Evil Canadian probably has the best series to get you some tips, ideas to chew on, and basic gameplans to characters without veering into that obnoxious "do this combo or drop the character" territory.
i guess it depends on your prior experience and things you might have disliked about the prior games.

Oh I get ya, but overall there's nothing else quite like SC. As much as I disagreed with in SCV, it's still SC. My fave fighting game franchise easily. It would take a gameplay reboot to make me drop the game.
DmC is a shit DMC game, but probably Ninja Theory's best game in a vacuum of their own catalog.
Personally, I don't see the value of counting it among the DMC series. It's hilariously unlikely that the alledged DMC5 will adopt anything from that game. And as a point of comparison, even DMC2 passed on some of its genes to 3.
