    Got to see it today.

Honestly, I'm giving a solid C. Lot of good shit and a lot of terrible shit. (A few bad storytelling decisions and something else that opens up tremendous plot holes in the previous movies)

Not sure if I'll see Episode IX in theaters. This one is really going to divide the fanbase.

Guys, for the first few weeks (lets say 2-3) please keep all discussion of the movie under spoiler tags. That way the people that saw it early can jump in the conversation and those waiting to see it don't get things spoiled.

The rest of you, don't fucking click on spoiler tags and then complain the movie got spoiled for you. that's not how that shit works.

Well these next few weeks are gonna be fun for this thread. I'll make sure pop extra popcorn for everyone.

Might have to watch it again to solidify my thoughts on it. But so far, I'm in agreement with a lot of reviews stating that it might be...
    better than Empire.

What I can say though, is that it subverts or turns on it head every expectation you have about the plot, or what you think will happen.

Caught an advance screening of Episode VIII last night and I can say that it is superb overall. Lots of moments where I got the feels and some were kinda wtf for me. Not too happy with how some scenes played out but the plot was well-paced and great humor sprinkled all around.
Rey's parentage reveal was pretty dull but liked how they handled the appearance of Yoda.
It's so good, it looks like the Episode IV puppet rather than a CGI character.

Def see it in 3D if you can, very well done. Going to see it again over the weekend, it's just that good.

In a way though, the reveal of her parentage makes Episode VII's title make more sense, in that the Force is "awakening" because it wants to balance out Kylo's growing power.

On a related note, it seems that this whole new element of the Force balancing itself out and manifesting in certain people (regardless of their parentage) is something they're leaning into more. Aside from Rey, you can say that Ezra from Rebels fits into the same mold.

    I
have the same thing in mind but who knows where they want to take the mythos moving forward with the series. That kid in the final scene is like one of the biggest set-ups of the saga by far.

Even Rogue One went to lengths with explaining the presence of force sensitive individuals that are not necessarily Jedi or Sith. The books and tv series do a lot of the carrying the foundations of such people within the universe.

Edit: Keep replies with details about the movie under spoiler tags too, please.

    Thank You.

The more I think about it... Christ, Kylo is the dumbest man in the galaxy. As soon as Luke emerged from the barrage from an entire squad of AT-AT's with not even a scratch, he didn't even pause to think "ayyyy something's not right"

I wonder if this allows for a true remaster of the Original Trilogy; cleaning up the matte lines, improving the audio track, and restoring the visuals.

The only special edition that bothered me was the ROTJ Blu Ray. The added Vader NOOOOOO made me almost want to break the disc in half. It was a moment that was captured perfectly with Vader's movement. There was no need to tell the audience what was happening.

Only people i know or read that say this movie is ass are people who think episode 1-3 were good

people that like Episode 1, 2 and 3 can also like episodes 7 and 8. people shouldnt stereotype nor draw lines between fans. generally, a lot of SW fans like all the movies.

I didn't like Rogue One, though it was apparent that isn't not mainline and told a story that didn't need to be told since it was obvious what the outcome would be,

lacked the lightsaber duels and elements that put the series on the map (c'mon, they could have written in an unknown Jedi that would eventually duel with Vader. if Obi Wan didnt come out of hiding, Vader would have never found him. Rogue One could of introduced a 2nd to last remaining Jedi, that would have made things more interesting. but it was just too pew pew and only 1/4 of what makes Star Wars great).

so there's really no way Episode 8 could be as bad as Rogue One, and it can easily surpass Episode 7, which is entirely better than Episode 4.

You can like a movie but you can also understand or admit that it was bad
    Episode 1-3 were BAD
The characters, acting, and writing were soooo bad

I like plenty of bad movies
I still admit that they're bad

I know fans love the light sabers and the force but for what rogue one was and the story it wanted to tell, it did a good job.

If people think rogue one was bad just because it didn't have Jedi light saber duels then I don't think they're real Star Wars fans

I can't call Rogue One bad, but it wasn't at all that interesting. The protagonist had a more passive role in the story. I never felt engaged with what she had going on. Jyn had no real influence to the world as the movie went on. By the time they pulled the last shot of her, I really didn't care about the journey. I only know the names of the characters in that movie because Star Wars Black Series figures are en route to the Transformers in the toy aisle.

People only talk about Rogue One because of what happens in the last 5 minutes of the movie. If it weren't for that, we probably wouldn't be talking about it at all. Outside of the finale for the crew, it was a very safe movie.

Rogue One was a fun ride with some really strong moments and some dumb ones. It wasn't perfect, but I dug it.

The Last Jedi was much, much better, though. Best Star Wars movie so far out of the post-original-trilogy ones. It has some pacing problems that make it feel too long and slightly disjointed, but outside of that it kicks ass and should be watched.

the only thing i didnt like about Rogue One was the exclusion of John Williams' music. Excluding what is literally his best composed soundtracks was no bueno.
that and Carrie Fisher's cgi face. tho cgi Tarkin looked good.

Michael Giacchino had a few tracks on the score I could get behind. One was the Imperial Suite and the other was the piece for the Vader scene.

Man I wasnt feeling it. Im giving it 2 out of 4 pew pew zap zaps.. I was expecting to like it a lot more. Blade runner deff the best movie ive seen this year. I thought it was pretty anti climatic, to me it more so felt like a movie you just go to see because it looks cool and its something to do on a free day with friends. Really was hoping for a better pay off but it just kinda ends and its like well. Ok i guess...

I just want to hear from someone if the plot is decent. I didn't really like ep 7 that much cause it felt like a ep 4: SJW remake. It wasn't bad sure, but it was really underwhelming for me. Hope inclusion of Luke and some info on Rey's background makes it more interesting but you never really know.

An excellent chapter (dare I say episode) in Star Wars lore
Old Man Luke will be the defining role in this movie to me. It was great to see him play the wise but cynical master. The story is as much about him as the new blood. Oh and the way he completely mindfucked Kylo Ren was gold.

Kylo Ren took a much needed character progression. He went from being a wannabe, to essentially a henchman, and to a power hungry maniac. It was great to see them tease his light side return only to see it shatter into full blown megalomania. He flipped the switch to full blown Vader and it was great.

Rey..., I’ll be honest she is good but the arcs of Luke, Kylo, and even Poe were better to me. Honestly she felt like an instrument between Luke and Kylo. The reveal of her lineage was very good IMO. She is no one special, just an orphan whose parents sold her. To me this makes her connection to the Force and role in the Resistance better than it’s her birthright.

Poe is cool once again. He has a lot of maturation in this movie. Like watching Russell Westbrook go from chucking up bricks to efficiently running the offense.

My biggest gripes began with the Finn-Rose dynamic. I wont say it felt tacked on it just felt like they wanted diversity and to quell the Finn-Rey and Finn-Poe people. Last, and this did upset me, why the hell is Phasma even in this movie? This bitch went out worse than Boba and Jango Fett.
TLDR: Go see the Last Jedi.

Just saw it and honestly I have mixed feelings about the experience, the story isn't really fine-grained when you watch the film you really see how the writer is forcing a sub-plot that doesn't make sense and also ignores the time frame of the events it's a very rushed movie.
It does have some shinning, beautiful moments.
But for me this movie is the worst of the saga storywise so much potential is wasted.

Apparently they got Frank Oz back to do Yoda's voice. For anyone who has seen it, did he sound weird, like James Earl Jones did in Rogue One?

Not really. There are some inflection points where it gets awkward. For the most part it works. They go back to using a puppet, which IMO, was not a good look. Lucas made a CG Yoda for a reason. I totally agree with him. This puppet looks off.

I thought it was good, but it damn sure doesn't hold a candle to ESB. Right now I'd hold it in the middle my tier list.
