The Future of SFxT

Hey guys. I have been doing a lot of research on Cross Tekken tournaments and it appears that people are just dropping it as a main game (let alone a side game)

This I find very unfair to those of you who have kept with the game from day 0 until now.

I am technically still "new" since I came back to this game due to DLC and I find that if you look past the stuff that people complain about, its a fun game and enjoyable at a high level. People just hate on Cross Tekken because its the cool thing to do.

With this in mind, sadly, the public eye is dropping SFxT as a main game, making it impossible to rely going to a tournament for SFxT. For those who do not play other games this is VERY unfair to those of you. Game is not even a year old and its being dropped as a main game while games like Marvel 3 are only surviving due to its name sake.

The only way you can make sure SFxT stays alive from a competitive standpoint is to go to tournaments and support it as much as you can.

How can you go further than that: Bring a setup to your major! This is asking a lot for some of you, you might imagine.

Sadly, this is the only way to guarantee its going to be at major events. Tournament organizers are more than happy to run "unofficial" tournaments for this game, just as long as the community is running it and showing their love. Maybe, something I hope; Is that if enough of us go out and support SFxT "unofficially" they can put it back in the main rotation.

The problem is numbers, I want to try to show them (the organizers to these events) that SFxT has a community to back it with numbers and with support.

I don't want to see a game like this die when the ways of saving it are incredibly simple.

Please, do your best to bring setups to majors, all you need is 4 setups to make it a tournament. There is enough of us going to events where if brought consoles to the event and were vocal enough about it, we can make anything happen.

I know for damn sure I'm going to start doing it.

Its our personal responsibility now to support this game at events, not the tournament organizers.

future of sfxt? really dont know. I'm a day one player too but i think a lot of guys play this game right now cause of those 25th. anniversary tournaments. I dont know what happens after does tournaments end tho. I'll main Tekken Tag 2 in 2 weeks when it comes out so...yeah.

I just feel that from a support standpoint, this is the only way to support it. I don't get why topics like this don't get footwork because this is an obvious, and easy solution. The anime community does it, the 3df community does it, why don't we?

Maybe people just plain don't like the game. Other games have been unpopular and had tiny communities and still managed to stay alive due to the dedication of their communities. If SFxT is dying and its own community isn't even working to support it, then that's their own fault. Just because SFxT is a Capcom game doesn't mean it automatically deserves support from tournament organizers and other community members who have no interest in it.

it sucks when a game you like starts dying off but that's the reality of the situation. People play games, then sooner or later they move on to other things. it's up to you to keep your game alive, I have been struggling to keep Guilty Gear alive in my local scene for years so I know what that's like.

Thats what I'm saying. A problem that I noticed is that since TOs are not supporting its up to the community to bring setups and support it. Show them the community cares (which is does) I feel like the TOs in general are just not being far to the players who are commited to play it and want to play it. I play GG i know what its like LOL

I said this a few weeks ago when Wizard said there would be no SFxT at Evo, but the entire thread was taken down since they have yet to officially announce anything. This game deserves a fair shot it's so much more fun than SF4 but people put that shitty game on a pedestal for some reason. I think 25th is doing a good job in doing so, but these majors can't keep screwing with the game and expect the numbers to be there.

here's one of the bigger issue. for me i missed summer jam because i lacked funds. money dictates how a community can get to said tournies for a game. I want to try to save the game but the means to is out of my power at the moment. We def need to plan out a tourney to show up to and go in numbers. at least 20+ people. I'm trying to get people to come to a richmond tourney so sfxt can get some spotlight. SF 25th shouldn't be the only tourney where people can go play sfxt. Also consider the skill gap is huge.
I'm better than most players online and offline. I do lose but it's not very often. New players want to win and not get scrapped badly. Some even give up and head back to marvel of sf4. There's a lot behind why Tos are scrapping this game but it always stems back to us the community to get out there and support it.

Can't travel nearly as much as I'd like to, but I have been going to locals when I can and plan to go to larger local events, and make my way to EVO next year (I'm a broke fool so I have to save money up waaaay in advance, lol). I'm waiting on word for Devastation right now, and I *might* make it out to the 25th Anniversary Tourney in LA, depending on how things go.

Just because it's dropped doesn't mean people won't try to run stuff on the side at EVO for it.

VF5FS doesn't even get played by a lot of people at majors either, is it dead? No. There's plenty of dedication. Like 10 or 12 cats came out for it at Next Level at the St1cKBuG tournament the other week I was present at. One dude had the most poverty stick I've ever seen, all bandaged, taped, screwed and bolted up and he still showed up with it to play VF5. That's dedication.

Even if a game is or isn't at EVO doesn't predetermine it's sustainable growth. Look at Mortal Kombat 9... it gets low numbers too but it's still at majors. I'm sure SFxT can push more numbers if people headline it, but even if it doesn't at this point Season's Beating's may be the last stand for people to come out at a major this year from what's announced.

You can't quantify these games based on EVO line ups. Yeah if it was announced people will go there for it. It doesn't mean elsewhere pre and post-EVO can't have it. If people want to play it they'll play it. I'm 110% sure SFxT still has more thriving players online than VF5FS & SkullGirls combined.

People say they want to play "good" games? Why don't they try to take a jab at those games? VF5FS too hard and mentally challenging? SG is easy and very newbie friendly but nobody wants to memorize 5 minute combos and slow paced fighting. People don't even play it at the Break or Next Level much anymore outside of dedicated gatherings. All hypocrites. So please, think.

My question is when are people going to learn to play a game first before spewing b.s.? Never. It's just a huge cesspool of people regurgitating the same crap. A ton of people probably did give SFxT a second chance after the DLC characters were dropped.

People just play marvel because its fun to watch and has fake hype. Just does not make sense to me that Cross tekken is the game thats dying and not marvel because people just dick ride marvel for the name sake.

To be fair every game has it's strengths and weaknesses. If I could get into Marvel I would, though. Everybody has a fighting chance at something despite how small it can be with low tiers and how high it is with top tiers. The game is "hype" because there's a lot of undiscovered stuff from all the different combinations of characters and when something new they don't know about pops up it's interesting to watch. It's fun for the randomness.

A bunch of top players over the SF25 weekend in NYC talked about and agreed that SFxT is better to play but not better to watch and Marvel is the total opposite, it's just not as fun to play but it is fun to watch. Honestly, I couldn't agree more. I can't get into Marvel because I can't play it properly and I can't keep up with random stuff.

The best defense in SFxT is blocking attacks whereas the best defense in Marvel is avoidance/dodging space. You can't quantify these games though, Joe Lewis. I won't bash Marvel much beyond a few designs I don't agree with and can't be repaired such as Xfactor, TAC infinites that they're leaving in, and character balance. But, SFxT just has way too many bandwagon haters with that mob mentality that it's probably better just to not answer to.

Marvel's gotten the SF4 treatment. It's been made to be dumbed down enough to cater to casual masses so they sell more games. Easier to understand and easier for people to keep watching and playing. If you want to celebrate the Marvel vs Capcom games, why aren't more people running and streaming MVC2? Because it's buggy and a cluster fuck. But it's what created all these gaming celebrities in the first place.

But hey, people will keep playing Marvel 3 because of the casuals. Do you know why?! Do ya?! Ya wanna know, guys?!

It's $$$$$$$$$ and franchises.

SFxT is fine. Capcom is still supporting it with updates and they will continue to do so for a while.

When you have 6 months worth of threads asking if a game is dead, sooner or later you're gonna have to consider that maybe the game isn't dead.

SFxT is still here, folks. Sorry.

I have no trouble finding matches online, particularly after the new characters dropped. Lots of people play this game. Probably more than most of the hipster games that are supposedly "in" right now. That number will only increase when the Vita version is released, considering the cross platform play. And, of course, we also have balance patches in store, and several worldwide tournaments.

Why don't we stop making threads under the assumption that the game is "dying", because that's just buying into the nonsense that ignorant people spout.

Just keep playing.

I bought SFxT limited edition day 1. I don't hate it because "it's cool to hate it". I hate it because of it's scummy business tactics and stupid game mechanics (assist-gems primarily.)

Back in the day, there were deep divides between ST, 3S, Marvel, CvS2, GG, Tekken, etc. Sure, some people crossed over, but most just focused on one game. I think maybe a lot of new folks don't appreciate that. Just cause a bunch of people feel comfortable in SF4 or MvC3 and want to focus on those doesn't mean this game is without merit. Most of the play I saw at Evo was mediocre at best. This game has a lot left to be explored.

I understand the meaning behind these threads but it gives these people who feel the need to express their unwanted opinions (especially that dude that whores his bro's name to get fame) to hijack. We know the game isn't dead; we're still playing it

The only people that hate it fall into the usual categories of:
1.LOCKED DISC CONTENT BOO HOO!
2.Assist gems(Auto block/tech soured new players and pro players alike)
3.They can't play it like SF4 so it sucks because there tactics used on that game don't fly against good players in this one
4.Quite possibly the main draw of hate is stream monster bandwagoning and pro player wood riding

Apparently you need a pro players endorsement to decide whether you will enjoy a game or not. I appreciate the ones that do support the game but even without their support I'd still play the game. The DLC characters have been released(And I will gladly pay for more if they decide make the cast even bigger), the most game breaking bugs and glitches have been patched, the main problematic abused moves have been nerfed, and there is still a big balance patch on the way, so with that being said this leads me to the conclusion that #4 is the only reason why people are hating. Let them hate though. This game will still be played well into next year.

And for those that DO need it, PR Rog and Dieminion BOTH(top 2 US players) already said they like SFXT a lot, dieminion even said its becoming his favorite and most played of ANY game.

Yeah, I can understand TOs dissing it, but there are still some top players giving SFxT enough credit to warrant it being a playable game. It may not be enjoyably watchable, but they do agree it is very playable. Afterall if nobody's entering or watching them the revenue and space is wasted. A lot of people are playing it online though, I think it speaks minimally enough for the game's current support from the community.

The game can stand it's own IMO too, even Valle admits he likes it. Richard Nguyen, Tatsu, AndyOCR seem to like the game just as much. Why aren't these opinions more validated over the hateful ones? Who knows right? It's crazy that the people who don't play the games have a louder more appreciated voice than the ones that do play it. Like the guy above, doesn't want to play it because of business practices and assist gems. That's fine, but for people similar to that continually and blatantly just roam around the internet boards, blogs and video comments spewing the same b.s. is kinda nuts. The other worst games in Capcom history has not even gotten this much flack.

I play the game now and without the assist gems dominating the space I know why I'm losing matches. It's not random stuff you will get hit by in Marvel. There's way too many setups and stuff for people to completely know and memorize. In SFxT, much like SF4 it's literally chess and you can figure out what some pieces can do in some spaces and it's just fun for players to play but not fun to watch. Who wants to watch chess pieces move? The brilliance of the game is in the players heads and whats on the board.

no one really likes marvel...they just play what's popular. Same case goes for sf4.
You're not gonna go pick up blazeblue and end up being the only dude playing. Eventually you give in to the peer pressure and mash out for xfactor or wake up ultra.
This generation does not know how to stand by it's games properly. Too many of the newer guys following what the top players say. And since most of the top players "hate" this game they do too.

it's funny, when everyone was quick to name drop every top player not playing it was all golden. Then when the supporters said something the argument gets flipped to "well you shouldn't be worried about who does/doesn't support the game and stop dick riding and just play the game!" wait.... weren't you just saying xyz player doesn't play this game, so no reason to take it seriously. I haven't ever played this game so I can't tell you if it sucks or not from my personal opinion. However, I do know what its like to try to keep a game alive in tournies, I've been doing what I could to help keep some form of Street Fighter 2 alive and running at majors since 2010. So I know what its like to fight this uphill battle.

People with your type of attitude hurt the game the most. You like the game, but at the same time you deny that the game is dying when its obvious that its being dropped from most majors. Then you tell yourself, "everything is fine, it will work itself out, or someone else will fix this problem". There is not way this game can survive if the players don't support it. Sorry to break it to you, your game is dying bro. I don't even play this game but that's all I hear from players all around. You can let it go peacefully into the night, or you can rally all the remaining current players to show up and support the game you love.

I'm sorry that I singled you out bro. It's just because we deal with the same problem in our SF2/ST scene and it is annoying as hell. We get players that are local saying how much they love the game and this and that online, but can't be bothered to show up to a local major that only happens once, if we're lucky, twice a year.

OP, good luck with your project. The odds are definitely against you.

I'm glad Dieminion does support it and I'm glad he's enthusiastic about the game. The proper way to play the game wasn't illustrated to a wider audience by a pro until Tatsu killed it at NY 25th Aniv tourney. It's kind of like the saying "Sex sells" except with the FGC it's "Flash sells". Marvel has the practical flashy combo's that can kill you once you're touched. While SFxT has flash too but it's not practical because it's not used properly. People waste 3 bars on tag in combo's just because they look cool instead of realizing the damage gets scaled back. It's nothing wrong with wasting bars for a guaranteed kill to win the match if possible but that's almost never the case. This is where resets in SFxT comes into play, if the top players explored those more the game would definitely be as much fun to watch and fast paced because the resets most characters can utilize in this game can deplete your life way lower than 50% if your opponent guesses wrong on a 50/50. Evo could have been a good chance to see what individual pro players could do on the big stage of SFxT but 2 vs 2 pretty much killed that. Some players didn't have much chemistry with their partner(*Cough* Mike Ross *Cough* Combofiend)and cross assault which should be a very strong feature for 2 vs 2, wasn't even utilized to it's full potential. I would have loved to see great individual play with their teams at Evo but it wasn't set up that way so it is what it is. I think SFxT has one last hurrah in it and that might be the one that cements its place in FGC for years to come but who knows. The online community still supports it so to me it's not dead until the day I go online and that *Searching for players* keeps searching and searching and finally say's *Cant find lobby*. As far as big tournaments go I don't think it'll be gone....not just yet. Rumors are just what they are....rumors.

it's not a TO's fault if a game is dropped because not enough participants. no one is being unfair to you. instead of making threads complaining about the haters, make threads showing us really cool stuff that will make other people want to play it. that's how you'll save this game, not making posts about "omg the people who hate this game are so dumb they just want another SF4" or "the TOs never gave us a chance." make videos about how to beat jab pressure, or how matches can work within the clock limit, or just showing you doing cool shit. that's the kind of thing I as an outsider to the game would care about.

I think it's pretty obvious that the hate is misguided just by looking at this thread. Not one speck of hate, no one saying: "it would be good if...". Most people are wondering where the hate is coming from.

I'm loving this game, and I'm clearly not the only one.

A lot to read but I think the primary reason why people did not support it, (which is why I quit the first time) was the overall marketing for the game. I do not agree with anything from a market standpoint of how they handled this game. I know a lot of people were ditracted from that. But when you look at it, now is the perfect time to get back in (which is what I did LOL). I thought to myself "Oh my Capcom Code came in my e-mail...well I returned Cross but at Game Stop its 19.99!" I asked my store director (at my game who Im good friends with) And the reason why Cross Tekken is so cheap is not because the game is "bad" or the community does not like it, its because if you buy all of the mandatory DLC it turns out to be a "full price" game. A lot of people dont understand that. I think now is a perfect time than other to re hype this game up.

If the money match between Sethlolololol(i dont know how many fucking Lolis are in his name) and I goes down I think it would be good because people want to see shit like that, you know? If a hype ass money match (That is most likely going to last and hour and half) happens, people will get interested into playing and such.

A lot of wheels have to be turning to get the players back. I think the main priority is to get the players BACK to the game. Top players like the game (Even Sanford Kelly likes this game which amazes me) but theres a lot of community work we have to do to ressurect it.

I feel bad that it took DLC and a Patch for me to come back, this community is mad knowledgeable but I think just the gaps in knowledge are there because there are not enough people playing the game.

I'd be alright if people were like i hate this game because i feel that it isn't my cup of tea so on and so forth

I understand the meaning behind these threads but it gives these people who feel the need to express their unwanted opinions (especially that dude that whores his bro's name to get fame) to hijack. We know the game isn't dead; we're still playing it

You're incredibly stupid. I never said I was forced to buy anything. I bought the game because, at the time, I wanted to support it.

There are no DLC characters in this game. They are only locked characters there to take more of your money. You don't download anything when you buy them. It's only reasonable if you're stupid. Regardless, their "fix" to assist gems still leaves them as stupid game mechanics. They still offer more powerful versions of existing gems for money, which goes against the #1 fundamental of fighting games. The only reason you don't want my opinions is because you are too much of a pussy to accept that there are people that don't like your game.

If you enjoy SFxT, fine. I don't care. But grow a fuckin' pair and learn to accept that not everyone is willing to suck Capcom's dick regardless of what they do with their games. Peace.

Seriously, why hasn't anyone collaborated and made a "Debunking The SXT Myths" video? Like the concept would be pretty simple, just take a poll of everyone's most hated reasons for not playing the game and visually SHOW people the ways around some of the worst offenders. Jab pressure, Low damage, Cross hurricanes, etc etc etc.

I am down to help with the release of that type of video.

Had another thought:

If you want this game to survive then, lets all create SELLING POINTS for the game. WHY is it good, why should people play it, this game just a need a strong positive pr push lol.

SFxT isn't going to "die", but I doubt it's going to stay relevant at major tournaments. For me... I had fun playing the game... but there are just way too many bad business practices surrounding it for me to support it. Paying for stronger gems, no way to disable gems, locked content... I just can't support this stuff. If it becomes the norm, it'll kill the genre for me.

Keep parroting the already de-bunked issues you have with the game.
At MK9/KoF rates ($5 per character) we would pay $60 (or $45 at the warrior bundle rate) for the characters we got. $20 for 12 characters? Atrocious. And how dare Crapcom/Cashcom keep us from manually downloading all the characters ourselves.
Ask the top and serious players if they've paid for any gems. If you don't like the pay-for-gems thing, don't... pay for them :eek:. If you need further explanation of this, feel free to ask.

A PR push is a good thing; I think the game is good enough to survive on it's own merits (unless I'm raging ). I would prefer if the haters leave though... There are a lot of stupid people, with severely diminished critical thinking/comprehension abilities, who I wish would just get lost.

Consensus opinion is that the game just isn't fun. I found it incredibly boring with no redeeming qualities I couldn't find at least 10x better in another game.

Some people are ignorant, sure. But most people, including me, have genuine reasons for not liking this game. It's just bad. Sorry. But that's the majority opinion.

Then we'll have to do it on our own, with our own players support. I understand you have EWGF at will? Perhaps you could create that EWGF X5 video for us, and then practical ways to combo into it. Would you be up for that?
