That was the greatest moment in fighting game history... Especially because I know Arthur from back when he was trashy in this game. Shit's hilarious.
I pretty much have his entire dialogue memorized.

Dark Prince vs Clockwork was too good. I remember the dude who recorded the entire thing, he was uploading that shit one by one but because it took so long we had to wait 24 hours until the next video (sometimes longer). Shit was intense, felt like I was watching a TV show, waiting the next day for episode 2.

Ok, as promised here are the Smoothviper stories, in order of increasing awesomeness... Some people would consider this a long post and for some reason a lot of people really dislike posts that are longer than a paragraph, so there's your warning ;)
Spoiler:
1. I should preface by saying I barely know Erik but he's always been cool to me whenever we interacted, just saying hello or whatever. Nothing special and it was a long time ago, but I've heard from other people that he's a nice guy when he isn't getting hype over fighting games. I respect that assuming it's true.
2. One time I was at Chinatown Fair in the vanilla SF4 days and Smoothviper was moneymatching Flash Metroid, who was in NYC for a semi-extended visit IIRC. Smoothviper mained Sagat and his secondary was Zangief. Flash played Viper. They competed on the SF4 arcade machines, which was all they had at CF at the time (they later got console stations for Super SF4). It was a back and forth set, and they were hype, although I think it was all friendly competition. I wish I could remember more of the specific popoffs, but the one I do remember has been one of my favorite lines ever since. Smoothviper won a game with Sagat's Ultra. I didn't see how he landed it because I wasn't really focused on watching them and was trying to play games on the other SF4 cab, but after he won, Smoothviper stood up with authority and SLAMMED both of his hands on the machine, stared down Flash in disgust and yelled, "That was a RANDOM ULTRA, NIGGA!" lol Thought it was pretty hilarious.
3. The first fighting game tournament I went to as an adult (my early 90s experiences are for another thread) was a SF4 tournament at Play n Trade near Union Square in Manhattan, probably in April or maybe May of 2009. There were a lot of funny things about this tournament experience for me, because even though I'd learned a bit about the scene, I only knew the names of a handful of elite players - Justin Wong, Daigo, Alex Valle, and maybe one or two other people that I had seen those guys play against in videos. This is relevant is because out of the ~25 people at this tournament, maybe half of them are very well-known players, but I had no clue at the time. I shared a cigarette or two with Smoothviper and Yipes standing outside the store, and having no idea who Yipes was, he was labeled in my mind simply "that big chill Hispanic guy with a ponytail" for a couple of months whenever I would recognize him at CF or tourneys. It was pretty funny/cool, of course, to realize later on that he's a world-famous legend in MvC2 and also for his commentary. Sanford was also at the tournament (and he didn't do that great - he played Ken back then and displayed his trademark salt throughout the tournament)... Andre, Nerdjosh, and Evil Rahsaan were also there (and finished 1-2-3).
Anyway, I got there early enough for some casuals before the tournament started. Didn't talk to anyone for a while, but eventually I found myself having a conversation with a really nice guy ("nice guy" from now on) who seemed to know a lot about the game. He shared information with me, commented on the casuals, encouraged me to keep practicing, etc. I looked forward to seeing how he would do in the tournament.
A little while later, nice guy let it be known to me that he wasn't thrilled that a certain other player had shown up. Nice guy said that the other guy had major beef with him because he, nice guy, had defeated him in the first round of the controversial Gamestop tournament when everyone in that tournament was forced to play on the store's crappy Xbox pads. Of course, this player who had beef with nice guy was Erik "Smoothviper" Arroyo.
Fate (or a dude who might have rigged the bracket? hadn't thought of that possibility until just now) would be cruel to nice guy. He had to face Erik in the first round. I along with 3-4 other players watched the match. Erik picked Zangief. Nice guy, Dictator. Erik went in on the shit talk early as they got set up to play, saying that he was gonna prove nice guy was garbage or whatever. It got more intense from there. Given that all I could judge the situation by at the time, not knowing that Erik is possibly the most legendary hardcore shittalker in the entire FGC, was that this really friendly and helpful guy I just met was being verbally assaulted, relentlessly, by some dude and it didn't seem like he had done anything wrong, I was a bit freaked out. The set was competitive but Erik got a solid win. I think it was 2-0 but nice guy got a round or two. I tried to process what I'd just witnessed - the utter bitchslapping of this guy I'd hoped would do well - and then the real highlight moment occurred: as they were disconnecting from the console and Erik continued to pile it on, nice guy turned to Erik and in an irritated but mostly disappointed voice said, "Come on man... I played you pretty good! And you're gonna be like that?"
Erik looked him in the eye and with more conviction and *sincerity* than I've ever heard such a thing uttered before, explained, "Yeah... because you fucking SUCK." Then he started laughing.
...
LOL god damn it was intense. Might not seem like the biggest deal compared to some of the other popoffs, but I'm telling you, the seriousness with which he told this guy that he SUCKED was beyond brutal. I talked to nice guy a little bit after the match, and he was pretty upset by the situation. A few minutes later I saw him outside talking on the phone, and I didn't see him again for the rest of the tournament. Or ever. Brother just peaced out.
There was one more story, but this is already ridiculously long. Basically, not long after the Play n Trade tourney, Gootecks had flown out to NYC for a tourney (I think it was an "e-sports" event). Erik ended up knocking Gootecks out, and as I watched the match, I thought "oh shit, if this guy beats Gootecks he's gonna flip out." He didn't really address Gootecks directly but violently proclaimed to his friends that Gootecks sucked ass for a good few minutes afterward.

Though the subject matter being VF2, the "2" implying a previous iteration, strongly suggests that it did not, in fact, effect/bring about VF.
I mean, I'm down for posting about time paradoxes, but in this case I'm just going to assume that he erred.

"Effect" isn't to "Bring about"
"Affect" is. "Effect" is a noun. It's a change in something. You "affect" something to cause it to be "effected." You cannot "effect" something, as "effect" is a noun, and you cannot 'noun' something. I can't MvC2 a play. But I can play MvC2.
As far as your "time paradox" hypothesis goes, it's flawed in that "effect" / "affect" isn't a time-bearing relationship. They're two different parts of speech. They're two different words. They have two separate meanings that just so happen to affect each other - oh, see what I did there?
And while I might be being a bit overly pretentious with grammar at times, I don't think this is such a time. It's not difficult to know simple things, like where to put a period and comma - that said, I could have also got pissy with his retort, but I suppose it's still SRK and it's pointless.

Nope. Effect can be used as a verb, in exactly the way he described. That doesn't make the statement less wrong, but it does make you more wrong.
