We had this same topic go down in the check out my stick thread in late 2008, right around when people were doing a lot of "shoebox" sticks and buying cheap HRAP2s off eBay. We ended up keeping it all in one thread.
I remember that (not that I was an SRK'er then, but before I registered here I did indeed read through the old thread in it's entirety). And what's funny is now that I'm so tired of all the store bought stuff, I'd much rather see cardboard sticks!
It is a thread for people who love sticks and seeing what people do with them.
[emphasis added] Some people have taken it a step further and post pics of totally stock sticks they just purchased, and in all fairness, they are not violating the title of the thread.

Maybe we could have a poll to see if folks would actually like to have a separate thread for fully scratch built sticks?

The title of the thread was changed specifically to accommodate those posts. Btw, check this out:

    That is hot!

The problem is, how do you differentiate between a store bought one, and a "custom" that someone simply bought off a builder? For example, when I was looking for a stick recently, I had the option of simply buying a HRAP3 and then modding it, or buying a custom from someone over here for far less money and work than modding the HRAP 3. Now while I ended up buying and modding the HRAP 3, what if I had simple bought the "custom" from the other guy? Isn't that technically at the same level as someone who simply got a store bought and swapped some parts?

I think Toodles said it best in that old thread:

"Fuck that. We always need more stick love. I don't care if you got an HRAP and just switched the buttons; especially the first time around, you are proud as hell of your stick. Let 'em show it off. Let 'em show off the ghetto sticks, let 'em show off the shoebox sticks and the barely modded from stock sticks. We all gotta start somewhere and we don't need to be dicks by setting up noobs at a kiddy table." - Toodles

Again, I understand the thought that a button swap isn't much of a mod, but it is a mod. Once you start saying 'that's not good enough' you're going to put off people that want to contribute and may go on to do something a bit more involved with their next project. We all can tell the difference between a swap and a full on custom; let's just be happy more people are doing mods and are happy to share

Amen to that. If ppl want to post about their sticks if its new or old or just bought or mod or any type of stick let them. After all USA or CANADA is a free country that ppl can have freedom of anything. Like what they say Freedom of Speech. So let ppl post about their sticks or ghetto who fucking cares. If Haters dont like it too bad STFU.

I'm not in the hater camp. As I said, i don't scoff at the effort these guys put in, or that they should show off their work, hence suggesting a separate thread. I just don't appreciate the sheer volume of cookie cutter TE's washing out the customs. I'd be horrified if they disappeared altogether though.

Hail Toodles! Truer words haven't been spoken about sticks. Seriously, ya gotta start somewhere right? And it's not like stock sticks suck. There have been some really fantastic stock sticks I've seen in the arcade stick thread that were stock with a few changed buttons, but looked FANTASTIC due to the color coordination.

Ah, nice one. I hope you're gonna upload more pics. You've got a boatload of fantastic work, but only 3 pictures on there.

..and yeah, there's a lot of modded sticks on the customs thread these days, but I think anybody worth their salt knows that there's far more work and planning goes into a scratch built stick than a mod job.

Thanks Br0ken and yeah I am slowly getting all the images together for the gallery section, just put a few more up now. The website tonight service is pretty cool too, specially if you aren't too savvy on code :s

There's a lot of slack on the wires inside the TE. Hmm...after a few well-placed holes with a drill or Dremel, I think I could make myself a pretty nice wire-tucked TE.

    Tutorial idea! =D

Just go to your local Best Buy home theater department; those guys are like wizards at home theater tech.

Last time I was there, a rep tried to sell me a $100 HDMI cable. It was braided and fine-woven. He said that at the factory, they not only test it rigorously before placing it into the box, but they test it in both directions. That is just amazing. Both directions.

I would check out the forums at avsforum.com for good info on displays and home theater stuff. :)

yep, lol that's why I'm asking online. Those guys are hilarious! They also wanted me to buy a USB cable for $45 because "regular USB cables won't supply my printer with enough bandwidth when information is being sent". LMAO.

    Thx. I'll check out avsforums

What's the problem, exactly? Other than "it won't come off/out", lol.

No problem now, it's off and boxed and ready to ship tomorrow.

I honestly couldn't tell you what the problem was, I just popped it out after dinner tonight

Sometimes I wonder if it would be possible to fit a Sanwa/Seimitsu stick, and maybe buttons too, in a TAC-2... Is there enough space? You'd need to fit a small pcb in there too (something usb or PS2)...

Currently in the middle of an "interesting" repair job. The JLF on my HRAP3 wouldn't register up for some reason, figured I must have not reassembled it properly last time I opened the stick up. So I am, at this very moment, reassembling it while connected and in game just to make sure that nothing I do makes it stop working again.

I did a presentation today in my Speech Class about Joysticks.
    Laugh.

Brought in the SFAC Arcade Stick and the HRAP.
As in the first HRAP, the one with Mirror.

    Also brought a spare JLF.

I would like to know how cherry switches fare out in a JLF. By all means, I'M A FUCKING BURLY MAN, and I love the hard Omron switches. But I'm just wondering if it actually changes the performance of the JLF. I'm reluctant to try it out because the cherry switches these days are crap, and I had several of them die on me.

I forgot to type in my Post, but I started out as Ryu.
