I'd understand why being in a car caught in the middle of a protest would be super annoying, but considering past actions its gross people in office would try use this to have a legal excuse and use this as a means to "shut people up".
If people are protesting whatever and are doing so in a peaceful manner that isn't obstructing traffic, then fine. Proceed.
If I hear any of my windows break, everyone in front of my car might as well be cosplaying as bowling pins.

That's a stupid way to protest. Might as well just stay home.
I agree they shouldn't damage your personal property, but I'm okay with them obstructing your daily life to pay attention. Yeah, I hate it, too, but there's no other way for them to get you to pay attention.
There are better ways to protest than to stand in the middle of a highway. Protesters have even blocked ambulances trying to get to a call. If they want to be a danger to themselves that's one thing....
