I don't really look at it as part of the "Anthology" in the sense that it doesn't directly cover the same characters. That being said, I'd put it between ROTS and TPM

8/10; I don't know how to place it compared to ESB but as for it's status as the sequel in a trilogy, it is definitely a success. Regarding Luke's badass moment, the only part that gave it away for me was him wielding Anakin's lightsaber since you see it get wishbone'd earlier. I know that a gajillion laser bolts tearing up his spot should look suspect but it's Luke Muthafuckin' Skywalker; how could you not believe it?!

I knew Luke was gonna show up but I was banking on him raising the X-Wing and stealing Finn's thunder. Also Yoda was fantastic, couldn't ask for more. Only concern going forward is what'll they do with Leia?

I was confused by how low Rogue One was being rated and then remembered that this series is a goddamned national treasure.

Iiiiii'm underwhelmed, I think. Seeing it again Sunday. Felt like they were maybe trying to do too much sometimes and then doing nothing other times. Also took about four hours out of my day between arriving, trailers, and the movie. :wtf:

Thanks for being here. Thanks for being part of this.

I had to marinate on it. It is definitely not perfect but it's growing on me. Some of the expectations I had going in and how they were addressed in the movie didn't play out how I wanted. This translated more to disappointment directly after viewing especially with all the fan theories. I don't necessarily hold those same thoughts since this was a new vision of an old story.

Just saw the movie a few hours ago.

    Pros:

Poe is one of the best characters in the movie. No surprises there.

Space battles were great as usual. Also no surprises there.

When the resistance ship light speeded into The Supremacy, there was this one guy down the front who yelled 'HOLY SHIT!'. It was funny, but kinda ruined the tone of the scene in general. The silence after it plows straight through the ship was spectacular.

Yoda was one of the best parts of the movie. I loved that he looked like a puppet and wasn't entirely CG... it was a nice touch.

Kylo's ability to use the force evolving beyond Snoke's own was really cool to see. Kylo and Rey's fight was amazing too. The red throne room and the guards also looked superb.

For the little amount of time we had with Benicio's character, I really enjoyed him. Getting Phasma out of the way was nice too.

I like the ending when the kid used the force on the broom, it was a nice touch that thematically matched with the whole theme of the movie of the force being able to manifest within anyone and not just people within specific bloodlines.

I like Luke's death. He's basically come one with the force so he can train force sensitive users around the galaxy.

Rey having all the ancient texts near the end was a nice touch.

    Cons:

Luke throwing away the saber was a poorly executed and forced attempt at humour and really ruined the ending TFA had set up.

Casino scene felt super out of place.

Underdeveloped characters. Snoke was basically a jobber like I half-expected. Kinda wish his death wasn't as telegraphed as it was, but I was surprised that there were no explanations about his origins, goals, and how he and the First Order formed.

Something about Leia floating back to the ship looked really off, and I didn't like the scene in general. Like, talk about a cool way to write her out of the story, and then she suddenly uses the force to come back.

There were a lot more jokes than I'd like, most of them felt forced too.

The whole animal cruelty thing was... meh.

I'm not sure what to think of Rose. Her romance w/ Finn felt rushed.

Deus ex machinas in the form of the rebels suddenly finding a base to buy them time from being totally obliterated.

Loose plot threads, i.e No Knights of Ren. They were mentioned in the previous movie, but are nowhere to be seen.

    Nitpicks:

No Lando cameo when the trio (Rose, Finn and Benicio) were finding out who's ship Benicio stole was disappointing Also not finding out what happened to Benicio after the Supremacy blew up.

The appearance of the Porgs was cute at first but obviously thrown into the foreground by Disney's upper management. They only serve to be an excuse to make more merchandise, as if Disney didn't make enough money already.

And yes, we get it, that one lady has a really big nose. Stop doing so many side shots of her >_>
    Just saw it a few hours ago (company Christmas/Holiday Party or whatever you wanna call it these days). Safe to say that knights of Ren are pretty much Kylo's Sith soldiers for Episode IX. Also, remember the scene when one of the generals was going to kill Kylo in Snoke's room? Bet that guy is also a Sith, but we couldn't see him pull out his lightsaber because Kylo woke up. Looks like in this movie Luke is the Yoda to Rey. Also, I have a feeling that that's not the whole story about Rey's parents. You don't think Kylo and Rey are maybe half siblings or something. A lot of scenes reminded me of the original trilogy, where Kylo did a Vader to Rey by asking her to join him. Guess Kylo got sick and tired of being belittled by Snoke and took the perfect opportunity like all Sith and killed his master;
it wasn't to help Rey in any way though, I don't think. Where Kylo keeps on saying, "forget the past". It's also a metaphor in a way.
In other words, don't think about the and don't dwell to much on the past because it only keeps from doing things. You're not free if you keep dwelling on the past. You don't necessarily have to kill anyone.

A lot of Expanded Universe/Extended Universe material in the sequel trilogy as well. They're just under different names and slightly different scenes, that's all...

What about that general that tried to kill Kylo? Didn't Luke say that Rey embraced the dark side of the force more than Kylo did? Could Rey wielding Kylo's red light saber be a foreshadowing?

    Hux was still around.

Luke did say that about Rey. However, don't we all for a brief moment. Luke had a moment where he was going to kill Ben for the "greater good". I wouldn't think about foreshadowing on her holding his lightsaber. Just a cool moment in the movie.

    Doesn't explain much lol
I've never seen any Jedi perform such a feat so it kinda seems random although we always knew that she was force sensitive

    Did you ever. . . . .
See someone stop a blaster bolt mid-air in the Original Trilogy

Freeze someone dead in their tracks in the Original Trilogy

If the force can be used to manipulate objects against the laws of physics, why not their own body?

What I meant was Luke's comment. Where he goes and tells Rey that she willingly embraced the dark side where most people try to resist it. Towards the end of the movie, I for sure thought that she would use force lightning on those imperial guards. Also, when her and Kyle slayed the imperial guards, she had that Darth Sidious light saber aggression going on...

Also, how can a light side user and a dark side user be that telepathic with each other? For what it's worth, Snoke could just be lying when he said that he implanted those images in Kylo's and Rey's mind. Snoke could just be the puppet of the true leader of the first order... Also, can the first order be the first jedi order? Check this:
The third organization that followed in the wake of Sidious's demise was the One Sith, founded by Darth Krayt. Once a Knight of the first Jedi Order, Krayt fought for the Old Republic during the Clone Wars as A'Sharad Hett.

Also, we all know that Disney made Darth Caedus Kylo Ren pretty much...

I would like to hear people's reasons for not liking the movie. Because the reasons I've seen on social media so far are astounding to me. Like people be complaining about things that were easily some of the best parts of the movie. Plus what the hell is with this thing here lately where if a movie has comedic moments then suddenly it's awful. "Aw the movie made me laugh. Now I don't like it."

I think it's mostly people expecting one thing and getting something else.

Interesting note, Empire got the same response back when it came out.

Yeah I believe that may be the case after reading user reviews on rotten tomatoes. No one really gives a good explanation for why it's bad other than it not being what they wanted therefore it's the worst movie ever.

I for one was on the edge of my seat the entire time and was gasping with excitement during many moments. Saw it with an excellent audience as well full of people from all walks of life and families bringing their kids all wearing star wars shirts. People cheered and applauded during several moments of the film including the ending. It was about as great of a movie-going experience as you can have at the cinema so it just blows my mind how harsh people are being towards it.

This is exactly why. I am one that came out the theater and not looking at it for the story it was going for. Many had certain expectation about certain characters. Rian Johnson sent tactical nukes to virtually all fan theories, which on the onset left hopeful viewers with the smug goat face.

    It was aight.
Movie lingered in one place for too long. Last third made up for it. CGI and combat was on point but it just failed to keep me on the edge of my seat. Rogue One had a better lasting impact on me.
