You're forgetting the effects of meaty hits. If my Bison's c.lk hits on the first active frame, recovery starts one frame early. Also, frames are doubled, hence 55f charge, so your 257bpm is really 128.5.That helps to explain my finding of 154 or so bpm for my bison whose clk has similar properties (1 frame faster to start... but 1 frame slower to recover. 1800/13 (meaty) comes out to 138.4 bpm plus of course brain latency.1800/154 comes out to 11.7 which means I take about 1.2 frames between click and kick or about 40 ms, which hardly seems that bad.

Edit: tried to quote but Palm Blazer is a piece of shit.

    boxer jab links

    4 (startup) + 2 (active) + 7 (recovery) = 13 frames
    Substract 1 from startup frames.

    3 startup, hits on frame 4, active for 2, 7 recovery = 12 frames

Frames are not doubled, hitting on the first active frame has nothing to do with meaties, and recovery never starts early.

Thanks for clearing that stuff up guys, wanted to give a hint at how it would be done but don't want to misinform anyone!

Did you get the frames doubled thing from the ancient sf podcast too? Haha. :(

I got questions about frame and linking. Say c.jab give you +5 on hit and c.hk are 5 frame start up. This does mean it's 0 frame link or 1 frame? And how is it possible to link when there's 0 frame in between?

I assume you're talking about Ryu. The frame data on the SRK wiki shows which frame the move hits on, rather than just startup. So his sweep hits on the fifth frame (actual startup is 4 frames), it's actually a 1 frame link. There are no 0 frame links.

I'm not sure if it matter, I got the frame data from eventhubs.

For Ryu, c.lp is +5 on hit and his c.hp is +4 on start up. Which is actually 2 frame link?

Yes, it's a 2-frame link. Get your frame data from SRK wiki, as eventhubs seems to be out of date.

    Really nice thread.

So after Years of playing with pad I finally got my arcade stick. And with that (Ryu player) my SRK-FADC into Ultra sucks like hell. always pressing the buttons while having the stick df. and as a result a SRK instead of a ultra is done.

Thats kind a funny cuz while playing with pad I always pressed the wrong button, with stick the motion is the problem (d. df. f.) And especially execute this while playing against decent players -.-
It is hard to get this out of a brain wich is really used to a pad and therefore used to smash some buttons

In Training Mode where Ive got all the time in the world, its not that hard....

Try this: Instead of qcfx2, do qcf, down, down forward, forward, up-forward PPP.

If your problem is hitting PPP too early, ending at up forward instead of just forward can help.

Hey guys is there a thread for transitioning from pad to stick? I bought a Mad Catz stick (not TE) and so far it fucking blows. I can't do anything right and the stick feels like shit and noisy as hell.

Takes a few days, just keep at it. The day I bought mine was the day I switched from US to JAP style sticks, and it screwed me over until I got stuff down. Now I can't go back again

Yeah that problem is known to me. I noticed it several times. It happens to me while doing a combo and when I want finish with a SRK>FADC into Ultra my hand lets go while doing the Ultra motion^^
I think i have a SRK>FADC into Ultra dyslexia nevertheless I medicate it with marijuanna xD and it seem to work xD

Does using an EX move gain meter like a normal would? Like, let's say shooting a fireball gets you 10 meter and using an EX costs 100 meter. Do you then have 10 meter after you EX assuming you had exactly 100 to start?

no, ex, super, ultra, taunts, normals that do not make contact does not give you a meter gain

can someone breakdown how stun works in this game?

every character has a value that they become stunned at, like 1000.
every move causes a certain amount of stun, like 50 for a jab or 150 for a fierce.
as long as you keep the opponent in a threatened state (taking damage or blocking) their current stun accumulates.
once they have been out of a threatened state for like 5 seconds (i guess) their current stun depletes rapidly until it returns to zero.
  • rainscaperainscape Joined: Posts: 547
    @xx_Deus_Xx: In a nutshell:

-Each attack does a hidden amount of stun. There's no visual way of telling how much stun a move does, but you can look it up in the game's frame data.

-If you take more than a certain amount of stun (the amount needed varies from character to character), you get stunned.

-You can reset your (hidden) stun meter by waiting a few seconds without blocking an attack or getting hit by one.

EDIT: oh, Raun beat me to it, and explained it better to boot.

I have a quick question regarding option select. Do I simply mash both "lk+lp" (throw) while i am blocking? or do i have to slow down the input?

    Thanks.

    you dont need to mash.
do it right after you expect block while their character is within range to throw.
so if they do a jump in followed by three fast pokes, you would tech three times.
mashing wont cause any trouble though, other than tired fingers.

Actually, it's better not to mash. Doing so can get you thrown out of the c. lk's start up, or frame trapped.

yes, but that is true of timing it correctly as well.
i am guessing it is probably better not to mash, but i cant think of a reason why.
if someone notices you teching a lot, they can just plan to hit the tech move whether you are mashing or not.

The idea behind it is that you can tech a few frames after the throws startup. So you want to time your OS where you'll still block a follow up blockstring. A situation that comes up a lot is ken's hurricane kick. At the end, he's going to mix you up. Either throw, dp, or a block string. At the end, just pause and then crouch tech. If he dps or does the block string, you'll block it, but if he throws, you'll tech. you want to try and time this for every hit, but don't mash. If you're playing offline, people will hear it and bait it out to punish.

The thing is, mashing out the OS tech puts you at a higher risk of getting thrown.

Mashing carries a bigger risk of accidentally sticking out a c. lk during the start-up frames of your opponent's tick throw. If that happens his throw will catch you during the start-up of your c. lk, so the throw becomes untechable.

The proper way of doing it is to press lp+lk as late as possible when you expect him to do a tick throw. This minimizes the chance that you get caught in a frame trap or thrown out of the lk start up.

I feel very slow doing some movements, such as dash cancels.
My impression is that my hands are too small, or the stick has too much throw (Sanwa square gate stick, I will dig up the model if needed).
I base that feeling on the fact that I sometimes miss charge moves, especially up-down ones.

Is such a thing possible? Am I just a scrub?
Would changing/modding the gate on the stick help somehow?

Question, are normals slower to get off in a block pose (down back) than in normal crouch (down)? I was wondering that because there is the block animation. Can anyone confirm this? I find I'm pressing down back a lot out of habit. I find a lot of slower framed jabs are getting off faster than me.

No because the game is running at 60fps. If the game was running at a higher FPS like 80 and your TV was 60Hz than it would be running at 60FPS. If you had a 120Hz TV than you would take advantage. Until things run at 120FPS than you are good. You might notice your TV shift to 24 when watching movies like Blu Ray because they run at 24fps. The same thing goes with Computers. Even though commands that show the FPS state something like 100FPS the true output is what your Monitors refresh rate is. So if it's 50Hz than it's really running at 50 FPS.

    Hope this helps.

you just need to practice more.
i do not think your hands are too small to play.
my 6 year old did the qcf x2 ppp ultra with seth last night on an xbox controller and his hands are smaller than yours!
if you can execute the moves at all, you can execute them consistently with practice.
    there is no substitute.

they are not slower in crouch block but crouch block suffers more blockstun than standing block.
for example, if i block blanka's ball standing, i can hit him with a reversal lp. palm.
if i block blanka's ball crouching, the palm will never hit him.
your moves are not slower from crouch block, you are forced to do them later.
