@orochizoolander Shit, didn't even need reviews for this pile of shit, people had playthroughs put up on youtube a week or so before the game was released and you could tell something was really off. I was hesitant after seeing those more than any of the reviews, even though the EGM's 9 outta fucking 10 was hilariously off the mark. I glance at reviews for a general consensus on stuff, but usually my tastes are specific enough that I know reviewers aren't going to cover a lot of game aspects anyway, so I'm generally indifferent to genre oriented reviews on stuff that I want to try anyways. Ninja Gaiden 3 was ass compared to NG1/NG2, but I didn't mind it as a game overall.....the 3s didn't scare me off cuz it's still my bag.... Hell, Yahtzee on Zero Punctuation is about the only reviewer in the world who will rip into stuff for petty annoying shit that others will gloss over. I don't know if you meant me cuz I've been extremely vocal about how shitty this game is, but trust me, the reviews for it didn't point out anything I didn't see already. Played through it twice, solo, then co-op and there is nothing redeeming about it. DmC I said I would play in the DmC thread a while ago, and while I wouldn't give 8's or 9's, the gameplay/level design was okay, but it too often felt like NT was trying to change things up gameplay-wise just to prove a point rather than thinking it was in DmC's best interest as a continuation/reboot of the series Hell the Alien Infestation DS game was a better rendition of Aliens than Colonial Marines was. Make no mistake though, the reviews didn't sway me to cancel my special edition, it was the game playthroughs. You could tell immediately that it wasn't anywhere near the demo's level of quality. THIS GAME IS FUCKING TERRIBLE. It makes AVP 2010 look like a masterpiece @Louiscipher I liked AVP 2010(only played 360 version). It was a little too old school in some of it's design, but I enjoyed the gameplay for the most part. The Aliens and Predators felt like threatening enemies as a Marine, the Predator was a little cheap with the Disc boomerang, but the game had decent amounts of tension and was suspenseful(unlike CM in any way shape or form). A bit too straightforward in alot of ways, but the 3 campaigns kept the variety up. Multiplayer was okay(I basically stopped the instant I got all the cheevos), wasn't super in depth, but playing as the Aliens was far more entertaining than I thought it would be. Fuck them Predator Invisible Disc spammers though. Last Man Standing or whatever on that shifting Pyramid stage was pretty tense though. I always wound up being the One Marine against all aliens/Predator players, which was actually pretty awesome. You could just walk around with the motion tracker out, wait for the Aliens/Predator players doing their hilarious daisy chain CQC kills(they would literally line up waiting for the QTE) and then Pulse Rifle the whole group. Won so many matches as Solo Marine lol. Man this thread is all fucked up format wise......

I wonder why so many people disliked that AvP game released a few years back. I don't remember any flaws besides the Predator being slightly OP.

I remember it being super fun, especially when using the alien.

Single player campaigns were okay, the Alien part was the briefest and a little buggy. The complaints came from the multiplayer being terrible especially when compared to AVP2 released by Monolith in 2001.

Yeah, I was talking about the multiplayer.

I guess I didn't notice all of the bad parts.

Interesting theory as to why the Engineers tried to wipe us out - http://www.prometheus2-movie.com/community/forums/topic/26317
So everyone is wondering why the engineers would wipe out the entire population of planets ( earth), wait thousands of years for one race to become superior and then do eradicate them again.
it occured to my mind that it could be possible that the engineers are a dying race, all of them are looking the same, there are no (or none showed) females and the living engineer was dazzled by seeing Shaw, what was someone interpreted as him seeing female the first time.

so its quiet easy: the engineer race is dying, thes just survive by cloning themselves over and over again.
to 'heal' them they plant their dna on planets, hoping that superior race they are creating will turn out as 'healthy' engineers, female and male, so they can reproduce themselves naturally.

if the outcome of evolution is not similar to them they wipe it out with the xenomorph and start over.
they have to different 'teams' to accomplish this, one is flying across the universe, seeding life, the other one follows the path of the first one, checking planet for planet, if their plan succeded, if not they release the xenos. this would explain the two kinds of spaceships and the enormous amount of black goo they are carrying.

excuse the mistakes and please let me know what you think about my theory.

Just don't let Lindelof write the death scenes, if he's involved. Wonder how they're gonna do this though, are Shaw and David just gonna go to the Engineer homeworld by themselves....?

    HR Giger dies aged 74

The Swiss artist and designer of Ridley Scott's Alien, H. R. Giger, has died aged 74, Swiss media has reported.

The Neue Zuercher Zeitung newspaper said he died of injuries sustained in a fall.

Born in 1940, Giger was best known for his 'Xenomorph' alien in Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece for which he won a visual effects Oscar in 1980.

He studied architecture and industrial design in Zurich and was known for creating strange dreamscapes.

Giger described his style as "biomechanical".

One of his pieces in particular - Necronom IV - inspired the titular alien killer in Sir Ridley's hit film.

He also worked on Aliens 3 (1992) and, more recently, appeared in a documentary about director Alejandro Jodorowsky's unmade film of the book Dune.

In 1998, he opened his own museum in Gruyeres, Switzerland, which alongside his own paintings and sculptures, displays works from his own art collection from the likes of Salvador Dali, Dada and Ernst Fuchs.

His work has also been exhibited around the world, including recent retrospectives in Hamburg, Germany, Moscow and Istanbul.

    FUCK!

Damn, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. HUGE inspiration on media. Fuck, where would Japan be if they couldn't steal from him? Fuck. I knew he was an old man but I was hoping he had a few more years left.

Honestly I thought he passed away years ago, until there was talk about him and Prometheus. Still sad news, can't think of an artist that has had more of an effect on entire generation of sci-fi and horror movie lovers.

There are artists who have had their impact on fantasy, space opera sci-fi, etc. like Frazetta, Syd Mead, Moebius. Giger and Alien 1 pretty much defined the past 35 years of creature horror.

Neil Blomkamp revealed some concept art for an Alien movie project that he worked on in the past.

note the Master Chief helmet, after Elysium I'm glad he didn't make a Halo film, he's the wrong person for the job.

The concept art is cool but seeing what they were going for, i'm not into it.

Probably couldn't have been worse than Prometheus.

After Alien Isolation proving itself to be fucking awesome, i'm okay if that turns into a series and becomes the only continuation the Alien series gets for a while.

I liked the idea behind this Alien movie. Would have had them take the whole Derelict spacecraft, and just put it on Earth, and had Weyland-Yutani fuck with it (I'm guessing that would also lead to the demise of Weyland-Yutani). Seeing Hicks back in action, with his burned up face, sounded great, too.

The fact that Ripley was planned to be involved in it in any way is what turns me off.

Her story should have ended after Aliens IMO, her character feels like a dead horse that no longer needs beating.

she needs a proper sendoff. She hasn't really stopped Weyland-Yutani at all, she just keeps killing aliens. She needs to basically end WT for good, and kill some aliens, then retire from the series. I'd hate for her last outing to be Alien Resurrection.

    Resurrection never happened.

I have successfully erased most of that movie from my mind and i'm forgetting more about it every year.

    An unsalvageable piece of garbage.

Ripley was a hard woman with a hard labour job that happened to continually be the victim of a very horrifying circumstance. There also isn't any way or reason for her to be able to take done mega-corporation Weyland Yutani and she shouldn't be able to. That's a (admittedly badass) woman with no high-reaching connections or super-human abilites trying to take down a extremely powerful and far reaching company that can very easily have her taken care of with their endless supplies of money and man power. This isn't Robo-Cop taking on OCP, this is a normal ass lady who has seen some shit trying to take on a far reaching(like, on multiple planets far-reaching) super corporation.

Futility is nice in movies sometimes, especially when it makes sense, not everything needs a happy resolve.

I'm ready for something new with the series, someone new.

She let's the derelict ship (being kept at WT headquarters) full of aliens go and infect all the high level scientists and CEO's and executives, yeah that might kinda fuck the company up a little. Especially considering some of the pics show Ripley using the Space Jockey equipment. Hell, she could just let news leak about whats been going on. You seem to not realize how easy it is for big companies to fail, due to some bad publicity.

It was established in later movies that Weyland-Yutani went under, so this isn't exactly a far stretch.

No way are WY keeping that shit at their headquarters lol. Thats going to be on some remote moon, with high level military security, ready to be nuked out of the f-ing sky with everyone still on it (like Janek described in Prometheus). They have plenty more Space Jockey ships now thanks to the Prometheus mission.

How is she going to leak news, she isn't Snowden, she just knows how to fly a mining spaceship and kill aliens, she's also been asleep for 100 years or so, she knows nothing of Earth. Her single handedly taking down a multi trillion dollar company is impossible. All the Governments of the world would be heavily invested in Weyland, Governments probably fall without Weyland, just like the banks today, WY is too big to fail.

While there are plenty of things that are wrong about that(The Furious One already went over them), the worst thing is that their HQ is undoubtalby on earth(though there is no way in hell they'd be keeping the derelict there), and crashing a hive of Xenomorphs into it would lead to the planet being wiped out within weeks.

Also, Weyland-Yutani collapsed then reemerged with almost even more power than before, according to the wiki.

I can't support this film if it's going off of that concept art.

There really shouldn't be any more Ripley, her story has been told.

Especially not if she's going to be hooked into a bunch of alien bullshit. Putting an queen inside of her was a stupid fucking idea, cloning her with alien DNA was a stupid fucking idea, and having her wear an alien suit is a stupid fucking idea.

Why can't this movie just be about a normal person against an evil corporation and a species of living weapons.

I'm not sure, absolutely hated Elysium, Chappie doesn't look like anything special just retreading old ground. He wouldn't have been in my top 5 directors for the Alien franchise.
I'm really worried about Prometheus 2, Ridley just seems to have completely lost it, I liked Prometheus but it's plagued with issues and Exodus was terrible.

Blomkamp is probably the best bet to give this movie the greatest chance of both success and fan acceptance imo. His movies just capture that Aliens vibe, the way he can mash together mecha action and human drama is top tier, nobody has gotten the balance as perfect as him in movies yet.

Might not like some of his stories, but if he can run with decent Alien lore and keep his action style I think it will turn out (visually at least) very good. Depending on what characters get used and to what extent will determine how good of an actual movie it will be.

I thought Prometheus was a catastrophic failure, I rate it lower than the AvPs, the only thing they did right was the look of the Engineers and that shit was already laid out for em, if this new movie needs to shit over anything established by it, then so be it.

Ripley wont be back, I would love to see Newt replace her but she is defo dead in the EU, Hicks is very much alive somewhere in the universe though thanks to Colonial Marines (lol it came in handy) and having him to come back to tear up shit would make an insane movie.

Or is this thing another reboot? :D

Elysium was "meh" and Chappie looks shitty in every possible regard.

    District 9 was a solid 7.5/10

I don't know how involved he is in the writing and idea process, but hopefully he hires some people that are better than he is.

I have no faith in this movie, I'm just going to end up crying into my plush face hugger and playing Alien: Isolation DLC.

I doubt it'll have as much bullshit as surrounding it as Prometheus(which IMO was a bunch of fantastic ideas mashed together terribly) but there is nothing here that even get's me remotely hype for this.

Maybe Sigourney, but Sigourney make everything better.

I dunno, Blomkamp is better choice than say, hiring the director of snow white and the huntsman to do Ghost in The Shell anyways lol. But much leftover Halo angst it seems...

District 9 had the style and alien effects
Elysium was literally set on a Halo ring
Chappie has non-human protagonist done in CG(kind of like seeing if MC never taking off the helmet in Halo movie woulda been made)

Prometheus 2....man i wish David had just said "there's another ship" and the movie just cut to black lol. Gonna have a hard time reconciling that ending short of saying Charlize was a android and she hiding away from planet with more dudes. Don't think David and Shaw could carry a movie by themselves.

Also, after studying prometheus for a bit...it seems to fall victim to an issue i have with Ridley's movies sometimes....willing to sacrifice story and character for an overall flow and rhythm in editing, even if not to the benefit of the movie
