SFXT: Online Tournament Series - Bi-Weeklies!

So let me see if we have this straight for now.

1. No Assist gems or vitality gems, cross assault and pandora extender gems are allowed.
2. Bi-Weekly, and Top 8 will be recorded for posterity.
3. Done by region or region free?
4. 1v1, 2v2, 2v1 are all good?
5. People hosting lobbies are responsible for enforcing the rules and recording results.
6. If match is unplayable, coin flip to decide winner?

Anything with a question mark is because I'm not too clear yet what the we've all agreed on yet.

2. Partially correct, I will have to work out a way to record. I don't have anything to do that with RIGHT NOW. Very possible in the future though.
3. USA only preferably, others allowed with great connections.
4. 1v1 preferably

6. This is what I suggest, does not have to nesc be that way.

Again, everything is still up for discussion but those are my suggested rules.

I'm sure if you ask nicely Jibbo would be cool with recording a top 8 for now for the 360 version. As for the PSN version, yeah I'm not too sure.

Lol good job pointing out the irony of the sxt communities situation. The worse part is that for a large portion of us, the frivolous amout of hate this game has recieved has PUSHED the to play online as their major source of competion. Myself included. I cant convince people to pay the game in my area seriously, rather than drop the game all together I decided to play online and support it that way. Nice observation though :////////////////

Pretty much I go online and have a special guest player and we just go nuts online playing ppl and doing challenges. trying to spice it up.
Or it could be a variety show wherein we talk about the game. play people who are in a room. I dunno indulge me people.

I would help and totally want to get into something like that, but I got no money for headsets. Just wasted some cash on a new stick, since my old one pretty much died on me after 6 years of abuse.

Also, I think its a separate tournament for PSN and 360.

This, I don't have a way of doing tournaments for PSN directly. I COULD manage the bracket with people reporting in the results. Depends on what you guys on psn think would work best. I have 360 so I can be more proactive for the live users.

I was thinking of using IRC for reporting and chatting, you guys ok with that? Maybe like #sxtchat. I would use EFNET. For anyone with no experience with IRC, www.efnet.org is really easy to use. Just pick a user name and put the title of the room on the left hand side, you will connect to the room automatically, it is web-based.

There already is a chatroom for xT on Efnet, sure you can use it for the tournaments;

Perfect! So that takes care of communication. I guess we just need sign ups now as long as everyone is cool with the rules. I saw two players from europe want to enter as well, feel free guys. If the connections are bad though, then we will have to work something else out for you guys.

2nd post updated with tournament information and rules. I don't know how many tournaments are in the series yet but, more stuff to figure out as we go along lol. Now I need to get up with Jibbo to see if he can record top 8 for us.

As for PSN, anyone have a way to record that?

I can record the PSN matches for you. I have my PS3 all set up to record with a capture card and I can put it out as 720p 30fps. I should also be able to start this weekend, with proper notice.

One question though, are we going to make a channel on Youtube to put these on or are we going to use someone's existing channel.

Sure, sounds good to me. Any help to get this moving is much appreciated. I suppose the best way for us to run this is to use Challonge and the IRC. Should be realitively simple. I know some people want to see top 8 games in vids, I would prefer top 3 just for speeds sake but, it may not be as big of a deal as I am thinking. Depending on the numbers it should be pretty straight forward to run all the matches we can at once to top 8 and then start recording from there. We can try it for this first tournament and if it bogs everything down, maybe we can just switch to top 3 recorded.

I can record all the matches and put up top 3 and 8 first before getting around to the rest of them. Trust me, I have about 413 hours of space left to record into and I have the time to do all the work of encoding and uploading. Since it will be recording from my PS3, it shouldn't affect the people who are playing

Thing is that it is going to slow down the overall process because you have to be present for every match to record it.That would slow down the tournament considerably. If we are doing tournament online, might as well take care of the few advantages it has over offline with us having "unlimited" set ups to run everything concurrently allowing for the tournament to flow as fast/smooth as possible.

No, i was thinking like they only show the games at the one set up on the stream. I show all the games I can catch and make sure I'm there for top 8 and most definitively top 3

Do you think we should allow teams as an OPTION? It could be interesting with the right cultivation, instead of everyone scrambling to find partners.

Well, I think it should be open to people to choose, If they have been practicing as a team, that is them at their best, if someone's been practicing alone, that is them at their best. We want all of our competition at our best, so leave it open to bother single and teams

I am torn on it but, if people want to do teams I will roll with it. I have gotten scrapped by cross assault combinations that are not possible with out use of a human partner + gems and the set up was combo'ed into :(. Either way, if you guys want to leave it open, so be it.

K, let's get this set up. We need to find other hosts to set up lobbies to hold the matches in, and figure out the finer points of how we are doing this. I would say we have a lobby set up, all private slots, and we invite the match in. Also, will we want any commentators. I would say not right now, but once we get going it might be a nice thing to have

Hmmmmmm, that is specifically for recording in mind right? I was thinking that everyone would just hook up via gt invites and play matches on a "as called" basis. That process kind of messes up you recording individual matches before top 3 and 8 though. Commentators would be cool but, lets get the logistics of these events set up first I think.

Anyone else trying to chime in with ideas for this?

I don't quite know how we would set it up though, so both people could see the match, as commentators usually come in pairs

Not really, just stop the recording, and set up the next one, do all the encoding and uploading when it's all done.

Well for top 8 we're definitely going to need whoever's currently recording to host. Other than that, we might as well get some volunteers to host before the top 8 and run through them as smoothly as possible.

The commentary being done would be difficult because more than likely, no one would actually be present at the recording persons location. We would pretty much either have to do retroactive commentating, which can be good and bad. Good in the sense that you have more time to break things down bad in that you dont have the same sense of excitement while commentating after the fact and you would need to edit the commentary in over the vid.

I might be able to get someone to come over and record with me in a couple weeks. When she gets back form camp I'm going to be teaching my girlfriend this game, she might be able to commentate with me

Yeah, that is something we can come back too. There are already a few people who doing this type of thing with the commentary anyways, Ryan hunter and Jibbo. Maybe those guys would have solutions to the commentary stuff. I just want to make sure that we can run a good, fast, dependable online tournament for right now. Recording some quality play is also paramount, even if it just a few matches per tournament.

Quick question, should we make it so they can only enter either the Xbox or the PS3 one, so we don't accidentally have match overlap

Yeah, I figure most people probably don't own both but, just in case. One console or the other.
If we were doing sign ups, people should just let us know in this thread if they want to enter. Seems like the easiest way to do it and I will put everyone in the 2nd post for both systems.
