Damn you undamned. Even though I cheated looking at the brackets, I missed you. I spent a good 30 mins or so hanging out and chating about your supergun too. I might not have enough money to go evo next year. Owe too many people drinks. Speacial shout outs to undamned for solving the logistics problem of ST tourneys. I have this really eerie feeling im still leaving people out.

Only in the ST scene would we see a bunch of dudes drunk dialing a guy at 3am in the morning, lol. Wish we could've seen papasi's face when he heard that voicemail the first time.

Would be dope if he put that voicemail on youtube so we could all hear it again.

I bet you he was so touched that he cried tears of happiness.

I really enjoyed the ST games. These tournaments are getting better and better. Better recordings, better setup, more players, etc. However, if my feedback is worth anything, there are few things I missed compared to the 2012 ToL:

    1) Having the finals of ToL up on the stage was giving it more hype and make it look more like another EVO game setup instead of a side tourney. It also seems a better setup for the crowd to watch and cheer on players.
    2) Playing the ToL finals at a later time in the day seemed to help to have the players focused on ST and not have any schedule conflicts with the other games at evo, specially for the japanese players.
    3) I missed not seeing the french players that showed up last year and their involvement (everyone remembers the documentary). Was x-mania europe counting as a qualifier this year?

As a side note, everyone praises the hard work of the organizers for making the ST games so amazing but during the tournament many players were giving the organizers a hard time having them to chase people to be on time and follow the schedule. I didn't have that feeling watching the other evo games and I think players should help more on that aspect to keep ST a successful tournament.

Sorry if I got something wrong. I wasn't there in person and I can only give my feedback as online spectator.

Update: As I say in a later post the list of things I liked is way longer but they have already been said by other people. Congrats to strevival crew to make such a great event for ST fans!

Easiest solution that would please almost everyone -> a decent port. That is, the DC version of ST running on a PS4/XBOX.
Difficult part -> get capcom involved. Whoever achieves that gets the golden egg and solves the problem for once and for all. Period ;)

We were very fortunate that EVO let us have the top 8 on stage last year. That's not going to be possible every year and there are too many newer games to compete with now to expect it to be on stage again.

Doing four tournaments in two days was very ambitious and we did pull it off but I think if we did another ST GAMES in the future, running three tournaments would be better. Four was a little too hectic and tiring both for the organizers and the players.

There wasn't a French "qualifier" this year, since ST GAMES wasn't a qualifier event but a tournament where everyone at EVO could enter. We would definitely welcome including a French (or other countries) qualifiers in the future though, if it applies to the tournament we are running. :)

Thanks for the feedback! Feedback from viewers and players are welcome as it helps us plan for next year.

    Shhh... ST in da house!

There's a lot of things wrong with your post but I don't have enough tine to break it down because im at work.

We all want ST on the main stage. It wasn't our choice. EVO decides who gets the main stage and who doesn't.

Thanks guys for the answers. Please take it as a feedback from a viewer. The list of good of things I liked is obviously longer but they have already been said by other people. This comes from a true fan of the strevival organization.

@dngr: I apologize again for the things I got wrong. I understand that many things don't depend on us (the ST crew and fans) and that we are limited by what EVO lets us do.

In other words, I am trying to give the typical 'feedback for improvement' that organizers usually want after an event. Please don't take it as if I am criticizing anyone's job :)

For those of you who watched the stream, what were viewer counts like? Were they noticeably higher for certain portions of the tournament than others?

I think there was one point on the second day with 13 hundred viewers or so. I don't remember how many they were during the grand finals. I saw the rest of the footage on replays but unfortunately you can't see the view count there :(

Wow, 1300? I think that's about double of what we were getting last year (non-top 8).

    1) Like previously mentioned, we're not in control of whether or not we get Evo spot time on the main stream. The primary issue this year was that there were NINE headliner games this year. Nine. That's unprecedented in Evo's history, and there was no way we'd get any time to shine on ST. We try to get ST up on the main stage, but since ST is such a niche game that draws in comparatively less viewers than in more modern games, it's always a struggle.

    2) Agreed. Unfortunatley, with this year's format, we had very little time to give everyone a break to focus on the game at a later time. 4 tournaments in 2 days is a pretty brutal affair that took its toll on everybody from the players, TOs, commentators, casters, and spectators. Time was in thin supply, so we tried our best to get done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

    3) We missed seeing them too. This year was an open tournament, so they were more than welcome to join us. But I understand that it's quite a significant financial and time investment to come to Evo. Special shoutout to PlanetRV from Germany. This was his first year at Evo, and he came to only play in ST. He has only been playing the game a few months, with some prior HDR experience, and most definitely enjoyed his time out here. It took him 30 hours of total travelling time to get from his home to Vegas, and I really enjoyed seeing that kind of dedication and passion.

As far as having to chase players down, it's a common problem. TOs would love it if players dutifully stayed the entire day and were ready to play their match at a moment's notice, but practically, it's not always going to happen. The majority of hold-ups for any and all tournaments, is trying to chase down players and have them run their matches.

I didn't watch the stream (obviously) but this site recorded that there were 2416 viewers by the end of the team tourney: http://beastnote.blogspot.com/2013/07/evolution-2013-day-2-summary.html

Yeah, I wanted to go. But, I just simply couldn't due to my injury. I wasn't even able to sleep in a bad at that time. However, I am healing up nicely. Still can't use a joystick well - but its only a matter of time.

Give my best to Miller Time.

    Thanks for the concern. :)

It was a freak weight lifting accident. I was tired and had a lot on my mind, so I wasn't paying attention. Which is normally the perfect combination for self injury.

I ruptured my pectorals major tendon.

I was in the middle of my set, 230x6x3 ( a reasonable weight and manageable ). I burned out in set 3 - I started re-rack the weight and I missed the hook by a fractions of an inch. This caused the bar to ricochet of the rack with a lot of force and velocity in an awkward angle. I tried to correct movement, but doing so put my arm in a awkward position and pop, there goes my pec - I ripped it right off the bone.

After they reattached the tendon, I couldn't sleep on a bed b/c it caused my arm to fall in certain positions that pulled on operated area, which was extremely discomforting. Anyway, its been 5 weeks since they reattached it, and I have bee working with my Physical Therapist and still slowly getting better. They say the total recovery time is 9 months to a year.

But, to be honest I am just happy they could fix it. There are many injuries that are much worse. So, I am gratefully that a full (or 90%/95%) recovery is expected.

Rumor was that you tore it doing some advanced yoga technique. I'd like to think it's the one that grants you the ability to do Yoga Inferno. Your version is far less interesting :(

ST Games was awesome, I caught most of the stream and glad to see all those tournaments go smoothly. Well the finals of one of them (the ratio tournament?) only showed the Damdai and Afro's faces as they played but no complaints- thank to Mando and guys for all the work streaming it! I saw MillerTime get really far in the brackets too, good job for a new player with Honda no less. But what happened with Kusumondo?! I just remember him blocking about 16 low tigers from Ultracombo at full screen, in two sets of the ratio tournament. I kept waiting for a hard punch headbutt but maybe the recovery time on the tiger shots are just too quick? In any case, Ultra did enough high tigers too to keep up the guessing game. And after all the tournaments leading right up to the grand final of the last one this year, you gotta love how razor close the medal count was between Damdai and Afro Legends. btw how do the medals get counted in terms of how many silvers equal a gold in terms of total points count?

Sorry to hear about the accident, fatboy, heal that up and hopefully we'll see you again by next year and more commentating.

    XSPR,

The points awarded worked like this:

    1st place (Gold) = 10 points
    2nd place (Silver) = 7 points
    3rd place (Bronze) = 5 points
    4th place = 3 points
    5th place = 2 points
    7th place = 1 point

I think Kusumondo was really tired the first day since he arrived the day of the tournament. He pretty much started playing in the tournament right after he arrived/checked in. Also, maybe his reactions are becoming old man reactions. :P
