Been digging the ease of use for machine gun upper now. Actually make it part of my move lexicon where before it seemed useless since the timing for it was so wonky.

Anyone finding any new or exciting combos? I'm waiting to get done making pies to get back to dat trainin' mode.

Nothing new discovered so far, but I did have funny Dee Jay vs Sagat game, mahsed the MGU nulified his low tiger, and his high tiger and threw a fireball back which took out the third fireball.

Damn! I forgot Sirlin gave it a green hand sort of property. That's going to be amazing for sagat and shotos. Does a specific punch have the fireball absorbing property or do all of them do it?

Also, I hate Honda. :( It seems like everyone else is complaining about him too. Any tips for dealing with the fat man? I usually just freak out and spam jumping jab in the hopes of beating his butt splashes and headbutts.

I know its probably nothing changed at all, but I have an easier time linking c.jab to s.strong.

    Honda is easy IMO.

Jumping jab beats headbutt and buttsmash (standing jab also beats headbutt). Spam him with fireballs at full range, when he jumps in hit him with a slide or sweep back off fireball spam him somemore.

Short (lightkick) upkick beats butt smash!!

If the opponent starts learning not to use strongest buttsmash then thats fine, sometimes you will be able to walk up and nail him with a standing roundhouse as soon as he lands.

So basically turtle as much as possible, try stay full distance to 3/4 distance to be most effective, he gets you in the corner, short up kick your way out. Try and force him into the corner by closing distance with slide and upkicks.

Honda has weakened hundred hand slap but I've yet to figure out how to use that to my benifit.

These tactics also works against Blanka, but you have to counter jump-ins sweep not slide, use upkicks and short hook kicks to avoid his sweeps and slides. Almost all of Ehondas and Blankas horizontal specials can be cleanly countered with just jabbing.

I've noticed that as well. Not sure if it's just the timing being a little more forgiving than on GGPO, but I'm having an easier time with it for sure.

I'm also really liking the fact that Sobat's second hit tends to connect more.

Thanks! The short up kick thing will help. I always get pushed into the corner eventually and then its hundred slaps chip and butt splash until death.

Alright, dealing with Honda's easier now, but what about Sagat? I can't fireball fight him, and jumping in equals free tiger uppercuts or RH tiger knee juggles.

I had a little luck with early jumping jab to stop some of his stuff, but it was really unreliable. Most of the time I just got punished.

The only other tactic I had was trying to keep him at middle range and force him to play footsies and poke at him with MK and HK to try and stuff tiger shots, but it's hard to keep him at that distance for long.

Keep in mind I'm no expert, but against Sagat I was having some luck hopping his low fireballs with the short sobat, popping them with the machine-gun-upper. Activating the MGU with up-back and then keeping that back charge for a Max-Out or Sobat seemed to be, at the very least, throwing off the players I was playing against. Do keep in mind though that this is playing against some fairly inexperienced competition (I was able to pull off 22-wins straight with DeeJay, and I'm not especially good, so that should give you some idea of the level most of the competition is playing at).

so, I just got murdered by Chun li twice in a row. I felt utterly helpless against her jump ins. She would usually time them after my fireballs so I wouldn't have enough charge to up kick her. Is there some normal I should use as anti-air or something I can use to fight her in the air?

s.MP or s.FP, depending on the distance...start s.FP earlier. it resets the match.

I was getting my butt handed to me by Sim. He would get me in a corner and do fireballs. Whats more, he would punch under my fireballs. If I tried jumping he'd just kick me out of the air. Sometimes I can get him in a corner, but he just swats me out of the air, although sometimes I can trade hits with j. RH. How do you win this matchup with DJ?

all dread kicks have lower-body invincibility on start-up now; try those against his pokes, especially the short version.

Don't be as predictable with fireballs, toss out a S.RH instead and catch her off guard, thats about it really. If anybody anticipates your fireball, then its going to be easy for them to get in, chun or not.

...if you're talking about AA, standing roundhouse isn't his best option for AA normals...it's s.strong or s.fierce.

if she jumps over a Max Out, s.strong or s.fierce, like i said in the post above yours.

granted, she's annoying, but Dee Jay's really incredibly better with the easier MGU input, dishing out great damage with little execution after a crossup forward kick.

I started using dj since remix came out ZOMG he's soo much fun to use and I love how almost all of his normals have practical use in most matches. Cr rh, and cr mp are his bnb while st hp is a damn good AA if for some reason I'm standing, crossup mk is obviously pure sex, and cr lp is great for combos.

Landing crossup combos is sooo satisfying and just in general deejay is really solid all around I'm going to stick with him as one of my secondaries so what are his good and bad matchups? I'm having a hard time against claw and and even harder time against honda.

Honda I always seem to be able to zone the hell out of now. If he manages to get in I spam alot of jumping jabs to stuff butt splashes and headbutts. Only scary thing he's got left is slaps chip damage.

Claw however, I'm lost. Sometimes I can beat his aerial nonsense with jumping jabs and standing strong but most the time I get crossed over or izuna dropped. I only manage to pull off victories against decent claws if I can trick him into a corner and trap him there with fireballs and crouching fk and rh.

zoolander, try whoring the s.MP more for AA; i think you'll grow spoiled to its priority. :)

    bad matchups?

    - sim
    - buffed HD blanka (IMO)
    - sagat is a chore
    - rog can be also.
    - vega
    - ryu (IMO)

    erm...sliders, lol.

    Here:

    Sirlin vs. afrolegends:

every time Sirlin went for a Wall Dive to bait, afrolegends would try a short upkick...so it's basically Rock-Paper-Scissors:

Wall Dive (close + real) < short upkicks
Wall Dive (far + fake) = short upkicks
Wall Dive (fake) bait >/= short upkicks

at one time, afro got cornered with Dee Jay, then Sirlin went to Wall Dive him, then afro countered with s.strong. it beat Sirlin's attempt cleanly.

when Sirlin tried doing ground pokes that weren't the slide, afro would nail him with a ducking forward kick to trip, but wouldn't jump after him (wise decision, due to threat of flip kicks).

if Sirlin *did* do the slide, it'd go something like:

far Vega slide (just the tip of the boot) >= anything not d.MK (in favor of slide)
Vega slide < anticipated far d.Mk

Basically you charge back for two or so seconds like you would for any of his "horizontal" specials, and then quickly move the stick (or press, if you're using a pad) forward, back, forward, and then kick.

I've been practicing DeeJay the past couple days and I've been getting a little frustrated. For awhile, I was doing his various jump in and crossover combos fairly consistently, including the Touch Of Death combos listed in the wiki, but after taking a break, I couldn't get back to that level of consistency. Now I can't even seem to reliably follow a jump in mk with cr.fp or cr.jab. Are there any tips or tricks to getting those crouching moves to combo after the jump in consistently?

Sagat, slide under or just duck any high tiger shots. Short Hook kick or short upkick over any low tiger shots. If you predict a low tiger, you can jump in and wack him on recovery with a jumping roundhouse. Any tiger knees can be met with a 3 hit up kick. Watch out for people that whiff tiger knee then throw you. This match up is scary! :shake:

If you get close I tend to start throwing a couple of fireballs to make the opponent think about changing their gameplan and try to tiger knee.

For Chun Li, short up kick beats all her jump-ins cleanly, when you are good enough start using normals like King said as you will be able to make her land on a fireball on her way down (same with any other character). Jumping short is also good for beating her in the air if you do it early.

Vega short up kicks, or standing strong will beat walldives, I tend to go for up kick because you move forward and it seems safer should he try to hit you from behind (but I havent come across anyone using the fake walldive yet). Jumping jab, j.short, or j.strong are also good ways to knock him out of the air, try throwing a fireball or hook kick when you land. Generally I tend not attack vega, or jump in. Stay on the ground, if you have to jump then jump straight up, unless you get a chance to cross up!!!

Vega is the only character that I would say its actually not that much of a bad thing to be cornered by him.

One thing thats really annoyed me now though is how is easy it is to cancel standing round house into upkick, everytime ken tries to super me misses and comes down I have the habbit of upkicking like in ST, but now Dee Jay hits him with the roundhouse which means the upkicks do not connect, which inturn means he gets a free flaming dragon punch on me.

Yes he was, c.fierce version the timing is tight its still very difficult to do in HDremix to get the c.fierce into MGU I've only pulled it off in training mode. Jabs let you charge up more and you get immediate confirmation that the hits are landing or if the opponent is blocking.

I'm having a really terrible time going into charge specials after jump in crossup mk into jabs. In training mode I can cancel crouching jab or fierce into upkicks or mgu, but when I add the cross up mk it feels like the timing changes and charge attacks won't come out like it feels they should. Is there some method to timing these inputs?

Also, anyone wanna explain to me how afrolegends does that insane cr. lp, s. mp xx upkicks combo? Does he let the stick go to neutral during the mp and then finish the upkicks command?

Yeh looks sick doesn't it! I think you are right thats the method to do it. I've only managed to do it with Guile in classic, and completely non intentionally with DeeJay in HDR. There must be a some reasoning to use standing strong instead of crounching fierce, maybe its to do with push back???

you can jab his kicks, use crouching strong to hit his low attacks. Just avoid getting too close cos he still has nasty throw range.

Dee Jay vs Dee Jay, always ends up with 5 or so fireballs being slung back and forth, its easy to fall into a pattern, good time to jump in to close distance and turtle fireball again. You will need to learn to use his sweep since this beats his slide clean.

What are his best options on wakeup, and his best options in the corner? I find myself doing well until I get stuck in the corner.

Also - is there a reason why crossup MK, cr. jabs into jab MGU doesn't always knock down? It sucks landing a 6-hit combo and then getting swept.

    short upkicks on wakeup.

MGU snuffs fireballs now; charge db, ub + P to activate while keeping your charge.

use cu.MK, c.LP, c.FP xx MGU (DAMAGE!) ...that FP is the damage! it's like 70%! who cares about knockdown when you could pretty much end the round with just this cross-up combo?!

or just cu.MK c.LP *2, s.MP xx FK Dread Kicks to guarantee a knockdown :)

Have not heard anyone mention the Akuma matchup and I watched a few vids where people were having trouble there. Have not seen anyone in these vids try MGU against air firball attempts. Anyone have any input on that idea

MGU airfirball will stop him jumping in at the same time. I havent managed to MGU a red fireball yet I get taken out everytime, KING have you had any luck with that???

Thats what I was hoping for, MGU to ignore airfireball and knock him out of the air.

As for the red Fireball. Other say he can eat two fireballs off the same MGU (earlier in this thread) yet he does not seem to be able to stop more than one hit of a multi-hit fireball for some reason. I saw him eat a Shinkuu Hadouken the same way. Seems kinda strange. I think each Fist has its own anti-fireball properties but the extra hits just hit his fist after the first is snuffed. Or they already have passed his fist by the time the next MGU hit comes out. One of the two.

Anyways, point I was getting at. If Dee Jay can stop Akuma jump in fireball tricks with MGU and if Akuma becomes high tier as people are expecting, then Dee Jay should have a place near the top as well as a meta-game choice. MGU plus a combo which basically kills Akuma in one hit is solid.
I dare not say i am your superior
for that would admit to your substance
it would give you a place and a value

Yeah, so I'm dying to the down jab jab SPD stuff zangief and t. hawk seem to be all about now.

How the hell do you get out of it? I always figured just jabbing would poke him out, but it's like a combo now or something. :O They always seem to get it.

Have you managed to destroy Akuma's red fireball with the MGU, I can destroy Ryu's but with Akuma's I fail everytime.

    SPD > jab

it's a bad guessing game, but try reversal short upkicks to get out. the thing is, there's several options he can do; i'll list a couple (not all of them):

    c.jab xx SPD
    c.jab *2 xx SPD
    c.jab, s.short xx SPD
c.jab, s.short xx Siberian Suplex (to stay in range of the corner)

i haven't fully explored Gief's new hop, but Vodka Stuart's Gief' Tricks vid with the new hop shows a lot of possibilities...

basically, he's going to make you guess in his favor.

if you're letting him in, then Gief' deserves to SPD you!
