This thread wants me to install Konami Collectors Series: Castlevania and Contra for PC. To this day, I still haven't passed Aria of Sorrow, Circle of The Moon, Symphony of The Night and Chronicles yet, I've beaten Harmony of Dissonance.

POR looks like it might surpass sotn, something dawn of sorrow almost did, but not quite imo.

The Castlevania series will always be one of my favorite series. I have beaten every game that is out there. Can't wait Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Should be great.

Konami really needs to release a Castlevania collection that has all the NES, SNES, and Genesis games on it. And include Rondo of blood and release it in the states.

The Castlevania series is still my most favorite. Even over MGS and FF. I liked Lament of Innocence & Curse of Darkness ok, but ultimately I wish they would keep them all in 2D. It just doesn't feel right any other way to me. I know it'll never happen at this point, but I would still pay 50, even 60 bucks for a new 2D Castlevania game on a console. SOTN is still my favorite game of all time. POR is looking incredible though.

I've been out of the Castlevania loop for a few years, but I still think the series is great.

Dagger.

I'll rarely pick up Axe or Holy Water if I need it (or if I'm playing LoI), and I pretty much just try out the other ones and conclude that Dagger owns them all. The boomerang Crucifix is okay, too, but it costs too many hearts to use (as does the screen-clearing version in some games).

I've been a Castlevania fan since childhood and the last one that I played through was Lament of Innocence. Is Curse of Darkness any good? I see a bunch of gaming sites gave it some pretty low ratings. =\ I haven't played through SOTN though. <.< But Portrait of Ruin looks so awesome. I might get a DS just for it along with Dawn of Sorrows.

If you liked Lament of Innocence, you will like Curse of Darkness. It's almost like a longer, more robust Lament of Innocence but with a simplified (meaning shittier, since this is SRK, and we love our combos) combo system. It's still fun, though, and the Devil Forging system is pretty cool (and extremely useful).

Dawn of Sorrows is an overall great game, and I highly recommend it.

Symphony of the Night is the best game ever made, bar none.

i just pray that the new game has a better weapon system than dawn. i really didn't like that the enemies dropped rare.....food. other than that it was a close second to the greatest of all time, symphony

This music for this game already sounds like it will be better than DOS.

DOS had maybe 2 good tracks imo. Lost Village and Wizardry Lab.

Co-sign. I also didn't like how upgraded versions of your weapons were straight up better than their previous forms, leaving you no incentive to keep your old shit (or any upgrade system in general). One of the great things about the weapon system in SotN is that, even if you get a weapon with a higher attack rating, there are still others with different, and sometimes unique, attributes and abilities that make you want to try them all out (for example, Mourneblade is relatively weak, but it drains HP while Sword Familiar is really strong but that's it) until you get the Crissaegrim.

Plus, it also blows how you have to give up unique souls for certain weapons, forcing you to play the game again if you want everything.

There seems to be a lot of stuff that will cater to fans of the older games in the series.

Since the main character can't use souls (only skills), I'm sure that this game will be more weapon dependent. DoS/AoS were all about stealing the souls.

Also--

Richter or Julius-- which is the better Belmont? I've gotten into an argument with a friend over this, all sparked by the wikipedia entry on him--

I'm going with Julius as the strongest as well. I can't wait until there is finally a 1999 CV title. I mean he's THE one that supposedly destroyed Dracula for good. So I'm looking forward to that.

And yes the Black DS lite came out in early September.

Well I have been out of the Castlevania loop for a while so I guess I'll be picking of Curse of Darkness and then start saving for a DS to get DoS and PoR. Hehe.
