    err
    what that is...

    ok...
do a C.:mk: with ken... ok...
while he's in the frames of doing the kick, do his super... if it whiffs, and you did the super fast enough, you wont do the super... but, if it hits, then it will do the super. caution... it will do the super if they block or parry it too.

that's how they do it so fast
    Beat... That's all.

THis is according to the Japanese match up charts. Take note that the japanese are insane with the "top tier" characters. Ryu is considered 9 because the other shotos have alot more speed with only a small power compromise. Also, comparing the movesets of each of the characters and the different crossups/ cancels/ SA's and speed in general, Akuma (Gouki) and Ken outclass Ryu. Of course, this is only a statistical chart. So, an excellent Ryu player can still control a fight, but isn't nearly as versatile as one of the other shotos. (Though Ryu has some devastating set ups and combos. I prefer doing a normal attack, throwing out a hadoken, and then canceling into SA II). But then again, alot of people have always considered Ken better than Ryu and, up until SF3. Akuma was damn near invincible. But hey, if you want to play ryu, then play as Ryu. Maybe its up for one of the Ryu masters at this forum to move him up from 9th. Also, maybe if there were MORE Ryu players, he would move up much higher.

I used Ryu for a while, and I'll say this: His problem is,like you mentioned, that lack of variety, coupled with a slight lack of speed. I play as both him and Ken, and Ken feels that much safer when it comes to going on the offense. As Ryu, even my slightest miss is punished heavily.

For the love of all that is sane and good do not pick Chun Li or Ken. The world has seen enough Ken v Ken, Ken v Chun, and Chun v Chun matches that it's become a sad, sick joke.

Actually I say pick them all you want. I dont want anyone else learning Ibuki. Top tiers aren't going to go away and without people using them there's really no incentive to learn the other characters any ways. You've gotta know how to beat the best if you want to win any ways.

So I'm not crazy for picking up Ibuki since I've started playing this? (about 3 days ago >_> finally got round to importing it). I hear a lot of talk about how she's a difficult character to play because you need to know about all the characters and what they will do to you.

Everyone is crazy in his own way, that's what makes humans so damn great:D Seriously: if you want to play Ibuki, by all means you should. She indeed is a pretty difficult character(I don't even know how to play her), but that's something you will only face when you start out with that character. Once you get to know how to play the character and the game she will probably turn out fine.

Yeah. I believe that's the one they used at Evo2k4 (when Daigo went crazy).

    Also, Ibuki=Style. That is all.

Evo2k4 was still cps3 (plugged w a supergun instead of arcade cabinet). Japanese PS2 3s (which only exists stand-alone afaik) was out for like 2 weeks at the time of Evo2k4 and it wasn't tested enough to be sure if it was viable for a tournament.

How do I perform a 720? I think one of the first characters I want to learn is Hugo. But a few of his moves requires 360s and 720s (SA1). How the hell can I do these? I can't even do a 360 or 720 with all the time in the world - let alone under pressure. I'm using a 360 Controller on MAME and I was wondering if the 360 d-pad is just too inefficient for Street Fighter?

This is just something I've always wondered. How come in so many SF3 match videos, the players wait until the last second to pick their character/SA? As if anyone really believes that the Chun player is going to switch from SAII to SAIII at the last second.

In casuals if someone decides to pick Sean or something I'll switch to Tyrant Slaughter. It actually matters for some characters (Oro, Ryu, Yang, Necro, Makoto, Q) to change super art based on matchup. Some people do counterpick in tournies too.

get comfortable in the corner for now. escapes are throwing backwards (smartly) and if ur ken, sj ex tatsu out.

not on wakeup, but if you know ur opponent well enough you can parry -> sa3 a poke if he does it often, then sj to him on his wakeup and meaty/mixup all that.

HP srk the divekicks. And you can jump out rather then tech a throw. Otherwise you should block and push him out.

Hi i'm looking to start playing 3s, I just dunno what character to learn first?
I hear yun, chun, and ken are top tiers.
I was looking to learn a good poke character, like twelve until i heard he was bottom tier. any ideas on a good starting character
Start the one you want to play with, that's all what's important really.
chun li is the best poke character in the game.
    Ken is pretty good too...
though not as gifted as chun, he can link into super through many of his pokes easily...
but dont jump on the bandwagon... pick whoever you find interesting and cool
For the love of all that is sane and good do not pick Chun Li or Ken. The world has seen enough Ken v Ken, Ken v Chun, and Chun v Chun matches that it's become a sad, sick joke.

On picking a character i pretty much agree with "pick whoever you want". Don't forget though that on your way to finding that "main" character, learn the top tiers well since you will definitely be facing a lot of them. If on the way to finding that main character you happen to enjoy using one of the top tiers, good for you mate.

Another thing that works for me is actually using one top tier character and one "fun" character. In 3rd strike my main is Chunli while my fun character is Dudley or Alex. This way i am not missing out on the cheeziness of a top tier while still enjoying casual games with another character.

Oh, and although there are many Kens, Chuns, and Yuns; the best are still distinguished from each other. Basically your style of play will leave your mark. So don't be afraid of being unoriginal by picking a character that maybe used to death.

    Good luck.

Yes it is. You need a joystick. I'll reccomend starting out with a Hori Real Arcade Pro (HRAP) or a Sanwa (what Japanese people use/beast with). There are other sections on shoryuken dedicated to this sort of matter.

Hi, I'm relatively new to 3S (I've had the game for forever but I never bothered getting good) and I'm trying to get my skills up so I can play competitively. I just have one question.

What the hell do all the abbreviation infront of the moves mean? like c.mk xx SAIII for Ken is obviously Down and Medium Kick then cancel or link or w/e into Shippu but what do the other mean? like s.mp etc etc?

    Hi

I?m not new to SF so I guess this is almost embarrassing-but I must know. What is the point of just plain crouching? Does it avoid throws unlike cr guard or can you duck under some high attacks? Or can you not cr guard upon wakeup? That is does it take a second and people take advantage of it?

I ask because in matches and combo vids the player sometimes gets hits by non-guard disabling moves whilst crouching and cr crouching would have blocked the move. For instance Remy close mp. I don understand why people would ever cr over crouch guard? All help appreciated.

what about parry install ..? a term i use it if i install parry command before the move.
some moves to me is suitable to this technique as example in ryu
far mk if the ppl with ken did a jap dp ryu parry it .

Is there an article to David sirlin explain why did he dose not like 3s..?

Doses capcom think that the game is balanced so they did not establish a more balanced version...??
i did not say the is unbalanced but when i see only yun.chun.ken in tournaments i feel sick.:shake:

Hi all I'm new to this game, and just wondering about the online community for XBL. Do alot of people play on it or not? And are there any players here in Georgia (U.S.)?

And do alot of people play this game offline? Like I know it's at EVO, but is it as big as I have heard?

Actually...for whatever reason...there's a lot of people in the South that like 3rd Strike. 3rd Strike always gets big 100 + turnouts at Final Round (regional tourney event in Atlanta Georgia every March). People still play on Xbox Live but not as much as before. Now that you can basically play 3rd Strike online for virtually no money (don't even have to pay for the game) with your PC...that's what more people are doing now.

Somebody should make a new FAQ for new players. The first post is empty except for a tier list (a virtually useless thing for a new player). How many new people would even want to read past the first post in something called "New Player FAQ / Directions / START HERE?" Start where? The third page? And videos about parrying everything and ground crossups has barely any value at all for someone who's just starting.

If a new one were to be made, what should be included? Is there a video about spacing, controlling your opponent, reacting appropriately, evaluating risk, punishing whiffs, not being random, using common sense, etc. that can be referenced?

That's why I jammed everything I know into my first post in my LB2 topic. Gbursine did the same thing with his Vampire Savior one. Dunno why nobody else has gone that route. It's takes too long to sift through dozens of pages for information even if you do use the search function.

Something I try sometimes (even now) is arrograntly trying to land a move on someone repeatedly even though they won't let me. For example, lets say I want to walk up to someone with Ken and just do a light dragon. The learning curve is getting around all the counters and stuff that the opponent is doing to stop me from doing that dragon. Like maybe they'll start out with max range sweep. So first I have to learn to bait or parry that. Once thats done, they might start throwing out high pokes once I get past their max sweep range. So then I might try and high parry or counter poke to stop them. And so on and so on. Granted - if your opponent is good you'll most probably NEVER get that dragon, but you've learnt A LOT about the system mechanics while trying to land it.

This sort of thing mainly followed on from my endless attempts to land Raging Demons on people. I've learnt so many OTHER things while trying to get that, I hardly bother with the actual demons anymore - I just use the fear of it to bait out all the counter pokes or jump away attempts.

You have no idea how much I love this post

theres a bunch of option selects in 3s, the most common is low tech which is crouching LP+LK, if they throw you, you get a throw tech, if not you get crouching jab.

Is rushdown a matter of confidence, or formula?

I dropped playing Chun and I've been picking up Ken(again), but damn, I still cant help but turtle/poke most of the time and play super conservatively, in which I end up getting rushed down.

He had it right. System direction is never tampered with in tournaments. The developers did a poor job of naming the settings since normal and original sound like the same thing, but normal is what you want.

The game's main option menu is fine on its default settings, too.
