guide for users having trouble with The PS3 TE/SE and there PC's

tips
also if you run into problems try disconnecting other usb devices and try plug the stick in to the actual usb port.

if using a hub try plugging it in directly onto your computer

Note:
please play around with your usb connections do not plug the TE into any sort of hub.

having discovered not all chipsets support the ps3 TE/Se this is what you can do if your PS3 TE/SE does not work.

the PS3 TE is only compatible with UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface), which is an Intel originated proprietary standard and far from universal. Any knowledgeable and experienced engineer developing a USB device knows and fully understands the differences between the various USB standards:

UHCI - USB 1.1 Proprietary Intel Standard
OHCI - USB 1.1 Open Standard
EHCI - USB 2.0 Open Standard

inorder to use you have to have a UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface), i can personally recommend via chipsets as this was my solution and all that has bought pci cards with the via chipset have reported that it works.

ok guys,

i bought 2 pci cards because my nvidia chipset on my motherboard , was not registering button presses, or joystick movement, however it sees the stick.

pci card 1, belkin 4 5 port pci, nec chip on the board (presumming its a nec chipset), same as before sees the stick does not register.

Pci card 2, cheap brand (maxvalue), via chip on the board (presumming its a via chipset), sees the stick and yes the buttons work ok.

so i have got it working at last and yes the problem lays within what chipset you are trying to plug the stick into, nvidia is not working from what users have posted before, i can say that the belkin nec chip PCI usb card is also not working, and possibly ati chipsets also.

this is the pci card that is working for me
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-Port-Card-Only/dp/B000TV7GFC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
and it is cheap

unlucky for me i boght a more exspensive brand and it didnt work
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-USB-Hi-Speed-5-Port-Card/dp/B000K7UN82/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

please also note, that the stick while working does not like a USB hub i have and needs to be plugged into the socket directly,as it dont register inputs through the hub i have.

Good luck guys
updated to cut alot of the confusion here is the solution

also works with SFIV for pc, no need to configure keys everything is mapped just fine.

tip for all look at the via chipset, make sure this chip is on what ever usb device you purchase

I hope that it does work. Every time that I recommended the 360 stick for PC people would correct me saying that that the PS3 stick would definitely work as well. If it doesn't then I'm sure someone will put together some drivers up for it.

Are there any wired PS3 Mad Catz pads? I'd try using the drivers from those if such a thing exists.

anyways it doesnt say anywhere on the box that it is pc compatible. i just assumed it would be. silly me haha.

Wasn't there a PC driver to make PS3 controllers work on windows? If so then you probably need it.

A selling point for the TE stick was that it also worked on PC. If my HRAP3 works on PC than why can't the TE stick?

Well not everyone got this stick yet. I don't think it's too big a deal, I'm sure drivers will pop up online pretty fast if this is a major issue (by that I mean NO one's stciks work with pc). I know similar issues happened with the Hori FS3, but some people had their's (like me) work as soon as you plugged it in.

hmm i get the same info. but nothing registers in the light up red section. sucks for me. and i actually bought my version of windows. im runnin legit homie.

i just hope my stick works on pc just like gsrarc's stick. i modified my xp disc using nlite but i only removed completely useless features such as pinball, solitaire and windows messenger. im sure it wont make the stick less likely to work.

try uninstalling all the homebrew and other device drivers you have installed restart the pc, then plug it in and check it out.

trying another computer has been the best idea so far. 100% fresh install of xp home on a somewhat new dell laptop. still doesnt pick up the buttons or stick. argggh.

My TE stick works on my PC at home. I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition that came with my PC in 2007.

I first tried it on my friends PC and it didn't work. My guess is that the stick requires newer Windows game pad drivers that older versions of XP don't have.

Also I had to set the stick to LS.

LOL. Why yes they do. I know you where being silly but ya.

Only problem I had was there was a loose nut rolling around in the case. A friend of mine also ordered two sticks and there was things rattling around on the inside of both of his sticks.

I wonder if anyone here having problems on WinXP sp3 have done all their updates with Windows Update and with their relevant hardware...

I've found in the past some USB peripherals I've used, I've had to update weird things on Windows and sometimes even DirectX (new end-user updates all the time with my computer not getting them through Windows Update although its set to manual).

Just an idea anyhow. Hope everyone enjoys their TEs and gets them working on their computers :wgrin: The world needs more Street Fighter players

I have the exact same problem. Fully updated SP3 XP, picks up the stick and doesn't register any inputs.

    EDIT: It's Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit.

My roommate's computer which has a fresh install of XP actually picks the whole thing up and it works fine there.

Really irritating, wish I knew what was up.

    standard edition

I have the standard edition one and is not working in vista 64bit and 32bit
  • SystemSystem Joined: Posts: 508,676 admin
I have an update. I just tested my TE for PS3 on a friend's XP SP3 32 Bit, and everything worked as supposed to.

As far as I can tell there is no rhyme or reason to why some OS won't support it, and some do.

I plugged it into my computer that is running Windows 7 Beta... downloaded from Microsofts site, and updated to the latest version.

Windows not only recognized the stick... but even the make and name. It registered as Mad Catz TE Fight Stick . I had problems getting GGPO to work.. but that had nothing to do with the fight stick, and the buttons worked in the test/diagnostic window so I'm pretty confident it's A-Okay on windows 7.

Hurray. No one has had problems with Vista 64 bit yet.

I thought I was going to get screwed for using Vista, lol.

Reporting in with windows xp pro sp3, and my SE fightstick is reporting as PC USB wired stick 8818, but is not recognizing any button inputs. Also, works absolutely fine on the ps3.

I mentioned this in the main thread, but I called MadCatz tech support and the guy there had no idea what the problem was. When I told him that it worked on some other computers and the PS3 he assumed it was a problem with my comp and told me to check the motherboard drivers. I gave it a shot, no dice.

I'm thinking about upping to Vista or Windows 7 to see if it really is just the OS. :bluu:
