3".
    Or copy and paste over the following on line 39.

    //#define SparkyJrUSB
    //#define SparkyJrFTDI
    //#define SparkyJrv2
    #define SparkyJrv3
    //#define SparkyJrShield

    This should compile and work with Configurator 3.0.

    Basically we had to set the board that we have...I feel so stupid that I overlooked this many times thinking that it was automatically detected.

    P.S. I forget to mention that you will also need to change the the RGB code. If you don't do the following, the Red Green and Blue LEDs will be reversed.

    Also in the "SparkyClass.cpp" tab just a couple lines down. You will see the below code. Where it says int rgb_pins[3] =, make sure that the number is just like below (11,10,9). The file from 32teeth's site will display 9,10,11 which is wrong. He did mention this on a previous post 1 page back, over a year ago. The code to change is on line 81.

    // Sparky Jr v3
    //
    #ifdef SparkyJrv3
    int output_pins[8] = {18,17,16,15,14,13,12,8};
    int rgb_pins[3] = {11,10,9};
    int input_pins[8] = {0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7};
    #endif

    Here's a diagram I came up with for wiring the sparky to uila and ps360+. I posted it elsewhere on the main page but wasn't sure if its the right place for it.
