    On how frame data works:
(I know the simple stuff like -4 on block is generally unpunishable, +7 on hit is great etc)
I was looking at one of my character's frame data. (Heihachi)
Something I know from a while ago from his trials, his cr.mp links to itself fairly easily IMO. Its +7 on hit. The startup is 6 frames. I was thinking that was a 1 frame link but it seems wayy too easy so i knew i was off. And another thing how is it a true blockstring if its plus +3 on block and a 6 frame startup. I feel like im missing/misunderstanding something small and if i think about it it'll click. Like i don't know how a 3 frame jab is classified as a 3 frame jab(Like Balrog's was/or is in sf4, or cody's cr.lk in this game)
Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

    Hmm I guess nobody noes

    - It's not, it's a 2f link. An example of a 1f link in this game would be linking Nina's far.mp into cr.mk or cr.hk.. (far mp is +7 on hit, cr.mk and cr.hk are 7f startups)

And another thing how is it a true blockstring if its plus +3 on block and a 6 frame startup?
-Again, it's not. If that information is correct there's a 3f gap between punches on block, true blockstrings are air-tight.

how a 3 frame jab is classified as a 3 frame jab
-3f jabs are classified as such as they start up in 3 frames. (ie. cody's cr.lk currently becomes active on the third frame, hence it's a 3f startup)

How many points of special is there in a single bar of meter? Working some things out with Motivation and Resolution gems.

What is the deal with jumping and how can I do it more effectively like everyone else? I used to get by thinking jumps were just something you did as a means of getting in or on oki or to form a cross up, but the best times to jump are really after you laid down some blockstrings that give you free frames to jump for a bit, right? I suppose I'll need to learn which strings best lead to jump ins and cross up attempts, since that stuff seems too basic for anyone to ever list in forums.

400 in one bar. 1200 full meter.

yeah so i read the Brady guide and it says that any use of a JUMPING NORMAL adds 2 frames (of non-cancellable) recovery upon landing. Thereby does this kinda makes traditional SF4 safe-jumps not possible in SFXT???? I would assume this means that basically if your safe jump is good against 4 frame reversals, using a jump normal makes it a 6 frame safe jump at best. To have a true 4 frame safe jump it must be an empty jump, which defies the point, because you could make a jump safe to ALL reversals, but you would not be successful landing a jump normal. However i know that timing and move priority is different in SFXT so im sure its not as bad as it sounds, and its still possible to do safe jumps simply due to the (lack of) auto-correction of reversals, and roll recovery timing etc...
I always thought safe jumps were generally safe. I haven't noticed any difference at all in that regard. I have been punished for jumping and not pressing buttons when I land though. It all makes sense now.

Cross rushes certainly have their place, doing it at the right time and eliminating recoverable health or scoring a KO with it is very important. Cross Assault in 1v1 isn't really worth the bar unless you really need to even out the health or if you are controlling a character with a O-2 frame super and kill off a punish.
Cross Assault in 2v2 is the comeback factor everyone wished the game had and actually has >>

I think you mean the difference between a Cross Assault and Cross ART. Cross Rush is the official term of LMHH or ABC launcher.

They are both usefull, depends on the situation. When fighting an opponent who's character has a lot of grey life, you can cripple your opponent using a Cross Art (team super). Use a Cross Art if it forces a severe blow to one of your opponents characters or to confirm a kill. Cross Assault evens out your characters lifebars. You can make it safe by doing a super, so your CPU partner doesn't get hit and loses life. Great to use on wake up too if you're under pressure and want your second character in.

A friend of mine that floats around here, Don Wulong, does this a lot with his Hugo team to punish my attempts to pressure him after a knockdown whenever I get too aggressive, lol. It's really, really annoying to go from a huge life lead and almost killing a character, to now losing 50% on my point character (shoutouts to having 900hp), losing the life lead, and him suddenly having two characters at like 90% life. :bluu:

You can also combo into Cross Assault if you need instant access to your partner's super and need to switch, or use it as a way to punish things your point character can't. With Gief as an anchor, for example, with full meter you suddenly have access to a 0 frame command grab super that will also average out your health. That's pretty ridiculous.

Sorry for the double post, didn't want to over-bloat the last one.

Another aspect of Cross Art to look at - though hard to manipulate - is that if you catch a character that's trying to switch out with a Cross Art, not only does that character take the full attack and lose their recoverable health... their switch is also canceled. Hella hard to manipulate right now, but it can be done.

I imagine it'll be easier with the DP >> tag nerf coming in v2013, plus the slight damamge boost that Cross Arts will get too. O__O

Other than that, Cody&Guy18 pretty much hit the importance of it: cripple a character or guarantee a kill.

    i know 2 ways:
1)you can go to Street Fighter x Tekken\stream\CMN\battle\sound\bgm
and replace all files with 0:00 sound or smth. or just replace them with blank files.
2)you can go to Street Fighter x Tekken\resource\CMN\boot\game
    open const.lua with notepad
find bgm= section and remove it entirely.

create a backup of any file you modify, just in case. but i think this should work.

and before anybody asks, no, its impossible to put your own music in pc version of sfxt.

    try doing the same with
    Street Fighter x Tekken\stream\CMN\ui\sound
but i am not sure that it'll help. i cant find any other files tho.

you can also try messing with
    Street Fighter x Tekken\resource\CMN\ui\sound
look for BGM_MAIN and other BGM related files.

So up until the game's release I had set in stone that my team would consist of Poison/Lili, but now I'm having second doubts. I'm somewhat new to the fighter scene and I'm just confused on what team is exactly the best team for me. I was thinking of going with Nina/Heihachi...but I don't know if that's a good team or not. I could really use someone's opinion on my choices.
Hey I can't say that i'm a SFxT pro obviously because I came here looking for help too lol, but I know from past fighting game experience that your approach is wrong (I used to look for a team based on how good it would be in MVC3). You should create your team on what characters you like (even if they are low-tier) and worry about compatability later. Just have fun and find two characters that you like :)

Im having a lot of problem playing this game. Im in Europe and the idiotic online setting seems to be that you can only search for a fight, nothing else. No lobbies, no names, just "Ranked Match" and then wait.

The thing is, I'm often ( as for instance this very moment) I'm stuck waiting forever. Literally, it goes on until I stop it, minutes later.

Rarely do I find a fight and when I do, the connection is bad. Meanwhile SF4 fights work perfectly. I get tons of greens all day long.

    What could be going wrong?

Ever since the update integrating the vita users to the search pool i can't find barely any good lobbies. I have to search ps3
& Ps vita. I find ranked matches in seconds though.
Can't give too much insight since im from U.S

Hey everyone! This isn't exactly a newbie question.. but I am looking for frame data and juggle data.

I know if can be found here: http://pandora.dantarion.com but I was wondering if it has been transcribed anywhere else? Don't get me wrong, it's freakin' AMAZING that the info is there, and it has helped me with my own Bob Data Chart for my own use, but I'm curious if there is anything else out there.. I think we would all benefit from it being in a more readable format

    Anyone?

If there isn't.. we should probably make one! (hella daunting I know lol)

Hey everyone, maybe this isn't the right thread for this question, but it is a pretty newbish one.

How conducive is this game to easing someone into its metagame for someone jumping into it right now (me)? With the 2013 patch on the way, I've payed more attention to this game than I initially did and it seems like a lot of fun. I never played much SF4, so I'm not too familiar with the game engine, though from what I hear SFxT's is more accessible, for better or worse. How's the online like? I won't have any local competition for the game, in terms of friends. Are there still people playing? What's the execution barrier like? I'm thinking of playing a team consisting of somewhere in-between Cody, Dudley, Steve and Hwoarang, the characters that jump out at me atm.

Well this is the outrageous newbie thread so no question is stupid at all. In fact I've learnt a new word because of you : conducive.

I'll be honest with you, in terms of getting someone into the metagame, you'll have to think of the game in a different light instead of just SF4 with Tekken Characters. That mentality just leads to constant losses. As you said, you haven't played much SF4 so this game should feel like a completely new experience for you.

At first the game seems pretty accessible due to stuff like boost chains and whatnot but once you get past it there's a lot more to it than that. I will admit though that the learning curve can be pretty steep if you are completely new to fighting games as you can lose really badly by making mistakes whilst you play. Such as not managing your meter properly.

I should know because I went through that phase myself as a lowly D Rank. Almost made it to D+ only for me to lose it all (twice.)

The online for this game depends on what console you play on. For the PC it's pretty dead as it hasn't been updated properly like the consoles. Both the PS3 and 360 have some good connections and there are a good handful of people still playing on the PS3 and 360. However the PS3 can play with Vita users which is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing being you can play with them and the curse being that the connections tend to be pretty bad but if you stick to PS3 to PS3 connections, you can get some good mileage off of it.

As for execution, it varies depending on who you play. The Tekken characters require some good muscle memory when it comes to using their strings as well as one frame links and some somewhat tight juggles. It varies in my honest opinion. Out of the people on that list, I'd say Steve would be the hardest to learn there then Hwoarang, Dudley and then Cody.

simple question, how do you cancel? and what are all the cancels?

lets say you have ken/sagat. you crouch + mk > (H)tatsumaki > switch (MP + MK) >sagat's super art. Is that a cancel?

[last one] is that how you cancel in all street fighter games? if not anyone can point me in the direction or show me?

[last one] is that how you cancel in all street fighter games? if not anyone can point me in the direction or show me?

Cancelling in Street Fighter is essentially cancelling a move whilst it's active or during its recovery into another move.

There are different types of cancelling but I'll only cover the 2 main ones.

    Simple Cancelling

This is pretty much the bread and butter cancel of 2D fighters to be honest. It's simply performing a move and then performing the motion of the desired move whilst that move is out into another attack. Many forms of cancel come under this category such as Super Cancelling.

Generally the flowchart for cancelling goes like this: ( '>' = cancels into)

    Normals > Specials > Supers

Of course there are exceptions to the rule depending on what SF game you play and you can even skip the 'special' part and just do a normal cancelled into a super but for simplicity's sake we'll stick to this chart here.

For normals, some characters' normals in Street Fighter games can be cancelled into specials however some cannot, it's really character specific mind you so you'll have to go and find it all out for yourself on that one.

Specials can also be cancelled into Supers but this is dependent on what SF Game you play. In SF4, specials can be cancelled into Super Combo whereas in SFxT, they can't (well at least as far as I know.)

    Switch Cancelling

In SFXT's case switch cancelling follows similar principles with Simple Cancelling only with two people. The first one does a move and then the second comes in to finish the combo/sequence off by cancelling the animation of the first move allowing the second character to finish it off.

Only in this case, the move still stays active and is still hitting your opponent allowing the second person to come in and finish it off.

e.g. the simple DP > Switch > Whatever you want.

If there's any more questions that you would like to ask, don't hesitate to either PM me or reply to this comment.

Alright. So I'm in the market to learn some new characters and was hoping for a couple recommendations.

Hwoarang is my go-to guy. But, Law just isn't cutting it as his wing-man any more. Law's still fun, but I just lose with him a helluva lot. Mainly because of dumb/lazy jackasses who only get their damage through chains and punishing with chains while sporting 3 Power Gems on each character. (I have a crack in the face of my TE1 stick the size of my fist from no less than 4 straight games of that bullsh*t).

Anyway! What I'd like is a character with some strong normals. Footsies aren't terribly high on my list, since it seems the majority of 360 SFxT players don't know what footsies ARE. I'm looking into Lili, but high mix-up characters aren't really my bag because it takes so much more mental effort to play them. And then the game stops being fun. For me, at least. Tried Nina, but kept getting my ass kicked thanks to chain punishes and me being too predictable with my mix-ups. Xiaoyu is just baffling to play, Kaz and Jin are out because I hate the Mist Step motion with a white-hot passion, and I don't do rush-down/grappling all that well.

So! Any suggestions, or tips on how I can improve in the areas I'm weak in, will be greatly appreciated.

Try Juri. Makes a great partner for hwoarang, has good buttons (cr.mp, cr.mk, st.mp, st.mk, cr.hp, f+mk just to name a few), can zone, can rushdown and since the average player doesn't know what footsies are she AA's them for damage all day.

Footsies are pretty powerful at the lower ranks im playing at. For example i sometimes put bison as my point and hwo as anchor. I can win a fair few matches just with bisons mk and hk pokes into launcher then combo.

Removed the original post in General Discussions and moved it here so that it could be answered in the future:

I remember asking this question before, but what does the Air Combo Assist gem does precisely again? It only says that it makes air combos easier, but how? Like at which point does it trigger and consume meter? I'm unable to test it since the DLCs of the PC version are still inaccessible. :(

Im having a hard time getting Bryan to do a large combo from a Juri launcher, I can only tag on three basic hits. Is there a limit to how many hits you can do from a launcher or does Bryan not have a combo set that can link from Juri's launcher?

Not familiar with bryan really but the typical limit is 4 hits.. +/- 1~3 depending on character and juggle potential...

    OK, I'll bite. I've got a few questions I'd thought I'd ask here;

    * How do I deal with people who jump all over the place. Before you say anti air, I'm talking about the type of jumping that is so close to you that it makes anti airs very difficult / almost impossible to do. I've being told it's a spacing issue on my end but is there any other tips I should be aware of?

I would very much appreciate help on this as this issue is what made me hate the game the first time around and it's a playstyle I NEVER see in ssf4evo's videos.

    * I'm too defensive, too scared to be more aggressive. This has resulted in almost all of my ranked games in v2013 leading to time outs so I'm obviously doing something wrong. You could say a combination of bad habits from SF4 and v2012 are causing my problem here. Doesn't help that any mistakes are especially deadly in v2013. Any tips in this regard?

I'm currently running Alisa / Lili if that is any use to people.

    Thanks.

    - Jumping
    - If you can predict the jump, use lili/alisa's gdlk air throws until they learn to stay on the ground.
    - AA for max dmg whenever possible (switch canceling, whatever it takes)
    - forward dash under if it's an obvious crossup
    - Block and Alpha-counter their jumping attack (loses to empty jumps and some crossups)

TL:DR, it's mostly a spacing thing... if someone is in that range where they can jump at you without fear of Anti-airs then you need to work on keeping them out of that range in the first place by either zoning better or going in.

    - Defensive/Aggressive
Best thing I can offer is to just go for it. To hell with the consequences and just play offensively. You'll probably lose a lot initially as a result until you get your spacing and setups in order but if you never try it you can't learn it. Training room really isn't enough here, need that live experience.

Step 1: Do I like these characters?
step 2: What can they do as a team? (lab work, tag cancels, safe tags, post launchers, pandora setups etc)
step 3: Do they both have the same strengths/weaknesses? If so am I comfortable with having that?
    step 4: game time! WHEEEEEEEEEE!

Hey thanks ! You did answer my question !

Seems like Ken/Hwoarang team is the one I'll be using as the mains as I feel comfortable with them and both of them have strong anti-air which I can tag around easily and have long pokes.

Thanks thanks ! Online I shall go !

How many frames are there from the start of a roll until it becomes vulnerable (and for how long), how many frames of invincibility is there on normal wakeup before you can hit the opponent, and do rolls and normal wakeups both start on the same frame?

    It depends on the character.

Being that ver2013 is out, and a majority of the combos aren't going to work and/or be practical (as well as other info, such as the BG Guide), should I go through the vanilla combos and see what will and will not work, OR start from scratch?

I'd say go through the vanilla combos first and see what doesn't work. Best bet is to visit the character forums for your character and see if it's been updated, as it seems people are slowly starting to. :-)

No official frame data for the DLC characters yet sadly. There isn't individual frame data listings that include the changes per say, but Darkphyre has compiled all the changes thus far into this one convenient thread. :)

When you do trials for a character, is that character the 2013 version? I noticed when doing Jack-X's trials that his jump medium kick had a smaller hitbox and I'm , pretty sure it got buffed. Also, where can I find a new health chart?

Per my man Blooddrunk, the trials and missions are for VANILLA mode only, (I was trying to do Guy's new JC which led me to inquire in the Guy threads.) which makes them tough to want to complete. Though, you MAY be able to use the new combo editor (which would make them easier), I will check into that in and respond.*
Imo, going through all those trials WILL build muscle memory, but if you can't even do some of the moves or combos at all then idk...

*The new combo editor WILL work with trial mode. It's insane what you can do with this new combo editor too. I'm not sure I approve, as it can allow one to create difficult to execute combos, which only cost one bar? and it would be consistent.
