As a guy who is extremely green when it comes to fighters, I've finally decided to step-up from P4U into some of the more "hardcore" games in the genre. Trouble is, I'm having trouble choosing what my first bicycle without training wheels should be, so to speak. My options are: Third Strike, SSFIVAE, SFXT, and BBCSEX. Ideally, I'd like to take it slow and choose the one that would be the easiest to become proficient in. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
[ SSFIVAE ] : Guy, Evil Ryu
[ SFxT ] : Lars / Ken / Guy / Steve
[ SFIII ] : Ken

if you are still a beginner in Persona, it will not make that much of a difference to become familiar in either Blazblue or Street Fighter anyway.
I'd pick AE, mainly because it has been stable without any patches for many months, so you will not have to change tactics all over again.
Third Strike is not arcade perfect, SFxTekken awaits new patches and DLC and Blazblue will move to Chrono Phantasma

But if you want a game where it's easiest to get proficient in: SF4/SfxT. Although you should play a game you find fun to play instead of a game where it's easy to get decent.

And Sf4Ae is the easiest game you can learn, if you learn quick like me you can probably blow up some players that have playing since regular super in 6 months if you focus on perfect practice and not just practice.
But third strike is also a sick ass option..

Pick what you want. Do some research on the mechanics and watch some match vids to see how they play and think of what you would like to do when you play a fighter. This also plays into character choice. If you like to fly through the air and do mixups and 100 hit combos, then playing sf4 guile might not be the best idea.
After that....
Find people that you can get along with that like whatever game after that and play them offline. Online tends to be full of lag and shenanigans that don't necessarily work offline. It isn't the best representation of a game either and can sour perception of the game. Find people that are good and close to you online and add them to your friends list (in addition to your offline group). In fighters you need good competition and lots of practice to stay good.
Note: For 3s, I do suggest that you own a version of it on console but when it comes to versus time, GGPO. With my experience there doesn't really seem to be anyone online, but I do own the PS3 version of OE so your experience may differ.

As much as I no longer care about SFIV, newcomers really can't go wrong with it. Get AE and branch off from there.

if your experience is limited to p4a i wouldn't suggest 3s. unless you REALLY like the characters and feel of gameplay. if you're just lukewarm about it, i wouldn't bother. imo get another asw game like blazblue or guilty gear. both are good. both are around the same price. go with whichever seems more awesome to you.
