Canelo was the last fighter that i thought had a chance to make a good fight with floyd

He froze under the lights and couldnt catch floyd.

After canelo all the fights were a joke. No one thought pac was gonna win.

Tbh before canelo i cant remember thinking "damn floyd might lose this". No one though de la hoya was gonna win...hatton maybe i dont remember the buildup to that one...ortiz and guerrero were jokes, you could see the speed difference just in the highlight vids loll

Well Floyd admitted that Canelo punched too hard. He said in the middle of round three or four he blocked a body shot and his elbow dislocated. I think Floyd respected the kid's power. But that kid is you (was younger then) and has never faced someone like Floyd. I mean most people end up looking silly when fighting him.

Maidana showed what could happen if you bully Floyd during their first match, and it was hype as hell. But for some reason a lot of folks still feel they can beat him at his own game.

Floyd ran during his fight with Maidana. If his style was done in other matches, he would of lost. Cotto was doing ok during the early part, he had more combinations but Canelo just dished more damage his shots. Cotto ended up running allot during the later parts but he tried to retaliate to no avail therefore the score went to Canelo. It shows that you can't just run and remain pending with out throwing something that is damaging because there is just no other way for the judges to point you. Sadly, Mayweather fans are that dumb and just ride along with somebody who is "undefeated" just so they can feel less like losers that they don't get how boxing operates. Defensive fighting requires effective retaliation, an example of that is Ali, SRL, and Holly Holm.

    It was pretty good fight.

Canelo definitely had the edge but not a huge advantage. Cotto's footwork was nice but you could literally hear the difference in power when Canelo and Cotto exchanged blows. Cotto definitely wobbled a few times, notably in round 8. Cotto really worked hard to protect his chin, I didn't see him extend it once the entire fight.

What really impressed me most of all was how superb Canelo's defense was, especially for a flat-footed fighter. His weaving was on point and at the times Cotto had to almost overextend to compensate.

Canelo's uppercut game was serious too. He had a lot of good setups. I thought 112-118 scorewas pushing it a little too much in Canelo's favor but regardless he definitely won that match.

If Canelo keeps this up and defeats GGG, his fight against Mayweather could be the only blemish on his record.

Anyone else laughed when the cameras kept cutting away to Cotto's wife's rack? They did it like 6 times and she started to adjust herself realizing what was going on.

I agree with every but the only O thing. This kid realistically has 8-9 years fighting at a high level (even after his lost he didn't really take a beaten. No one has really put it on him so longevity at this point doesn't seem like an issue). Odds are he will lose between now and then, just going by numbers and how boxing usually works.

You make a good point, it all depends on what the next generation of talent can bring. I guess I subconsciously feel there's been a steady decline in overall talent.

We also don't know how far Canelo will prolong his career, but his style of fighting isn't conducive to burnout.

I think the Charlo Brothers, Andrade, Quillen, GGG and Alverez should do their version of the super six we had a while back. It would have problems of course with the Charlo brothers prolly never fighting each other and the weight classes but I am sure they all can make 160.

There is a bunch of talent right there though and that is some shit I would pay for.

I didn't put Jacobs because that knockout still fresh in my mind, plus with his health problems I don't want to see anything bad happen to him lol. Quillen should run through him in a few weeks anyway. I don't care to see Lara or trout anymore.

I want to start up boxing mainly for cardio in 2016, any beginner tips?

the most I have been doing was shadow boxing in a sauna and hitting a bag in the gym, but I need a professional routine
If you are doing it for cardio, then I'd just find a caridio boxing class and join that. If you want to get into actual sparring then you are going to need to get in shape for that. You will also need a great deal of one on one time with a coach to get you ready for sparring. For me the hardest part was training to get hit in the stomach. Also if you spar much you are probably going to get your nose broken. But boxing will let you know your limits and how tough you really are. Everyone is a tough guy until they get punched in the face, lol.

@Shadow Ace - I would recommend finding a decent gym by you. when I started, I had to do a 5-7 rounds of jump rope as a warm up, then 5 rounds of shadow boxing, then 15 rounds of Heavy bag. Also our coach only did 30 second intervals instead of a minute. But I would recommend getting a nice jump rope and start with that until you find a gym and a coach.

    Good luck man.

Also I think what casual boxing fans want is something like Gatti/Ward trilogy. That was a battle for sure, but also look at how they looked after the fight. I can see both ends of why people don't like Floyd's boxing, but in reality dude is that good. Its easy for people to say he is running, but no one has been able to beat his boxing style. I appreciate Floyd as a boxer in the sense that its interesting to watch how text book he is with boxing. I mean any coach would love to have him as their fighter. Coaches want fighters who can hit without being hit. I think people get frustrated at how they see him in the media, so they equate that to being a shitty boxer.

Anyways I'm done. This will always be a classic match.

LOL. You can't say you hate politics and then give a political reason for why Canelo shouldn't move it. If you're going to fight at middleweight then fight at middleweight. Fighting at MW title @ only 155 is completely fuck absurd. Canelo is huge for 154 and GGG isn't particular big at 160, Canelo needs to stop being a bitch and either fight @ 160 or just say that he doesn't want the fight.

He fought cautiously and didnt even work the body all that much like we're used to seeing from Cotto. I don't know why that happened. Cotto seemed to think he didn't have to punch.

Just like what Cutwest said, "he learned from Mayweather". He probably thought that punching less and trying to move his body more would win points, i mean it used to be different.. even Mayweather sr started scolding floyd for doing that.. but since Floyd still won it may have gave Cotto a false idea that it would work for him too.

Who is watching the Klitschko v Fury fight tonight? I will try to some links on deck. I know @CUTWEST will come through as well.

Im watching for sure. My prediction is Fury gets KO'd. Hes big but doesnt have the skills needed to fight Wladdy

He didn't fight anything like Floyd in that fight at all.... Why does it always come back to this.... The reason Cotto didnt stay planted is Canelo was way bigger and way stronger. If Cotto had of sat and traded he would have got destroyed. He was trying to outbox Canelo and I think he did a good job, he didnt expect the bigger stronger Canelo to be able to move and box that well.... the fight was closer than the judging but Canelo still won.

    That's my two cents lol

Those links will be appreciated. I agree though, don't think he gets KO'ed but he lacks the skill to even open up the klits. I wonder if Wilder ever plans on fighting them or if he just wait for them to retire. There would be no shame in losing to the best heavyweights in the past 15 years. Wilder would fare better then Fury but don't think he can win right now.

Give that Mayweather hate a rest man, he's retired lol.

Wilder is a good prospect, but I think he isn't ready for Wlad just yet. Wilder hits hard and what not, but the level Wlad is at is pretty high up.

He fought a bit like floyd in the running part. He didn't fight completely like Floyd because Cotto tried to throw out as much as he could. During the 6 round and above, Cotto was on his bicycle and would come in with a few combinations here and there... the reason why the scoring was like that was because of Cotto playing a runaway game, it's not as abused as Floyd but still enough to make the judges give the scoring they did. The fact is, running is a hazardous strat to the point game and this only works with Floyd (as i have been saying), i really hope the dumb ass floyd fans in this thread realize the real rules of boxing.
