@AriesWarlock you can also consider Galaxy Note tablets. they have wacom technology. you can get a good Note 8.0 or 10 inch manufacturer refurburished for less than 200 bucks. but remember youll be on android not windows. theres also the samsung Ativ 700t for windows 10 with wacom. but that will cost you 300 used. but i hear Huion is dope too. good luck finding what pleases you

Thanks for the suggestion. I found that Ativ 700t for $400, used, on amazon. It seems responsive, though the screen looks too small for me.

lol. yea. i assumed you really like big screens based on your like of those 19 inch huion tablet vids. also. 400 is too expensive bro. always shop ebay for electronics.

my 12.2 galaxy note cost me around 100 bucks. a steal. cuz the seller was selling verizon store demo tablets that had the firmware set to demo. could only charge up to 30% max, the verizon logo would boot up every 5 minutes closing apps. couldnt install apps. it was unusable but i knew i could flash the og firmware on it. so i did. and made a unusable tablet like a brand new Note $900 tablet.

point is...ebay is where youll find a steal. if youre lucky. but $400 for a old model ativ 700t is no bueno. should not be costing over 300 used.

but huion is dope. its up to you. but to pay 400 for a ativ when the bigger newer huion kamvas is 500...id go with the huion.

I will repeat my suggestion of a medium size bamboo tablet. I actually don't care at all about the 482928574 million points of sensitivity on wacoms pros. My friends who are also professional share the same sentiment. If anything, I think it hinders your progress as an artist and creates bad habits and a crutch to rely on.

You can probably get a medium bamboo tablet from 2 years ago anywhere from 150-200$. Hell, maybe even less. They will last you for years and you can do the same stuff pros are doing.

And while a bit cliche, it's the artist that makes good art with his tools. The tools won't make you a good artist...and they might even hurt you.

    agreed.
i remember when i was a young inexperienced artist i bought a ton of different colored oil paint and a slew of different brush types...and with time you'll learn you just need a few tubes and brushes.

that said, wacom isnt just about pressure sensitivity but precision. not that a tablet needs wacom to get precision. my LG Stylo 2 plus has amazing precision without wacom.
but i think he's just into really big screens.

someone bought the huion tablet i linked. i guess it was Aries.

im thinking about getting Corel Painter Essentials 5. anyone ever use Corel up in here? or Manga studio.

    edit:
theres a new art app on the playstore, called Pensoul.
claims it uses vector instead of bitmap.
    1. Artistic Vector Brushes
Compared to the pixel-distorting bitmap-based brushes, used by the competitor apps, Pensoul's vector-based brush maintains smooth vector lines even when magnified. Unlike other apps, Pensoul is capable of exporting drawings at ultra high resolution and scale, without losing it's original detail and quality.

    2. 1,000,000x Zoom
Pensoul drawings can be magnified up to 1 million times without graphic quality deterioration. Images can have a giant scale and fine detail on a single canvas simultaneously, thanks to its powerful vector engine.

i need to try this out.

To your first reply: Yea man I remember buying expensive gel pens and brushes for oil painting....now I use those 25 cent ballpoint pens and 3& oil brushes. Cheap sketchbooks cheap materials. They're better.

It wasn't me, but thanks for the ebay suggestion. I see they give you 12 month financing, that's pretty good!

i tried Pensoul. its a trip to zoom in and not see shit get pixelated. that said. everything about the app is too bare bones. its doo doo.

i also bought Corel Painter Essentials 5.
its dope but its gonna take me a long ass while to learn its menu/UI.
    dope brushes.
i need to learn the pdf guide. i think i'll print it.
im so accustomed to dealing with android based art apps and their simple user friendliness that dealing with a pc app is gonna be a pain.
like when i wanna move the canvas around i have to hit a button while in android art apps i just move the canvas around with my finger and thumb.
but im very happy with essentials 5 which is a simpler version of their main Painter series.

I like Manga studio. The newest version they added a quick...app like feature so you could download new assets or look at tips for free.
For the price point if you get it on sale for 60-80$ its worth it. EX PRO gives you animation tools which is nice too.

For digital drawing in general its pencil and pen tools are great and shit works but I'm not the strongest in terms of painting so it might be lacking a bit in that regard.

It's insane how many good artists are on Instagram, I swear some of them draw better art than what's on the official cover of games.

A lot of amazing artists out there, problem is that networking is such a powerful tool that it usually comes down to "Who you know" and not "What you know".

It is nice that it's speeding up a bit. I can never post my work due to contracts but I guess I'll slap my personal artwork here when. I do some. I'm planning on doing a portrait shot of Moira from overwatch and finishing it one sitting tonight. I do travel in the morning so I might not have the time to post it.

as you all have known for years, you can turn your phone/tablet into a virtual controller via wifi/bluetooth.
well just now i was thinking.
then i discovered that there are apps on the play store that lets you control your wacom android tablet like a wacom graphics tablet that is for your windows pc.
installed on both my note tablet and pc....aand bam. and my android note tablet becomes a wacom graphics tablet for pc.

there are a few on the playstore but the one that worked for me was virtualtablet lite

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunnysidesoft.VirtualTablet.lite&hl=en

you can use on any regular tablet/stylus....but it wont work like a graphics tablet+wacom stylus. it'll work like a mouse. meaning the stylus control the cursor when touching the glass but you haveta hold down the virtual left click button to create lines. or click a icon on your art app.
but a android wacom tablet ....your andoid tablet becomes a windows wacom graphics tablet.

i should mention i used bluetooth cuz my desktop tower doesnt have wifi, which is prefered.
on bluetooth its a tad laggy. just a tad. depending on which device you use. at first i used my note 12.2 but hell naw. lagfest.
then switched to my note 8.0 and worked very well.
not perfect. still a tiny amount of lag.
on wifi it might be faster.

i need to get a usb wifi adapter

in settings....choose the smallest canvas size which is 60%. smaller the virtual canvas on your tablet the better, faster, more responsive the wacom cursor is on your pc screen.

but you cant reposition those into different poses like the japanese figures tho. pointless.

also...for those unfamiliar with Medibang. which is a great art app. its on iOS, Android, and Windows/Mac. and its free.

i personally use Infinite Painter more than any other, just my preference. but its not free.

If you guys can afford to find life drawing sessions(which are usually really cheap) I'd recommend doing so. it's one of the most underused resources out there. Static figures are really good if they're high quality and you can articulate them, but there is a limit to what you can get out of them.

^Second this. Check with local colleges. Not only do you get better poses due to them ACTUALLY being humans and affected by gravity like a real human (balance etc, not just saggy bits) but it forces you to get better quicker. An action figure won't get tired and need to move so you may end up over working a single piece rather than trying over and over to get different poses right the first time.

Is that Archimedes from The Sword in the Stone?

    Yup yup.
This is what we had to work with
    e565bf19a19d7c2c87477c0f4c5f4bc5--cartoon-birds-cartoon-sketches.jpg

Granted, we were told to watch Sword in the Stone to grasp a better way in drawing the character. I didn't bother... and I paid the price with shame...

It's nice to see this thread still going. I would have contributed more if my life wasn't so fucked up right now. Anyway here are some Instagram pages you should all subscribe to, or at least look at if your serious about concept art.

If you guys are really serious about concept art I'd suggest taking some lessons at Art centre. Check the first Instagram link at the top, he's a teacher at Art centre. I would have taken one of his lessons a long time ago if I lived in the US, unfortunately right now in Europe we have nothing like this.

It's all good, glad you made the thread to begin with.
In the mean time, seems like Bluth is giving us a 2 week break so no animation assignments. Guess time for personal project mode.
Otherwise, hope the holidays work out for everyone.
