Requiem was okay in a B-movie sort of way. Funny how the AvP $2.00 comic books DESTROY the multi-million motion picture productions though...

I agree that the Predators shouldn't be in the movie or have anything to do with the Xenomorphs origins/creation.

    However regarding the Xenomorphs origins
Either they're biological WMDs or an experiment gone haywire being their origin is about the only way I can think of an origin for them @_@

Trust me. You have a lot of leeway when it comes to interpreting the Alien or even the Predator. Just read those Dark Horse comics. Some of the best ideas were never used in those movies.

This is really, really good. If you ever wondered what if Fox made a sequel to Aliens that was completely different from the Prison Planet idea in Alien 3, this is something you need to check out. It follows the adventures of Hicks and Newt (later renammed for continuity reasons to Wilks and Billy, seriously) immediately after the events of LV426. Tons of shit happens from a cult that worships the Alien being responsible for the creature spreading throughout the galaxy, Hicks and Newt go back to LV426, I believe they go to the homeworld (I could be wrong, it's been awhile) , encounter the Space Jockey, the company capturing the Alien and trying to weaponize them.

Great stories, abso-fucking-lutely fucking amazing artwork that blows away most modern comics with some of the best Airbrushed artwork I've ever personally seen in a comic. And gory as hell. If you are a fan of the Alien franchise I would say it's a requirement to read at least the first Omnibus.

From there I recommend: Aliens Omnibus Volume 3 (there's a story exploring the idea of a King Alien being the result of a genetic experiment, and it has one of the best miniseries Labyrinth), Predator Omnibus Volume 1, and AVP Omnibus Volume 1.

The Predator comics tended to be on the bad side and a majority of them wrote the Predator as just an evil alien hunter that kills unarmed humans. Total opposite of the bad ass Anti-Hero with a code of honor from the films.

Yeah, like I said, it's amazing that $2.00 comics absolutely blow anything that Hollywood has come out with out of the water when it comes to Aliens/Predator lore. Hell, even the "silly" stories like Mondo Pest > Hollywood films.

Horrible quality teaser that'll get taken down any minute now
A PG13 rating shouldn't scare anyone, if you know Scott, you'll have the unrated directors cut/shitload of special features DVD edition.
Adult content isn't something you can turn on and off like the options menu in Mortal Kombat. A lot of movies use the R-rating that way, but others aren't as shallow. I dunno if Alien 1 would have been the metaphor for rape/aggression it ended up being, if studios were pushing Ridley for a general audience-friendly theatrical release.

Yeah, but they don't rate movies based on metaphors, they base on the holy trinity of sex violence language. Alien 1 could largely pass for PG13 these days, outside of the chestburster scene. Even Ash's breakdown would seem like tame stuff nowadays. I'm not saying Scott's gonna film a PG13 movie and add stuff to make it an R like AVP with it's added CG bloodspatters. Scott will shoot however he shoots, but I won't be bothered if the theatrical is PG13, because Scott gets final cut on all his DVDs(outside of Gladiator and Black Hawk Down anyways). I dunno, I don't really digest a movie when seeing it in the theater, I wait for the DVDs to really study them.

EDIT:The trailer has me psyched though.
  • TaitoTaito Great Thing Joined: Posts: 7,096
Sexually-oriented violence= R from the MPAA. By today's standards Ash scene would have to go, along with the chest-burst. Either way, while avoiding R is one concern, the studio's main concern would be to appeal to general audiences, and get their money back.

Any good director can work with a handicap, sure. But Alien is one of the movies where Ridley faced the least studio pressure. Maybe that's why 30+ years later Alien is considered a classic and still relevant today. And it didn't need 20 different directors' cuts to reach that status.

yeah Alien 3 had a hell of a time being made, and most people agree they dunno why. You took the original amazing movie, then James Cameron makes a fucking badass sequel that was BETTER than the original, and then the third just shit the bed.

I 100% agree that killing off everybody else but Ripley from the previous film was a slap in the face to fans of the series.

i dont know why there is so much hate for alien 3, i actually thought it was quite good. not better than 1 and 2, but still good and not as bad as everyone complains about. i mean it is fincher who directed it, that doesnt give the movie a free pass but the dude knows what he is doing and it shows.

I enjoy Alien 3.....it's not without it's problems, but I like it's grim nature, I like how Fincher shot it using so many low angles, and it's great looking movie. Eliot Goldenthal's score has some great moments, and I love the concept of the Alien being "a freight train with teeth". The steadicam Alien POV chase shots were fucking sweet too.
Hicks and Newt was a slap in the face at first....but it doesn't really bother me that much anymore. In the context of Ripley's character arc, it was a bit more interesting to see her resolved that her fate was going to be intertwined with the aliens to the very end than have her replay her role from Alien and Aliens.
The absolute main problem I have with the movie is the damn egg on the Sulaco in the opening. The logic part of me can['t stand it. The Director's Cut introduces the Super Face Hugger, but it's never really touched upon, and there's only one shot of it from about twenty feet away. But the concept of an armored face hugger that clings to the Queen's body while she's on the move would have played much better if it had been developed further. Would have made sense, the egg doesn't.

There's also a handful of effects shots where the transition between the puppet alien and the full size alien don't match at all, particularly the power shot in the medical bay where it walks up to Ripley in full view. Just looked too thin at times.

I still enjoy the movie every time I watch it though. The documentaries on it were more interesting than the other ones, even though Fox did cut all footage and interviews with Fincher before it was released because he was particularly blunt on camera about the production problems and his animosity with Jon Landau and the Fox brass.
All the documentaries have titles, "Wreckage and Rape" was changed to "The Making of Alien 3" and the documentary director removed his name from the credits over the Fincher's interviews being cut.

Man, sorry if I'm rambling, but I'm a serious Alien nut. Best. Monster. Ever.

Oh, anybody check out Gearbox's latest stuff on the Colonial Marines game? Saw a lengthy vid of it on the XBox Dashboard in the Inside Xbox section. Looks halfway decent.

I can barely remember 4, I remember the main bad guy from The Crow got killed off really early in the movie and that pissed me off.

There were a couple of memorable tracks on the Alien 3 OST, Lento being my favourite

Resurrection.......I dunno, I remember reading Joss Whedon's script and thought it had promise, but the final movie.......just had the wrong tone completely. Nothing against Jean Pierre Jeunet, as I like all his other stuff....but he just felt like the wrong choice for it. It pretty much lost me when the guy gets the Alien Kiss in the back of his head and he reaches into his own wound and pulls out brain matter or some shit. Went campy. Didn't care for the Pumpkinhead special appearance either, though the Newborn's eyes still creep me out. The film does have some nice qualities to it, but it just plays so cheeseball during the action scenes, and aside from Ripley, the characters were mostly dead weight. It's more a comic bookish movie, where the first 3 operate more in hard science fiction territory(which Prometheus looks to be returning to).
I used to blame Whedon for it's failings due to his script, but he's made no secret that he thought the final film was completely the opposite of what he was aiming for and hated it.

Danny Boyle(28 Days Later, Trainspotting) was at the top of list for directors for Resurrection, but he passed because it was treading too much familiar territory. That would have been an interesting movie.

    EDIT:
Oh, watch this too: Original Aliens Teaser from '86. Amazing trailer, get hype!

I think Alien 4 is easily the worst of the four movies. Nothing in that movie makes sense. I'm not even sure what genius saw the script and thought that it would be a good movie. Movie just makes my brain hurt.

Prometheus looks to have potential. At least on wiki, it was said that the movie isn't really supposed to be about Xenomorphs and focus on the background of the space jockey race found in the first Alien movie. I don't really think we'll see much, or any, Xenomorphs... which is fine by me.

To be honest, I think it's better this way. Alien and Aliens are among my favorite movies ever, but Alien 4, and to a lesser extent, 3, has ruined the franchise. The AvP movies didn't help either. It would be hard to reboot the franchise into the success that the first two movies were. It's possible... but it'd be really hard and would require an immense amount of acting, directing, and writing talent. I don't know if studios are going to want to spend the money or take that risk. Then again... another Resident Evil movie is being made, so I guess anything is possible.

See above paragraph, more or less. I think at this point, Prometheus being about the space jockeys is better than being about xenomorphs.

Weyland-Yutani is definitely in the film, and the catalyst for everything that follows.

Michael Fassbinder's David is an android, but he becomes something far more important - the progenitor of the human race.

The alien is a bioweapon, meant to wipe out humanity.

The creatures that evolve from humanity are called PROTOFORMS, and one of them evolves into something ALIEN fans will recognize - a STAR BEAST. What the hell is a STAR BEAST?

It was suggested that this would only turn into an ALIEN prequel in the last moments, but reading the synopsis reveals that what Fassbender said in interviews, that "ALIEN is in the film's DNA" is pretty accurate.

The plot reads exactly like something that would be a precursor to ALIEN.
The plot suggests that the Nostromo going to Zeta 2 Reticuli was planned well in advance. I'm not certain where PROMETHEUS and ALIEN fit together in the timeline, but I'd imagine that ALIEN can't be more than a hundred years or so afterwards.
