Hey Ansatsuken followers!

As announced on-stage during the PlayStation Experience keynote, Akuma, the Master of the Fist, is the first Season 2 DLC character for Street Fighter V! Hit the jump to check him out in action!

A staple of the Street Fighter series ever since his secret appearance in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Akuma is a savage, but well-honed Ansatsuken master consumed by the Satsui no Hado. Akuma represents the danger Ryu faces if he is unable to control the Satsui no Hado within him, and while Akuma appears to have some set of morals, he believes the highest form of battle is that in which participants put their lives on the line.

Akuma returns to Street Fighter V, displaying his mastery of Ansatsuken and while he has become burlier than previous games, he possesses quick footwork and devastating combos. He has a wide array of destructive tools and is able to completely out-class opponents with his oppressive pressure. His moves and stances often strike poses reminiscent of Buddhist statues and Ukiyo-e paintings.

V-Skill: Rakan
Akuma strikes a defensive stance and similar to Ryu’s Mind’s Eye, can parry an incoming attack. He can follow-up the move with an upward kick or a long reaching palm strike.

V-Trigger: Dohatsu Shoten
Akuma powers up and envelops his body with ki to enter Dohatsu Shoten mode. In this mode, his Gohadokens are more powerful, now able to travel full-screen and he can unleash two in the air even while jumping backwards. Additionally, when he lands his Goshoryuken attack, he follows-up and violently drives his opponents into the ground.

Critical Art: Sekia Koretsuha
Akuma channels an incredible amount of ki into his palm and drives it into the ground, striking the opponent with an exploding pillar of fierce energy.

Critical Art: Shun Goku Satsu
Only accessible while in Dohatsu Shoten mode, Akuma’s most powerful attack returns. He glides towards the opponent and grabs them, resulting in a series of devastating strikes in the blink of an eye.

    That may not be Akuma we all know ... two reasons:

    1. Asura's statue in the background might refer to the battle in Asura's Wrath.

    But didn't that battle end up being Oni vs Asura, not Akuma?

    2. The kanji refers to being "god-like" as PVL mentioned points to Oni as well .. Since Oni means "Devil"

    Shin Akuma is gonna be awesome because it makes you wonder what his V-trigger and V-skill will be once they're implemented, does he become Oni (isn't Oni the final form of Akuma from completely being taken over using the satsui no hadou etc..) or gains some of his move sets or even gaining one of his super combo moves ?......either way i don't care i'm just glad he's coming to the game.......SHUNGOKUSATSU !!!!!

    Look at the teaser again, when he's showing his back to us. There's dangly red bits on the top left of the screen by his shoulder.

    Given he's most likely looking back to us facing to the right, that might be a ponytail he's rocking. He had two alts in SFIV with it, I wouldn't be surprised.

    I don't play this turd but I care enough about SF to need him to:

    1- Not have white hair and a skirt as it breaks SF3 continuity (Bison shotgunned this go away!)
    2- Not be Oni as it breaks SF3 continuity.
    3- Be far less of a shoto by adopting some of Oni's moves and then some.
    4- Actually try to be interesting and different because we already have the boss supreme, Urien's swag, Necalli's VT and Nash's edginess.

    That is all. Congratulation to his playerbase. I'm happy you're happy. Surely we can work something out. No hard feelings about stealing your Ryu Final ending, after all you stole pretty much everything.

    Make sure to increase your screen brightness until you can see everything clearly.

    1. In the upper left hand corner, just above Akuma's left shoulder, notice what appears to be strands of red hair. They've changed his look; probably grew his hair out.

    2. The rope handwraps and belt + clearly black gi + red hair + distinctive voice = regular Akuma, not Shin Akuma (or Evil Ryu), despite the different kanji on his back. Shin Akuma has white hair and a purple gi.

    No word obviously on whether his V-trigger will be Shin Akuma or anything of the sort, but this is clearly not Shin Akuma that we're seeing in the teaser.

    Thoughts?

    Need to take Tokido with a grain of salt. Tokido isn't really a character loyalist as he is a "tier whore" who prefers strong characters that aren't too complex. He only really stuck with Akuma in the IV series where he was consistently top/high tier. Remember that he used Chun Li in 3rd Strike and Claw in Super Turbo. If Akuma isn't stronger than Ryu in this game, I don't see him maining him long term.
    You can't ask for well-thought-out changes off day 1, week 1, or mostly even month 1 play...and that's when the game is out and everyone's in the lab.

    Well you have the opposite issue in ST where Akuma is too good to use.


    Yeah he just picks what is cheap, but he definitely has a bias towards shotos and whichever shoto is highest tier. He didn't hop on the Chun Li or Cammy train even though you could argue they are both cheaper than Ryu. You could argue Cammy to be even easier to use than Ryu.

    If Akuma proves to be high/top tier he's staying because Akuma is his favorite character and he's mentioned he likes how versatile his move set is for a shoto. Even if other top tiers arise he will stick with Akuma as long as high to top tier because he just fits his style. It's only if Akuma really starts crapping up will he switch.

    Japan was calling Ryu top tier early on though, which also likely influenced his decision.

    CvS2's too tiers after stuff like Roll Cancels had been discovered and A-Groove had been optimized was Bison, Sakura, Vega, Blanka.

    Tbf, Shin Akuma having white hair in continuity didn't happen until his SF3 2nd Impact appearance, while in his SF Alpha 2 appearance he still had red hair, just a different coloured gi.

    So if they really wanted to, he can still be Shin Akuma, just with red hair.

    Akuma in Visual Design Aesthetic (Non-Gameplay)

    i. The SHADOW/SHADES

    Akuma normal mode shadow/fog shaded face like Dio in Bandai game. This would brings back that nostalgic feel of spectator and mysterious into Akuma.

    The shade or darkness in facial lessen during Shin persona because of the activation of his AURA the red stuff .

    Akuma "Shin" mode aura surrounded purple and red with less fog or shadow in the face.

    ii. The BERSERKER

    Then change his palm gestures into literally making him feel more of a BERSERKER than Ryu that is a Boyscout.

    Make him do throwing to emphasize his ways away from Ryu and Ken. It does also give him a casual feel to power than the other Ansatsuken Practioner.

    iii. The AURAS

    I observe the lack of aura from Akuma and Shin Akuma that appear in Evil Ryu. I think the Aura should emphasize something different and interesting like Kairi in SFEX. Capcom should make the aura as way to distinguish or differ Akuma from Shin Akuma.

    I like how Kairi in SFEX hands glow when his EX-Gauge had MAX up! it's interesting to Akuma have something applied in him. We all know despite the slight visual standout difference of Akuma and Shin Akuma in SF4 and ST(not CvS2 and SvC) is only their Zankuu Fireball.

    Kairi is rather special. When he has a super meter, his attacks are
    given a slight boost. His fists burn with spiritual fire. The first
    time I saw that I thought it was rather cool. Observe carefully and
    you may notice that the damage increases ever so slightly again and
    his fists burn with a larger flame when he gets another bar. What's
    cool is when he reaches level 3. His fists start to really BURN. He
    stands differently, and he sets his opponent on fire after each and
    every hit. You may also notice that his Ma Ryuu Rekkou becomes more
    powerful and multi-hitting. The flames can not be generated for the
    rest of the round once he does his Shou Ki Hatsu Dou. After abit of
    testing, I've discovered that Kairi can negate most projectiles and
    super projectiles with normal attacks when he controls the flames.

    Isn't Kairi great? ^_^

    If ever they would put a special boost with the Aura activation let it his default Zankuu Hadouken gain follow up properties (Non-Auto) like to Yuri Sakazaki of KOF/AOF Kuuga (Yuri Chou Upper) in "C" button that can be followed up by another version Ura Kuuga (Double Yuri Chou Upper).


    iv. The TATSU

    Let make Akuma style of Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyakyu more craftiness by using the left leg to show it's to multi-hit better than Ken and not intentional blow hit finisher like Ryu.

    v. The FIREBALL

    Let make Akuma style of hadouken more casual to power like DBZ shooting stuff by changing his to hands to have a slight tilt than Ryu and Ken with slight a like of Demitri's previous projectile stance but not so similar.

    EX Shakunetsu Hadouken/Hadoken is a 3 hit tamed version of Messatsu-Gohado Agyo from UMVC3 Akuma.

    Instead of traditional Shakunetsu Hadouken or Hadoken with more hits change it to 3 throwing fireball inspired from Messatsu Gohado Agyo.

    ii. The DRAGON PUNCH

    How to Un-shoto - I made his ground game less responsive with poor ground zoning tools and more start up but gives more multi hiting combos. This will separate every version of ansatsuken practioner and him to heavily play to his technical aerial zone game.

    i. The Ground-Zoning

    Remove his basic ground Hadouken and make Shakunetsu Hadouken his only option to perform ground based projectile. This would decrease and differ his ground zoning advantage and responsiveness than Ryu and Ken because he would have more start up but he would be rewarded with more projectile advantage than the others.

    ii. The Aerial-Zoning Advantage

    First we should change his traditional Aerial Hadou ... to less exploitable in zoning advantage that is not healthy for SFV.. Then the range, arc and adjacent is toned down like SFA Akuma is changes in SFA2 Akuma. This would force others not always depend on the convenience of jump and shoot. The speed of the projectile depend on which the button pressed.

    By adopting his SFEX type of Aerial Projectile/Zanku Hadouken but not adding the cancellable the tenmakujinkyaku instead as a follow up move. Because SFEX Akuma aerial zone game isn't exploitable than his other counter parts. Making it like Bison's Head Press but instead can be followed up by two moves depending on button pressed.

    Down + Punch Button it is followed by a lighter version of Tenma Shurettou/Oni's Ground Pound

    Down + Kick Button it is followed by a Tenmakujinkyaku

    Shin Version - has the Dual Aerial Zakuu Hadouken(not auto but follow up) with the same properties of how Yuri Sakazaki of KOF/AOF Kuuga (Yuri Chou Upper) in "C" button that can be followed up by another version Ura Kuuga (Double Yuri Chou Upper).


    Not expecting something that would change a lot of Akuma because of the fans demands of a Ryu or Ken playstyle(minus the super) with air projectile dominance and zoning superiority than Ryu and Ken but can play alot like them. This is just my take on a new Akuma to be far from Ryu and Ken but keeping his techniques intact but slightly altered his aerial and EXs.

    I myself do take advantage a lot of Akuma's aerial game in many of his different versions but I do enjoy the most is the approach from his SFEX counterpart. The enjoyment of using it is not about the dominance but from the execution and the play style. IMHO
