he does but its not as good as darun or chun. (c.mp, s.hk, launcher super)
generally its a few options like crouching punch to hadouken to shippu
I don't believe that c.lp, to c.hp, to shippu will work (inital hitbox when starting shippu is too small unlike darun and chuns launchers, also chance that you get a roll instead of shippu).

Which is why normally most people just cancel the first one then do something like c.mp, j.mk, hurricane kick (though ends up doing less damage than letting shippu go uncanceled but get back some meter and possible positioning).
Or if you have meter to burn you'd cancel it then follow up with a deep shoryuken to shinryuken.

If you really want you could do a simple loop of s.mp or c.mp into shippu. But I wouldn't think that it'd be worth it.

Well, I was playing SFEX3 tonight with a mate who had never played if before (he had EX1 and all of the Alpha games, and I presume SF2, but nothing newer). He said his favorite game was EX1, but after playing EX3 for a while said he prefered that. Anyway, to get to my point - we were configuring the buttons, and I learnt something that I never knew before. At least, if I did know it before, I'd long since forgotten. So - you can configure L3 and R3 to do stuff. In other words, the PS2 pad has 4 unused action buttons, instead of just 2. It's of no use if you're not using a Dual Shock, and L3 is a bit pointless, but R3 might come in handy for a few people. I'm not sure what you would use it for, maybe throw or tag or something (when I use a DS I usually have PPP and KKK on the other shoulder buttons).

Anyway, we also tried a bit of 3rd Strike, but he didn't get into that, so we ended up playing a few other games and then going back to EX3. I leant him my copy of SSFIV, so we'll see how he gets on with that, but it sounds like he's an EX3 convert. (reason we didn't play IV or HDR was that my PS3 is in for repair, so we were playing everything on a PS2).

Anyway, this was a long rambling reply, but I thought I would mention the analog thing for those that didn't know.

Hi everyone, it's nice to see a Street Fighter EX series appreciation thread here at Shoryuken.com. I myself am a huge fan of the series, and played them a lot during my high school days, particularly SFEX Plus Alpha. Since we have a huge SFEX fan community here, I thought I should share a cheat I discovered in SFEX Plus Alpha which I haven't seen posted in any website that lists cheats for the game.

I'm sure most of you would be aware about the cheat to face Shin Akuma at the end of Arcade mode in stage 10. Well, I can offer you something better than that:)
This is how the cheat goes:

Let's say you are facing Shin Akuma in stage 10 as player 1. Now, player 2 has to press start and come as a new challenger. Player 2 has to select the same character as player 1. This is the sequence of events that will unlock the cheat:

    a) Player 2 defeats player 1.
    b) Player 1 continues as a new challenger within the time limit (20 counts).
    c) Player 1 selects the same character again (same as player 2) and defeats player 2.

Player 2 should not continue at this point, and after that, player 1 will face Shin Akuma in stage 1. After you defeat Shin Akuma in stage 1, you will face him again in stage 2. After you defeat him in stage 2, you will face him yet again in stage 3. This will keep on going until stage 10 (the final stage). Should you lose at any point during your battles with Shin Akuma:P, you are free to continue as a different character and face him again in whichever stage you lost to him in. I call this the "Versus Shin Akuma Arcade mode". Enjoy! :)

Took a quite look at the hitboxes at the game most of the collision is tied with the animation skeleton. The only one that isn't tied is the push box.

Guile is still pretty much himself in EX 2.

Ryu and Guile are still pretty much their classic selves in the EX1 and EX2 games (I haven't played EX3 so I wouldn't know there).

I'm happy to see there are people who appreciate the EX series. most people are not familiar with ex series. I owned all EX games and played EX2+ and EX3 competitively, long time ago. Ex2+ and EX3 where the best and I liked EX3 better. The only complain I had was the absence of Akuma/Shin Akuma in EX2+/EX3. Kairi is technically supperior but It was a dream to have Kairi vs Akuma in (ex29+/ex3)
Many people in here may not be aware that concept of EX moves in later SF games such third strike and SF4's originate from SF EX series. SFxt is even more EX like in concept (2vs2, assist ....).
The concept Focus attack in SF4 is also a variation of the Knockdown in SF EX2+ If I recall
A Remake of EX3  plus  the addition of FADC from SF4 will make an ultimate fighting game much more superior than SSF4 AE.
I wish a newer version of the game will come out and possibly on PC.
I miss Kairi, Skullo, Shadow and Garuda.

I haven't spent too much time with SF EX 2 (I prefer EX+), but I'd wager that ePSXe would do the game justice. Alternately, you could use the Playstation emulator for the PSP, which handles just about anything that doesn't require a Dual Shock controller beautifully.

Kinda wanna buy ex+ @ just to mess with it. My favorite of the series overall. Allen fucking snider. Nigga had Kara throws and a mean close range game. He was more like ken then ken actually was. Lol.

ive downloaded the small sfex2 jpn , hispanic , asia , and 16meg usa rom . everytime i try to start it in mame the usa version . it keeps saying the game is missing required roms or chd images . did sfex2 run on chd for mame , i remember back in the day killer instinct 1 and 2 on mame needed chd image. Or is there seperate rom files im missing
  • ShinjiGohanShinjiGohan Joined: Posts: 4,383 ✭✭✭
no, SFEX games are all roms. You might be missing the ZN1 and ZN2 bios (ZN1 for SFEX and SFEX+, ZN2 for SFEX2 and SFEX2+).

thank you so much shinJi Gohan . i have it working now , at first i tried it on an old version of mame and it still was slow .. i was thinking wtf ??? but downloaded a newer version of mame and its runs great . sound still isnt 100% perfect but to play the original sfex2 again at full speed is so nice . Back in 1998 when sfex2 hit the best arcade in london at the time ( namcowonderpark ) , this game was the most played capcom game in there . Challengers from 11am until 12 midnight nonstop . EX2 was very very popular until EX2+ came out , then sadly namcowonderpark closed down and when we all relocated to a smaller arcade in london ( casino ) which had ex2+ it still got played alot but no way near as much players as the original ex2 . all my best memories are from ex2 .. thx again

Im in need of help , i prefer playing ex2 on zinc best because the music audio is too low on mame . I have 2 versions of mame , ( 1 ) where it runs all versions of ex2 asia japan hispanic but all very slow and the other version the speed is fine but the sound issues . Here's my problem the version of mame which runs ex2 slow but lets you select all of the rom versions of the game , the cheat works in the test menu for garuda and nanase .

The version of mame that runs the game on good speed only lets me choose usa and jp version , same with zinc and the cheat never ever works to unlock G and N . The thing is in the mame emu that runs the game slow and lets me choose all versions i still enter the code on usa and jp version and it works

Has anyone here gotten the code to work on zinc for ex2 plz let me know . its alittle annoying zinc runs it best for me and now i cant even have my favourite character there

Mame runs fine for me. Audio is a little out of sync from the compression.

There was a "trainer" for zinc that allowed you to do cheats, like unlock all characters.

BAMP. Any hit confirms in these games?

Edit: let me clarify: is it like more modern games where you can chain/link from a light attack into full combo or is it more old school?

yup, you can easily hit confirm from light attacks in the EX series.

guys! help googled but no help.
I cant get to menu selection screen in street fighter ex 2 plus. When i insert coin it directly gets me to character selection screen. The main menu screen where we can select versus mode, practice etc etc. I had played this game when i was kid but now i wanna enjoy it too. i have searched google there is main menu screen but i cant access it in my game :(
    Any help?

The SFEX games don't have magic combos or easy chaining like in marvel. Generally its 2-3 frame links from a heavier attack to a lighter attack. However you can cancel into a fast special or super move if you were to land a light attack. I've been known to occasionally just walk back and forth and whiff crouching short, if it hits then to immediately perform a super. EX3 would give you a bit more room to explore because you could tag cancel the light attack and follow it up with almost anything.

That main menu is on the PSX port, it sounds like you're playing the arcade version.

You can do multi light attack hit confirms, or you can do single attack hit confirms. Pretty much all characters super cancel really late off of their normals. for example ken s.rh, late cancel into super, sagat s.forward, late cancel into super, etc.
Whiff your entire SOUL into c.MK in 3S.

Mame emulates the arcade version not the playsation version so the unlock method is different usually by time lock.

Can you explain me in plain english or go with details.
I dont need main menu screen. I just thought by getting main menu screen i could unlock characters.
I just need to unlock kairi and garuda.
Plz explain me how to unlock characters in details/ or unlock game

They are unlocked IN TIME, by playing the game. The most time you spend playing the game, the faster they gonna be unlocked.

You have 2 options, either a) let the game run nonstop for a month like I did for my arcade board that I purchased or b) download some cheats and unlock them that way. But I don't remember if that'll save, so you might need to redo the code every time you play (or set up a save state and load up the state every time).

I can't remember exactly how long it took, but it should have been like 400 hours, maybe 600.

Well first it should be sfex2p as that's what the rom is named. Doing a search on that came up with this xml code
:sfex2p:00100001:1FAF0030:0000FFFF:FFFFFFFF:Unlock Secret Characters:You need to reset the game to see any effect after set this cheat
    :sfex2p:00110001:1FAF0034:0000FFFF:FFFFFFFF:Unlock Secret Characters (2/2)

which someone then translated to this
<cheat desc="Unlock Secret Characters"> <comment>You need to reset the game to see any effect after you've enabled this cheat</comment>
    	<script state="on">
    	  <action>maincpu.pd@1FAF0030=0000FFFF|(maincpu.pd@1FAF0030 BAND ~0000FFFF)</action>
    	  <action>maincpu.pd@1FAF0034=0000FFFF|(maincpu.pd@1FAF0034 BAND ~0000FFFF)</action>
    	</script>
      </cheat>

cheat on google for mame cheats, the top link should be pugsy's cheats database on retroroms, download that and open it up. There should be a zip or 7z file called cheat, unzip that and look in the folder for a sfex2p.xml, edit that file by pasting this code in. Rezip the file back to cheat.7z or cheat.zip, put that in your main mame directory (where the mame.exe is in). Start up mame, edit the options for mame to allow for cheats and start up the game. Press <tab> which should open up a menu, go down the the "cheats" section and turn on the code. reset the game via f3, and you should be good to go.

unless the code itself is faulty, that should work.
