What the fuck is it with tryhards telling new players that they have to learn frame data?
New players need to learn to block and anti air.
Learning frame data also tells them what they can punish, when they shouldn't be pressing buttons and when they can take their turn back.
They'll mash less if they understand those things and make better decisions with the moves they pick instead of just hitting sweep a lot.
Lol no. Knowing frame data is not that important.
Of all the games I've ever taken seriously, I can't tell you the frames of any of my characters' moves... But I can tell you what they can usually punish and at which point in the animation you can act out of moves.
The most important shit to learn is your movement, spacing, wake up, and escape options.
After that, focus on pokes, hit confirms, punishes, blockstrings, and frame traps.
Before you start any of that though, set practical goals for yourself and don't try to do any competitive shit until you have a good feel and at least competent control over your character.
A strong mindset goes a long way, too.
Fuckin' frame data... lol.
Oh, and since it's the steam summer sale I highly recommend Max Payne 1 and 2 if you haven't played those games. Especially if you don't mind the outdated PS2 graphics, but there's definitely a big leap from MP1 to MP2 in terms of graphics though if that helps. You may need to download a sound patch though, that's about all that's wrong with the PC version of MP1.
