Trey Martin, shot once in the chest, lay dead on this walkway just 70 yards from the home where he was staying. He was unarmed.

Sanford Police have questioned Zimmerman, but not charged him. He had a legal permit to carry his concealed weapon, a 9-mm handgun.

For now, he's a free man who maintains he acted in self-defense.

Zimmerman has admitted to shooting Martin, according to police.

Sanford Police chief Bill Lee confirms that Zimmerman was armed and Martin was not.

Lee says no one saw how or why the fight began, and that police are trying to establish whether Zimmerman did act in self-defense.

Last year my mom rented out the basement and den to my friend and his girl, they use the backdoor to get in and out so my friends and I came back to my place and went through the backdoor. A neighbor who lives like 2 or 3 houses away saw us go in and called the cops saying "suspicious people" entered the house....nigga I've been living here 18 years and you think I'm suspicious in my own house? GTFO bitch, wish I was there to see the scolding my mom gave him.

Last December my friends and I are in the parking lot of a 7-11 3 blocks from my house, they're smoking cigarettes in the car waiting for another friend to join us less than 5 minutes later a cop rolls up on us saying someone reported "suspicious activity" and that we needed to leave immediately.

I went to Hong Kong summer 2009 with my dad, step mom, step sister, and half brother who all live in AZ and as soon as we showed our passports, security escorted us to this tiny ass room filled with guards and other middle eastern families saying "we need to verify the authenticity of your passports" kept us there for 3 hours. At least those Chinese cats were up front about their racism I totally prefer that over the behind the back bitchass community racism.

Usually I don't have much of an opinion on such cases because we weren't there and don't know what happened but shit it sounds pretty obvious this was NOT in self defense lock this gun nut up for a long time please.

I live in South Chicago and I work a good 50 minutes away up north in a nice neighborhood that is majority white, at a hotel. I did the midnight launch for MW3, so I stop by my job for about an hour, go to the lobby and just browse the internet while in the corner for a little trying to wait it out. Before I left I was bull shitting around a little bit with my guy at the front desk for maybe 10 minutes.

Next morning tell me why my manager says some bitch complained, saying 2 light skinned black males(Yes she actually specified) were in the hotel making a lobby making a lot of racket. Me and my manager watch the videotape from the night before and this nigga actually apologized to me. The 2nd "light skinned black male" was actually white, and he is the bellman that works the 2nd shift. And even if, how the fuck did she jump to the conclusion that I was a random off the street and not a guest just chillin in the lobby? If you got a problem come direct with it, instead of some snake ass shit trying to be slick.

Thankfully, we know the right way to deal with cops, after explaining what happened (and telling them that WE are considering pressing charges), the cops immediately left, spoke with the asshole and his cow, and that was that.

My brother and I have so many more stories of this type of crap that we can write a book.

Sorry to hear that dude. As long as we're telling stories though, i'm big into health & fitness and usually do all my cardio walking on the road(in door treadmill stuff is boring as hell). So one day i'm out on my big walk and its only about 5:30PM, getting fairly dark out but not really.

So on the route i usually always go, this house goes from all lights out to friggin' blazing. Damn near a spotlight on my ass! Out steps this old white dude who just stares at me perfectly still as i'm walking by. Like a spider on the wall or something, just standing perfectly still, all bug-eyed and practically leering at my ass for the longest time. I want to flip him off but i decide to be the bigger man and continue on my walk. Who knows,he'd probably call the neighborhood watch or some or BS like that.

I'm a clean-cut white guy in a moderately white neighborhood/city (eh 50/50'ish i guess) BTW. Just goes to show unjust paranoia, suspicion, and overacting isn't just a racial thing.

Haha yea this happened to me a couple weeks ago when I was walking around the lake I live on. Now I'll admit it was fairly dark but still, I was walking by the woman's house who has these fucking little yappy dogs, and as I walk by she let them out, stood on the porch and death glared me while her little minions yapped at me.I had my head phones in tho so I just ignored her and her dog and kept on walking, next thing I know there is a bright light behind me. I turn around and she's following me in her fucking car! I just stop and stare at her through the window. She pulls up and begins asking me where I live, what my adress is, what my name is. Fuckin 5th degree. Couldn't believe it and I been living here for over 10 years. Christ.

I get what you're saying, like the recent situation with that "innocent" bully who threatened and taunted a 14 yo boy until he got stabbed.

True. I'm talking about the seacoast and lakes regions. All of the most racist people I've known are from southern NH and Mass.

One night, my roomate had these guys over. Mass kids all the way (Danvers, maybe). One of them gets up from his seat and says, "no nigs." He had to explain that was how they called 5s back home. "You know, because nigs are always stealing. Like, 'don't steal my seat.' No nigs."

Being white, other white people don't have to watch what they say around me. The majority of racist sentiments I've heard were while in Manchester, NH and Taunton, MA.

I'll bet pretending you're not racist gets easier with practice, with more than intermittent exposure to minorities.

I'm not saying that this is what happened here, but I'm saying that this happens sometimes and that it may have occurred here.

It is trendy, particularly with young black men, to look like a threatening, shady-ass criminal. I know I'm not imagining this. It is socially acceptable in some circles, and even fashionable, to dress and carry oneself like a gangsta doing some gangsta-ass shit.

There are many legit racists out there who will assume that any black person is out to cause trouble, period. However, there are many more people who see someone who looks and acts like a threatening, shady-ass criminal and draw the not-entirely-unreasonable conclusion that this person is a threatening, shady-ass criminal.

If this is what happened in this case, it's still absolutely no defense for the guy who killed this kid. He's a murdering cunt and he needs to be treated like one. But this is a rebuke to anybody asking, "Why do white people automatically assume black people are up to something?" Fuck. At least some of the time, you know why a white person is assuming that a black person is up to something.

Zimm was looking for trouble and an excuse to use his gun. He saw a "suspicious" character, called the police and decided to play cop after they said wait. No resident of a gated community would go any further, let alone pursue and confront the character, but not Zimm. Zimm has a gun and because of this he doesn't need to wait on the cops. That's exactly what happened. He only needed to provoke the kid, by driving so close to him he knew the kid would get frustrated and ask wtf you following me for. If you were strolling down the sidewalk and someone is following you close enough to ask for directions, you are compelled to stop or run if the windows are tinted.

Now Zimm has an excuse to get out because "he said something to me" and because he has his gun, he has nothing to be afraid. He shooting that kid the very minute he made a move after he left the vehicle. He wasn't going to let that kid go and was going do and say anything he could to provoke him so that he could act in "self-defense". Dimes to dollars, Zimm would not have left his vehicle, let alone follow the kid so closely if he didn't have a gun. Zimm is empowered with the gun and has already made up his mind that he will use it in "self-defense" if he feels "threatened.

Man remebr once when my sister started going to Elementary like a year or so after we moved to Spanaway, I go to pick her up and it's the middle of winter so I got a big ass coat on, it's black, got my hood up, and my dreades were at least 8 inches long at the time. I walk around the school to get to the front when a security guard shows up and ask me to stop. I stop and he starts asking me what I'm doing here and I tell him picking my sister up, dude freaks out and says I'm lieing out of my teeth and tries to take me off campus. I told him I aint leaving until I pick up my sister and the dude grabs my arm before my sisters and her teacher come out and vouch for me. For the longest time their would always be some shit when I would pick up my sister from school with people convinced I must be selling drugs or htinking I'm gonna kidnap their kids. It's not that surprising though, some of those kids hadn't even seen a black person till we moved down there. Hell even heard a kid ask why our skin was so dirty.

Kind of bad I walk through a "Peaceful" neighborhood worried I might get popped for looking like the wrong kind of person.

I remember when I was at my grandparents house for a family gathering after by grandfather just died, and my brother and I were walking down the street to get some fresh air and talk (Note: this is an all-white neighborhood with the exception of my grandparents). Now we weren't even saying much, just mostly walking. Suddenly the lights on one of the house's we were passing by lit up, and some white guy and what I would assume was his wife step out. He said something (I couldn't tell because his was house was good 15-20 yards away from the street).

I reply: "What did you say?"

Then I hear his say come sort of command phrase and something that looked like a black mass starts running towards us (it was dark). My brother immediately ran (as he knew exactly what it was). I was curious as to what this thing was that was coming toward me (and it wasn't large, so I didn't feel like this thing was a threat), so I stood there. Sure enough, it was a dog, but since it was chained up, it stopped well before it could reach the street. So, I yelled at the guy: "What the fuck did you do that for, you fat bastard?! Fuck you and your ugly wife!" (or something simular, I knew to make sure to insult his wife too, as she was the first one out the door and likely initially labeled us as troublemakers). He ran into the house, and his wife followed. I walked away.

I'd still would love to decapitate the both of them, not for what they did to me and my brother, but what they did to my mom. They called the cops on us, so my mom, already emotional over the death of her father, had to deal with the police telling her that her sons were being accused for trespassing. Thankfully, we know the right way to deal with cops, after explaining what happened (and telling them that WE are considering pressing charges), the cops immediately left, spoke with the asshole and his cow, and that was that.

My brother and I have so many more stories of this type of crap that we can write a book.



These types of people are so terrified of us that they wouldn't dare confront us (not without a weapon, of course).

So pathetic...and also dangerous. My brother was shot at once from one of these people, and clearly, he isn't the only one who's gotten shot at for minding his business in the wrong place...

There are many legit racists out there who will assume that any black person is out to cause trouble, period. If this is what happened in this case, it's still absolutely no defense for the guy who killed this kid. He's a murdering cunt and he needs to be treated like one. But this is a rebuke to anybody asking, "Why do white people automatically assume black people are up to something?" Fuck. At least some of the time, you know why a white person is assuming that a black person is up to something.

OK, i have to chime in here. this is NOT true and a common misconception and misunderstanding. a lot of people seem to think that the clothes you wear are what draws negative attention to yourself. while i'll admit, your garments can have an effect, the simple truth is that those who have preconceived notions about a person have them not because of the clothes on their back, but because of the skin on their flesh. in turn, because of that, the reason why some people dress the way they do is because they know garments aren't going to make a difference....therefore, why bother, just dress comfortably. ever heard that joke how a black man in a three piece suit STILL can't catch a cab in new york? well that joke has some truth to it---the incriminating factor has nothing to do with clothing...its the skin.

i know denny's may be a bad example, but that incident where 6 black uniformed secret service agents walked into a denny's and went unserved for an hour while denny's employees seated and served white customers immediately upon entry despite not being crowded at the time illustrates my point. denny's denied that the complaint was race-based, but rather size-based. that would've been a good counter argument if, 1) those 6 black agents weren't part of a 21 member group of mostly white agents, who were seated and served before them (minus the black supervisor who was seated with the white agents) and, 2)the incident didn't happen at denny's of all places.

people need to realize that more times than not, when someone or a group of people have a problem with you, it has nothing to do with your presentation. their problem with you, IS YOU.
