The Fighting Edge looks clean and simplistic but I understood it has alot of flashy features.
Besides the 2 side lights what other features do your new arcade stick have?
You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.

    Glowy stick?
    Remappable buttons on the fly?
    Newly designed joystick?
Bigger than TE yet smaller than VLX Premium?
Intuitive handle design carrying over from HrapV's?
Quality of life improvements all around?

    Preordered.

    In addition to rumblz' question;

    1. What will be the warranty policy regarding the stick? Is it the standard warranty or will there be an extended one given that the stick is of an entirely new design?
    2. Is the touch panel a "plug and play" module that can be replaced by users in the event that it fails? Specifically:
    • If not, is there some other method of using start/select functions being added to the stick somewhere?
    • If it can be replaced, how would one go about getting a replacement? Will Hori be selling replacements? And if so, how much will they cost?
    3. What sort of layout does the stick use? It looks like the NAMCO Noir layout, but I wasn't certain.
    4. Similar to question 2, what options will be available in the event of the LED strips failing?
    5. Will there be replacement Kuro buttons offered for retail sale?
    6. Will standard Sanwa buttons fit in place of the stock buttons? Primary reason for asking, the mandated color scheme of the Xbox 360 version pretty much ruins the sleek look.
    7. Will replacement Hayabusa sticks be offered for retail?
    8. Will a carrying case be offered? If so, are there any pictures available, and also, what will be the price?

I noticed it has a plexi on top, would it be easy to swamp out the artwork? I'm planning to leave it as is (it looks really nice and clean), but I'm curious about it. Thanks in advance!

Looks like it will not be practical to get working for both systems due to capacitive touch buttons.

Besides the 2 side lights what other features do your new arcade stick have?
Aside from the LED lights on the side, here is a list of new features found on the Fighting EDGE:
    • Stick lever and all of the buttons will be using HORI proprietary parts. (developed with top player SAKO and through compiling user/top player feedback from JP and US)
      * HORI Original Stick "Hayabusa" - Utilizes new V-Cut Housing Cam design which allows for faster and smoother input
      * HORI Original Button "Kuro" - Newly improved button
    • Touch sensor START, SELECT, Tournament Mode (ON/OFF), and Button Configuration.
      * Tournament Mode - Activated when held down for 3 seconds and turns off all touch sensor button functions.
      * Button Configuration - Activated when held down for 3 seconds and allows for users to remap buttons
on the arcade stick rather than in the in-game settings.
    • Side LED lights that illuminate in Blue, or flashes Red when the stick receives vibration signals from the console for added visual effects.
      (ie. When receiving damages)
    • Mat added to the bottom for comfort and to prevent stick from sliding.

Yes the acrylic face plate can be unscrewed and taken off. However as the manufacturer we do not recommend that you take apart the stick due to the fact that it will void the warranty.

It's pretty sexy and makes me wish I played on a stick, though I must ask what happens if the LED touch panel stops working? Is it easily replaceable on its own or would something like that require investing in an entirely new stick?

Yup there are a lot of new features on this stick and have been developed from compiling feedback from users and top players from the US and JP. Aside from being able to remap your button layout on the stick and not through the in-game settings, your reconfigured buttons are saved within the stick so that you can plug and play without having to reconfigure your buttons each time. Definitely saves you time at tournaments!!

This product is meant to be used for either the PS3 or the Xbox 360 (not both) and as the manufacturer we do not recommend that you modify your stick due to the fact that it voids your warranty.

Thank you very much!! In regards to the internal images, we do not have any internal images as of now... There should be some reviews that will be coming out in the coming weeks that will most likely go over the insides. However, we do not recommend modifying your stick as the manufacturer due to the fact that this will void your warranty.

I've a question about those new buttons. Are they more silent than regular Hori/Sanwa parts? I would love some built in silent push buttons for nightly sessions without waking people up.

A 90-day warranty with a fightstick as complex as this is a bit scary. And if it's not easy to retrofit with other arcade parts, this becomes a very risky buy. As cool as it looks, I'll keep my distance until the reviews come in...

^ Just wait. This was JUST released in Japan. Information should be trickling in any moment. Some people in the US have the stick already and I'm sure they'll share.

I wouldn't be surprised if our very own ShinJN is putting together a meaty review.

Although I think most people would agree with me when I say that, the thought that the touch panel could potentially fail and you might be stuck with a half worthless stick is EXTREMELY troublesome to say the least. Hopefully Hori has considered the fact that part of what makes a stick viable in the "serious" market is the ability to replace failed parts quickly and cost-effectively; and will seriously consider offering replacement parts, ESPECIALLY for the touch panel. For that matter, I hope it's replaceable to begin with.

Guess we'll just have to wait for more information regarding the internals on this one.

I seriously doubt they will ever sell a replacement lcd panel (Its not an lcd panel by the way)just like any electronics you have if it breaks after the warranty you either get it repaired or buy a new one. If you buy a tv with touch panel or a tablet pc and after a year or so using it breaks do you think the manufacture is going sell you a replacement? I have used touch screen units for years and years with never any issues.

I doubt the quality of this touch panel is on par with an $800 iphone or a $2000 TV. That's not a valid comparison in my book. We'll just have to see how dependable/durable they are. I am hoping for the best. The stick looks incredible.

Love the design, just not feeling the Namco Noir layout. May I ask why your company chose this over the Vewlix layout? I'll probably cave in & get this eventually once I hear long-term reviews about the reliability. Was hoping for a 1-year warranty instead of just 90-days but oh well.

I know sako prefers the Noir/Astro style layout because it's easier for him to plink using the extra buttons. Actually sako and Daigo map the select/back button to the furthest buttons (bottom right) to give them added inputs when doing combos/links.

it is a very valid comparison both things I mentioned used restive touch buttons same as this stick this is not the type of screen you see on the new tablets/smartphone its old tech much simpler than an lcd

I understand what you're saying and that it's not an LCD display. My point was that it's worked into a $200 price tag and that makes me worry about quality.

I have used touch screen units for years and years with never any issues.

....I never said anything about an LCD panel. And while I'm glad you've never had problems with touch-based units, everyone isn't so lucky, and they do indeed actually fail sometimes (I know... I've replaced several).

Also, your comparisons are largely irrelevant:
    • If my TV with a touch panel has a touch panel that goes bad, does that mean I can't watch TV? Unlikely. It just means I can't use the touch panel on it. I'm sure that won't break the remote, and you'd likely lose no functionality (except the obvious) by using it too.
    • If I have a tablet PC in which the touch panel goes out, I can plug in a keyboard and keep it moving. For that matter, you can typically buy a replacement to fix it because the digitizers are rarely (if ever) proprietary. Even if they are proprietary, there are usually close-enough replacements for them.
Now, if the touch panel (or whatever you want to call it) goes out on a Fighting Edge, well, you can't even press start anymore. .....

I say again you can't even press start. You also can't configure the buttons on the stick anymore (except in-game). You also can't turn the LEDs on or off. You also can't press select.
You also can't even press start.
That's an entirely different kind of problem. Unlike the TV, I don't have a remote to ignore the issue. If there isn't some way to replace the touch panel on the FE, unlike the tablet PC, I can't add a peripheral and get my functionality back nor do I have the ability to buy a replacement digitizer.

Instead I've simply got a stick that... well... I hope I can still use, but will have permanently lost functionality even if I can.

-Any game lacking an "any button press" method of even getting past the intro screen is immediately unplayable.
-Any game requiring the start button to actually start a game/match is immediately unplayable (unless you want to navigate the menu endlessly).
-If the LEDs are on when the panel goes out, I've got to take it apart (hopefully) and find a way to disable them.
-There's also the worst case scenario chance that, by engaging tournament mode, the start/select functions on the PCB itself are disabled. What that would mean is that even in the event I could figure out some obscure way to rig start/select buttons, they wouldn't work anyway.

Now, for PS3 users I imagine you could go through the constant hassle of keeping a controller nearby to swap controllers, press start, swap again, and finally play a match. Annnnnd potentially have to do that every time you need to do anything requiring the start button, if you find that to be an acceptable method of using the stick (I don't know many who would).

In the case of the Xbox 360, you'd pretty much be screwed. AFAIK, there's no way to force the X360 to swap controllers, and even if you kept a controller handy it would always be player 2, which quite often can't actually control anything.

But all that doesn't even need stating. The fact of the matter is that, of all the buttons on any stick, the start button is the most important, as it's always linked to some kind of function that is unable to be replicated by ANY other button. The touch panel going out on a FE means that you no longer have that button, and if there's no way to replace it, it would mean you have to spend $200 to buy a start button (or wait a month to play whatever it may be if Hori offers an in-house repair program, which is just an IF in itself). Now maybe I'm just a cheap ass, but that's one hella expensive start button in my book.

While I'm on the subject, it would have been nice, clever, and sleek if they hid some start and select buttons behind the second door on the back of the stick.

My mistake I should have said monitor and there is no remote. Either way its the same as any electronic device something can go bad and it looses function or completely dies. What if the pcb dies in vlx or TE? its not like Hori/MC have pcb's available to purchase sure you can mod it with a different pcb but its same deal here, if worst comes to worst you can drill holes in the case and add a back/start button at least you have a decent looking stick minus a touch screen thats a lot better than what happens to most electronic devices they become totally worthless.

Has everyone previously had any problems with touch sensor buttons? I've never had any problems with any of my electronics with these types of button sensors crapping out. From my experience, they've all been pretty durable.

What kind of monitor either doesn't have a remote (or any external control source) or isn't used with a PC that can be used to manipulate the necessary functions of the monitor? But I digress...

You really don't seem to be getting the problem here.

If the PCB dies in a VLX or TE there are commonly known, widely-available replacements for them. Their design permits interchangeable use of various parts to quickly and relatively easily restore functionality. Furthermore, you can likely restore whatever part with a literal copy of the part that was broken, and in the case of replacing a PCB typically wouldn't lose any functionality. -That does not apply to the FE- (yes you could of course ruin the stick by drilling and cutting holes into it to retrofit a generic replacement PCB, but that's one piss poor excuse for an option). Even so, I'm not talking about an entire PCB breaking, I'm talking about a simple START BUTTON breaking (it does more than that, but that's the most necessary function); and if I were, $200 to replace a PCB and $200 to replace a start button are two very different matters.

The FE is a Hori in-house design. If a button or the stick breaks, you can't buy a replacement. You -must- use a different part from a different manufacturer. That's somewhat of an issue in itself, but at least there are well-known, reliable replacements for them. But even that doesn't apply to what essentially is the start button on the FE.

There is no button to be swapped. There is no commonly known, widely-available replacement. If the unit can't be swapped out/replaced, you can't fix it. Even if it can be swapped out/replaced, if it's proprietary and Hori won't sell it to you (or anyone else who could potentially sell it to you) it still can't be fixed. Unlike pretty much every other stick, your only option is... not having any options. You'd have to drop another $200, essentially, on a start button (again, unless you want to buy a new PCB, buy a drill and some cutting equipment, and essentially make yourself a new stick -> in which case there's no point in buying this one anyway).

Even if PCBs were relevant to the discussion at hand, I wouldn't concern myself nearly as much with a PCB malfunctioning/being destroyed. Given that it is pretty much an entirely internal component, it's unlikely that it's going to sustain any sort of damage that would cause it to malfunction until "its time" came to do so. Unless this is some unheard-of tech in touch panel design, your chances of destroying the touch panel are much better. Even if it does die "when its time" you'd expect to be able to fix a damn start button, or at the very LEAST have it repaired. That's just pretty much standard. It's standard for pretty much any electronic for that matter. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for unique, but some standards just go without saying. In the case of this caliber of stick, being able to replace/repair a broken button just happens to be one of those standards. "Button" in this case being an entire touch panel, but it still ought to be replaceable.

Regarding touch panels, you typically have the same situation as you'd have with the PCB of a stick. A commonly known, widely-available replacement that requires little to no modification to install (in relevance to consumer electronics at least). For that matter there aren't a whole lot of things on most electronic devices these days that can't be fixed with a little know-how purely because the parts necessary to fix them are sold by someone. Even when there is no simple replacement, SOMEBODY (even if it's the manufacturer) can/will repair it without loss of previously functionality.

Here we have the unusual potential case of something breaking and know-how being irrelevant just because nobody sells the part; additionally, with there being no chance for repair because the manufacturer won't do it.

The fact that the PCB dying would potentially mean having to buy an entirely new stick is a different beast as a whole. I'd like to keep some level of excitement about the stick, so I honestly don't want to discuss the whopper of an issue that could be either.

But like I said before, hopefully after the guts are examined it will be found that any such concerns are largely irrelevant. For now it's all hearsay as to whether or not there's an actual issue present; I was just curious for the sake of trying to decide whether or not to pre-order the stick.

    its a 26 vizio
I always did understand what you were saying. I just feel people have different standards/expectations here in tech talk when it comes to arcade sticks compared to other electronics not that its a bad thing. I guess you could say this stick is the Mercedes of sticks there nice and fully loaded but if something goes wrong its going cost compared to a domestic. If someone is looking to pick one of these up it probably should not be their only stick just in case you have some issues down the road.

You're right. We do have different standards and expectations, and those are even higher in this price range of stick. One of those standards is being able to quickly and simply self-repair almost any malfunction (especially core functionality). The VLX had an even higher price than this stick, yet you can fix anything you'd probably think of on it yourself. All the more reason it's necessary for this stick to not suffer from such a potential issue. It's actually in the cheaper sticks that you run into the problem of needing to replace the entire unit (or modify it heavily) as opposed to replacing a malfunctioning part.

Using a Mercedes as an example... the starter in even a Mercedes can be replaced without buying a new car.

If the touchscreen died and the stick is passed the 90 day warranty then you'd just have to bite the bullet and install a replacement PCB, drilling holes for 'start' & 'select' buttons.

Can I get a X360 stick w/ all black buttons? I really dont like the 4 colors buttons that make the stick look like "kid toy".

    No.
