    Ryu just isn't as dependent on his fireball as people make it out to be. People who say that must only play Super Turbo or SFIV.

    Ryu has been in plenty of games where his hadoken isn't that relevant to his strength. You basically don't need it other than the EX one in 3rd Strike, in Alpha 3 he honestly threw a lot more buttons than fireballs and then tried to fish for CC, in TvC he was mostly generic air dash pressure and in Marvel 3 there were certain matchups he didn't even really have any reason to use it in.


    If Ryu is going to be good there's a lot of ways he can be good. Whether he is good or bad isn't necessarily determined by the fireball on its own. The way this game is going he could have a bad for reasons that have nothing to do with his fireball, or even be good for reasons that have nothing to do with his fireball.

    His hadouken here should have something like his EX version Hadouken in Sf4 and Sf5 that has better durability, even projectile from normal attacks, lasers and bullets that is multiple hitting easily intimidate Ryu attempt response along with this projectile deflect they'll just deflect it then follow with whatever superior projectile response that Ryu will easily controled because of the lack of mobility options like air dash....

    Cable and Cyclops had multiple jumps and no one questioned it.

    His shoryuken and tatsu is an obvious that made him predictable that he needs to depend to tagswitch to make it safe yet it make the whole playstyle predictable that cost your red life of recovery and expose your partner just to protect Ryu.

    Buff Chris, he has to reload every 3 magnum shots. Very predictable and vulnerable, while Ryu gets infinite hadoukens. He also has no invincible reversal to deal with rushdown and crazy mixups which they gave Ryu. They want Chris to be the Yamcha of Marvel, I can feel it.....

    Alright, man. If you're serious about this: what evidence do you have that Ryu is bad right now? I'm not even talking about the final build anymore, but the most recent build of the game. Because his fireballs can be reflected? Because he can't fly or airdash? Whatever the case, it's just an opinionated assumption for one major reason: we still have no idea what really matters in this game.

    None of the Ryu footage we have seen so far feature 2 players who actually know how to play the game. Do fireballs matter? Does flight matter? Maybe zoning ends up really weak in this game due to low chip damage and reflectable projectiles. Maybe having flight mode is not as strong due to a lower stage ceiling. I'm using a lot of "maybe"s here because that's all we really have. As much as you want to believe that you know how Ryu is going to play, you just don't. You have no real evidence, just assumptions based off his current movelist compared to other characters designed to play differently. If you really love Ryu, you'd save your judgements for after you personally have tested him and tried to take advantage of his tools, or at least until someone who actually knows how to use Ryu demonstrates his potential properly. If you still feel he's weak after that, then others will be willing to listen to you.

    The command list and playthrough is there. His sole projectile is deflected it is DEMO, We got an IDEA you just want to deny for him to compromised to your biases.

    His UMVC3 powerups/installs have been all remove while the other characters have been improve and change. Thats another IDEA!

    Lol, forever missing the point.....no one is refuting the facts. Yes, hadoken can be reflected. Yes, he no longer has that shitty install. He doesn't have the crazy invis or rapidfire hadokens either. That's not what this is about though. The underlying question is what does that mean? And with what we have now, the answer is we don't know. Adding and subtracting moves does not mean buffing or nerfing when moving between 2 different games. UMVC3 She-Hulk has more moves than Vanilla.....I hope you know where I'm going with this. If you can't look past the superficial stuff, I don't know what to tell you.

    You just want the game to be judge on retail when adding moves and abilities isn't possible thats when the hopeless part.

    Looking back from the your past comment you didn't care about RYU's usability you contradict yourself. You have many misleading claims that never exist in the first place.

    Back is a weird word because he's never had one in Marvel. TvC he didn't have an air dash to his own. It was just a generic mechanic in the game that every character has. If Cable was in TvC he would have an air dash too.

    In Marvel having an air dash or flight is a specific move or trait per character. One that Chun has had since XvSF but Ryu never has

    Olaf's Google doc has been updated with why he thinks Ryu is fine.

    Okay, people keep asking me why i think hes good.

    Think about Ryu’s damage. Pretty good right?
    Think about everything that makes Ryu suck in marvel. Tag fixes it, and some of it becomes good. Tatsu goes from a bad move, to an amazing block pressure tool.
    Shoryuken becomes safe, or a combo starter.

    Besides that, Mister Average only got one notable new tool that I’m aware of: Hadoken is chargeable into a beam special. Because reasons. IDK, i guess its cool that it's not reflectable? *shrug*
    Oh, and as far as the Satsui no Hadou version of Shin Shoryuken?
    I’m 99.9% sure it's based on him having low health.
    What I don’t know is if it deals any extra damage or has any real value whatsoever.
    You can't ask for well-thought-out changes off day 1, week 1, or mostly even month 1 play...and that's when the game is out and everyone's in the lab.

    The fact that the game's more footsie-based now, assists are out, and everyone has an otg means Ryu is viable in this game. I also agree with everyone say his moves will do well in Infinite's system mechanics.

    If tri-dashers/flight characters didn't exist in this game, he'd be upper tier. But as it stands, he's got as many tools as any other none air-dash character. And seems good to tag off.

    Shoryuken is certainly useful. Does tatsu carry like Akuma or is it one hit kd?

    This whole reflector thing seems really dumb. Beams are so much better than projectiles anyway, why push them further apart? Morrigan hardly will even care.

    Got a couple combo videos with ryu that should come out pretty soon. Hopefully by the end of the week. Health is kicking my ass and busy wtih doctor stuff so gonna be a bit delayed on putting up all my videos for this game.

    That being said, the tech buffer in this game seems pretty severe, pretty hard to get a lot of cool combos, got people even teching sweeps, falling through supers half way, etc... Seems like they took away a lot of stuff he could do in the last game, and they sorta just threw a bunch of stuff at a wall and its your job to put it together. Cant say I ever played or made a combo video before in all my years where it felt like I was just mashing the whole time. Pretty awkward feeling game.

    That being said as well, it does appear combo wise, although the width and height of characters standing is different. Juggle wise although visually things look different, for the most part combos seem pretty standardized trouble finding a lot of character specific combos, and most ideas seemed to work vs most characters no matter how big or small they were.

    It is. It beats meaties on wake up.


    Couple things I'm liking about Ryu so far is that firstly his ground movement is great. He has what is probably the best backdash in the game coupled with a pretty good wave dash game. Which is important since all the air flight plink stuff is gone. Don't even need to wave dash backwards with him because the backdash is just that OD. He travels like 3 or 4 character lengths away in half a second. If people can find some solid KOF short hop stuff with him he may be pretty solid movement wise. At least as far as stuff that's not super jump height relevant.


    His charged HP beam also seems really good. Gonna be great as a generic way to lock up the screen and then tag your partner in. Plus can't be reflected as a beam. Most interesting thing about it is how quick it is to charge. Pretty much if you hold HP down for like less than half a second it's ready to go and comes out relatively fast after the release. The beam locks up the screen almost as soon as you let go of HP.

    Yea ryus seems to collectively have a bunch of good tools. They just aren't your normal top tier marvel tools. I feel someone will eventually break out in the marvel scene with a ryu team that does well.

    I saw some youtube video that detailed some pretty interesting corner combos using Vertical Shinku Hadoken as a quasi-launcher, left the opponent in hitstun long enough for him to launch them again and do another one, or a meterless follow-up.



    If you're looking for a kill and got the meter to spare, this looks to be an almost automatic way to finish someone off.

    Can we start a regular ryu thread? I feel this thread is hard for people to get tech in with all the debating and old theory arguments before the game was released.

    I really enjoy playing him right now. I think his mobility is pretty good and charged hadoken actually is pretty useful.

    Also air downward tatsu is super fun to use!

    What I don't understand is for a character described as a "beginner friendly" character they gave him such a crappy st.hp. It constantly whiffs if you try to do the standard magic series.

    It really doesnt do that much more, if you even watch my video I just posted. maybe stand alone you get another chunk, but when you are actually doing combos, you get like piddly extra damage. We are talking like 500 points a lot of the time. 1000 maybe max....Its pretty disappointing. Just think of it as adding another regular attack on thats all.


    Anyway still flabbergasted about how much stuff they took away from him. I mean you cant even tiger knee anymore. Its like every single crazy combo, weird link etc was just removed. No more loops from the old game nothing.

    You basically just kinda mash, do your wall bounce, ground slide, regular OTG, put them together in some shape or form and call it a day. All do comparable damage.
