Ronin: me = crazy. known fact in girl thread. I think Phil was right.

anyways, I started summer school today.. MAN my prof had to have been an elementary teacher. she made us write our name and explain it so everyone else can learn it.

"Hi. my name is Jeanatte. its a french name. means generous. I don't know who named me but the nurse that wrote it down spelled it wrong (dumb bitch) hence the 'a' and not an 'e.' I don't like my name cuz its waaaaay too formal and as you can tell, I'm not. you can call me Jen but only 2 people can call me Jenny or Jenna and sadly none of you are those 2 people. thank you"

that's a tough one Rubes. well, I know not everyone is up and willing to move to a town with a decent arcade as their sole reason for relocating. "recruiting" others in your area might help re-ignite that competitive spirit in you. it'll give you a chance to practice with others as well as teach & learn.

we all have to prioritize our time and effort in everything, including gaming. some weeks games are at the top of the list, some weeks they're no where to be found on that list. If you can make the time each week to play, then I encourage you to do so. Don't just quit simply because you're the only person playing in your town. Getting burned out on a game is normal. By all means play other games too, but go back to MvC2 after a while and see if you're still tired of it or not.

if you can make it to some of the larger tourneys this summer, even as a spectator, this might also give you some encouragement to keep playing.

ultimately it's your decision to stick with it or not. and I'd hate to see anyone quit playing altogether. :(

Sakura- some places wont let you rent even if youre 18. You have to have records of good credit and parental permission/cosign, etc,etc....I know. It sucks. Your supposed to be an adult and pay taxes and work and be a good member of society - and you cant even fucking drink or rent a car!

Rubes - hon, I completely understand. I everyone hits a wall at some time or another. Just give it a break for a while, and come back to it. Maybe you need to find a disciple to the game, and focus on that for a while. If I lived near you, Id volunteer, but I think Im going to wait for the next game to start on like SakuraF once suggested.

Weeks - dont look smug! I'll perform an act of violence against you!!!

Tacochan - your full name is gorgeous! It sounds like it should be a name in Tank Girl or something (maybe cause it kinda sounds like "Jet"?) Anarchy driven super heroines of the world UNITE!!
I hated my name when I was younger. People would mispronounce it all the time or tell me they were expected an exotic tall african girl instead of me. I think Ive kinda grown into it. Maybe they dont get someone exotic, but they do get someone a little odd. The names gotten more popular because people in the Netherlands and Sweden and Germany have been naming their daughters (and cats) "Misha", but people still always say it "Mis-sa" instead of "Mee-sha" ...oh well. Its cute though, my boyf's neice cant say my full name so she's yell "SHA! SHA!! COME HEEEEERRRREEEE!!! BYE BYE!! I LOVE YOU!!!"

    She's so cute, its criminal.

Jeanatte is a fucking dope name, even if it is spelled wrong. You try intimidating people with a name like "Phil"....why do you think I chose such a dark alias to go by in the SF community? My name doesn't fit me at all IRL.

    Misha, I said nothing! Nothing!

We should do something for my birthday!

Get Ben to take me out for a party, or something. Or maybe I could just sit at home and wish I had a life.

    WHAT UP DOGS!!!

Just thought I would come and drop a line in the new female thread since I posted in the other one sometimes. HEH.

Rubes-I understand what you are going through with all of the questioning games and what not but I can tell you that is a decision that you are gonna have to make on your own because if someone else helps make it and you end up regretting the decision it could affect your relationship with that person mainly for the fact that you are regretting what you did and don't want to blame yourself so you try to pass the blame off on someone else. Besides You cant stop playing MVC2. That game is mad fun. Come to our next tournament and I guarantee you will not be feeling like this anymore. You will have a blast playing MVC2 and probably Super Turbo and XVSF. So the point I am making is you have to really analyze your take on this and decide for yourself because it is you and your life not ours.IMO

    PEACE OUT
    Kevin

    AkA: Big Sent

And anyone else that wants to come in the female thread and start flaming know that from here on I am keeping watch on this thread and will personally fly to each and everyone of you's house and smack you up just because I can.

its not trendy clothes its just odd. if you want trendy go look at Non-No. that's basic trendy style. stuff like FRUiTS, Kera, Egg, and Cutie are for the more experimental types. FRUiTS is the colaboration on all types. Kera = gothic lolita, jrock, punk and some cutie. Egg = yamambas and Cutie is exactly that. cutie fashion. also like jpop fashion. so cute and colorful its revolting. only reason I love FRUiTS is because of the punk boys and the gothic lolita girls. I normally try and make my own clothes from looking at what they have.

Dr Ben: I have numerous ideas for where to shop if you like those weird fashions. tell me what you're looking for and I'm sure I can find it on eBay for under $15. :)

No, I said "Trendy, Trendy", You misunderstood me.

Trendy = Cool, tight, fresh, etc. in Japanese Slang

It's prononuced "Tou-rIIIn-dy" that is in a nutshell all of the styles grouped together.

i.e. Techno = Drum & Bass, Trance, Jungle, etc.

Trendy, Trendy = Egg, Pop, Punk, Stoner, etc.

You have that fetish TOO?!?!?!?!!! OMG! Youre only the second girl Ive met who has this urge to keep people. 'Cept I wanna keep them in huge glass jars. Only my friend Ahren gets my closet. And the vodka. And the poptarts....

FRUITS kicks ass! I got two gift cards for Borders and finally bought the book. I saw a new FRUITS mag on ebay I was going to buy but Im trying to be better about my spending...heh heh. Everytime I look thru the book thou I see new stuff I hadnt noticed before. Ive fallen in love with Swear shoes. BRIGHT COLORS!!! Their like the Lawrence kid-punks only amplified. I dont like the croqueted "grandma" look though. Bleh..... I never have. That style should DIE!!

Weeks - BenRa needs to get some new stuff too, and you KNOW Im always up for shopping and weird stuff. I get my paycheck next week and I still have that shitload off hot topic dicount cards so that can be at least one stop for fun shirts. I still want my "You Suck" bunny rabbit top. Taco has good taste in clothes though, you might have to take her up on her offer too.

I have so much sewing to do to fix up some of my clothes. Im so lazy about projects. I finally bought some sewing glue so I think Im going to start taking some of my stuff to work for something to do for break.

Hey guys, I need a bit of advice.

You all know I work for a shitty company. The managers treat us like three year olds and we often arent allowed to talk to our co-workers without getting written up. Everything is tightly regulated and you get punished for mistakes even if its their outdated computer systems fault.

I just got a job offer from a small company I applied to a couple of months ago. This company seems good, flexible, Id keep the job through the school year and the management has a hands on relationship with its employees, which is something I highly value. The only problem is they pay 7.00hr while Im getting paid 8.00 at my current job. Thats like a 40 bucks difference for one week and 80 bucks for two weeks....plus I can potentially make hella overtime at the one Im currently at.

Advice anyone? I dont want to take the pay cut, but I dont want to be miserable either..... The manager at the potential company offered to re-interview me and show me the ropes and even train me a little to see if I wanted the job. She said with my experience if I would take a leadership role I could probably get a raise fairly soon, but it still prob wouldnt approach what Im making now.....*SIGH* Im going to discuss this with my family since Im trying to save up for college but my nerves may be shot by the end of this summer with this current job.....
  • SystemSystem Joined: Posts: 508,676 admin
D9: I say take the paycut with the more compatible job at this other company. no matter how much money you make it's not worth the misery you're suffering right now. I was going through something similar at Musician's Friend and decided to leave and work at this small proprietorship (liquor store) and I actually like going to work at the store. the people are cool, hours are good and pay is reasonable.

you're happiness as an employee is more important babe. otherwise you'll burn out or go postal a lot quicker at your current job.

good luck sweetie with whatever you decide to do.

TC: yeah we love FRUITS!!! :D I originally made that AV for someone else but he didn't want to use it. *shrugs*
  • SystemSystem Joined: Posts: 508,676 admin
I'd say take the paycut. its what I'm going to be doing. I work for a Dept of Justice right now and its soooooo not fun working with lawyers. I practically wanna have a stroke every time I come home. so I have an interview coming up at Hot Topic. I'd rather work somewhere where I don't have to confine myself to a strict dress code and lack of communication. that and I feel like my cubby is getting smaller and smaller each day.
  • SystemSystem Joined: Posts: 508,676 admin
It all depends on what you're working for. If you really need the money, sometimes you have to suffer through with a really shitty job to get it. If you're mainly using the money as spending cash, then you have the option of going to the easier, more comfortable job.

I've been at a job for 4 years, and have worked my way up to being the manager of a small health food restaurant. Basically I'm in charge and make all the decisions, which is a LOT of stress on me. I also only make $7.40 an hour, what a ripoff. But I have the power to dictate my hours whenever I want. Thats why I can take off time to go to ECC, MWC and EVL...I tell the boss I'm going, and he gives me the time off no matter what. So I'm suffering in a really shitty job, with shitty pay, for the sake of being able to take off hours when I need to for schoolwork, trips, etc.

I don't know if any of this has helped, but my advice is that if you don't absolutely need the extra buck that they're paying you right now, then go to the easier job. I know firsthand how much it sucks to be stuck in a job that you hate, but at least I'm there because it has a fringe benefit that you can't get anywhere else. The extra buck isn't enough in my opinion to stay...

D9, darling, take the easier job. I went through the same thing and in the end I would have rather had no job than stay at the one I had. The stress and the feeling of miserableness is not worth the money, because eventually you can make the money again.

It's like being in a relationship where there's something obviously wrong and keeps going wrong: the stress of staying and trying to be patient isn't worth it when you can find it elsewhere.

Not to really change the subject, I took a few days off and thought about what I wanted to do about games. Right now I'm going through a lot of changes in my life, self-imposed changes, and I realized that some things had to change in order for me to even be able to keep going on and be healthy. Videogames have been my life for 14 years. Sometimes they make me want to go out and do something horrible but for along time it was the way I met people and set me apart from everyone else that I knew and made me unique.

I have seen the ugly side of videogames and I have seen the fun side of games. It's the fun side that keeps me wanting to play and learn new things. For right now, though, I have decided to stick with them and concentrate on the games that I have fun with, instead of staying with MvC2 which had, in the past, turned me against playing games altogether. I don't like the game and like Angie said, I need to step back. I'm going to still play it but it won't rule my life and make me become what I saw it turn my best friend into.

I want to thank everyone for trying to help me and taking the time to give advice. I really appreciate it.

I won't be on for a while because I have a family emergency at the moment. My uncle was put into the hospital the other night because he apparently had a stroke. At first they thought it was mild but it turns out it may have been more. So while I'm worrying about that and my relationship problems once again, I don't think I'm going to be on SRK for awhile. I didn't want you guys to think I've totally dropped off the face of the earth or I forgot about you. I haven't and I won't.

    Rubes
Maybe one day I'll get back in the game. Right now, though, let's just call it what it is: Retirement.

Rubes, sorry to hear about your uncle. I will keep him and your family in my prayers this week. I'm glad to hear that you are focusing your energies on other priorities in your life right now, but that you are not completely giving up games altogether. I hope everything works out for you and hope to see you back on the boards here soon. good luck to you sweetie.

Hey Ang! What DID you think of the movie? I saw Windtalkers this weekend too actually, and it was okay - not great though. Both Ben and I expected more from John Woo. I dont know that much about Navajo traditions, so I didnt really know how to rate the film. My father same some reviews by Navajo though said it really knew little to nothing of their culture. I also saw the Bourne Identity, of which only one scene was truly cool and oh course, the female love of my life Franke Potenke was in it, beautiful and wonderful as ever. She's so goregous, I wish I looked like her. I think I should name my first daughter after her, if not the first name, the last name. Po-tenk-eh. Sorry, she was the only reason I went to see that film. The rest of the casting was just a waste. Oh well.

I got the new job! I start training this Thurs. If I go to work AND this training sesson at the new job, I'll be working 13 hrs that day....so Im going to skip part of Thursday at the first job and take a nap before I go. *excited* the only bad thing is I might have to work Sundays *cries*. My new boss seems really cool tho and its seems like they actually WANT me thereI had a dirty old man following me around at this old job and this way I can get rid of him too! HOORAY!!!! Heh. Don't mind me, Ladies. I'm just a regular male SRK'er who's looking around, and trust me, I'm not trying to chase any of you. If I wanted a wild night of God-knows-what with God-knows-who, trust me, I know where to look. I'm just poking around the forums, so once again, don't mind me.

Congrats! on the new job. yeah I have to work all weekends so I know that bites.....but hey, I love gettin' paid so that's my balance with it. Now as for Wind Talkers....well, it was good. The AMC 20 had the sound up way too fuckin loud. The whole thing with Navajo traditions I can understand why they downplayed it in the movie (whether it was to not bastardize some of the ceremonies, like the protection one that was performed....or to emphasize the lack of open-mindedness within the armed forces and other religious practices is subjective to interpretation.) I saw the interview on 60 Minutes II they had with the two main characters of the story (both are still living and were re-united on the show). The movie didn't go into every aspect of the code talkers stories....especially that they were not just Navajo; Comanche, Choctaw, Cherokee and a couple of other tribes were involved in this with their languages as well. To me this movie just scratched the surface and you're right they could've done more, but Hollyweird is always slow to portraying history in an accurate format. *sighs* I really wished my grandfather had lived a few weeks longer so I could hear his opinion on this movie. He served in WWII (in the Pacific, at Iwo Jima) and knew some of the code talkers personally. But he never talked about the war, not even with his family. Perhaps in the next life

Lol yup it sucks. When you're young enough to go out with underage girls, they only want older men. Then when you're older, all the underage girls want you.....SOOOOOOOO tempting.....but....must.....resist! *Sees bars surrounding him* DO'H!

Hey TacoChan, you said something about maybe helping me find some of that clothing in the Fruits book? I might take you up on that..I'm still debating....

*nods* My grandpa was the same way. He rarely if ever spoke about the war. I think just recently he's finally been opening up a bit about it, but mainly about homeland stuff when he was training here. He got stationed in Hawaii I guess just after Pearl Harbor and helped with the cleanup....but other than that *shrugs*.

I didnt take the new job. I started training for it and realized that the job required ALOT more than the boss had mentioned....I cant go into what because of privacy laws, but it should have started at 9-11 bucks an hour instead of 7 to say the least. I also realized - I just dont want to work phones for awhile. Im sick of them. So Im going to stay miserable at the old job, sorting shit. Oh well. Ive started meeting some cool people there, one guy DJs and Im trying to hook him up with a friend of mine. It wont work, but Im bored and I have nothing else to do with my summer but work, be miserable and play matchmaker. :D Everyday at work I sing the "Im going to kill myself" song to my friends. They've started learning the words and sing along now. Maybe we can start a company choir.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEKS!!!! Course, I already told you this, but I though it was worth repeating. Sorry I didnt find you any cute girls at the club last night, but you did get offered some illegal contraband by the blonde chick and that was worth it in itself to see the look on your face when she asked you. "Hi, whats your name, want some ***?" She's a funny girl, that one. I kinda like her, she certainly bemuses me. Did you get to see more break dancing? I swear to god, the Granasty does get better. Well.....maybe. Hee hee.
