I didn't want to believe it but it appears the Japanese are still way ahead of the US in ST. Can't help but give props to MAO though. What a monster. He has to now be considered the #1 undisputed worldwide champion of ST.

Any news of archival footage of the ST tourneys? Or Salty Suite action?

I think Damdai and Afro are definitely Japanese-level, but MAO and the others are so far ahead of the game. Just from a brief weekend of hanging out with them and talking to them, they know so much more about the game than we do, and hopefully the future interviews will showcase some of that.

We definitely need more stronger players from the US scene to help push each other to get to that level. It's possible, but difficult. We don't have the advantage of gathering the country's finest to play at the same arcade every single week like they do in Japan, so we'll have to rely heavily on communication, teamwork, and practice to close that gap.

Wow, I guess good players have trouble using SRKs on reaction, too (Cammy VS Zangief). Feel better about that, haha.

Nerves and tension tend to slow up hands, even for the best of players. Very difficult to control at times.

I watched most of it, and it was at least 600 most of the time. Even during world cup 3rd place game. The Japanese used another link, so we can't know the overall amount which watched the event.

Such a great show with the tournaments Kuroppi! Such a long list of dedicated contributors working together to make it all happen. I watched it all live and was impressed to see the stream hold up with the limited bandwidth Sergjiev had to work with. Good job to all the Arkadeum stream commentators, and it was great to see so many people. I think it is good to get many people because it makes it feel more like you're there. Huge shoutout to MrTuttle!

Thanks to you Kuroppi for all your hard work, for being such an instrumental figure in reviving ST at EVO, and for bringing us such awesome tournaments! お疲れ様でした!

Looking forward to more hype next year!

    EVO 2014 Xmania Finals Full 3 v 3 Super Turbo SF2
Team Japan 2 vs Team Special Forces starts at 48:25.

Many thanks to Kuroppi and everyone that brought us ST at EVO this year.
So many Japanese players! I still can't believe they came out.
    MAO with the swag! LOL
I was hoping to see Kusumondo and Kurahashi (blue Ryu), too bad they didn't make it.
Anyone know if any of the Japanese players will come out next year? Assuming ST at EVO comes back.

Kurahashi : jab (black) is my original ryu’s color but in japan people start copying me so I have to keep changing (now it’s fierce). This tournament is special for me so I go back to my original color in tol2

Wait, so this Kurahashi (Jab Ryu) is the same as the other Kurahashi (Fierce Ryu) is the same as the famous Guile player Kurahashi?
I thought it was 3 different players with the same name. LOL

Hanasi teaching tech monkey how to beat chicken wing with upkick - kara cancel a low forward into upkick, the low forward will make chicken wing whiff. he demonstrated it with a success rate of 1/4. it's not easy but when you get trapped frame tight and not much life left this could be your way out.

    Nice.

at 6am when we're about to shutdown the salty suite, hanasi and noguchi demonstrated how to do the neg edge DP/block OS. He said if you can pull it off, you have 1/3 change of getting a reversal, 1/3 blocking the dive and 1/3 getting hit. During the demo he can pull it off 30-50% of the time.

    How do you do this?

They were custom-made arcade stands courtesy of Sergjiev, same guy who runs the stream over at twitch.tv/Arkadeum. They're paired up with a PS360+ running Seimitsu LS-32s with Sanwa 30mm buttons with RG switches. They are delicious to play on, and nobody really had anything bad to say about it in terms of its performance.

And just by looking at Hanashi's hands, he was doing more than just do dp+half circle back. That technique has been known, and discussed, for at least the past two years since ToL1 when MAO showed us. A variant of this cross cut technique has been in use for awhile now, and even Choi uses it to auto correct DPs in SF4.

I wish I had noted this while watching. I tried looking up the data from the same site that was used to compose this nifty mapping of such data for Sunday's finals, but don't see it:
    https://public.tableausoftware.com/views/Evo2014FinalsDayViewerNumbers/Story?:embed=y&:display_count=no&:showVizHome=no
(in the visualization, up at the top you can click the gray boxes to get the mapping/annotations). UMVC3 finals peaked that day at 147,372 viewers, the most that day, incl. Ultra finals.

It was good to see everyone again; I had a ton of fun at this year’s Evo. Apologies that I didn’t make it to the salty suite but I was feeling like crap on Saturday and Sunday. Currently at home with a high fever :(. Congrats to all the people involved in organizing another amazing ToL event and I hope to catch you all again at the next big ST gathering.

Tol ii was awesome, just unfortunate about the stream quality. X-mania was insane, every second was thrilling. Mao was absolutely hilarious. He's the villain and not only knows it, but relishes it. The championship belt, the taunting, pointing, facial expressions, he's easily the most entertaining FG player I've ever seen.

Thx to all who organized and worked on this, keeping ST alive.

Easiest solution that would please almost everyone -> a decent port. That is, the DC version of ST running on a PS4/XBOX.
Difficult part -> get capcom involved. Whoever achieves that gets the golden egg and solves the problem for once and for all. Period ;)

the game is old, and it seems like its run is probably over, but thats on you guys to keep it alive! ST will never die so keep your head up! also i dont want to seem like i stopped by for self promotion, but we are holding an event in november and daigo is confirmed to be there so far. maybe you guys want to help organize more foreigners to come out and celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the daigo parry! up to you, contact me if you have any questions and nice to meet the new guys this evo and see old friends aswell!

Mike, I really thought you had MAO there. The "what if you went for one more tick throw" is still lingering in my mind.

If team OGSF beat MAO's team the whole crowd would chant "USA! USA!"

Regarding the event in November, what games will be hosted? I'd assume USF4 for sure ,and maybe SF3 (on cabs or console?) since it's about celebrating the daigo parry.?

I was rewatching that match last night and that was indeed one of those "what if?" moments - Mike, you came so close, and being totally out of practice at the game too! Would've been an epic upset.

It gave me a lot of food for thought on how to approach the Boxer vs Claw matchup as well. I've noticed that MAO has more trouble reversing jab->throw compared to cr.MK->throw. The j. jab anti-air to stop his wall dives was also nice which for some reason I don't see done too often.

Great to see another big event. But Japan still looks better, as they've been since, ever. They were not hampered by a non-character-lock tournament, or some of the other possible factors cited in previous years, such as the standard double-elimination format in the US. If anything, the big news seems to be Europe proving they have players "on the same level as" Americans.

Did they show you other characters than their mains, at all? Specifically Kurahashi (probably many characters, since he leveled up so many at Versus arcade's Ranking Battles), Mattsun or Noguchi's Fei?

The Europeans did fine. I like Orf's style, BTW.

I checked the streaming most of the weekend, and I noticed Mattsun having fun with his Cammy. He was messing up lots of commands, though (Jabs into super, hooligans, etc). There's a video of a Kurahashi MM against Mars, Guile vs Guile, too.

You gotta make a FB account. Even if it's just your gaming persona. Kuroppi won't allow me to send links to you. :)

going to be hosting cvs2, mvc2, st, and 3s of course. still debating on whether or not to throw usf4 on the side. all depends on initial interest and what not i suppose. cant have a half empty venue if that makes sense :)
