Sanwa developing silent buttons & joysticks

Just read this on twfighter.com. Apparently you can buy samples from them but it's probably already sold out.

If it has the same functionality as a JLF then they should be on to a winner.

Wonder what microswitches they're using.. and if they would fit inside anything else...

    Sounds interesting,
I do wonder about how they'll neutralize the sound from pushbuttons, I would imagine that most of the sound comes from the plunger being smashed down, sadly I won't be able to look at the site until I get home from work.
If theres no drop in performance, I'm sure it'll be a welcome change, I for one have never really had problems with noise though.

The 'click' sound comes from the two metal contacts snapping. You can see this in action if you gently prise the top off one of the JLF microswitch cases. Opening them up is also the best way to clean them.

Sanwa may be trying out a different circuit switch for this product, hence the lack of a snap sound.

    Hmm, interesting bit of news.
For me, SF4 got fighting games backward - combos are supposed to be easy and reversals are supposed to be hard.

A non clicky stick that's not an optical? That is interesting...

On that site, what was that greyish button? Metallic? pearl?

Oh, I know that most of the sound from the stick comes from that, but buttons are what I was talking about, those switches are very quiet as is, and the thread title mentions them producing silent buttons as well...

^ Yeah, I could not see anything about silent buttons in that link, just the joystick.

Unless I missed something then it would help if the title was edited.

The post I read on twfighter mentions the sample bundle being one silent stick + 8 silent buttons, though the poster admits there's no definite info on the buttons yet.

Also, I think the page indicates the microswitch lasts 5 times longer.

And the thing sells for 4830 yen (~$62 USD). Sample bundle price though, not that surprising.

Send your opponent home to be a family man, with a stick that has the perfect parts for a family man.

Interesting. I don't mind (and actually kind of enjoy) the sound of Sanwa parts as they are, but there are certainly times when having a more quiet stick would be useful, such as on trains or even airplanes, or for those who need to keep quiet in their homes.

Was it "Sanwa has apparently heard about the issue"?

I would love silent parts, but I don't think they'd help quiet my fists slamming the stick, or the stick slamming the floor. Maybe I should invest in some fluffy gloves and pillows...

    Falcon punch?
Not really sure how much can be done with the buttons, the microswitches can be silenced but you're still going to hear the plastic rattle around. Can't wait to be proven wrong though.

The Sanwa buttons do not make so much noise compared to the other buttons in market, the "plastic" it´s softer, I´ve got here in front of me the WWE brawl stick and this buttons are made of a rough cheap hard plastic.
I think that the material used in the construction of the buttons makes the difference, I put the Sanwa buttons side by side with the MadCatz buttons and they are aesthetically identical but differ on the feel!
So I believe that the new Sanwa buttons are less noisy due to the material used in their manufacture!

This is pretty dope. So if I order these I am obliged to leave a comment/ testimonial?

It's funny how I see this on the ffront page the day after I was scolded for being too loud.

Hopefully we get news on an ETA. If I dont see anything within the next month then I'm definitely ordering.

    Interesting.

I have some very silent microswitches with hinges, so it makes sense that's what they did to the stick.

I'm more curious to find out exactly how "silent" the buttons are.
I have a feeling they won't be true to the definition of the word, but I'd like for them to get it pretty close.

Wow, that video was very impressive. I really just want to know what type of feeling the buttons will give now with the new material for dampening the sound.
